Lunch 2024 our fifth visit here
    Holly J.

This was a last-minute decision to stop by here for lunch. We were freezing and even though sushi is not a hot meal the soup and tea were the food is always very fresh. The service is always really good. It's a little bit darker inside than we prefer, but it's always comfortable. I never get a backache in their booth, which is wonderful. The food is reliably delicious

Stoped by here to check it out after picking up our son's toddler bed in Washougal - it was a nice lunch date spot. I'm always happy to check out another new Asian restaurant close by us. Waitress was very attentive, I just ordered hot green tea ($2 but free refills) and D and I both ordered the Sushi Lunch special. He got the ahi tuna and albacore tuna nigiri with spicy CA roll, while I got the ahi tuna and unagi nigiri with spicy tuna roll. Food was presented beautifully and tasted better than I expected. My personal note on next time - 1) the spicy rolls had too much spicy sauce over the rolls, will ask them to not put it on next time 2) the ahi tuna fish quality was just ok, will not order it next time. Other than that, looking forward to trying more items on the menu!

First off, the ambiance is soothing. Nice relaxing music. Just what we needed after working all week. First time there. We could tell immediately that this was going to be good. The menu jackets are more high end. But the prices inside were surprisingly reasonable. Our service was excellent. We ordered a hand roll to start. Fabulous. Then we ordered a dragon roll & a white dragon roll. The presentation was beautiful. Love their dishes. The rolls were at a perfect temperature. Melted like butter in your mouth. Delectable. We will be back & will be regulars. Worth the drive from The Gorge.

So tasty I love this place. Good quality and quantity for the price I've come here twice and everyone loved it. Kids love the udon noodles, pretty simple I always get salmon sashimi. And sweet shrimp

We were excited to try a new sushi place, and although there are plenty in Vancouver, Washougal was lacking. Sadly, the experience was not as good as it could be. First, the good--sushi was fresh and well presented. Rolls were beautiful, and the nigiri (we had salmon belly) was melty and delicious. The sweet shrimp was also very good. The calamari, however, seemed off. My wife swore it was from frozen, and it was quite greasy, leaving a small puddle of oil on the plate. Overall the food was on par with others, but not a standout. Now, the not so good--cardboard boxes adorn the restaurant. It's a bit off-putting. The carpet appears dirty, and the first table we were at was sticky....so we moved to another. The layout is strange, with the bar taking up the center in a cantilevered manner. Booths are situated in the back and some tables are pressed up against the windows. The staff was hustling and therefore looked out of control at times. I'm thinking they need a bit more experience in the customere interaction area area as well as they seemed nervous and uncomfortable. Perhaps it's just new business jitters. Will come back again as over time they may take the feedback and make the necessary improvements. Time will tell. I always give new places the benefit of the doubt and make a second visit.

From top: Smoky, Godzilla, Mt Hood, can't remember the last one. Our fav was the Godzilla.

This place was a little hard to find. It's in a larger building and you need to walk up a flight of stairs to get to it. We went on a Friday around 5pm. It was pretty dead when we walked in so I was worried their food wasn't going to be good but I was wrong! Service was great and the sushi was amazing. Typically all rolls end up tasting the same to me but here, each roll had their individual flavors. The calamari appetizer was also good. I would return and definitely recommend it.

If you haven't already tried Asaka, do so! Food is excellent service and ambiance was very pleasant. Maybe don't, I would like to keep this a secret. Just kidding just awesome to have a sushi restaurant in Washougal!

    Ten Don

Service was attentive, hence the 1 star. Based on others' reviews, I was not confidence to order sushi here. Sadly, the kitchen items were even worse. We ordered ten don and tonkotsu ramen with chasu. Noodles were undercooked. The chashu was tough, chewy and unedible. The whole bowl screamed prepackaged. The tempura did not use traditional Japanese tempura batter. It was a disappointed dining experience.

I ordered the salmon skin handroll and tuna salmon sushi!

I've been here several times and absolutely love the place. Great vibes, nice ppl and the food is amazing. I just stopped by for lunch and had their lunch special for 15.00.. if you're in the area stop by!

Excellent fresh fish. Top notch sushi rice. Crisp and light tempura.

Fresh sashimi. True Japanese sushi rice. Crisp and light tempura. Good value in an upscale, modern space.

