Ascend changed our lives- my son's life. Our family is beyond blessed. If you are looking for the best treatment for your child, you will not find ANYTHING better than Ascend. Truly. Below is my letter to the Ascend team. Effie, It is not a mystery that you have an incredible team at Ascend. I could not be more grateful than I am. When Grant went into Ascend the first time, he was in a very dark place- his energy was heavy so much that it weighed not only him down, it weighed down those around him. He didn't believe in himself, nor anyone or anything else. The Grant who came out of treatment was as light as a feather. He was childlike again and it was the most beautiful thing I have truly ever seen. It was as though a miracle had occurred. And it did. I truly believe that it would not have happened without the incredible team you have and primarily, I owe it to Cynthia and Noah. Cynthia was an angel for my Grant. She was loving and nurturing; able to hold him accountable while providing him with truths that he was not able or willing to see prior to treatment. She did it in a manner in which he didn't become combative or hostile. She gave him a freedom from himself and helped to remove that weight he walked in the doors of Ascend with. And she put up with my lengthy, random, overly detailed, and overly explained emails. That in itself deserves an award. J And then there was Noah... From the very moment I met him, I felt assured beyond what any parent could possibly feel. His words and his positivity took any fears I had and threw them to the curb. I drove up that first day, heavy with concern and pain, to bring Grant his belongings. When I left, I flew down the 405 with the biggest smile and the greatest sense of calm than I'd had in nearly two years. In speaking with a dear friend, I was describing the means in which Noah affects the lives of those around him so profoundly. I would like to add that I speak of him to many because he has touched my life and Grant's life so profoundly. What he has done for Grant is unparalleled. As I spoke with this friend, an analogy came to me, bringing tears to my eyes and I felt compelled to elaborate and share it with you. Noah is a gift to the world. What he does and what he gives posses so much beauty. A beauty that cannot be taught. It is innate. And beauty breeds beauty. Noah's gift is like a piece of art or a piece of music; a favorite song. When I think about the way that da Vinci's Mona Lisa or Van Gogh's Starry Night or even Shepard Fairey's work (for me it's Gustav Klimt's The Kiss, Dali, and Fairey) have transcended generations and the manner in which they provoke emotion and perspective; awe and inspiration; the way they precipitate and propel change... and when I think of the way that I feel and the way my body and soul respond when I hear Michael Jackson's Off the Wall, The Beatles' Let it Be, The Stones' Paint it Black, Beethoven's Piano Sonata #14, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five's The Message, Adele's Hello, Johnny Cash's Boy Named Sue... the list goes on. The art; the music. It changes us. It permeates our being. And where would we be without these gifts? THIS. This is what Noah does for others. This is the gift that he gives. And he doesn't even have to try. It's just who he is... It would be unjust if I did not mention the impact that the rest of the team had on our lives. They are a godsend.. From the moment I heard your voice on the other end of the phone, trying to give me all of the information regarding Ascend while simultaneously caring for your seven children at 8:30 at night, my heart was stolen and I knew that this is exactly where Grant needed to be. And then I met Alicia over the phone. What an amazing woman! I tear up simply talking about her. She is a keeper... My brief conversations with Dr. Acosta communicated to me that she is a compassionate and trustworthy person. The kiddos are blessed to have her on their team. Brittany is kind, thorough, and direct. As someone who always has more questions, I did not find that I needed to seek additional information. She is a great asset to the team, as you know. Grant really connected with Alex. Connections for Grant are priceless. I'm grateful for that. I thank each and every staff member at Ascend for all that they do and for the parts of them that they give away each day so that these beautiful children can have a life beyond their wildest dreams- whether that life be years away or simply around the corner. This experience was extremely disappointing. After confirming they were in-network with our insurance, we were then told there would be an additional daily "wellness" fee that insurance does not cover. After speaking with several comparable treatment programs, multiple providers indicated that this type of charge seemed unusual and raised concerns. It's difficult to understand why a facility would bill insurance while also requiring substantial out-of-pocket fees that appear separate from the core treatment services. For families seeking help for their children, transparency and patient care should come first. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling that revenue generation was prioritized over supporting kids and families during a difficult time. As a result, we have decided to pursue care elsewhere for our son. read more

