Decided to try this place based on the reviews. My daughter and I went in and let them know we wanted to order to go. The waitress sat us at a table, and handed us menus, and a pen and paper, told me to write down my order. Ok, this threw me off a little. Figured out what we wanted to order (ordered four meals and an appetizer). Wrote my order down. The waitress said 25-30 min. We decided to go for a walk came back at the 25 min mark, food was on the counter, thought perfect time to head home and eat... then I got asked if I needed three chop sticks. I said well we have four meals. She looked at me with a deer in the headlights look and said oh you do? Yeah, I know what I ordered since I had to write it down. She said ok, will you wait for us to make it? I said of course, I have four people to feed not three. Fast forward 15 minutes, they brought my other food out, it sits on the counter. Five minutes go by, I go over and ask if I can have my food, she said oh well we have to make more miso soup, we are out. I said no thank you, I will take my food because it's already probably cold. She proceeded to argue with me telling me my food will still be hot (we had to reheat everything when we got home) She told me she was sorry and she was new. I think her dad is the sushi chef and it looks like he moves slower than a mule. I came in with 5 others at 6:30pm on a Tuesday evening. The place was pretty busy. We waited 5 mins for a table to get cleaned and another 10 minutes to get our orders taken. She delivered waters 5 mins later. The food was mediocre at best. I got the bento chicken deluxe and it was nothing to brag about. Just a lame place. I would not be inclined to go back to this place ever!! I guess I don't understand how the place was so busy. I chose to come here because my husband loves sushi and I was picking up on my way home. First, he liked his Sushi. He said, "it's pretty good," which for him is a pretty damn good review. I ordered the Tofu Bento and a House Green Salad. I'm primarily plant based and gluten free so this checked all the boxes. Ordering was fine, picking up was fine. Everyone was nice. The place had some people in it, seemed pleasant. Wasn't too packed. I got my food quickly and tipped $3. When I got home, I got some sort of tempura, I think it was the soft shell crab, but also had some vegetables in it. If I ordered the Soft Shell Crab tempura I would have been pissed, because it only had 2 pieces (1 my husband thought was okay, not a great review, but not bad), and the other my chickens fricken LOVED!). But the soft shell tempura does not say it comes with vegetables, and it was mostly vegetables. So I never got any Tofu or steamed vegetables which is what I ordered. The Green House Salad said it came with ginger dressing, which I was looking forward to, but it had that sweet mayonaisey crap, which I'm fine with when I'm in the mood, but that's not what the menu said. The salad was big, though. Had mostly slaw with some leaves of iceburg mixed in. Not high quality, but fine...if I had ginger dressing. So, I didn't get 1 of the things I ordered and what I did order was not as described and I wasn't able to figure out what the hell they think I ordered in the first place. Boo for me. This review is strictly for their weekday lunch special. The Hubs and I each ordered one of their bento lunch specials which came with teriyaki beef OR chicken, 3 potstickers, steamed rice, a California Roll, small green salad and a cup of miso soup which was a LOT of food for one person and we were each stuffed. I had the chicken teriyaki & the Hubs got the beef and both were very tender and flavorful. The only downside, if you can call it that, was the green salad came with ranch dressing. Whenever I've had a small side salad with a bento lunch at other places it's come with some sort of miso/Asian vinaigrette dressing, which I would have preferred. I'm not sure if they have other dressings as they didn't ask what we wanted and it just came that way. The food came out in under 10 minutes and our server was very nice. First of all, my wife and I are both very into sushi, so we look for everything like service, price, cleanliness, etc... plus is the sushi rice cooked well, fresh nori, freshness of fish, and execution of the sushi. Service: It wasn't the worst service we've ever had but very far from the best. I had to deduct a star for our experience. Atmosphere: It's nothing special, feels like a sushi bar crammed into a strip mall. Price: overpriced for what you get in comparison to other local sushi joints based on quality. Quantity they did good, but their quality more than hurts that. Food: Execution of the rolls were horrible! Worst I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, they came out to us looking delicious and pretty, but literally every roll fell apart before it got into my mouth. The rice was undercooked and flavorless, the fish was definitely not fresh. There was a fishiness that came out of most of our rolls. Would we return: No... A nice little gem hidden in Battle Ground. It's a small place, very clean and very quiet - which I appreciate. The chef greeted us pleasantly, and the server came to seat us with a smile right away; she checked on us twice during our dinner, and made sure we had everything we needed. Quite an extensive menu! We had bento with a little of everything: tempura, CA rolls, teriyaki, miso soup and green salad. Everything tasted very fresh, and each item was well prepared. The portions were generous (I could not finish everything), and the presentation was appetizing. If you are like me and can't finish a roll in one bite, then yes, they do fall apart. But everything tasted good, and I wasn't bothered by the rolls' lack of structural integrity. The soup was nice and hot, the tempura was light and crisp, and my teriyaki chicken had a pleasant smoky grilled flavor. It was a rather nice surprise to find a nice place like this in Battle Ground. Although I'm sure there are "bigger and better' places in Portland, it's nice to have something like this close to home. I'm looking forward to trying more items on the menu. read more

We love this place. We have been here a lot times. It's Japanese restaurant but the owners and the two girls working there are Korean. It doesn't matter because they have awesome sushi!! I give 4 out of 5 because one of the waitresses... She never smile!! Last night, my husband, me and baby went there for dinner. After we got our table, the shorter smile waitress came and gave us the menu. Probably like 2 mins later, the taller no smile one came and asked us if we ready. I asked her ready what? She's like ready to order? My husband asked her if we can have water first? He had water no ice and I had hot water with lemon. Finally she brought us the water over... The whole night: no smile again!!! Of course... but the shorter one always smile to every customer and very friendly also. After many average but edible meals at Toro Sushi Bento, I've finally reached the end of my willingness to spend money here. Overly salty, too much sauce, uninspired rolls, and to top it off, terrible service. Toro Sushi's prices are fairly standard for a mid level sushi restaurant, but the quality of fish isn't up to par. The salmon skin roll is so dry, it's like eating bark chips (I promise, I'm not exaggerating). The Rock n Roll (pictured) was a soggy mess of way too much eel sauce, spicy mayo, and overripe avocado. The Sakura roll was fine, minus the incredibly salty tempura shrimp. Veggie tempura - fine. Miso soup with clams - salty but edible. Edamame - whatever. They didn't manage to mess that one up too badly. The service was truly poor. Seated in the front, it took ten minutes to get a server, and she came without water. Our food arrived reasonably quickly, but without any check ins or water refills. She seemed oblivious to the three drained water glasses, and the only attempt at attentiveness was when the credit card was pulled from a wallet. Certainly no goodbye as we left the place. My advice: if you really, really want sushi and can't bear to drive to Vancouver, stick with something basic, minus sauce. read more

They have a lot of options and good portion sizes. There are many rolls to choose from. We have eaten here more than five times and have tried a lot of their menu items. Everything we've liked and will continue to eat here for years to come. My one and only complaint is the customer service is almost non-existent. We almost always have to get up and ask for things. Wow. I came here with my best friend as a Saturday lunch date. The food was mediocre to say the least. The customer service was nonexistent. My biggest pet peeve is having to whip my head back and forth for a waiters attention when I need water. Or more napkins. We were there for maybe 30 mins, so the food came fast but we didn't feel like staying and chatting any longer than we'd plan to esp because the check was dropped off at our table not even half way through our meal. I will say the sushi is cheap, and with good reason. Although the rolls were HUGE, they didn't taste.. good. I'd much rather go to Sushi Chiyo. They were boring and plain.