It was crowded on Friday night which is expected. The wait wasn't too bad for us because we came early for dinner. They seated us right away but we waited about 20- 25 min for the food. Luckily we have hot sake to enjoy. Food was decent . We desperately need decent ethnic food around this area. We'll be back!

This place has a serious ethics problem. First, this is how their tonkotsu ramen looks. The broth tasted like an instant soup, noodles were flat, and there was no egg. The worst part was they put cheap pork ham and CLAIMED it was Chashu. This not just about the quality, but about deceiving customers. Customers are not dumb. They will all find out soon.

This restaurant was perfect! Their decor is really cool, with plenty of seating at the sushi bar, the beverages bar, booths, and a small patio courtyard (not much of a view outside, though). Service was good & quick, with a variety of servers bringing us our dishes. We started with sharing a sake flight (3 very different sakes for $22), and later ordered another glass of sake to share. For our food we had the seaweed salad, Bo Gyoza (long pan-fried dumplings), grilled Mackerel fish, a side of rice, and the "Tampopo" Omu-Rice dish. Everything was cooked perfectly & absolutely delicious! The Omu-Rice dish was quite unique, with small pieces pork & veggies atop a bed of rice that's been seasoned with ketchup, and on top of it all is a perfect fluffy Japanese egg omelet - so freakin' yummy! The food comes out in whatever order it's ready, as is typical at a Japanese restaurant, so if you want something first, be sure to let your server know. Prices were reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the ingredients & preparation, which was a plus. They don't take reservations, so depending on when you arrive there might be a wait (I think they used to take reservations but their website currently says they do not). Can't wait to come back and try more!

I stumbled on Yataimura Maru doing some google hunting. I was amazed I had not heard of it. We got in shortly before 5pm and it did get much busier but we continued to get such great service! When we arrived, it was just before happy hour was concluding and she let us know so we could order off that menu before it finished. My friend opted to order some happy hour gyoza and a small curry so she could try it. We then ordered off the regular menu. I personally tried one of her veggie gyoza {which was delicious and VERY crispy} and ordered sushi. I ordered salmon nigiri, hoso-maki hamachi, the tempura shrimp roll {shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, sesame seeds & unagi sauce} and the Frenchy roll {spicy tuna, krab salad, & avocado, topped salmon, spicy mayo, house made unagi sauce & fried onion}. It was all amazing! Sadly, their sodas do not come with refills but that was our only negative. The décor is fantastic and you feel like you are in a far fancier restaurant. I also love that even when the restaurant was fairly full I did not feel like I was dining with the others in the restaurant. I wandered into the restroom and found that they have Japanese toilets. They also have a seat by the sink if you need that.

I was looking for food nearby and came across this restaurant. The food was surprisingly delicious! We ordered the chicken katsu curry, kama-age udon (hokkai miso soup), and the kama-meshi seafood. The chicken katsu was cooked perfectly: crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside! The sauce also was the perfect texture and taste. My favorite was the kama-age udon with the hokkai miso soup. I love udon but sometimes don't like how thick it is because it fills you up faster and is harder to digest, the udon here is thinner which I fell in love with! It's soft and chewy and the perfect thickness: you dip it on the soup when you eat it. I also loved the soup, I usually have leftover soup when eat noodles, but I finished every last sip! Definitely recommend this dish if you were to only order one item! We also ordered the kama-meshi seafood. I thought this one tasted okay! The flavors of the seafood come through, but I personally like stronger and heavier flavors. It was worth a try! Parking: This restaurant is in downtown portland so it was difficult to find parking. We ended up parking at a nearby garage and paid for parking. They do have a few street parking spots near the restaurant if you want to test your luck! Seating and service: We were seated really quickly as we went on a weekday! They have several tables and a large table that can be reserved as well as bar spots. The restaurant overall looks really nice and is pretty spacious. The servers were really nice and fast to get you what you need! A side note: they have heated toilet seats in their restroom so that's always a plus!

I ordered the red miso, and there was sugar snap peas and asparagus, which is unusual. The individual ingredients themselves were fine but as a whole, it didn't taste like miso or spicy ramen. The overload of vegetables didn't seem to belong in a typical miso ramen dish (my go-to order) and rendered the broth quite bland. My husband ordered the black shoyu ramen, which was pretty one-note. Ota Tofu is one of my favorite spots in Portland for their amazingly fresh tofu, and it's right across from this ramen shop. Sadly, the tofu they used here was fried to a crisp, lost most of its flavor and had an unpleasant, sharp texture.
