Stoped by here to check it out after picking up our son's toddler bed in Washougal - it was a nice lunch date spot. I'm always happy to check out another new Asian restaurant close by us. Waitress was very attentive, I just ordered hot green tea ($2 but free refills) and D and I both ordered the Sushi Lunch special. He got the ahi tuna and albacore tuna nigiri with spicy CA roll, while I got the ahi tuna and unagi nigiri with spicy tuna roll. Food was presented beautifully and tasted better than I expected. My personal note on next time - 1) the spicy rolls had too much spicy sauce over the rolls, will ask them to not put it on next time 2) the ahi tuna fish quality was just ok, will not order it next time. Food was good and reasonably priced however bathrooms were filthy. Both toilets had excrement on the sides of the bowl and there was toilet paper all over the floor. Makes me wonder if their kitchen is held to a clean standard if they can't keep their bathroom clean. There were boxes of kitchen supplies in the dining area that made the overall ambiance feel sloppy and dirty. The wait staff was nice but on their cell phones. If there's time to lean, there's time to clean and it was evident that cleaning was needed. I wish the best for this business. read more

First off, the ambiance is soothing. Nice relaxing music. Just what we needed after working all week. First time there. We could tell immediately that this was going to be good. The menu jackets are more high end. But the prices inside were surprisingly reasonable. Our service was excellent. We ordered a hand roll to start. Fabulous. We were excited to try a new sushi place, and although there are plenty in Vancouver, Washougal was lacking. Sadly, the experience was not as good as it could be. First, the good--sushi was fresh and well presented. Rolls were beautiful, and the nigiri (we had salmon belly) was melty and delicious. The sweet shrimp was also very good. The calamari, however, seemed off. My wife swore it was from frozen, and it was quite greasy, leaving a small puddle of oil on the plate. Overall the food was on par with others, but not a standout. Now, the not so good--cardboard boxes adorn the restaurant. It's a bit off-putting. The carpet appears dirty, and the first table we were at was sticky....so we moved to another. The layout is strange, with the bar taking up the center in a cantilevered manner. Booths are situated in the back and some tables are pressed up against the windows. The staff was hustling and therefore looked out of control at times. I'm thinking they need a bit more experience in the customere interaction area area as well as they seemed nervous and uncomfortable. Perhaps it's just new business jitters. Will come back again as over time they may take the feedback and make the necessary improvements. Time will tell. I always give new places the benefit of the doubt and make a second visit. read more

This place was a little hard to find. It's in a larger building and you need to walk up a flight of stairs to get to it. We went on a Friday around 5pm. It was pretty dead when we walked in so I was worried their food wasn't going to be good but I was wrong! Service was great and the sushi was amazing. Typically all rolls end up tasting the same to me but here, each roll had their individual flavors. The calamari appetizer was also good. I would return and definitely recommend it. read more

The sushi quality was at best a 6.5/10 and the amount of time we were waiting for literally anything, was ridiculous. For 2 Cali rolls & 2 pieces of Nigiri, it took over 45 mins... and the restaurant had about 8 people in it. We ordered another roll and something to go and it was another 1hr wait for that food. Not bad for a sushi restaurant in this area. The food seemed to be of good quality and they actually used less rice in making our food - big plus for them. The servings are big, which is what we (Americans) have come to expect, so be warned and don't let your eyes get bigger than your stomach. I've heard that Asaka is a new restaurant, so once they get their feet wet, I sure things will run a bit smoother. We'll be coming back. I give them an A+ for effort. read more

This place has a serious ethics problem. First, this is how their tonkotsu ramen looks. The broth tasted like an instant soup, noodles were flat, and there was no egg. My wife and I ate there last night. Because of the rain and snow there were few patrons. They first brought large glasses of water and we ordered a large hot sake and two cups of green tea. We had seaweed salad and cucumber salad and both were delicious. The cucumbers were crisp and the dressing light. The seaweed salad flavor was savory and not sickly sweet as at many places. For sushi rolls, we had the Washougal and the Spicy California and they were both outstanding. There was enough that we brought home 2 bites of each roll! Our server, Alvin, was helpful and friendly and we plan to return. It was the best sushi we have had in the Vancouver/Camus/Washougal area and the restaurant is in a new building across from the post office and the environment is new, clean and very nice. For people that do not like sushi or sashimi, there are teriyaki, noodles, and bento options on the menu. read more

I lived in Japan for seven years and really miss some of my favorite dishes like Katsudon. So was excited when I read this new Japanese place opened. Unfortunately it was not very authentic all around. Staff and music played was Chinese. No problem as long as food was Japanese but my katsudon was not that. They had it ready 3 mins after we ordered so I feel they just reheated it. They just poured katsu sauce over the meat and put scrambled egg with rice and added cabbage randomnly. That is NOT katsudon. Katsudon is a Japanese pork cutlet rice bowl made with tonkatsu, eggs, and sautéed onions simmered in a sweet and savory sauce not yaku bbq sauce. It was a nice remodel from what it used to be, we sat at a spacious booth with a huge table. It was fairly quiet about an hour before closing, service was great. Our waitress was really sweet and attentive. Food was delicious, fast, and affordable. I got the bento box with two entrees and it was a lot of food for $18! The newest restaurant to Washougal. We've lived here for 17 yrs. Not many restaurants stick, but we hope this one does. The sushi was fabulous. Plenty of pieces, prices a bit higher than other sushi place in the area, but definitely worth it. The only complaint is it said sushi and cocktails. There's no bar, no beer or wine either. The service was fine, but it felt very disorganized inside--there were boxes everywhere and the vacuum and other cleaning supplies were laying out. I wasn't fond of the sushi (spicy California roll and a dragon roll). This is the 3rd restaurant that has been in this location since we moved to the area 2016, Washougal is not (yet) a go-to town for dining out. We saw this place opened from a friend's facebook post, didn't realize it was only 3 days ago! What the heck, we decided to give it a try. Started with a calamari appetizer which was generous and crispy tempura without heavy oil residual. The we got the deluxe combo sashimi and combo sushi platters with many fresh varieties and again generous portions. The fish quality was very good, not Japan level (we lived there, so we were spoiled) , but better than most sushi places in the area. The prices were quite reasonable as well. The 4 of us were pretty full on those two combos but ordered a spider roll and a couple of other items to see how they were. Everything was very good, and I wanted to try other special rolls they had, but was too full. Service was friendly and attentive, and although the sushi chefs (Itamae) were new, they were competent, even with the restaurant filling up they worked fast. All in all, I had a better experience than I would have expected from a newly opened restaurant. We will definitely be back, as they get more experienced we can see if they can reach 5 stars. read more
