Very good food! I highly recommend this place. They have another restaurant in West Haven, and I've enjoyed it, but this was the first time I went here, and it was excellent! It's clean, very popular, it was full. They have traditional Pakistani Punjabi food. The owner is very nice and hardworking, they're known for catering. Service was respectful. Food was all freshly made. The buttered sesame seed naan was fresh and hot and amazing. The chicken bihari kebab is one of my favorite dishes, and they did a great job. The meat was tender and flavorful. Chana masala was good comfort food. The chicken kebabs were made well. Don't miss the pakoras. They're freshly made and crispy and crunchy with potato's, onion, and pomegranate seeds. Yummy! They'll give you some good chutneys. Everything tasted clean and fresh. I order a chicken gyro and when it came it was huge and hard to bite but I was able to get two bites before my date offered her some of hers the restaurant was was accommodating to our request to change the order and cancel the gyro. This review is on my favorite dish. I always get the butter chicken or chicken tikka masala to go, there are plentyof seats if you want to dine in. The butter chicken is decadent, and delicious! There's a lot of butter so I have to usually skim it off. They grill the chicken tikka before putting it in the curry. The curry is delicious with their soft naan. A must try! Enjoy! We will not be returning to Roti Boti Restaurant in Meriden or West Haven--and honestly, if you have kids, you shouldn't either. What is it with Pakistani restaurants thinking customer service doesn't matter? We've been loyal customers for over seven years, visiting nearly every Sunday with our two young kids. The food has always been hit or miss--sometimes stale, and more than once the kababs have been undercooked. We kept going because it's one of the few Pakistani spots in the state. But today crossed a line. Our toddler barely touched his food. Our one-year-old spilled a bit of water and rice--totally normal for a baby learning to eat. We were already cleaning up with napkins and had stepped out to the car when Khalil came outside to confront us. He told us to "get a grip" on our son, called him "spoiled," and said "no one would want him around"--all while our toddler was quietly sitting and watching Ms. Rachel. When I explained the baby was the one eating, Khalil doubled down, insulting our son again. (Yes, this was in Urdu.) We've eaten at hundreds of restaurants across the world with our kids and have never been treated like this. Ironically, Khalil admitted it was the new waitress with the white glasses who had an issue--she didn't like cleaning up a bit of spilled water. If that's the case, maybe invest in cups with lids instead of insulting people's children. We're done. The food isn't worth the disrespect. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone--especially families. read more

There are times where I want to give less than a 1 star review and then times where I want to give more than a 5 star...I want to give Roti Boti a 10 star review because they have earned each and every single last star today!! From the cleanliness of the restaurant, to the warm welcome I received when I walked in, down to the food itself being beyond amazing, we have arrived at what every restaurant should strive to deliver. However for the sake of an extremely long review being turned into a novel here, I will stick to the food. From my last visit, they added a halal Chinese option, which extends their regular menu into two menus and with so many directions that you can go when it comes to the food, you'll be slightly overwhelmed if you do not already know what you would like to eat. Of course I went with the Vegetable Samosas which were crispy. The flour shell better known as a pastry with the savory potatoes within and peas that really made the bite pop in flavor was a beautiful start. The yogurt helped to minimize the light spiciness and really just excites the tastebuds. Let us dance on over to their sweet corn chicken soup. A big bowl of heartiness. Packed with so many flavor profiles, onions, cilantro and PLENTY of shredded chicken (oh so tender) that your eyes will close, as the heat from the soup wraps your soul into a cocoon of ecstacy. My Garlic Naan bread, so soft and fluffy. Buttery and light on the crisp, was only enhanced with the garlic, which truly stood out to shine amongst a group of its peers on this one. So tasty but when I took the Naan and added the beef nehari which was nice and thick, broke apart in my mouth with ease and the sweet gravy with a nice kick of spice took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride that I was not even ready for!! Ordered takeout during Ramadan since some family friends liked this place for Pakistani food. They have an iftar buffet special during Ramadan but I'm not sure what the prices are. I ordered beef Bihari kebabs, chapli kebabs, boneless chicken tikka, chicken sheekh kebabs, garlic naan, samosas, and pakora. No photos since it was Ramadan and no one is about to whip out their phone to take photos when you haven't eaten all day. The chapli kebabs were way too over cooked, eggy? and inedible. The onions in the kebabs were black since it was burnt. The garlic naan wasn't fluffy and the sheekh kebabs were dry. The pakoras were ok but very heavy since the batter is thick and it was made with onions and potatoes. The only part of our meal we liked were the Bihari kebabs and the chicken tikka. The Bihari kebabs were spicy but flavorful. Service is lacking as others have noted. When I went to go pick up I had to give the gentleman my order instead of my name or number. As you can see I ordered quite a bit so good thing I had it all written down or else it looks like I would have been SOL. I would order the chicken tikka and beef Bihari kebabs again but would pass on everything else. Not sure if they're affiliated with the roti boti in NY but I prefer that location to this one. We usually really like roti boti's samosas and drive 25 minutes to go get them. Yesterday I picked up samosas. They were stale. They had been refried and the potato filling was sour and lacy. Very clearly old and probably bad. Gave us all stomachaches even off of a few bites. Divesting from them from now on. So disappointed. read more

