I have naturally dark blonde or light brown hair. Two times before, I have gotten my hair lightened by highlights/balayage at other salons, but I always felt like I wanted my hair (and more of it) slightly blonder than I got. Once my balayage grew out, I booked an appointment with Jenny for a touch-up, and right away we talked about what she could do for my hair. Rather than just touching up my existing balayage, she listened to my desire to go blonder and did an AMAZING job. The pricing at this salon is similar to other salons in the area (if not slightly less expensive considering the level of blonde I got done). Plus, Jenny (and the surrounding stylists) made the whole experience a fun one. They included me in conversations, played good music, and treated me like they would a friend. The parking situation is a bit tricky because there is only two hour parking with meters outside the salon. So, I had to move my car once so that I wouldn't get a ticket. When Jenny was finishing up styling my hair, I noticed my second parking was about to expire. Another stylist, Niki, immediately went out to where my car was and graciously paid for another hour (even though I didn't need that much time) so that I wouldn't get a ticket. I know the meter didn't cost much, but found that to be really generous and showed the salon's commitment to taking care of their customers. Hair dresser, Amalia, was a true joy! It was fun to connect with someone who is truly passionate about what she does. I received a wash and haircut. She did a wonderful job and was very focused on a successful cut and pleasant experience. I loved it! The location is adorbs. I just love the naturistic and open garage concept. The farmers market happens on Tuesdays which I wasn't aware of, so parking is a little tough. I did stress out about my car potentially being towed away since I could see cars being hauled away. Amalia checked in with the owner who said I should be fine if I parked along a street. She also asked me which street I parked on but being that this was my first time I didn't know which street I was on lol. But, luckily I didn't get towed. I was there a little early so I just kind of hung around. Then shortly after, I was asked if I had an appointment. Then was told it would be a little bit...but again, I didn't mind since i knew I was early. I was offered to sit but was a little apprehensive about the comfort level/ stability of the cute chair. lol my issue, not theirs. I have never written a bad review in my whole life. Yet here I am & I hope that shows how bad my experience was here. I hate that I'm writing this too because I used to like this salon. And I'm not a "Karen," I work with clients myself so I know what its like, however I was treated very unfairly and I don't want someone else to waste their $$ and go through the same thing. I booked an appointment to get a cut + color done. 1. The stylist texts me the day of our appointment, 10mins before as I was already outside the salon, that she fell asleep on accident because she is sick. I was totally okay with that because I get it, so I was totally okay with rescheduling. It happens! 2. She texts me again the night before our rescheduled appointment and asks me to reschedule AGAIN. I said no and HAD TO EXPLAIN to her why I can't reschedule again. Yet, I was still okay with everything, I just got over being sick so it was totally okay! 3. I asked for a brown balayage and even showed her the pictures of how I wanted my hair. (Pictures 5&6) Yet, what I got was pictures 7&8. You guys tell me what you think.. 4. I had to rush out because of another appointment and wanted to make sure I wasn't just overreacting. When I saw it fully, I literally bawled my eyes out. I really just had to pay $325 for something I HATE. So I go back to the salon & they were very apologetic but can't do anything because the stylists just rent their spaces & tells me to contact the stylist. 5. I contact her, and she argues with me about what a balayage means. Wont give me any compensation whatsoever nor doesn't offer to fix it and just completely stops responding to me after I send her the pictures of what I showed her vs the result. I honestly felt bad before I texted her because she mentioned to me she was going through some things, but... this is just not how you treat clients/customers. I'm a trainer and even when I'm 10mins late, I will give them the free session because that is not the kind of service I want to deliver. I thought for a few days about whether or not I should leave a review and I decided I should so others could have more perspectives to make an informed decision about whether or not to come here as I trusted the overwhelmingly positive reviews on Yelp and tried Evolv out but was GREATLY DISAPPOINTED. My stylist was Nicky and this review is strictly about my experience with her. I came in with a lot of split ends and communicated very clearly to her to take what she needed to off to make my hair healthy but not more than that and that I wanted long layers like what I had previously with a V shape. I did not ask for a complicated haircut. It's one I've gotten many times and is fairly common. Nicky spoke over me constantly and made it a very stressful and unpleasant experience. She did not give me the haircut I asked for and suggested I try