As a parent, my experience with Ascend Healthcare was extremely disappointing and, at times, deeply concerning. We enrolled our child hoping for compassionate, coordinated, and effective mental health treatment. Instead, we experienced what felt like poor communication, inconsistent care, and a lack of collaboration with our family. We often felt that our concerns were not taken seriously, and it was difficult to get clear answers about treatment decisions. One of the most frustrating aspects was the lack of transparency. We frequently felt left out of important conversations regarding our child's care, despite believing that parents should be partners in the treatment process whenever appropriate. Rather than leaving us feeling supported, the experience often left us feeling confused and concerned. There were multiple issues at the Oaks home. Their director was not honest with us. Their staff team made mistakes with medications. The counselors put the kids in harm's way. It was an unsafe environment to say the least. Mental health treatment is one of the most important decisions a family can make. Parents deserve open communication, accountability, and confidence that their concerns are being heard. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. Every family's situation is different, but I encourage parents considering Ascend Healthcare to ask detailed questions about communication with families, treatment planning, discharge preparation, and how progress is measured before enrolling their child. I sincerely hope our experience was an exception, but I cannot recommend this program based on what our family experienced. read more

If I could give Ascend 3.5 stars I would. I was referred to this Residential Care Mental Health Home, called Magnolia House since my daughter who has high functioning ASD and was suffering from anxiety, depression, social anxiety, and suicidal ideations. It was all coming at once and we latched onto Ascend Healthcare seeking answers, and a change for our daughter -- to pull her up and help her thrive again. What we initially got was charged A LOT Theres a "wellness fee" they charge on top of insurance, it's not in their contract, but it's about an additional $4500 a month. I was stunned to pay this once and requested to pay again after my daughter had been in treatment a month here. Besides this, the care my daughter received I believe was extra ordinary. Damilola Adefeso Psychiatric Mental Health, Nurse Practitioner worked greatly with my daughter. He kept us in the loop and described what she was going through in language we could understand. Also, her Therapist, Alexandra Rodriguez took time to work closely with my daughter. My daughter followed a good schedule here, and had outings. She stayed for a little over two months, and came home rested and loaded with new skills to combat the anxiety as well as new medications which seemed to improve her mood and look on life. I will say they the packing list was a bit monotonous yet they never used much of the items we had packed for our daughter. Once we got very scared because our daughter was unreachable for about 24 hours, as was Ascend. My husband and I worried something happened. We later got word that three was internet and phone problem and no one could call outside or be called. I found this excuse to be dumb because you'd they'd have a good old fashioned copper wire phone line that didn't exist on internet. They should definitely have a plan for this. This is mainly why I can't give Ascend more than 3.5 stars. read more

Ascend Recovery and Counseling Services in Portsmouth, Ohio failed to provide fair or ethical treatment during my stay. I followed the rules, made progress in my recovery, and even served as Head of Household for three weeks with no disciplinary issues. Despite this, I was treated unfairly and experienced retaliation after reporting staff misconduct. Major issues: * Retaliation -- After reporting a group facilitator for targeting and unprofessional behavior, staff attitudes toward me changed and my progress was blocked. * Delayed phase advancement -- I was not phased up appropriately. My counselor later admitted I had not been given required assignments, yet my progress was still held back. * False accusations -- I was accused of not participating right before I was supposed to phase up. This was untrue and contradicted my documented progress. * Lack of transparency -- When I asked for written policies explaining decisions affecting my treatment, they would not provide them. * Denied critical emotional support -- I requested support for a major facial reconstructive surgery appointment at the cancer hospital and was refused. This caused severe emotional distress and a panic attack. This facility talks about recovery but does not practice fairness, accountability, or trauma-informed care. Clients deserve honesty and respect. I did not receive either here. read more

I stayed at the canyons house for 46 days for mental health and some substance use. The experience was honestly a mix of helpful and exhausting. The program is super skills- and process-based, which can be a lot day after day, but I did learn things that continue to help me now. The days are long and draining, but I met some really amazing people there who I'm still close with, and that made a big difference. They have farm animals at the house I stayed in, which was one of my favorite parts--I connected with them more than I expected, and it helped me ground myself. They had sheep's, goats, miniature horses, a pig and a donkey. And oh man how much I miss them after I've left. You grow such a bond with them that I never thought I would have. You can call your parents pretty much every day depending on your "level," which you earn based on how much you participate in groups and how you're doing overall. Some staff were super kind and supportive, though a few could be a little harsh or too intense sometimes. I'm gluten-free, and I really struggled with the food. They gave me super small portions, and even after telling them my preferences before coming, I kept getting meals I couldn't eat or didn't like. I ended up eating PB&Js almost every day and lost 5 pounds while I was there--not because I was trying to, but because I just couldn't eat the food they gave me. The outings during the week were actually really fun and gave us a break from the intense daily schedule. But just be aware--it's very strict. Expect weekly drug tests, self-harm checks, self-searches every time you leave or come back, no shoes or sweatshirts in the bathroom, and everyone has to count out loud in the bathroom after eating for ED protocols--even if you don't struggle with an ED. When you first arrive, it takes a long time to get your stuff because they inventory everything. Overall, Ascend helped me in some big ways, but it's not for everyone. Be prepared for a highly structured and very rule-based environment. It's definitely not a vacation--but if you're open to putting in the work, it can help. read more

