Great kebabs. Some of the best in the area. Some people may like the old school quirky ambiance of the place. Plenty of seating, and usually empty, perhaps because they do a lot of takeout. But you can't go wrong with the kebabs. read more

Just Don't Go--Save Your Money I've given Asia Derbar a fair chance, both with the previous owners and now with the new management. The last owners were rude and grumpy, but at least the food had flavor--though I got sick a few times and even ended up in the ER once. Under the new management, things have only gotten worse. Prices have gone up, portions have shrunk, and the overall experience is disappointing. I ordered food for a friend's party, and they delivered a quarter-filled tray of Qorma while charging me the full price for a "full" tray. The Biryani was a full tray, but it doesn't make up for being overcharged and under-served. Honestly, I've lost hope in Desi restaurants. Sorry, but this place is just not for me. I have a big family, and none of us will be coming back--this wasn't even my party, but it left a lasting impression. Save your money and stick to something reliable like Subway. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Food was old, oily and nasty. I didn't even make it out of the parking lot before I went back to return it. The owner was nasty, saying that he wouldn't refund my money because I opened one of the containers so he was unable to sale it again. That is absolutely disgusting. I wish that I had recorded him saying that. So he really intended on reselling my returned food, even though he had no idea what could have possibly been done to it. Chicken biryani and korma and small bits pf bone in them. When covered in sauce, you'd never know until you bite down. Korma didn't come with any rice, which was a first for us. I also found it to be spicier than korma from other places - which isn't bad but made it so my child didn't want to share with me. Chicken and cheese kebabs were...fine, but small and mostly potato. This was a very odd lunch indeed. The food alone was the main reason for my four stars. I was meeting a friend for a 1:00 lunch and I walked into the restaurant at 12:45. My first reaction was "Oh my God, they aren't even open!" The big dining room was dark, the dining tables were naked, save for the tablecloths, and I didn't see one soul anywhere. No customers and no staff in sight. I walked toward the kitchen and shouted "Hello?" three times, each one louder than before. Finally, someone popped up and reassured me that they were indeed open for lunch. Well, that was good to know.... This was a definite foreshadowing of the service - because there were very long lapses several times - waiting to have our orders taken, and again -waiting for the check, when I had to walk back into the kitchen and ask for it. But now that the unpleasantness over that lackluster (that was my friend's word) service is all said and done, let's focus on the food which was excellent. We each had a naan, a side of rice, and a chicken dish. I went for the Palak Chicken and it was a very good mix of chicken and spinach in a sneaky hot curry ($11.50). My friend grew up in the UK, so Indian food is in her blood and she heartily approved of her Chicken Tikka Masala (also $11.50). The portions were generous, as were the rice and naans. By the way, I really like my Chili Garlic Naan ($3.45) for a big round flecked with green chilies. Our bill was $26 and change and we each took home half of our food. That made lunch an excellent value in both the quality and quantity departments. Bottom line, the food was excellent, and the service definitely has some improvement opportunities. read more

Very delicious, ordered 3 orders of chicken tikka masala (one spicy, they put green Chile peppers on top), 2 orders of garlic naan, 2 orders of tandoori naan, 2 orders of chicken samosas and 2 orders of veggie samosas. I had expected the 3 orders of chicken tikka masala to come with rice, it does at all the other places I've ordered from. Food was good. Chicken was definitely fresh and everything was yummy. $62 for 3 of us to eat and have leftovers. The gentleman was very friendly when I went to pick up. I saw they have a Sunday brunch buffet that I'm excited to try. My favorite Indian place in the area so far. I'll just have to remember to order rice in the future. read more

