I'd come back for an Ambrosia or Gorilla Juice Cookie Brunch. They were full of flavor and lived up to their description. For food, we shared a basket if onion rings. They were amazing! The food selection is pretty good, but the quality isn't the best. The nachos were rather dry and the pretzels were as well. The beer selection was decent. The ambiance was bright and a bit loud, but a good environment nonetheless. The service was lacking. My huge problem is that this place is TOO family friendly. I know that other peoples behavior is not the fault of the staff but at what point do you tell parents to watch their kids? I was out and about and decided to check this place out while I was in the area. I absolutely loved it! I can't say exactly why I loved it. But just walking up to the front porch made me happy. There is a huge porch where you can dine outside if you prefer. The inside is small but super charming. They didn't have a huge selection of beers but they had enough of a selection to make most people happy! I chose to try the Brown Ale. Loved the name: Mi Prerogative. Fun! The beertenders were super nice and attentive. I was starving and the food smelled absolutely incredible! But I knew I was eating later so I skipped the food. I can't say enough amazing things about this brewery. During the Pandemic I would make sure to get beer from them, to both support their business and because their are beer, specifically their sour beer, was the best in metro Detroit. Their menu is small, however everything is amazing. You can't go wrong with their nachos, especially the guacamole which I have lustful dreams about. The sour beer here is bananas amazing, and they have beer with some banana stuff in it as well. The only negative things I could say, I wish they had a bigger menu because they do such a great job and they would do tacos more. My mom and I stopped by here. I was really wanting a beer on a patio to enjoy the nice weather and we lucked out. It's pretty easy to drive right by and not even see it. So trust your GPS - it is in that plaza. We snagged a table on the patio and got served pretty promptly. Mom got their lager and I got the Kaizen. We were both really impressed with our beers. Our food was good too. The nachos portion was really generous. And mom's wrap was really filling. Our server was friendly and attentive and we loved the overall vibe of the place. I've been to Ascension several times and I'm not impressed. The beers are decent enough but there is no real atmosphere to the place. Feels like they got an empty room and threw some tables in it. The worst thing about it is the service. The bartenders are downright arrogant. They take the fact that they know a bit about beer a little too seriously for me and they can be quite rude in my opinion. The servers aren't much better. This place has been on my list to try for a long time. I had high hopes as reviews were quite positive. I really wanted to like this place. Aesthetics were nice, outdoor seating, rustic interior and a casual vibe. I don't prefer the walk-up ordering, but I didn't want that to sway me even though it did. It feels very rushed to have to look at a menu on your phone, pick out all your food and also try to choose your drink selection. People line up behind you and it is uncomfortable to make someone wait behind you. We choose a chicken sandwich, fried spicy cauliflower, truffle fries and a burger. While we waited for our food, we noticed that there is no table service and you have to order refills by getting in line again. The line, was at times, about 4-5 people deep. This style of service just doesn't lend to a relaxing outing. We sat for a long time and noticed that there was food up by the kitchen area window just sitting there by a nearby fan. There was a runner that appeared to be the person that was supposed to be delivering our food. But, he was conspicuously absent and we spotted him outside talking to some people for a long time. Fearing the food would be very cold, I went up to the bar person and asked her to see if that was our order. It was and when we got our food, all of it was cold. The burger was dry and overcooked and because everything was cold, all the food fell flat. The cauliflower bites had potential, but too cold to enjoy. Just as a note, the guy that was supposed to deliver food orders was still outside talking to a table of people for about 25 min more. Sadly, the casual atmosphere seemed to extend to poor service. In summary, this was not a good experience, the food was forgettable and the service, or lack there of, just made things worse. Small place, clean and great staff. Quick with a smile and to offer help. Kind of smells funny in the room at first but it's the stills, I think. Their COVID precautions are good thought they aren't limiting capacity. It's a popular place that was full by 6:30, when we decided to leave. Surprising for a Tuesday but understandable once we tried the food. Great little menu. I tried the truffle fries and bacon board. Bacon was a bit burnt but I liked the concept. The fries were very well done and good. They came with garlic sauce for dipping. The half order of pork nachos was perfect for my friend and all was excellent with the drink selections. To drink I had the Cubert which was their sour. It was good but only in a 12oz so had to have two :) My friend had the stout and kept it to one since it was 10% abv. We had been here a couple of times after they opened. We absolutely loved all of the offerings. The Mac and cheese was our FAVORITE, hands down!! We then rescued a pup that has separation anxiety and, knowing what came with that, we had to give up many an outing, until we found Bring Fido, and it has been a blessing. When we saw Ascension was pup friendly we had to come back for the Mac and cheese, and the beer!! Pure decadence! We were absolutely not disappointed!!! Better than before! Beer selection is amazing, it's ALL made in house!! The beers on tap are amazing choices. Love that there are no national known brands here, which is a win. Haven't been in years but saw on Facebook they were revamping the menu and decided to check it out again. I am so glad we did. The new options all look fantastic and I am eager to try them