I'm so grateful for Ascend Healthcare! I sent my 17 year old daughter to Ascend for treatment for mental health / alcohol/ drug addiction this past summer; Ascend staff made it smooth during this hard time. I can honestly say, the entire Ascend staff went above and beyond answering my questions, any concerns I had and made my daughter and I feel like family. I have nothing but good things to say about the entire staff of Ascend. My daughter learned great coping skills, whenever she started to feel overstimulated, she remembered her coping skills they taught her. Also, thanks to the staff at Ascend, we found out the diagnosis of my daughter. I loved the Parents Attentive Family sessions they have, it helped bring us closer to our child with deep talks and helped us heal as a family. I can go on about how great Ascend Healthcare is, to the amazing staff, to the animals they had at the home where my daughter stayed, to helping my daughter heal, Ascend Healthcare is truly a great program. I was happy to have my daughter back home, as she was too, however we both also felt a bit sad because we truly felt like we were saying bye to our own family members. I went to Trails in June of 2022. I chose to go there myself after talking with my therapist at home about needing a higher level of care to treat my trauma. I had a previous experience with an abusive treatment center in Utah a couple years prior, so I was a bit wary. I specifically went there to work on some childhood trauma involving CSA perpetrated by a parent. I also was dealing with frequent visual hallucinations at the time. I will say that they have a very humane searching process. I am a transgender man and they treated me like any other boy. It was not a strip search, but they still did thoroughly search for contraband. The only thing I would say is that some of the people I was there with did manage to bring in drugs. Another positive part about the program was the animals and the Dr that oversees them. Bonding with the pony they assigned me truly was a very healing experience. Doing the farm chores and taking care of the animals' needs also helped me. The Dr and most of the regular staff are the reason my review is more than one star. From the moment I arrived, I was treated as if I was lying about my hallucinations. I spoke openly about them because I thought that I needed to be completely honest and open with the program. I was met with skepticism every time I spoke about the distress I was experiencing due to them. On the first day I met with my therapist, I told her I did not want to do family therapy with the parent that had abused me. I told her candidly about the type of abuse that happened. This led to a meeting with the clinical director and my therapist where they asked me about the details of the abuse, so they could make a CPS report. I knew that they were going to have to make the report, so I was okay with this. When a CPS report is made, they have to inform the parents that they made a report. What they don't have to do is tell the parents exactly what was reported, which Trails did. My parents denied everything, of course. I think anyone would. My therapist and the clinical director believed my parents over me. Every single family and individual session was dedicated to "figuring out why I lied." This experience in itself was traumatizing, and I was taught that there is actually a specific term for it in psychology. I went to Trails to heal, and unfortunately I was called a liar. It ruined my relationships with my family. read more

The therapist treating our child was horrific, not trauma informed and truly a disgrace to mental health treatment. The facility lied and said it was all covered by insurance and upon arrival we found out it wasn't. This has happened to multiple families there. The kids there rub off on each other in negative ways and the staff is not trained to handle them. read more

We are really glad our journey took us to Ascend. When we first called, we were overwhelmed by our situation and didn't know what exactly would happen. Amy calmed us and helped us to trust the process. After 8 months of PHP and IOP treatment, we can honestly say it has been a great experience that has addressed our kiddo's acute distress and helped them to discover new tools, greater self-knowledge and a greater sense of their own ability to create community. The providers we were placed with and the support groups for parents (and the facilitators of those) were wonderful. Lots of resources for parents not only to gain more tools but to simply feel connected with other parents going through similar things. Our child's one on one therapist created a great rapport balancing creating a feeling of safety with gently pushing on comfort zones to get at the heart of things. Our nurse practioner took a deep interest in figuring out what made our child tick (including reviewing cognitive and genetic testing to seek insight) and wound up adjusting meds in a very helpful way. Even the staff at the front desk were great, creating warmth and connection with parents and kids alike. Then there's the space itself with its muted tones, low-key lighting and engagement with holidays and safe space signage -- and dogs Three staff bring dogs off and on and that helps create a feeling of healing too. We recommend Ascend and are grateful for all our child, and we, got from the experience. read more