Asia Darbar is a Indian/Pakistani restaurant that does catering. The restaurant is quite big and the servers are very friendly. There is parking in front of the restaurant. The ordering is a little weird since the servers cannot take it. Instead they have to ask for someone else from the back to take the orders (who I am presuming is the owner), so it can take a while. The food came out relatively quickly though. My friend and I had the chana chaat, kunna gosht, and goat pulao. The food is a bit spicier than traditional Pakistani food, but it was good. I enjoyed the chana chaat but it could be a little less spicy/sour. The goat pulao was mild tasting with pieces of goat (although their was more bone than meat). It was a relief from the other spicy food. The naan was amazing! It was nice and buttery, thin and slightly crispy. The best naan I had so far and my Pakistani friend agreed. There is complimentary salad with onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumbers to cool the heat. My friend also had a ras malai. Although it was small (one per order) it was good. read more

we were this last weekend for the Sunday brunch and food was terrible and cold. Puri's are not real puri's, they are fried flour tortilla's which were very oily. same with the naan which were heated and buttered frozen naans you get at the store-not made fresh on site. both my husban dhave been sick with vomiting since we at there and we alos had ordered take out for home after eating my daughter becsame nauseous and vomited. What is more alarming is that we noticed a dead rat in the parking lot of the restaurant as we left. Will never go back and will not recommend to anyone. read more

The food stayed warm till the end and the server did an excellent job making sure dishes were always full. Pakistani style Biriyani, not an overwhelming amount of spices. just the right balance. love it. their beef nehari and paya is to die for. go to the seasonal sunday brunch buffets. get your monies worth with nehari, paya, aloo ki sabji (potato curry) and chicken karahi. they generally have 2 kinds of bread (fried and naan). so good. top notch food. but slow in service. i hope this place stays a community institution for years to come. read more

While visiting family in Terryville, CT. I was invited to join them for a meal at ASIA DARBAR in Plainville. I had never had Pakastani food and my family was concerned that it would be too spicy or exotic for me. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by the owner. My BIL is from Pakistan so was easily able to explain that I was a newbie but willing to try any food they suggested. I have to say that I think they went out of their way to have me sample a wide range of flavors and spices. I highly recommend the Butter Chicken and the mango smoothie if you're not into seriously spiced food. They were easily within my comfort zone. Some of the other foods stretched my taste buds almost to the limit but in a totally enjoyable way. There was a goat & rice dish, a rice & pea dish, Naan bread and, of course, the mango smoothie. For dessert, I had a sample of a rice pudding, a warm carrot pudding, and a 3rd that I can't name. All were excellent. I can't judge the quality of the food because, again, I had never eaten similar food. Everything tasted wonderful, tho. It's my understanding that the restaurant has recently changed ownership so let me mention the wonderful people I met. The owner checked in with us to make sure everything was ok. It definitely was. The waitress was a young college student who was an absolute delight. She was attentive but not intrusive, friendly and always helpful. It was an all-around wonderful experience. I'll definitely be back to try the weekend brunch on my next visit. My only request would be that they relocate to central New Hampshire so I can eat there more often. My friend and I came here on a rainy Tuesday evening and for a while we were the only ones there until one sole diner came in a little while later. Service was great, as were the menu options. We tried the spicy samosas and they had a nice kick! We followed that with an order of chicken korma, aloo panak (spinach & potatoes) and we split (just as well as it was quite large) an order of vegetable biryani-also with a little kick! While we were not provided with the option of selecting the level of heat-we found the meals to be perfectly seasoned! A plate of red onion, tomato and cucumber was also provided. FALSE ADVERTISING AND HORRIBLE SERVICE! I called to place my pick up order and they rushed me off the phone and hung up without taking my name or number. When we picked up our order and there was no rice with any of our food. When I asked for it she rudely said "why would you think rice comes with your meal?" When I mentioned the photo of chicken tikka with rice on their menu she said "no, there is no photo with chicken tikka with rice. It's an extra item that you pay for." The best restaurant for Pakistani-Indian cuisine in Connecticut! It's a family run enterprise and they do not comprise on the quality of the food. The joint is easy access from the highway and has comfortable seating for couples and large families. The host is very accommodating of your needs and the waiters are clear and polite. I really appreciated that they were honest about what's available on the menu and what changes they can make. I've had food catered from them over the summer and everything was perfect! Let me start by saying I don't normally write restaurant reviews because I'm romantically involved with food and it's usually a conflict of interest. The purpose of this review is to prevent you from making a mistake. I just tried this place for the first time because I read some good reviews and I was missing Taste of India in West Hartford. I called to order takeout; Chicken Korma, Veggie Samosas and their Chili Garlic Naan. Unfortunately the Korma was not ready and they were out of Garlic Naan, so I went with Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Naan. I figured the Chicken Tikka Masala would be a good place to start anyway. I got there a little early but the food was ready in less than 20 minutes. I was a little surprised that there was no rice with the Chicken Tikka Masala, but whatever. I'd just have to use the Naan to soak up all the sauce and remember to ask next time. I opened the chicken first. To be honest I was shocked. It was not what I expected. I'm all for new takes, but this looked wrong. It looked like all of the ingredients had separated around curdled cream. Take a look at the photo (blue-green dish). I put it in a bowl but it didn't get better. As for the veggie samosas, I was a little disappointed that they were so small. I put them in with the chicken for the photo. The Naan looked good. For the first time in a while I was hesitant to actually try the food. The first bite of chicken was crunchy. The food was old. The flavor was okay and the meat was "tender," but the texture was all wrong and I felt gross eating it. I worked through a few more pieces of chicken and then moved on to the Samosas. They were not great. Also old, pastey texture inside a slightly soggy crust. I ate both of them anyway. The Naan was good. Actually I think there are only a couple things that can make Naan bad; it can be too gummy and it can be cold. This was cold so I guess it was closer to okay than good. I realize I shouldn't expect much from takeout Naan but I live like 4 minutes away from this place. I guess I hit a slow night or something. There was no one there. I'm sure it's better when it's busy and the food is fresh but I'm not going to bother finding out. I'd rather drive back to West Hartford. read more

