My friend and I had planned on going to a restaurant across the street from Asbury Kitchen, but it was closed, even though the webiste said they were open. So we took a chance and ate here. Great location but ... Bought soup at the festival. They would only sell a large container. Was chicken orzo. More like smelly chicken mush. Honestly the worst soup I've ever smelled or attempted to eat in my life. My friend smell it and gaged. Brought it home dumped in a collider to see what was lurking in the bottom of the 4 4 inches of chicken fat. I had to toss it the smell was just evil. Worst $14.00 I spent in 2023 I hope it's not always like this maybe they were trying to dump old soup that day. Sorry for the really bad review.

This vibrant & welcoming restaurant is the perfect beach restaurant with yellow shiplap walls & nautical decorations, what's not to love! Well definitely not Arlene's !!! The waitress was very nice. I ordered gluten free pancakes with strawberries and my mom ordered eggs benedict with pork roll. My pancakes were thick & very dry, and the strawberries were cooked into the pancakes...first time I've seen that done. The eggs benedict, the eggs were cooked perfect but the hollandaise sauce was like water, runny and ice cold, and no taste. Arlene's was such a nice family owned place & I enjoyed eating at and could eat at (I have celiac) every year for the past 7 yrs. I didn't know they had closed. Very sad to say the least. I hope this new place makes it. But, can't say I'll be back.

We got takeout yesterday and we were pretty disappointed. The Crabby Benedict had very little flavor and the hollandaise was so watery you couldn't even taste it. The Egg White Scramble looked like it had been cooked in a rush, lacked any kind of seasoning, and was missing the tomatoes (accompanied muffin was also missing peanut butter). I hope this is just an off-season anomaly.

The food is really good, especially the breakfast tacos, but the service needs to be improved. Hopefully by this summer they can continue to make necessary changes and improvements as my parents and I love going there- but HATE the wait once we order. One of the owners nieces (I believe) we had as our server and we couldn't say enough nice things about her. So sweet and accommodating, a great server on their staff!

What happened to the good old Arlenes??? We have been coming to OCNJ for 20 years and have been regulars at Arlenes. We decided to give The Kitchen a try- what a total disappointment. My whole family and I each decided to get the 1 egg, home fries, and toast along with coffee. We were a party of 5 and came in around 8:10. We got our food at 8:40, after watching every table, even a table of 4 (who all got french toast and pancakes), get their food before ours. While we waited, we were not given any extra coffee. They had over 5 waitresses and the outside and inside both were not full. When we got our food, it was absolutely cold. My egg was super cold, the potatoes obviously had been sitting on our plates for quite sometime, along with our toast. The toast sat out for so long it became cold and soft- basically bread again. We got one slice of toast each and it was not served with butter and we had to request butter packets. Other scrambled eggs at the table were undercooked and wet. Such a bad experience. They decided to focus on aesthetics rather than good food and good service. We will never go back. read more

atmosphere is nice, it's a small place but comfortable. the food was actually really good but the biggest flaw was the coordination. first of all the hostess was amazing in running interference but it took nearly 20 minutes for someone to take our drink order. Tables were being filled and orders were taken after we sat down. one of the biggest issues was there appeared to be problems in the kitchen where full orders weren't leaving the kitchen leaving one or two people at the table without their food for long periods of time. nearly an hour and a half after we were seated my daughters pancakes finally came out after the rest of us had finished eating. We were very patient for this and the staff was working but overall I wouldn't recommend this place if you are in a tight schedule. read more

We visited the first time today for a late breakfast. We used to eat here when it was Arlene's cause my daughter is gluten intolerant. Glad to see gluten free strawberry pancakes r still on the menu. The portion size was large (probably too large for the average eater). But disappointed the sliced strawberries r cooked inside the pancake & there were very few slices. I ordered eggs Benedict with pork roll. The eggs were cooked to perfection. I asked if fruit cud b subbed for the fried potatoes & was pleasantly surprised with the large fresh fruit cup at no up charge. The hollandaise tho is a different story. It was served ice cold on top of my hot eggs and it was flavorless; lacked the taste & consistency (very water) of a good hollandaise. The server was very pleasant, took my plate & returned with warmer but not hot hollandaise on the eggs.. Wasn't worth the time to return a 2nd time since it the hollandaise didn't taste that good. Over all a less than average experience & doubt we'll b back. read more

Not your average breakfast joint! My wife's family has been vacationing in Ocean City for years and…read morethis was everyone's first visit to Hooked on Breakfast. One of the servers who knows our niece suggested we stop by for breakfast during her shift and recommended we come before 8 am as it gets busy. By the time we arrived (after 8 am lol) our only option was to sit outside, otherwise the wait would've been 45 minutes--she was right. When I say I'm not a breakfast person, I don't mean I dislike breakfast foods. I just don't enjoy eating early in the day. This did not stop me from looking through pictures on Yelp and Google (Wow! Everything looked delicious!) and through the menu which had some very intriguing options including Woody's Scrap Pile, Cannoli Pancakes, and Breakfast Sushi (only on Tuesdays) just to name a few. The menu has all your typical breakfast foods and combos you'd find at any diner or breakfast joint, but then there are also much more unique, elaborate "craft" options that really make this menu stand out. Our server, who is also a teacher in my niece's school, was great. She was friendly, attentive, professional, frequently checked in, and was especially good with the kids, offering crayons and their choice of colored straws. While I didn't eat, my 5 star rating is based on the service (of course), the coffee, and unanimous positive remarks from around the table. I really liked the coffee mugs. They were large (larger than your average coffee mug), sturdy mugs that were filled nearly to the brim with piping hot coffee. My wife got the Sour Dough Delight--grilled sour dough topped with bacon, goat cheese, arugula, balsamic reduction (which she skipped) and two eggs (any style). She loved it and told me she'd absolutely order it again after she tries the Avocado Naan. Guess we're coming back at least twice more lol! Our table also had an Omelette, a breakfast sandwich, and French Toast. Everyone enjoyed their food and the portion sizes were huge--I don't think anybody finished their plate. While I did think the prices were fair, especially for the quality and quantity of food served, the online menu hadn't been updated to reflect current prices. I can see why they get as busy as they do and why they've received so many 5 star reviews. I'm sure Hooked on Breakfast will be added to our list of stops on our annual Ocean City family vacation after our experience this July.

