One of my favorite memories in PR. In the center of the loud bustling Placita de Santurce, where outside there is loud music playing, people dancing, dogs running, Asere is a quiet cocktail bar with inexpensive food that tastes amazing. Take a look at this Mac and cheese!! Our server was kind and helped us brush up on our Spanish! There is an even more intimate cocktail lounge on the second floor that is more like a speakeasy.
So what do you do when your waiter appears stoned? That's giving him the benefit of the doubt. He forgot to bring water four times, only bringing it the same time as the check. And the times he disappeared. Or the times he came back to check what we ordered for drinks. Three times. But we sat out in the plaza which was a little loud but fun. Well except for the worker who kept sneaking in a smoke or a vape in breathing distance. The drinks were good though and not too expensive. I went for the "Thai" which had plenty of rum. The Cuban sandwich spring roll was tasty with a mustard/relish to dip in. The guava balls of cheese were so so. Half of it was warm half was not. The ceviche in a half an avocado was a huge and tasty. The fried red snapper was decent. The dish was fresh Schuchat was a start but it wasn't fried in any batter leaving portions of it just over cooked or tough to eat. Oh and their credit card machine was down. So cash it was. Just not the best dinner for us.
This place was perfect for some tapas and coconut mojitos. We started off with the cubano sandwich that came with fries. We then tried the plantains with shredded beef with cheese, shredded chicken tostone cups and the ceviche. The ceviche was my favorite!! I literally couldn't stop eating it. The staff were so friendly and took some nice pics of us. The service was excellent. The ambiance was amazing since we were in the heart of La Placita. All I know is I'm coming back!!
The food is amazing and flavorful. Service is very slow so you'll be here a while. When we first walked in, I was confused because the host table is actually a few steps into the restaurant. It was very easy to get seated and they are able to accommodate large groups. There was a table of 10 next to us, we were just a table of two. It was nice and cozy. I had the ginger Mojito, which was very flavorful, and my friend had the coconut Mojito, which was also very good. I enjoyed the mixture of all the flavors.. We some shrimp tocinos, plantains with beef on top, and the cheese balls. We also had rice with beans mixed in together, the Rice was a little bit dry. The cheese balls were my favorite! They had the perfect amount of crunch and melted very nicely into my mouth. The plantains were very good and the shredded beef on top was a nice touch. My only complaint - and it was a big one - was that it took us a while to get our check so we could leave. I'm talking 20 minutes. Prior to that it took 12 minutes to get us sodas to refresh us after the alcoholic beverages. If the food wasn't so good, I would have been much more upset. But overall I had a great time.

On our last night in San Juan, we found out about Asere through Open table and luckily we did! It was such an amazing dinner before heading back home. Luckily we had a reservation because it was busy. There were a few parties that came after us that had to wait a long time to be seated. We decided to sit outside because there were music playing from nearby restaurants. Just the whole vibe and atmosphere was great. FOOD - we got the fried pork mofongo, ceviche with taro chips (although the chips were a little burnt, it was still delicious with the ceviche), spring rolls. We did not want to over order and these three dishes portion wise was good enough for two people! I highly recommend the fried pork mofongo. The mofongo itself was amazing! Highly recommend this place for dinner!!
Unfortunately in our several day long trip in PR, this was our worst food experience. Staff were helpful. But whatevar we ordered was lacking in taste, freshness, seasoning. Cuban sandwich - rating 1/5 Mofongo with chicken - rating 0.5/5
The last spot we had dinner in Puerto Rico and also the best food we had. Started of with some appetizers such as the tropical ceviche and then the plantains. Both tasted great, with the ceviche being very refreshing and the plantains being sweet. For entrees, we got the cubano sandwich, the tacos special, and then the churrasco. The cubano sandwich was meaty, and toasted perfectly. The churrasco (cooked medium well) was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. And the tacos were straight up delicious. They also had a great pina colada, not overtly sweet nor too much ice. The service was also fantastic, and the ambiance was very nice. Perfect to have a nice dinner date. Glad I checked them out.
Came here for dinner on a random Sunday night. The area was poppin and vibrant. The restaurant was full but we were seated within 15 min of putting our names down. The tables have glass partitions due to Covid so that was nice to see. Everyone wears masks and your temperature is taken on arrival. To drink, I had the passion fruit juice which was really good. To eat I had the Mofongo with fried pork. The fried pork was absolutely ravishing (it is a staple of my people's food as well, Haitian, and this was so so good! One of my favorite foods. Very well seasoned). The Mofongo was good, not the best I've had in PR, but still good. It did sit in some juices (probably from the meat). It wasn't my favorite taste but again, still good. For dessert, I had the tres leche and OMG! A MUST HAVE!!! The flavors were succulent. They allowed us to split our checks. The service was good. One of our servers was a bit rushy which caused her to get one of the orders wrong... but otherwise it was great! Highly recommend
Came here on my last night in Puerto Rico with my bf & I'm so glad we did! The place itself is very cute the tropical leave benches give it such a nice touch. The service was great! We had to wait like 5 minutes to get seated which was not bad at all! Our waitress was so kind and attentive, really appreciated that. I wish I could remember her name but she had dark hair with blonde streaks. We got the fish bite appetizer to begin with and WOW they are so delicious get them if you come here you won't regret it, the accompanying aioli is to die for as well! We liked it so much we ordered it again! For my entree I got the churasco with tostones. Again the sauce for the tostones was amazing! The skirt steak itself was also very tasty, the only bad thing was that I asked for it well done and it was not well done I know some places refuse to "ruin" the meat lol! My bf got the ropa vieja with rice and beans, very good meal as well. The rice and beans were amazing, the beans were just so flavorful. For drinks I got two parcha margaritas and my bf got a parcha mojito. Both very refreshing and tasty. Overall our meal ended up being $99, which is not bad considering we got two appetizers, 3 large drinks, & 2 entrees. Would definitely return if I'm ever back in PR.
We stopped in to get a bite to eat. The restaurant has outside dining and a small indoor dining area. They also have a second floor area and a rooftop area which we did not see. The dining area was a bit dark but they did provide some candles at the table. For starters we had the Cuban sandwich spring rolls which were delicious. It was served with a mustard relish which was perfectly spicy to make the spring roll pop. For my entree I had the Churrasco served with an avocado salad which was excellent. The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The avocado salad was so good. I love avocados and it was so buttery. My girlfriend had the guava balls which she said were ok.
4 stars. Food and atmosphere was great! Siting at the bar the service was stellar. Our food did come out after a long wait, but it was worth it. The risotto veggie was cheesy and had a nice crunch from all the veggies that were not over cooked. Highly recommend. My wife had the cuban sandwich, which rocked! Thin slices of bread with both ham and shredded pork. Mustard and dill pickle brought it all together. It came with a mound of fries! Drinks were good and the selection was great!