all. The buffalo cauliflower is out of this world. I love the size options. The cheddar pub soup is still fantastic. I was going for some lighter fare this time around but there really are so many new options I am excited to try. The beer selection is interesting. Some standard, pale ale, brown ale, IPA's but there are so unusual offerings as well. Comes down to your own palate. Servers was good. We sat at the bar and the bartender was helpful, friendly despite never not working. Ascension Brewing is a neat place tucked into a corner of a group of buildings. There is outdoor seating as well as indoor. The staff was friendly and gave great recommendations. The La Manana hard seltzer had a pineapple and coconut taste. It was awesome! We had the Ono Chicken burger and the Mango Jalapeño Burger with a side salad with cucumber wasabi dressing. The chicken was cooked well, the pineapple was grilled with a sweet taste combined with the teriyaki dressing. The best part though was the whole seed mustard. It helped make the burger. This is a burger that we will order again. The fries were very good. For the Mango Jalapeño burger, the jalapeños had a slight kick, but the mango was very mild, almost missing. I would probably skip this one in the future. The side salad cucumber wasabi dressing was delicious. I would highly recommend it. With the miss on the jalapeño burger and the fact that the dishes we came to try were not available, I am judging this as a 4 star. It was a little hard to find as it's in a strip mall of sorts and the signage isn't very visible. First thing I noticed is that it's very small inside. It was very crowded and seating is a bit chaotic, and it's very loud in there. Dave came over and asked to take drink orders. She ordered some sort of weird Passion Fruit Beer, and I asked for a Manhattan since I'm not a very big beer person. They don't do cocktails, only beer, so I just had a coke. Bummer. However, she enjoyed her passion fruity beer and we were off and running. Dave came back for our orders and she ordered a half order of the Mr. Piggins Nachos. I had the 3 for $12 Street Tacos which there a five to choose from so I had the Creole Shrimp, Steak, and Pork Carnitas tacos. She absolutely loved the Nachos though she did say that the BBQ sauce, or whatever it was that made it too sweet. The pulled pork was very good, I took a bite and agreed completely, whatever the sauce was, too sweet, but it was still good. She said that if she had them again she would order the Nachos with no chips, no sauce. She would just want the meat and veggies and the cheese which she said was amazing. She also had a Key Lime Beer, which was very good, sour, a bit of a spice flavor that made it a little off. My tacos were all good except every one of them was literally cold. It didn't make them bad but I wouldn't expect cold food. Everything was cooked right and the flavor was great, but cold. Strange. I give the food 3 stars, the service gets 4 stars, and the atmosphere gets 2 stars due to how loud it was, and that the food I had was cold. Would I recommend going there, probably, at least to try it, but I don't know if we'll be going back. read more

First time stopping in. Atmosphere was chill and laid back. Love the tap handles very industrial. Staff was friendly and helpful. They have a small menu of beers and an impressive food menu. We ordered a Flight of 4 Beers. Rumpus Time, The Phoenix, Tikhal and the 15 Mile. We also tried a small sample of the Kilgore Stout. The 15 Mile was tasty, sweet, which I don't usually love but not overpowering. I really loved the Kilgore Stout even if it was Nitro. I'm not a huge Nitro fan but I really enjoyed this beer. The Rumpus Time was my least favorite but my husband really liked it. We will be back to try more things and maybe explore the food as well. read more

This is a good place to have good craft beer with friends. I came here with a few out of town colleagues at the suggestion of a friend. This is a quaint brewery, not a word I would typically associate with a brewery. Quaint because it was a small to medium size restaurant next to a few other businesses with an unsuspecting facade. The interior is very warm and cozy, reclaimed wood on the walls, mix of large high top round tables that can seat four as well as regular tables. It was a Wednesday night and wasn't crowded so we were waited on promptly - food came out quick and our waitress was very attentive. The beer was great! Nice selection of fruity and hoppy beers. All of it brewed in small batch. I'm not a connoisseur but I have to say this was good craft beer. My colleagues who are from Germany thought so as well and they definitely know beer. As far as the food, I would describe it as typical pub food. The descriptions on menu make everything sound unique. It was good pub food, not great. For apps we had the guacamole with chips - a lot of chips and a little bowl of guacamole, good Guac though. Also had the soft pretzels - 3 soft pretzel sticks on the plate with three small cups of dips on the side. Killer Mac and Cheese with pulled pork for dinner came in a small crock dish loaded melted cheese, not very creamy. Atmosphere is comfy, relaxed. We used to frequent this place regularly. They used to have really good beers with a really spectacular variety. The last two times we've stopped in the variety was non existent. Tonight there were 7 choices in tap (I don't go to breweries to get a can of beer). There were 3 Imperial stouts (all greater than 10% ABV), one barley wine (), one Miller Lite and a sour. Long gone are the days of the Phoenix other tasty treats. Two of those choices would have sufficed if we could actually get someone to take our order. In his defense the waiter did chase us out into the parking lot to apologize after we left with nothing but warm tap water in front of us. Note taken: Not a brewer anymore, just a restaurant that has a couple of "beers". I've heard about this place before, and even though we aren't huge drinkers, I noticed that they seem to have a decent selection of food, so we went ahead and tried the place out. I noticed they had flights (5 ounce beers) which I am all about since I don't always finish my drink. They have a great beer selection and