Ascend is the highest level of care for troubled kiddos. They are miracle workers and this is due to their organizational rigor and the fact that they have absolutely the best people. It may feel like there is no way out of the situation with your child, but Ascend has really seen it all, and they will help you find normal again for your family. my time at the trails house at Ascend was ok, I liked the house and some of the other clients there, and the staff truly did care but the medical process in other words was shit. my therapist danieal Bess was almost controlling, I would say blah blah blah this is how I feel and he would tell me that's bull shit and this is how you actually feel which felt diminishing and put down. he would even, on my mother and father's account say that during family calls would roll his eyes or make some sarcastic face basically behind my back (I could not see his face) as if he was saying "You see what I'm talking about ". my parents were told that I was treatment resistant although I was the one who seeked out help and wanted to go and do the work. i would do my farm chores and maybe pet the pig or horse for a few seconds and be later told that I was slacking off during chores. Me and a few of the clients didn't have a great relationship with and would actually be bullied in which staff did very little to help. i almost got into a fight with a kid when he randomly poured water on me the staff was there and saw the whole thing it was a big thing but the point is that they said I poured the water on him. these testimonies they put in the "notes" went to my therapist and jeopardized my stay here I thought about suicide a few times while I was here a thought that hadn't popped into my head for a long time. don't send your kid to the trail house, I got a little worse than when I came there. I recommend Crossroads in Utah I went there not to long go and the stay was comforting and helpful we had lots of freedoms, which I didn't expect but it makes more sense when you think about it the more freedoms you have the less you feel like you need to hide or need to seek something out, its by nature that you would want that you cant have or being blocked from getting. it's not like Crossroads is giving you the opportunity to get stuff, the staff watch you 24/7 when out of the house and it is possible to get stuff while your at your time here they teach the consequences of using when they drug test you, all the amazing things that you can do like go skating at there own personal indoor skate park, watching a movie at the theatres, rock climbing, going to the gym, use the tv or your mp3 are all gone, plus a staff is constantly watching you when in the house. the statistics as of when I was there for another kid to come back to the same program was 5% as acsend was more like 60 65 % and it didn't surprise me when I was told this by long time staff. if you have questions about Ascend at Trails House or Crossroads I want to help and feel free to contact me at Krramback@gmail.com read more

We had experience at several other facilities with both PHP and residential, and it wasn't until we switched to Ascend that we found out what mental health treatment should really be. The client program is thorough and focuses on the whole child. Parent support and education is unmatched and I learned and grew as much as my child did. Every single person truly cared about our well-being, from the therapists to the office staff. They were also able to get insurance approval when other facilities couldn't because of their expertise and caring. This is an amazing place my daughter was at Canyons for 100+ days. She got top notch care there for her ODD, anxiety, and depression. We couldn't be more happy with this program. Very safe, beautiful place, comfortable beds, just like home! Farm animals are adorable, and my daughter was so sad to leave, but excited to start a new chapter. We had constant communication with the staff and our daughter, we never felt out of touch or not knowing what has happening at the house. Insurance was a huge factor for us and Ascend worked closely with our insurance provider to make sure our daughter was covered the whole time. The doctors and staff take great care of the girls and make sure everyone is safe. They also did a genome test to verify the medications out daughter was on would help her. All medication was discussed with us at length before any changes where made and they made sure she was stable on her doses before any changes where made. We also had and still have support from other families and pers in the program that help you through this difficult process. terrible program. mentors are unqualified, therapists do not care. they do not even have a psychiatrist to administer medication, it is a nurse partitioner and they should not be making any decision about your child's healthcare. it is so easy for clients to self harm and it is supposed to be a safe environment. the staff does not care about clients. if you are crying and not well enough to go back to group after your 40 minute session with your therapist, they will force you to go back because they their time is more valuable than your wellbeing. i created a yelp account just to share how horrible this program is. read more