Really nice spot for traditional Puerto Rican food near La Placita! It's a great way to start the evening with a filling meal, to prep yourself for a night of dancing and drinks afterward :) Came here with some friends and without a reservation we were seated quickly outdoors. I ordered the longaniza risotto, which was such a delicious and hearty meal. The crispy pork skin on top was a nice touch to contrast with the creamy risotto. It had a generous amount of sausage chunks too. So good! Ambiance here is excellent since we were outdoors and were able to watch all the fun festivities going on at La Placita. We didn't have any issues with the service. Overall I really enjoyed my experience here! read more
This is the place to go when enjoying a night out at the Placita Santurce. It is located right in the middle of the music. The best is that you can call them and make a reservation, they were super helpful over the phone and even when we were arriving 15min late they told us no problem. The food is delicious! Tasty, great portions and price just right. Highly recommended! Parking is located all right outside the Placita. We found a spot that charged $6, walking distance. read more
Highly recommended this place. The vibes, food, drinks, and service were great. The star of the show was dessert. That guava mousse was one of the best desserts I've ever had. I will absolutely come back. I didn't know what to expect but I love guava so I saved room and I'm so grateful I did. read more

Food was amazing, wait staff was the bar tender, great! I ordered garlic shrimp that wasn't on menu but glad they made it special for me with fries, hubby got hamburger and fries. Slow bc it was still early. But it was worth the Uber read more

Yum!!!! Food took a little long but it was worth it! I had the special shrimp and octopus. Sooo tender and flavorful! My 11 yr old daughter said the rice and beans tasted like how abuelas! That is a big compliment coming from her! Our waitress was so nice and accommodating! Will definitely be coming back! read more
Asere Cubana is right in the center of La Placita. This is a good spot to stop by if you're looking to have a nice meal in the area. Weekends tend to get very crowded, so be sure to make a reservation in advance. I just wanted a quick bite, so I ordered a burger and fries. The burger was pretty decent, but what turned me off the most was when my server entered her own tip without my approval. I always tip, but in this case I didn't get the chance because it was already done for me. If you're serving me, let me customize my own tip for you! read more

We visited on a Saturday night. The restaurant was pretty full but we were seated really quickly. I ordered the 1/2 chicken with rice and black beans and tres Leche cake for dessert. Food-4/5 The portion was huge!!! Definitely enough for two ppl to share if they ordered maybe an additonal side. The chicken was flavorful and moist!!! The breast was not dry at all which you might expect from that part of the chicken. Initially I ordered the red beans but realized it contained pork so I swapped it out for the black ones. The beans weren't anything special. I would choose a different side. The tres Leche was soooooo good however it was such a small portion I ordered a second one to go. Definitely a must try! Service 5/5 Our server was attentative and brought our food out quickly. read more
Fun, delicious, local spot for a Cuban/Puerto Rican meal. Festive La Placita surrounds you and adds to the atmosphere. Great cocktails and delicious food in splittable portions. Don't sleep on the bacon Mac n cheese. read more
Hip spot for dinner with good food and drinks! This Cuban/Puerto rican restaurant is located in La Placita so it is very lively at night. Recommend the empandillas (turnovers with ground beef and mozzarella) and the bolitas de queso (cheese and guava balls) for appetizers. Attentive service and the portions were decent with reasonable prices. I had the salmon with risotto which was perfectly done and very filling. Heard they have a nice roof too but it was closed when I was there read more