This is a GREAT find in Plainville for Pakistani/Indian cuisine. My husband is vegan and I'm eating gluten/rice/dairy-free for a while, and we were able to find several items that suited us both. The menu is fairly broad and has a lot of authentic dishes (tandoori oven, goat, etc) made from scratch with delicious seasonings. The naan and samosas are amazing! We ordered daal, chicken korma and the okra and all were really delicious. Portion sizes were normal - not huge and not small - and we spent only $30 for the two of us, which is nice. There is also a small market below the restaurant for halal groceries and meat, including a broad range of spices, teas, and rice. Their Goat Biriyani is so special, the aroma itself will bring you back there for sure. Just blindly order chicken bihari kebab/sheekh kebab/aloo tikki as starters, goat Biriyani, chicken makhini and kuna ghosh in curry items + flavorful special wheat nan/normal nan. Try everything...and I must say, great value for the money you spend there. Epitome of good taste ! I mean every single word I write here. The amount of care and time they put on the preparation of each dish is unbelievable. Few of my friends had the opportunity to visit their kitchen and I would like to share just one of the observations which gives a pretty much good idea of the quality of their food. They examine every piece of mutton for fat deposits and remove all of that completely. Even a small piece is not spared. This is the kind of perfection thats achieved here. Coming to the cooking part, most of their dishes are slow cooked. Specially, their signature dish, kuna ghost (goat curry), cooks for over 6 hours in low flame. The right amount of heat for the right time which gives it an excellent texture. Needless to say, most of the meat they serve are tender and cooked to the right amount. You would certainly feel that it is unique and sensational. I feel that way every time I dine here. Should I really have to be explicit about the taste? Trust me, coming from India, I have had easy access to great Indian/Pakistani food back home but I swear this is one the best. They have literally set a new benchmark for great taste. Very rarely would I say to boycott a place and inform people openly to not even provide a business with your money to support them. This place however is one of them. I went here party of a six with a baby on a cold day. We sat down and were immediately moved by ownership to a small cramped table. We kindly asked three times about other tables as the restaurant is huge with many tables. The actual owner stood there and said no it's fine and was extremely rude. I mean my family was dumbfounded and in awe in regards to his awful manner and attitude. I had to stop myself from arguing and told myself why argue and then sit eat and give this horrible human being my money. Very sad i drove 30 mins for halal food to meet a haram attitude. The best Indian food I have ever had. My companion and I love this place. It's tiny, and is also attached to a grocery store. I have only done take out but would like to try sit down. Our favorite dishes are the chicken makni, butter chicken. It is spicy and flavorful and creamy. We also love the chicken behari kebab. Spicy delicious chunks of chicken. This is the absolute best Pakistani restaurant in Hartford area for many years. When I crave for Indian or Pakistani food or biryani, I go here. I think the owners are from Pakistan. To some they appear a bit rude, but I felt it was just because they are brought up in a different culture. I used to go to this place for many years now, even when they were running their business from a much smaller place in a near by location. Food is unbelievably authentic and tasty. If you eat their biryani you will get several complex tastes which you cannot find anywhere. In their bread section, garlic naan is the best. Beef Behari is nice and tender. I like their Kunna Gosht. Beef Nihari is good too. The beef is very tender. I liked the chicken haleem as well. To those who don't know, haleem is not a curry but a soup. That is why it is slightly milder. Haleem is generally cooked by slow cooking