I have been to Asher's many times over the past 10 years. I am a mechanical engineer so I know when I am getting ripped-off. The incredible thing with Asher is that he will let you know up front what makes sense to do and what not to do, he will not tell you to do work that is not needed. He is extremely knowledgeable of both imports and domestic cars and trucks. So don't take it personally if he can seem abrasive at times, he is human and he deals with, to put it mildly, "disagreeable" individuals just about every day. However, most of the time he is very pleasant and humorous. Case in point I brought my car in for work (2011 G37) and happened to park it blocking 2 doors. He comes up and asks why the heck did i do that. Smiling, I said "just to aggravate you". He chuckled and I moved my car and that was that. In short, I would much rather have a competent and honest mechanic that can be a bit prickly at times (he is a Sabra) than a very pleasant one who either overcharges you, is incompetent or perhaps both, as good honest mechanics are hard to find. read more

Finding a good auto mechanic is like finding a wife, you have no idea what on earth they are talking about, but you have no choice but to trust them. I drive a lot, enough to have put 353,000 miles on my 1999 Subaru that is well known by shop employees. Like most folks I found Ashers Auto AKA Ushie because I needed an oil change and I was in Brooklyn, before I knew it I was getting advice on what I should or shouldn't fix. I have gone in multiple times and if the job is small enough he doesn't charge. Small enough could be $50 at chain mechanics and other larger shops - but here, it's casual and because of his good reputation the shop can get very crowded. I got my clutch done and it was $200 below what it cost the time before that. Tune up was half the price of previous mechanics and so on. Asher is one of the most obnoxious person you wiil ever find in your life. I came there on August 11, 2020 in the afternoon because my check engine light was on. While talking to him I can feel that he was extremely tense for some reason. He told me to leave my car there and he will look at it in the morning. I responded that I need the car in the evening and I will bring it in the morning. At this point he tells me that I should not bring it because I am not his customer. I tell him that of course I am his customer that I came with my car last year and we were talking about the Steinberg family and my family the Hershkowitz family. At this point he looses his temper and asks me is Shulem your brother and I say yes. He starts screaming at me at the top of his lungs on the street the following words "YOU F**KIN A**HOLE, GET THE F**K OUT OF HERE" he said each curse word multiple times as loud as any lowlife can scream it. I did not feel intimidated by him at all as he is a small petite guy with just a big mouth. However i was surprised, shocked and embarrassed as I never did him anything in my life. I will not forgive him in this world or the next. If you see his true colors you would see a sadistic, narcissistic evil psychopath. I pity his wife and children if god forbid he has any. Do not trust him with any repairs for your car as a person with this kind of behavior cannot be trusted. I just registered at Yelp, but I have been coming to Asher for years. He is great at diagnosing the problem with the car. He also is a good mechanic, notice I said he is a good mechanic, not the mexicans who work for him, they do a so-so job. So its best if Asher repairs your car himself. Unfortunately Asher is on the high side of pricing for repairs, but if you want the repair to be done correctly I guess its worth the price. A quick story, my friend had a problem with his car. Another shop told him to replace transmission, over $1000. He came to Asher for second opinion. It was broken linkage between gas pedal and transmission, less than $100 repair. Correct diagnosis is key, and Asher does this the best. read more

Asher took care of my car personally. Had a check engine light on which my regular mechanic was unable to diagnose. I brought my car to Asher on a recommendation. He was able to connnect a scanner to the vehicle to assess the problem and replace the wiring which led to the light on the dash board. The entire process took a few hours which was reasonable.