I like the rustic feel and the music (Ideas Nuevas). The ambiance is nice, apparently, there's an upstairs too but it's closed today. It comes off as one of those bars where you'd have to look out the window to be sure of what time in the day it is....nice. read more
I came here during a vacation and had heard great reviews before visiting. However, I was not impressed by the bad, slow service and my food wasn't good either. We waited for the food for well over an hour and when asked about the status of our order, we were met with a rude response. This man was not our waiter but he appeared to work there so we asked him if he could find out the status of our orders and he replied "your not the only ones were serving". Really? That's pretty obvious but I've been at larger restaurants with more people and have still gotten my food in a timely manner. When I finally got my food, I was definitely disappointed in the shrimp Monfongo, no flavor whatsoever. The only good thing about this restaurant it's in La placita so it was convenient for us to experience the nightlife right after. read more

Since I'm from Miami, I decided to check out this little spot. It's in La Placita de Santurce on the corner. Since it's a Cuban bar my friend and I decided to ccheck it out. The ambiance is really chill and cozy. We walked in and wanted to sit at the bar. They told us we could sit on the first floor or the second floor. We decided to sit on the second floor. It's a relatively small bar in the second floor, but pretty comfortable. We ordered two craft cocktails and they were great. My friend ordered a Martini and I ordered a vodka cocktail. The prices were relatively expensive for the area, but I guess it's a bit more upscale compared to the surrounding places. This place appears to be more relaxing and cozy maybe for dinner as the cocktails appeared to be on the pricier side. Super cute place though! Very cozy. read more
I came here twice, Friday during the day and Saturday at night. On Friday I had two drinks made by Saul. They were amazing. I know it had whisky but the name was too complex and forgot. Saul is extremely professional and always made himself available. I also passed by Saturday night. I ordered the churrasco and the avocado salad. Wow!! Totally worth it. The chimichurri was AMAZING for the meat. The meat was also well seasoned. Now, the avocado salad. Not only did it look good but I never expected it to be as good as it was. The avocado was fresh and it had a salty sauce on top with tomatoes. It was the right amount. If I go back to PR again, this is my first stop. The La Placita to talk to my old friends. On our recent trip to PR, we had a mofongo a day (I kid you not)... but THIS ONE WAS OUR FAVORITE! Stumbled across Asere for a late dinner in Placita, and were blown away by this shredded beef mofongo. It's basically combining a mofongo with the oh-so-delicious Cuban dish of Ropa Vieja. Mind you, I accept that this is probably a fusion dish BUT HOT DAMN IT WAS SO GOOD. Mofongo was starchy and mashed in with pork rinds - which allowed it to soak up all the delicious juices from the wet and flavorful shredded beef. My mouth is watering as I am writing this. **SWOON** In short - get this dish. It's enough to share and wll not disappoint. Cocktails are also solid and the service is attentive. There is also a lounge/more chill vibe scene upstairs for late night. read more

Located among many very good options at the Placita in Santurce this place ranks shoulder to shoulder to any of its neighbors. We loved cuban food and as such we have visited many cuban restaurants. I would not say its original Cuban taste, but if you are looking for something special and different this deserves a chance. Waitresses are nice and welcoming. I had a swordfish with some mashed crunchy veggie on bottom and fresh mango pieces on top. I would not believe the special taste and combination of flavors I was experiencing. Zero fish after taste, some rare but good spicy on the background and sweet mango pieces. Only texture revealed the fish I was having. I always look for something different and for a plate to amaze me, this one just did. My wife was very pleased with her vaca frita as well. Finally, the cherry on top was the dessert- the three milk cake. Simply amazing. read more

Came here before going out to La Placita. It was an okay dinner. Wonderful atmosphere and environment but we may have came closer to closing. My friend ended up getting sick the next day from the chicharrones on the mofongo. The tostones cups were good though and I like their side sauces. I'd recommend the red beans over the black ones. read more

Food good. Service a little slow. The best part of all the plates were the spices. Everything was so flavorful especially the rice and beans with chicken. The rib eye steak special also had a great juicy flavor, but half the steak was fat. All in all good place to eat dinner in placita! The steak and service give it an average score.... let's say a 3.5... Naw scratch that. The ambiance too cute gotta bump it up to a four. read more

This place is GOOD. We accidentally ended up here after Jose Enrique's across the street was closed for Good Friday and were so glad we did. It's a two story building with an outdoor roof top and a fun ambiance. We went with a group of nine and they let us split the tab three ways. My group got the lobster mac (one of the best I've ever had), empanadas (delish), swordfish pasta special (OMG) and ropa vieja (wow). Seriously everything was so good. Highly, highly recommend. read more

As a Cuban myself, I highly recommend this spot. Great ambiance and beautiful set up. The drinks were strong and tasty. The stuffed tostones were a great appetizer to start. The churasco risotto was a unique dish. read more