I went with a fruity drink. My date went with the chicken wrap and I went with two steak street tacos. The food was good, but the selection was just okay. I wanted to try the nachos, but all they had were pork and chicken. I wanted beef since I don't eat pork and the chicken (I think) doesn't come in a half size. So, that is how we ended up with tacos! LOL. My beer was okay, but super duper tart, so I had a hard time finishing it. I do love their beer variety tho. The food was good, and the service was good, but I feel like they could do something about the acoustics. It really reverberates in here, and they could fix it. Also, I rounded up because they have a TV in here, and were playing a youtube clip of Golden Retriever puppies playing in a pen. What a nice additive! I've been here several times for drinks after work with friends, but last night was the first time going for dinner and I was extremely impressed! I ordered LaKatz to drink (it was very easy to drink for someone who isn't that into beer) and the Brewery Grilled Cheese. The grilled cheese was phenomenal with a blend of cheese, onions, bacon, and tomato inside. The tomato bisque it came with was lovely and it came with kettle chips, too. But the beer... a brewery's raison d'être... was just weird and served inappropriately. I tried two different stouts. My wife tried two different IPAs. We shared. The brewmaster IMO is trying too hard to be different. And our beers were all served in glasses resembling brandy snifters; definitely the wrong shape for either a stout or an IPA; it does make a difference. Friends have recently given this place some kudos, so last night we ventured a little further from home than we usually do for a Friday night dinner to try it. Atmosphere is pleasant. The location is a sort of strip mall dressed up to look like a large house. ABC's interior is appointed in rough timber and tin panels for some character, though the furnishings probably contribute a high noise level. We ordered a flight of 5 beers to start. A porter made with coconut and maple was quite sweet--not unpleasant, but definitely a dessert beer. In a light-bodied coconut brown, however, the coco-nuttiness was restrained. It would have made a nice hot-summer-afternoon beer. A English strong ale was a little light for the style and had a disagreeable rusty-bitter taste. The best offerings were an imperial IPA--rich with lots of citrus (and a deceptively light presence of alcohol)--and a dark IPA, which we chose for the follow up pint. I ordered a southwestern chicken salad for dinner. The greens were fresh, and the avocado-poblano dressing had a nice zing, though I'd recommend asking for a second helping of it. The corn in the corn-black bean salsa was a little tough, and the kitchen did skimp on the chicken. My wife's chicken quesadillas, on the other hand, were anything but skimpy. They're actually on the appetizer menu, but if you're planning to order a meal, I wouldn't order them unless there are at least three in your party. She couldn't finish them, though there were very good, full of spicy chicken, tortillas seared crisp. The beer here deserves a 4 stars so highly recommend if you're coming just for drinks. It's been awhile since I've come here so none of the beers I've had in the past were on rotation. However, today we tried the IPA "friends in Columbus" and the cherry vanilla ale which were both good. I've always been impressed with the beer selection here. I had been looking forward to trying the food here. We tried a half order of the nachos. Which were quite good, but even if you're not hungry I'd say go for the full order and take the leftovers home. The half plate seemed a bit overpriced at $9. We then got a burger with fries and a side salad. We went with the mango habanero burger which I have to say was disappointing. The patty size left a lot to be desired. The toppings were lacking. And the sauce was very sparse. Would NOT recommend you order that burger. The fries were very crispy and fresh. Delicious. Side salad was pretty standard and maybe the dressing was too watery. I'd recommend this place just for the drinks. So would I come back, yes, and I would still recommend it. Next time I'm in the mood for food I'm going to try the tacos,however, because those actually looked quite appetizing from what I could see from my neighbors. I've never written a negative review for a restaurant/bar (especially a brewery) because I used to be a server and usually give the staff benefit of the doubt when things go wrong, but this visit warranted it. I came in by myself shortly after 4 pm when they opened and needed to kill some time, and had my laptop to do some work and have a beer or two. I was seated at a high top and immediately noticed the chairs were way too tall for the height of the table - I've never experienced this before and it was bizarre - your knees are basically in line with the top of the table. This obviously wasn't conducive to working with a laptop so I was eyeing the bar because the height there was normal, but there were four (!!) Ascension employees sitting and hanging out at the bar and no room for an actual customer to sit there. I found it irritating but not a huge deal, and ordered chips and guacamole. It came out and was honest-to-God was one of those gross store-bought brands, like Sabra or Wholly Guacamole, with a lot of brown spots. Once I finished my beer (Triumph Pale Ale - not bad, not great), I was looking around for the waitress to either cash out or see about moving and getting a spot at the bar because I had pretty much had it with the weird and uncomfortable table-chair situation. She was over by the kitchen window doing some side work it looked like - no big deal, but after a while waiting I realized she had no interest in checking on me and thought her time better spent flirting with the rest of the staff. Okay, I get it, like I said I worked in a restaurant and maybe you're not expecting the solo 25-year-old female to give you a big tip, but your tables can see you ignoring them...? After standing there a while and unable to flag down anyone's attention, I put down a $20 bill I had and left. Trust me, I way overpaid, but my time was worth more than waiting around for them.