Quick summary before my story: I went to ascend. Never go if you have an eating disorder- caused me to relapse because of their negligence. Really great for helping to develop skills for everyday living and challenges. I went to Ascend's Magnolia house in early 2023. I struggled with Anorexia, Depression, PTSD, Anxiety, ADHD, gender dysphoria, gender dysmorphia, etc etc. I spent around 2 months there. I also had substance abuse and extreme anger issues/ horrible family relationships. Going to Magnolia completely changed my relationships. I was able to slowly form a relationship with my mom after 17 years of trauma. My depression and SI/HI/SH all were manageable. This place taught me so many skills and tools that I could use and still use till this day. Unlike other residentials I've been in, they strongly reinforced rules, discipline, and extreme condition. I felt like a prisoner in there. I never truly built bonds with anyone or the staff due to their cold reinforcing behaviour. obviously, it is their job to do so, and most of them were great when they weren't barking orders at you. As mentioned earlier, I also struggle with Anorexia. I went to magnolia hoping to work on that. I had previously been in residential for months for my anorexia, but I had relapsed. Ascend said they treated 'disordered eating' on their website- and to confirm- my mom was assured that was the case. Ascend triggered my ed much worse than before, causing me to relapse even worse and seeking treatment after Ascend because of the way it was handled. The rules they had around food were awful. My own therapist was using behaviors and spewing lies and triggering topics around eating. She (and no other staff) were clueless whenever they were talking about eating. Horrible. It felt like prison-because it was- but now I'm in a better place aside from some minor trauma from that environment. read more