out this different look and said, "If you don't like it, you can come back and change it." I'm a fairly open minded person and was down to try something new. After a few days I knew that I didn't like the cut. She gave me blunt, chunky layers and it didn't look like a good haircut. So I reached out and asked to get it fixed and get the layers and texture I asked for. She told me I needed to pay $40 more to compensate her for her time. I reminded her that I had requested a different style but she pushed me to try this different one with the guarantee that if I didn't like it she would change it. After a lot of pushback she relented. I thanked her and came in the next day. When I arrived she kept on blaming me and saying that I didn't communicate well before but that she's ready to listen now. I showed her photos of what I wanted. I communicated to her VERY clearly the shortest layer I wanted was 2-3 inches below my chin and not shorter. As she was cutting I felt concerned because it looked like she was cutting my hair too short but she continued to talk over me and told me that "she wasn't done yet." In the end the shortest layer was chin length and not 2-3 inches below my chin. I told her, "You said you would listen. I told you what I wanted and you didn't listen. This is not what I asked for." She did not take responsibility. Her response was, "It looks good that way" and "It will grow in in a few weeks." A good haircut looks good immediately. It does not take a few weeks to "grow in." That is what moms who try to save money say to their kids when they take them to Super Cuts and get their hair cut extra short to save money. That is not what you say to someone who pays $100 for a professional haircut. At any salon, regardless of price you should get what you ask for. You should not be talked over. You should not be pushed to try something else when you ask for a certain style and then be blamed when you don't like it. You should get what you ask for. I do not recommend Nicky and I cannot recommend this salon. read more

Prior to my visit I explained I'm on a tight budget and she recommended the best service for what I could afford. When I got to the salon she helped steer me in the right direction in terms of hair color that complimented my features. I wanted to go drastically different and the care she took to get it perfect was so appreciated. Nicole at Evolv has major color skills! I asked her to lighten my hair up so that it has some gold tones like it naturally used to look (it got darker over the years) and she made it look SO NATURAL. She pays attention to all the details and takes her time to make sure it looks exactly like I want. DO NOT GO TO Siobhain MY HAIR IS FUCKN SEE THROUGH BECAUSE OF HER. I was really disappointed in giving this review it took me a while to decide to do this but I think it needs to be expressed. I came in to get only hair color with the stylist Siobhain. I wanted like a blonde belayege she gave me highlights or color correcting because she said it would take sessions, but that's besides the point. She kept insisting that I get a hair cut as she called my hair a Xmas tree. I NEVER wanted a haircut to begin with only color, on top of that I specifically told her I don't like it when stylist leave my hair very thin. As I finally give in to give me a haircut, she said she was only going to "blend it out and that it was going to be easier for the coloring" so I trusted her. She never actually discussed what kind of hair cut or she was doing only started to go in all over my hair with shears. My hair is now all gone, she left my voluminous thick hair to 3 strands and not only that but the toner washed out immediately after I took the first shower. Some parts of my hair were green, other orange (which I initially had copper) and some yellow. I feel like I paid someone who I thought I could trust to ruin my confidence and hair, now my hair is ruined and her reaction to it when I told her how I was feeling is that "to leave it alone that it'll grow" and super rude and defensive comments about how orange my hair was and that's all she could work with but it doesn't justify the cut at all. I'm really disappointed and hurt by this. As I also tried to befriend her outside of the salon and when I expressed my concerns to her she got defensive. I am really really upset and grieving my hair because it has never in my entire life has it looked this thin EVER and it's something I've never even asked for. If the owner sees this I'd really like her to reach out to me because this is unacceptable and I'd like to get a refund to get extensions because I cannot stop crying. Although Siobhain demeanor was friendly and professional the delivery was just unacceptable. I will never let her touch my hair again and I wouldn't advise anyone to do so either at least not for haircuts because clearly she doesn't know what's she's doing. My hair used to take me an hour to style now it only takes 15 mins that's how bad she fucked up my hair DO NOT LET HER GIVE YOU A HAIRCUT IF YOU WANT TO HAVE HAIR. I PAID $443 just to get my hair ruined because the color is not even close to anything that I asked for she gave me more highlights. I kept calling the salon to talk to the owner but Siobhain would answer and wouldn't let me talk to the owner saying that she