the meat for around 16 hours (not sure how it is made here). Even the yogurt condiment (raitha) they serve on the side is very tasty. I loved their tea. It is made almost like how you get it in India. The mango lassi was freshly prepared, you will get pieces of ice cube from the lassi. Overall I feel they prepare everything fresh. Tried lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. The menu is huge has so many options.Ambience is just okay and the staff was pretty slow in taking orders. Asia Darbar is very interesting!!!! At first when I walked in this restaurant with my family my reaction was this is a weird restaurant because I haven't been to a Indian restaurant in my life!!! Since this was my first time trying Indian food I shared with my parents ! We ordered curry, the bread was amazing!!! So we're the dips!!! The Kababs were also good!!!! One thing that I felt was weird was that the service was quite slow and that the owner was serving us and the waiters were actually giving us the food !! Weird! When I went to the girls bathroom I saw that their was teacups which was really weird and they were filled with some liquid !!!! That kind of freaked me out so I kinda ignored it!!! We went there to have lunch and the owner said that he could not serve us because they were busy, and asked us to leave, even though they had several open tables!! It was extremely rude and unprofessional. I have ordered take out from here as well and they made me wait 20 min when I got there to give me my food even though I had ordered an hour in advance of getting there. The food is overrated too. We have visited Asia Darbar a lot of times now, for group dinners, birthday partys and what not and it is good they I write this review now. To start with, nice location, great space, neat decor, large seating, clean and cozy. The appetizers have a wide range to chose from. I have gone back mostly for the Bihari Kebab and the malai tikka. The samosa chat is ok. Their curries are not for my taste although their haryali chicken had been good at times. Carrot Halwa was good too. The staff could be more professional. My wife and I went back again, and the food was just as delicious as before. I'm taking back one star, however, because they didn't seem to understand our order both times. My wife asked for a diet cola with no ice; both times, it came with ice. Both times, we asked for the bread to be served with our appetizer (before the meal). The first time, it came with the meal. The second time, things were a little stranger. I ordered keema naan, and they brought plain naan with the appetizers. When I said something, the waitress went and checked. She reported back that it would be out in a little while. It came with the meal. Okay, so they screwed up, misheard, or whatever, and had to start making it when I brought the mistake to their attention. This happens once in a while. What should definitely not have happened, however, was that they charged us for the unwanted plain naan. If Darbar's servers can't get things straight when the place is almost empty, I shudder to think what would happen if the place were busy. I don't know if we'll be going back. Ordered a chicken tikki masala and chicken korma from yelp/grubhub for takeout online. I take the half hour drive to pick it up and I call them once I get to the parking lot to make sure my food is ready. They tell me they don't have chicken tikki masala so I have to call grubhub to change the order to something else. I call to cancel the order so I can make a seperate order. Fine whatever. I go inside to pickup my order after another 10-15 minutes and come to find out its $10 for just chicken and no rice? Tf is that? Everywhere else comes with rice. I should've been called asap so I was giving the heads up that they didn't have what I ordered. I just gave them the food back. I have to wait 3-5 business days for my refund and just wasted over an hour for 2 orders of chicken with no rice that I didn't even take. read more

I would not consider this a restaurant... Its a cute deli. They probably have one of the best food in the state... when it comes for great for for real cheap!
