She is one of the only hairdressers I've ever gone to and totally trusted...no matter what she does, I always love it. I was referred to Kelly by a friend and then referred another girlfriend after that. The three of us swear by Kelly's cuts and won't go anywhere else A month and a half ago, while Kelly was on maternity leave, I went to another salon on the recommendation of a friend. Lets just say her hairdresser butchered my hair! I literally could not style my hair after trying the other salon. The second Kelly came back from Mat leave I went to her and she totally fixed my horrible cut. BEST. HAIRCUT. EVER. I am going to be perfectly honest here-I have suffered through every crap haircut imaginable at various spots around town. I either ended up having the "Rachel" (um, ok if I were channeling 1996), the blah, and the Mindy Cohen, aka "Natalie" on the Facts of Life. Today, I found the ONE who made all my pain and mullet suffering disappear. I bought a coupon on Bloomspot for Danielle. Easy to book, super nice and accommodating. Made it to my appointment a few minutes late and she was as sweet as pie about the whole thing. Let me tell you-this woman knows how to cut your hair. I showed her some pics and she knew exactly what to do. She cuts dry, washes, styles and is absolutely meticulous. She showed me how to style my hair at home with a flat iron. After reading all the wonderful reviews, I was so excited to get my hair done here. I have gone to the same stylist for 15 years, and unfortunately she moved a few months ago. I made sure to communicate with my stylist exactly what I wanted, which was nothing unusual; touch up my roots, highlight, and cut. Let me also say, ( as humble as I can), that I consistently get compliments on my hair, due to a high profile job, and my formerly magic hairdresser. What I got at Ashen, was the WORST haircut I have ever gotten anywhere! It has taken 7 months, for my hair to grow out enough, just to have it reshaped. And the color she did was terrible too. No highlights in the back of my head, or underneath throughout my hair, and the color she did on my roots was drab. My hair looked 10 times better before I got it done at Ashen. She did NOT KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING, & did not seem to be the least bit current on how to cut and color hair, altho she claimed to be very experienced. I am not out to ruin anyones career, so I won't name her, but I am a local, and would never ever recommend this salon. And for $300.00 plus a tip, it was the biggest waste of money, not to mention such a disappointment. read more

After moving to San Diego I had been struggling to find a good hairstylist for the past 4 years. I discovered Ashen Salon and requested an appointment, letting them know my hair color, type, and services I needed. They recommended me to Rosa, assuring me she would be a good fit for all my hair needs. Upon arrival I was embarrassed to have to show her my destroyed hair that I bleached at home during quarantine. My hair was mostly different shades of yellow, completely uneven with lots of orange near the roots. Though I figured it might be unrealistic with how much damage I had already done, my hope was to get my hair lighter, remove all the brassiness, and make it a shade of blonde that would go well with my skin tone and dark eyebrows. After telling her my hopes, Rosa explained that adding more bleach to my hair would be too damaging right now, but that we would be able to fix the brassiness and prepare my hair to be bleached for my next appointment. She went through a color swatch book with me and showed me colors that would go beautifully with my skin tone and gave her recommendations. We decided on a blonde tone that I loved and a dark tone for the root smudge, and she even suggested adding a bit of rose gold for a pop of color. She did the root smudge and toned my hair, and upon washing it out she even did a deep condition to make my damaged hair a bit healthier. She gave my hair a trim to get rid of any split ends and styled my hair beautifully. The final product... AMAZED ME. I absolutely LOVE the color choices and the way they look with my skin. I feel so happy and confident with my hair now and that's all thanks to Rosa. She was absolutely incredible and exceeded all of my expectations. She even went out of her way to pick me up a hair recovery kit for me so the next time I come in, my hair will be ready for lightening. I am so grateful for the magic she worked on my hair. After searching for 4 long years, I am happy to say I FINALLY found a hair stylist that I am going to continue my hair journey with. I owe a big thank you Ashen for recommending me to Rosa, and an even bigger one to Rosa for everything she accomplished with my hair! I could not be happier and would HIGHLY recommend her services and this salon. Ashen Salon is gorgeous. It's maticulously clean and the staff is friendly. Kristina is simply the best in San Diego. I was nervous at first because I am pretty critical on cuts because it's hard for me to do my hair because I have SO MUCH...Before Kristina even washed me, we had a in depth conversation on what I wanted, and I showed her a few photos. The cut was perfect because she took her time and really listened and could invision what I was saying. It takes talent and listening skills to understand what a customer wants. She goes above just seeing a photo and getting it. She is also brilliant at color. I really am not as picky with color but having my hair colored forever, she really wowed me. I'm super picky (and I mean SUPER picky) about my color, and have tried most of the top stylists in the area, but just wasn't finding the right one. With every other stylist I would leave the salon happy but without fail within a week or so I would end up with brassy over processed looking hair. I would ask for them to put some low lights in to break up the blonde and they would all either talk me out of it or I ended up leaving looking some sort of striped mess. I was close to losing hope until a friend suggested I try her stylist, Laura, she claimed that Laura was a master at creating a natural blonde and had also helped her find the right products to maintain her color between visits. I was skeptical to say the least, but since I felt like I had nothing to lose I gave her a shot. OMG! I started coming here about a year ago and had Maryam do my hair. Not only does she do a great job with my hair but she is also very personable & friendly. First timer here and had the one of the best salon experiences ever! Ashley gave me a cut and full hand painted balayage and I'm so in love with my hair. She really took her time to make sure everything was perfect and also explained what she was doing and why, which I really appreciated!! She also gave the BEST scalp and neck massage when she was rinsing out my hair. Everyone there seemed extremely knowledgeable about their craft, passionate about what they do, and the whole atmosphere of the salon was just friendly and comfortable. The only downside were the chairs -- the back is very low so there's not a lot of back support and I was really getting an ab workout whenever I leaned back which gets tiring if you're there for 4-5 hours. I've been going to Stephanie @ Ashen for quite a while and she's been fantastic! She's a great stylist, very friendly, and since I started going to her many people have complimented me on my hair - so that says something! She's the only stylist I've seen @ Ashen but so far I'm very happy with the salon. LUCKILY, Alli Hayes is also at Ashen, so I was in luck and didn't need to scour the earth for a good stylist. Alli is great with blondes (or fake ones like me) and she's hilarious. Always fun to kick it with a glass of wine and some laughs while she makes me beautiful. She's really flexible with appointment time. This is great for me since I usually am so busy that suddenly I look in the mirror one day and realize that I have some trailer trash beauty queen roots going on and have limited windows of time to try and squeeze in some emergency highlights before an important event. Went into this salon for the first time with a vague idea of how I wanted my hair to look and a couple pictures to give an idea. I initially thought I wanted highlights but then I showed Erica some pictures and she told me what I wanted was a balayage. I was pretty clueless on what a balayage was but I trusted her and the painting began! She did an AMAZING job on my hair and made it look even better than I had hope for. My hair was such a mess before. I hadn't gone in for a haircut for over 2 years and had bleached and dyed It at home, so I was a little worried it would made the process difficult.