was with a client every time I called and when I asked who it was she refused to give me her name and just said the receptionist, absolutely unacceptable. Do not go to her! I have random chunks of my hair above my ears at the crowns of my head it's going to take me years if even that happens to grow a whole new set of hair! To reply: I called a few times a few days before the receptionist wouldn't give me her name so I assumed it was Siobhain, and NO I did NOT HAVE YEARS OF BOX COLOR this was discussed with her I never do box dye and I told her when was my last time dying my hair, regardless of that I explained to her my hair lifts easily as she saw. I was understanding of her not being able to get me exactly with my hair inspired which I was ok with but I asked to be closed to it. Second my hair has never been this thin even after many different stylist have decided to blend it out or even it out, she cut too much and it's evident and this is something I mentioned very clearly to her. I said I did not want my hair to be thin and she did exactly that and that's exactly why I'm upset specifically since she's the one who even mentioned a haircut. I feel she gave me a haircut to facilitate herself not what I wanted because there was a time constraint. And in that instance she should of told me to come back another time not for her to decide that it was ok to cut all of my hair off. And yes she we were messaging I wanted to be nice to her because I wanted to stay friends but as you saw she started to get defensive and over exaggerating everything about my hair. And as you saw how is that ok for her to react that way when someone makes a. Mistake they should own up to it instead I noticed she unfollowed me on instagram. My experience with Evolv was so incredibly disappointing that I feel the need to share my dissatisfaction despite my usual unwillingness to leave negative reviews. My appointment was in early April with Nicky Slayz. I came in to raise up my highlights that had grown out. I communicated this to Nicky, and she showed me an example photo that I liked. However, as the service progressed, I sensed a misalignment in our understanding of the desired outcome. Despite expressing my desire to achieve a lighter look, which I thought the highlights would achieve, I left with a dramatic change in color. I was very blonde, in just the mid-action of my hair, with little to no blending. I have attached pictures below to show the blonde, not highlighted, and unblended hair. I could have been understanding of the outcome and gone back to have it fixed; however, the unprofessionalism observed during and after the appointment left me uncomfortable and made me not want to return to the salon. Before starting the service, I couldn't help but overhear Nicky and the owner discussing a previous client's dissatisfaction with their treatment over a phone call. I heard the client be referred to as a liar, and Nicky expressed several times that she offered to fix the client's hair for free and that a full refund would not be issued. (This was a nice offer, but I understand why the client would not want to come in to have their hair done again with a stylist who is so obviously upset with them). This understandably left me feeling uneasy, especially considering it was my first time going to Nicky. Throughout the appointment, there were multiple interruptions due to phone calls, which further contributed to my discomfort and apprehension about the process. The dissatisfied client mentioned before even called, and I heard the entire argument that happened between the client and Nicky. Additionally, I became increasingly concerned when I realized that the bleach had been left on my hair for over two hours in some areas. The owner has since reviewed the footage and told me the foiling process took about two hours; however, they were left on for additional time after the foiling was completed. Meaning that some portions of my hair had bleach on them for more than two hours. I had to walk to the back because Nicky was taking yet another phone call talking about the dissatisfied customer, and I asked her if I should be concerned about how long the bleach had been on my hair. I was told she had set a timer, she had taken out what needed to already (two pieces of hair), and I should not be concerned. My hair is very curly, and now the curls are not as tight as they used to be in the middle sections of my hair, and they have lengthened out due to the bleaching. Upon completion of the service, it became apparent that the outcome did not align with my expectations. I did leave with my hair wet (because I had been there almost 5 hours), and I did not get to see how blonde my hair truly was, but I could tell while it was wet that it was way more than I was hoping for. When I was able to see my hair fully dried, not only was the color uneven, but some portions of my hair were extremely blonde, and my tips were darker than the middle portions of my hair. The overall experience fell short of the professional standard I had anticipated. I reached out to the salon owner to try and get at least a partial return because the outcome was not at all what I wanted and due to Nicky's unprofessionalism. I was told I had to come in for her to see my hair in person because she could not assess the damage