Ascend Healthcare was a life-changer for our 15 year old son. The team there is the best. The Doctor/ psychiatrist is skilled, kind and wonderful. My son's therapist was great - good at her job, empathic and attentive. We loved her. The entire team was great including the nurses, teachers and mentors. My son said they " helped" him and he "liked being there". He also made some friends at the program that he wants to stay connected with. Our daughter was at the Ascend 'Canyons' house for 11 weeks and is discharging soon. The progress she has made there is beyond what we had hoped for and she is coming home ready to live a healthy, sober and full life. We are most thankful for the amazing staff, especially her therapist Carla but also Hannah and the Program Directors Kyle & Madison, for being unbelievably supportive every step of the way. She felt part of the family shortly after she got there and between the mentors, the therapists, the chef, everyone was so caring. Even though she had a rocky start and some rough patches along the way, the staff didn't give up on her and she really flourished during her time at Ascend. We valued the many therapeutic groups that were offered to the kids, especially the DBT Skills Group and the Shame and Resilience Group. We also valued the caring staff, the very organized schedule, the adorable farm animals and the sense of responsibility the kids learned taking care of them, the fun activities that were planned for the kids on the weekends, and the Multi-Family Groups held onsite/remotely every other Sunday. And last but not least, Dr. Lisa Acosta who got her on meds that actually seem to be working for her after a lot of hit and misses over the years. Ascend has been the greatest gift to our son and our family. The program and the staff literally saved our son's life. It was not a matter of if our son was going to die, it was a matter of when. We were in crisis. We were lucky enough to come across Ascend last year in our search for a residential program and we are forever grateful. We have had experience with a few therapeutic programs and Ascend set the bar really high. From the owner to the therapists, the mentors, nurses and all the way to the chefs, every staff member has made a positive impact on our son's life, progress and success. It is a family run program and the care and passion they have for the children they treat is beyond anything we have experienced. We feel like family, truly. They love what they do; they strive to improve all the time. The families and clients are their most important focus. Our therapists were phenomenal. They were able to see what style of therapy our son would resonate with best and they were able to help him through his trauma and start his recovery. They connected with our son and our family in a way that helped us all grow, learn and heal. The whole family is critical in the success of treatment. Ascend wraps the whole family in their arms and provides all the supports (parent coaching, family therapy, family visits, parent support groups, alumni support groups, educational webinar groups) you need and then some. When your child needs therapeutic treatment, it is a scary and daunting task to find the right fit. There are a lot of places out there. We have found the ones owned and operated by families, not corporations, are by far, the best ones out there. Ascend is a model for how all therapeutic programs should be run. Our son went through the residential program at Trails and the Culver City PHP program. Never once did we feel unsure or that our child was not in the most supportive, caring and best place possible for his healing journey. We have met some of our most supportive allies, other parents, through Ascend. Our son has met a couple of his closest friends through Ascend. No place is perfect for every child. We have been to a place that was crappy and wasn't a fit for our kid. You have to do your homework and find out what place will fit your particular child's needs. If your kid is a runner for example, California may not be the right placement. The laws in each state will dictate what those programs can and cannot do. But, in my opinion and experience, Ascend is by far the most trained and capable in California of handling these kids in crisis. The greatest compliment of all and the most concrete example of how impactful Ascend has been for our son; his goal now is to work towards becoming an employee at Ascend in the future. That is how much he loves the staff, believes in the program and shows what a positive impact it has made on his life. If you are in the most difficult place of your life deciding where to send your child for therapeutic treatment, I would highly recommend Ascend. You and your child will feel safe, supported and you will be in a place where the healing can begin. You can exhale. You can regroup. You can rebuild. Our daughter was getting out of UCLA mental health hospital and we needed to find a residential program. We are so lucky we found Ascend Magnolia House. It was a great placement for our daughter and it literally saved her life. The program also involves the entire family and it was very intensive and worthwhile. This program and the exceptional staff turned our lives around with the utmost care, love , respect and professionalism! Our son felt welcomed, safe and deeply seen and cared for every step of the way. The parenting classes, while there were a lot, were worth every single minute we spent in them! Ascend is a well run and diversely staffed organization and they do not miss a beat. The entire staff from the head office to the chefs and other "kitchen magicians" and cadre of therapists are caring, knowledgeable and they all get to know your child personally, which matters so much. It was an absolutely wonderful place and I felt so lucky to have found it for my child. The program involved the whole family and learning many skills to work through the struggles. They also have such great support for the parents and children. The therapists, mentors, psychiatrist, and the rest of the staff were very caring, knowledgeable and kind. This is a solid program with great people. It is a new program (as of 2017) and still working out some of of the kinks (hence not a 5th star) but I am sure they will work them out in time. The staff there helped our family tremendously during one of the most difficult times in our lives. I could not have wished for a better recovery and healing experience for my child than what we both found at Ascend. The psychiatrist is extremely thorough, from meds. to supplements, she got my child off everything that has not been helping, and my child was put on the right meds. that have improved the quality of their life tenfold. The therapists are phenomenal and welearned so much. The night staff are extremely well trained and supported my child through some very difficult moments in the middle of the night. Truly dedicated, professional, and caring staff, and a holistic approach to recovery and healing. Not only did they provide outstanding care, I felt like they cared for my child as one of their own. Amazing facility that was an absolute life changer for both my son and our entire family. The clinical staff is top notch - experienced, diligent, and caring. The support staff were phenomenal and, believe it or not, were really liked and appreciated by both us (parents) AND our teenage son! They understood that sometimes tenuous relationship and provided support and insight to both 'perspectives' - not always an easy task! The administration was excellent at helping us through the difficult decision of admission, guiding us through the insurance land mine, and updating us every step of the way. It doesn't hurt that the house itself is in a beautiful setting, the grounds and surroundings calming and peaceful, and that the therapeutic activities provided amazing opportunities for growth. Amazing place !!! I can't say enough wonderful things about Ascend. We were in a dark place with our child and they helped us find the light! The support, love, care, knowledge of all the staff is so great. He had been in therapy for years and no one was able to break through until he entered this program. Ascend Healthcare gave us our family back. When we decided to send our daughter into residential treatment, I looked at over 30 programs across the country. From intake to discharge, the staff, therapists, and doctors at Ascend have been amazing. The level of care and excellence at Ascend shows a strong commitment to their work all the way from the owner to the in house mentors. I really appreciated the focus on family and the work that they did not only with my daughter but with the rest of the family as well even though we weren't local. I am the mother of a 16 year old daughter who is on the autism spectrum, suffers from borderline personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse. I searched for several months for a facility that could make a positive impact on my daughter. In one word, Ascend is AMAZING. We found Effie and the staff at Ascend to be very professional, skilled, attentive and capable of providing excellent, individualized care. Our son went to Ascend after individual therapy and an IOP failed to help him. He was exposed to several different forms of therapy at Ascend which sparked new passions in him like painting, meditation, yoga and music. He learned coping strategies to manage his anxiety and began to hold himself accountable for his actions related to impulse control and substance use. We cannot say enough about the educational director, Hayden. He really gets these kids and offers sound advice to parents who are struggling to motivate a bright teen who feels lost and overwhelmed in traditional school. The family therapy component, improving our dynamic to support our child's developing sense of self and focus on practical strategies like negotiating house rules to reduce power struggles at home was essential. Our son left the program clearly feeling better about himself and more in touch with his passions. This was what we hoped for as we know our love and desires for him cannot alone help him make better choices. Ascend beautifully facilitated the transfer of our son to the next step in his treatment (a transitional after care program). We never questioned our son's safety at Ascend and were pleased that security, nutrition and physical activity are a priority in the house. read more
