I was at a Yelp event nearby and a gal I met recommended Asha! Since it was just around the corner, the bf and I decided to check it out. We saw a lot of students studying and on their laptops. It was pretty busy; felt a little cramped. We ordered a mango green tea in the regular size ($3.75) and a lemon jasmine green tea with boba in the large size (think it was close to $5). Didn't adjust anything. Btw, the lemon jasmine GT is served year round but their other fruit teas are seasonal so if u see some pictures/drinks online that u wanted to try, don't expect them to have it when u go in. Saw a sign that says "prefers cash." Service was okay. So, their drinks come out w/o lids lol (like Peets coffee). U cap it yourself. My mango green tea tasted alright. U can definitely taste the tea and it had tiny mango pieces too. I prefer my drinks a little sweeter so didn't enjoy it as much. The lemon tea was subtle and refreshing. The boba was really good! I think this spot is good for real tea lovers because they have high quality teas but I'm more of an Itea or Gong Cha kinda gal and don't like teas that have a strong taste. I admit..one of the reasons I wanted to visit Asha was for that cute little tea guy mascot lol! Thankfully, the drinks were pretty good too. We came by on a busy weekend and parking was a little crazy. We ended up parking in a garage about a block away. There was a line but it went fairly quickly. I tried the mango green tea and the matcha latte. The mango tea was okay but the star was definitely the matcha latte, which is one of their most popular concoctions. It is one of the best matcha lattes I've had. Smooth and creamy, the latte is something I would come back for. I also tried their mochi cupcake which had a nice chewy texture but the flavor was a little bland. I probably wouldn't get it again. So i order the HK milk tea w boba. The store is very well kept and easy to order and pickup. There was no more cookies to purchase that was sad. Price is ok but i question the HK milk Tea. I feel like there is zero flavor of tea because they use too much milk and ice. I would suggest no ice for this drink. And if they can use more tea to make the drink that would be so much better. Maybe the tea flavor was used up already in multiple batches? But that would be my assumption as for sure zero tea flavor. THE GOOD - Super high quality tea and seasonal ingredients. Flavors are excellent and real -- no fake powders or over-sweetened mixes. The mochi muffin was very much enjoyed, too. They also have an emphasis on environmentally responsible packaging. Love all this!! THE BAD - Paid extra for fruit in one of our teas and there is no hint of the fruit in it. THE UGLY - Sent my teenage kids in to pick up a large-ish order, but staff were pretty rude to them. They were not greeted when they entered or when they approached the counter. A box with the order was placed on the counter without a word (not even the calling out of the order name) and when my kids checked the receipt and saw my name, they picked up the box and thanked the staff. Again, no response! No matter what size the order was, I would expect better service than this, but I kind of regretted having purchased so much from them with the lack of service here. The raspberry flavor was subtle and so refreshing, I just loved it! I did have to add a few pumps of syrup (self-serve) because I'm a sweet tooth, but would have been perfect without it too~ Customer Service: A++++ I can never decide between two items on a menu, because I'm scared I'll end up choosing the wrong one (just like on an exam.... -.-). I'm always down for a good cup of boba! I've been to Asha multiple times and have always left satisfied. My go-to is their iced matcha latte with boba. Their boba is always fresh, warm, and chewy! Their matcha is also deliciously flavorful, which you can really taste if you get your drink less sweet. I tried their hong kong milk tea (hot) tonight and was just as satisfied. Like any spot to study at near campus finding seating can be difficult. The tables and countertops are large enough to accommodate a good study session. They off tables, solo bar seating, and a non study section as well. Free WiFi, however there are limited power outlets so bring your electronic devices fully charged. OLD FASHION TEA - WHOLE LEAVES I'm a professed caffeine addict. Every day I drink coffee at work since there's a Keurig Coffee Machine. On the weekdays I drink coffee at a local coffee shop. I know I should try to cut back the coffee by drinking more tea. However it's really hard to find great tea. I remember an old Rick Steves episode of London where he visited a tea museum. A curator at the museum stated the quality of tea has been going down because the tea leaves were chopped instead of whole leaves to brew. When I go to teahouses I can't find teas with brewed whole leaves. About 3 months ago after dinner I went to this place as it was recommended by my friend. I wanted something simple so I decided to get mint tea. To my surprise and delight the mint leaves were brewed whole. Is there a difference in taste of brewed tea between finely chopped tea leaves versus a whole tea leaves? The verdict is yes. The finely chopped tea leaves have a bitter taste, which is why I don't drink tea often, whereas whole tea leaves have a smoother taste that makes the tea refreshing. It does take longer to brew a tea in whole leaves than finely chopped tea leaves. Why the rush? Drinking tea is meant for relaxation. I can't comment on the rest of items as I only had the mint tea. If you want an old fashion tea with whole leaves brewed I recommend the mint tea at Asha Tea House. read more