over the phone, regardless of how obviously my hair was not what I wanted and was almost entirely foiled with bleach. While exchanging emails, I noticed another review come up on Yelp with yet another complaint of Nicky talking badly about other clients (which very well could have been me). The review was taken down soon after, however I have attached it below because it reaffirmed how uncomfortable I was returning to this salon if this is common and acceptable behavior. I got an amazing haircut here from Jenna. I had her take off a lot of length but she made me feel very comfortable and I trusted her to do a good job with it- she delivered! I gave her some direction with a few photos and told her the length I wanted, but that I was pretty flexible and to shape and style it as she saw fit. She nailed it and gave me a cut that really suits my face shape. She's also super sweet and I enjoyed talking with her! I also got a shine treatment for an additional $10, and that was definitely worth the money. My hair overall felt much healthier, softer, and shinier afterward from both the treatment and the cut, and still does weeks afterward after washing and styling. They use Kevin Murphy products here, which smell soooo good and give great results. The salon itself was really cute and clean, I got into my appointment right away, and I was offered water and able to tip on my card. I didn't have any issues with customer service and booking online was easy. Just be aware before showing up that parking might be difficult and free spots are limited, but that's to be expected with the location. If you want to park for free just show up early enough to find a spot and walk over, or pay for a spot in the lot across the street. read more

I'm going to break my review into two parts: the salon and Kim, my stylist. The salon itself is beautiful and welcoming. There was music playing in the background that was loud enough to enjoy without being overpowering and annoying. Everything inside was clean and well kept, including the bathroom. A water was provided upon entering, and I was even asked if I preferred bubbly or non-bubbly. The huge front-facing windows provide a ton of natural light, which I think is important when coloring hair, so you can see what it actually looks like. Plus, with the salon being in the heart of PB, it provides for great people watching possibilities. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for a very reasonably priced place to maintain your current look or be inspired with a new one. The only downside to this place is that the parking has the potential to be expensive if you're going to be there a while. You'll more than likely have to park at a meter or a paid lot, since it is in a highly touristy area. Now, onto Kim. She was utterly amazing. I sent her a pic of my current look and a photo for inspo, and told her that I didn't have a set idea of what I wanted, but just a general "I'm looking for something a bit more modern and fun" and she delivered 150%. She did a balayage to brighten up my entire head, along with some face framing pieces, curtain bangs, and a general tidying up of the length, and I could not be more thrilled. She gave me a result that was way better than I had hoped for, and for a very reasonable price. She has a very zen vibe with a good balance of chatting about things and allowing silence instead of needing to fill up every moment with words just to fill space. She did a wonderful job of taking a minimum of input from me about what I was looking for, and designing a look that is absolutely perfect. I will definitely be returning and recommending this salon, and Kim in particular, to my friends. read more

I was looking to get my hair dyed ASAP while visiting some family out in San Diego. I just recently moved up the coast & haven't found a hairdresser out here yet. I looked up hair salons near me and found Evolv almost instantly on Google. Evolv looked promising - there were many photos posted of blonde hair transformations. I have always preferred blonde hair on me and each time I visit a salon, I try to get it as light as possible. I was very specific about what I wanted (pics 1 & 2) and even showed my hairdresser the photos. my hair was already pretty blonde, (just not as bright) since it's been about six months since I last had it colored. I didn't think getting to this color blonde would be an issue. Over our text consultation, she let me know it'd be $325. Usually for a full highlight I pay around $165 + tip at Sola Salon in Mission Valley. I decided to go for it because my hair was in desperate need and this place looked credible. Needless to say, Im pretty disappointed with how my hair turned out. I ended up paying $382.00 for a haircut and color and my roots are ORANGE (photos 3 & 4). My hair doesn't even look that much different. Yeah, the roots were touched up but the color isn't as blonde as i wanted it to be. I was hoping to get my hair a few shades lighter at LEAST. My hair was already blonde before, just with light brown roots. I'm disappointed with my hair and will not be coming back to this salon. My hairdresser was really sweet and I know she was going through a tough time, so I appreciate her showing up. Hopefully the brassiness fades with some purple shampoo because it looks terrible. read more