Another person changed out their two slices of standard toast for a slice of whole grain. That was a $1 added charge. Visitors should check their bills closesly since Varsity Inn seems to now want to add a charge for any little thing. The following night, I had a hamburger at another restaurant, and there was not an added charge for onion. Looks like we'll go elsewhere so we don't get hit with added, hidden charges.

The line stretched around the side of the building the night we stopped for ice cream, but it moved quickly. Staff efficiently took orders, prepared cones and sundaes, and kept the line moving despite the large crowd. While take-out is always great from Kessel's, I will always prefer dining in! You really can't beat the old-school diner vibes and decor, and the service is outstanding. Julia, our server, did an incredible job with our party of 7. She was highly attentive, frequently checked in, and really added to our experience. My Cheesesteak Hoagie with hot peppers may have been my favorite thing I've ordered from Kessel's to date, but it's hard to go wrong with anything on the menu. The burgers and wraps are also solid choices. I also ordered a fresh Peach Sundae and I highly recommend! Julia even made my sundae herself in addition to waiting tables, and it tasted every bit as good as it looked. Absolutely picture-worthy! Kessel's is a cash-only establishment, but for seven people--including sandwiches, burgers, wraps, multiple orders of fries, and a few desserts--the total was just over $100. That's an incredible value especially at the Jersey Shore. Kessel's will always be a staple of our family vacations and continues to be a highlight for our nieces. I walked into Bakeria two days ago, intending to treat myself to one of their amazing artisan slices of pizza. But in the display case below the counter was a stack of beautiful seeded baguettes, hot out of the oven and longer than my arm! Disclaimer: I am a lifelong baguette hound, travel to Italy and France frequently enough, and consider myself a baguette connoisseur if you will. So it took two long bags, one on each end, to wrap this baguette which smelled like a dream, and I will admit that I was a bit taken back when the cashier asked for $10, which is the most I have ever paid for baguette in all of my life, but knowing that these sell out every day, I was not gonna walk away at that point! All I can tell you is this is by far the best baguette I have ever had in America or Europe: wonderful sourdough, perfectly texture crust covered with lightly toasted sesame seeds, and a moist soft chewy interior that is pure bliss. Buy this baguette! I promise you that it will be a memorable experience!P! And the 10 bucks? I have to be totally honest: I have since dreamed about this baguette and wouldn't hesitate to go back tomorrow for another one, it was so worth it!

The veggie pizza and the buffalo chicken pizza were better than the margarita but they were nothing special. The pictures looked better so maybe they're better by the slice in person. We picked it up and we were on time but it was cold and not crispy at all, maybe should've baked it again. The people were super sweet and I wanted the food to taste better, I'll try it again soon

I've been visiting Ocean City for 26 years and Asbury Kitchen is hands down the best restaurant that I've ever been to on the island! From cute decor and amazing service to out of this world breakfast and lunch food, it is simply the best in America's Greatest Family Resort. I even had the opportunity to speak with the owner's eldest daughter who also works there and she explained the business is family run, which I love to see nowadays since it is so rare! I will continue to keep going back! Would recommend to anyone looking for a start to finish amazing restaurant experience! read more

This is my new favorite breakfast spot in OC! I have tried all of the crepes on the menu and they all are incredible. The service was excellent as well, the hostess and our waitress were very nice. They also have some amazing lunch options such as the delicious Reuben and they also make a killer cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. I also really enjoy sitting outside on the patio and having a refreshing iced coffee to start my day. I would say it is a must visit if you are ever in the area. read more

Excellent food and service--a much needed upgraded from Arlene's! We got two Benedict's. The eggs were poached to perfection; the flavor profile was balanced; the portions were large for very reasonable prices. We heard the crepe's were excellent and the arugula, prosciutto, and brie crepe did not disappoint. Otherwise, the wait staff was very friendly and quick. The space just had a terrific feel to it. Delicious, healthy and wide variety of menu options. There is a whole extra gluten free and crepe menu available. Went in multiple times for breakfast and lunch and always had great service and food. Highly recommend trying the Absury Kitchen breakfast sandwich and you absolutely can't go wrong with any of the crepes. Favorite local Ocean City spot! read more

Went in for breakfast last weekend and had the best cream chipped beef ever! Was very happy with the kid menu options, the kids loved the Mickey Mouse pancake. Also was pleasantly surprised with the large portion sizes, will definitely be back next time we are down. read more