I've been to this place a couple of times years ago and really enjoyed it but the few times I went back recently I've been really disappointed in the taste and quality of my drinks. The blood orange oolong tea had a refreshing taste but the oolong tea wasn't strong enough. The drink itself had plenty of fresh blood orange pieces but it was slightly too tart. It wouldve been better if it was slightly sweeter. The other drinks I got were pretty bad. For a place that's well known for their matcha stuff I would really expect to actually taste matcha in my drinks. The matcha latte tasted mostly like warm milk with barely any matcha flavor. The matcha affogato came in a super tiny cup and was extremely bitter (i think they put too much matcha). The Hong Kong milk tea didn't taste any better. It tasted like straight up water with boba. I love Asha for the tea quality as well as the variety of offerings. The menu is so creative and genuinely focused on tea, I love the opportunity to try different things with each visit. This latest visit I got to try both the Iced Hojicha Latte with Oat Milk and the Masala Chai Latte. The Iced Hojicha Latte was nice; I rarely get to try Hojicha and I liked how nutty and roasted it was and how well this went with the oat milk. I wish I could've had a stronger Hojicha flavor, however, since these notes were really only an aftertaste. The sweetness level was perfect. The Masala Chai Latte tasted just like chai I have at home, and I mean that in the best way. Not saccharine, full of spices, really warm and comforting. I've also had Asha's Matcha Latte a few times and I'm a huge fan of that; I'd probably recommend this to anyone who wants to visit for the first time. Having been attracted to the decor inside Asha, after passing it on numerous occasions, I was able to finally give it a try. Asha is an attractive tea house. Very modern, clean, and seemed to be a place where folks linger in front of a laptop or a textbook. I could see myself spending some laptop face time here. I got the Asian Pear Oolong Tea, which is one of their seasonal teas. I was disappointed with it on a few fronts. One being that the lowest amount of sweetness available was 50%. I personally like to go down to 25%, but they said they were unable to make any lower adjustment. Instead, I added a drizzle of self-serve sugar syrup that's available on the table. Ok, that worked, I guess. Secondly, I asked if there was fruit in the tea, and was told that there were Asian pears in the tea. I assumed this meant there would be chunks, or at least smaller chunks of Asian pears in the tea, which is common. Instead, it looked like there may have been bits of pulverized pear in the tea. Just not at all what I was expecting, based on the fruit teas I've had in other places. Thirdly, I wasn't asked how much ice I'd prefer, something many places do. I ended up receiving less ice than I would've liked, but realized this when I was already about a block away. I guess I should've been proactive and made my request known, but I was in such a hurry that I didn't even think of it. There are quite a few tables and study spots, but these tend to be filled up quickly by students from campus. The place itself is something to see--the wooden signage and display of teas is quite unique. I ordered the matcha latté, and the drink itself was great for the hot day (I ordered it cold). The matcha was a little bit bitter, so I probably should have gotten the liquid syrup found on the side table. It's nice to have the option to customize the sweetness. Overall, the drink itself is fresh and high-quality; however, the price of $5 for a small drink is steep. I finished the drink in 10 minutes and paid $5+ (added bubbles). I liked it and would maybe order it again, but I give Asha 4 stars for their high prices--even if their drinks are better quality than most boba shops. read more

Unfortunately, my favorite is the Asian pear oolong which is one of their seasonal teas. I had never seen a hipster tea shop until today! I was hanging out with a couple of friends in Berkeley on July 4th when one of them told me how impressed she was about Asha Tea House. I suggested we head to Berkeley to get some tea and dessert, with Asha Tea House being our first stop. We parked the Harvmobile about a block away. When we walked in at around 1:00pm, the place was pretty busy, with a short line waiting to order. Originally, I wanted to Hong Kong Iced Coffee. But when it was my turn to order, I realized the menu on the wall was only a partial one. I quickly changed my mind and got a large cold matcha latte instead. With pearls added, that and the large Hong Kong Milk Tea my brother wanted cost me $10.50. Our friends got a large Iced Honey Green Tea and a regular Iced Raspberry Oolong Tea. I started looking around while we waited for our drinks. I loved the high ceiling and modern decor of the place. Seating was comfortable. There were a couple of people working on the laptops so I assumed they have wi-fi there. The vibe reminded me of all these new hipster coffee shops in Oakland and SF. My two drinks were ready within minutes. The matcha latte was smooth in taste. It wasn't too bitter. I could tell high quality matcha powder was used for the drink. I didn't care for the pearls though. They were soft and mushy. Overall, the drink was okay. I tried my brother's Hong Kong Milk Tea. Simply put, it didn't taste like the real thing. I also asked my friends about their drinks. I was told the Raspberry Oolong Tea "tasted like a Starbucks drink" and my friend had to add honey to his Honey Green Tea himself. Service was adequate. The guy who took my order was polite. Overall, I have had better drinks elsewhere. I would only return to Asha Tea House if opportunity presents itself. Definitely not worth a special trip IMHO. My first thoughts- I was not expecting anything when I stepped into the store because I don't really like to try new milk tea/tea places, but Asha Tea House blown me away! The interior is so modern looking and made me comfortable with the clean environment. Flavors- I ordered their lemon jasmine tea (I believe) and it was so good. I savored every last drop of the beverage. One of the best fruit teas I've ordered IN MY LIFE. The tea flavor was there and the lemon was not sour, which surprised me. I also tried some of the Hong Kong milk tea with the sea salt foam and it was SO GOOD too. My aunts and mom ordered some matcha drinks and they said it tasted pretty good. I am not a fan of matcha desserts and things alike but it did not taste bad. As for the boba, it was the perfect consistency for me. It was chewy and bouncy and is one of the best boba I've tried. a solid legit tea spot in berkeley one of my faovrites. There are a lot of boba/milk tea spots in this town but there is a different feel to this place compared to most of the others. While the prices are a bit higher, you can see and taste the difference in the tea you get. A lot of other tea shops are cheaper and fast but the quality isnt there like this place. The selection of teas here is excellent, also if you like matcha this place has actual legit matcha that they make properly. The service here is friendly and welcoming to any newbie tea drinker. The actual space is fairly larger enough you could hang out for a bit and if you're lucky to find some table space maybe even get some work done.