To begin, Iove Indian food. Many times have I passed by Roti Boti thinking, "as long as this place has been there, it has to be good". In fact, equally as long have I regreted not having stopped in, for just that reason. Well, no longer does any of that apply. I dropped in on a Saturday afternoon, and finding the place void of all but a few customers, serveral of whom had obviously just finished eating, and were on there way out. Being a buffet, there was little opportunity for commenting on service. At most, I can say that I was promptly seated. Regretably, that's about all I can offer if you're looking for a goog experience. Normally, I would take the time to ask the staff about the dishes I've sampled when I'm unfamiliar with the names or contents. At Roti Boti, there was no need. It mattered not what I ate; all I could taste was curry and black pepper. Weather it was chicken, lamb or beef that I had, it made no difference. My mouth was numb after the first bite. Normally, I prefer spicy to mild; but, flavor is key. In this case, well as I said, the flavors were curry and black pepper. The sixteen dollars I spent would be fair if I could eat any more than I did; however, what I did eat was nearly inedible. Fortunately, there is no shortage of Indian restaurants in the area, some of which I've reviewed previously. My advice is to seek them out rather than eating here. read more

This was my first time ordering here and both my chicken Tikka and Curry were oilyyyyy and inedible! So disappointed! The Tikka was almost curdled looking because the cream and the oil were not mixed properly. I'm genuinely disappointed with my experience at Roti Boti every time I give the small business a chance. Their restaurant is beyond disorganized, the phone line is working 20% of the time, and odds are your order will be either messed up or missing. We genuinely love their food and they are one of the few local Halal places with a halal Chinese menu which is why we always end up back at them. For Roti Boti Restaurants sake, I hope they see and learn from this review, your level of service is so low it's beyond unacceptable and your staff is simply not trained. It was during the restaurant owners' religious festival that we had come here for dinner with a group of friends while coming back from New York. Amazing food with the cook apparently specially brought in from Pakistan for the festivities. Amazing Indian food and Indianized Chinese. All subsequent attempts to get the same quality have failed. Greasy food with the same flavours is what you will get now. The Biriyani and chicken/lamb/beef preparations also have shards of bone in them...so please be careful if you happen to find your self in this restaurant. read more

My family and I have been coming here for years since they opened. I go here once maybe every few months and I always get take-out. Being a Pakistani woman, I always get people turning and looking at me when I walk in, but I have never been treated with unkindness or rudeness. If anything the servers and cashiers are always apologetic about there being delays. I stick to the same things here: kebabs, naan, chana masala, and boneless tandoori chicken because it consistently tastes good. I've never done the buffet or really gotten much else here, and I've always had a good experience. If you're looking specifically for INDIAN food, this is probably not the place for you, as I don't think they're known for their Indian food. First time was a piece of a bolt (about 1/2 inch long) in our shami kabob The second time was a piece of curled wire like a metal kitchen scrubber, in our rice. So gross. This evening I was on my way to New York having not had lunch or dinner I was suddenly hungry and stopped into Roti Boti I spotted on the side of the highway. I ordered the boneless chicken tandoori to go which came with a beautiful salad that I just have a feeling they made especially for me and a lovely dressing which I will enjoy w my lunch tomorrow. These people were so kind to me so very kind to assist a weary traveler and I am a woman in my 60s traveling alone and they really took care of me even giving me a bottle of water as a gift. The chicken was absolutely juicy and delicious although a little bit spicy for my baby mouth! But I got used to it and it was really good. So good in fact. I called the restaurant to say thank you from the road and I look forward to returning for a sit down meal. this was my first time having Pakistani food and yes it is spicier than I am used to but absolutely delicious and I enjoyed every bite. And most of all I appreciate it how nicely I was treated by the gentleman and also by the lovely blonde woman behind the counter who gave me the water and chatted with me while I waited for my food. All in all a great experience. This is a Halal/Chinese restaurant and that also is a first for me! They have two menus.. So I'm stuck in CT starving and anticipated a long and painful ride into the center of New Haven to visit my usual haunt: Tandoor (1226 Chapel Street New Haven, CT) However upon reading the Advocate i came across Roti Boti and decided to give it a try! The prices are the best you will find anywhere (that always leaves a special place in my tiny heart) and the flavors and quality of the food are pretty good. Sometimes a bit oily, but pretty good. My favorite part of the meal: soft, delicious naan for $1 a piece! Service was a bit to be desired. The male waiter ignored me for a full 10 minutes until he found time to come over and take my order. I requested spicy...I got bland bland bland... But I digress. I love Indian food. I can honestly say that I've never had bad Indian food until I went here. Was it terrible? No. So I went back and gave it another try. Same experience. Just not good. I really wish it was since it's so close to where I live. After a lot of waffling [curry waffles, anyone?], I ultimately decided on just three stars. Having some of the leftovers tonight confirmed my primary concern, which is as follows: The Chicken Cholay is nearly impossible to eat. There's nothing wrong with whole bone-in chicken. And there's nothing wrong with lots of tasty sauce on that chicken, which the Chicken Cholay certainly has. Unfortunately, what we were served was a brown curry sauce with a veritable minefield of bone fragments and gristle. It was like oatmeal with a handful of nails thrown in it. Had the bone-in chicken stayed intact or boneless chicken been used, it would have been excellent. But when every bite of a dish comes with the constant fear of a dental emergency, it can only be rendered a culinary failure... in any culture. Everything else was very good, for the record. A spicy yellow lentil dish, Naan served whole (and not cut into wedges like a damn Philistine), crispy vegetable samosas, a complementary vegetable salad to start the meal... There's no ambiance here, but it's a crappy strip mall in Meriden... we knew what we were getting into. Still, they definitely know how to make tasty meals here, and in very large portions. But sometimes one glaring error can bring the house of cards crashing down. I will come back to Roti Boti... after all, it's four minutes drive from my house. But my next visit will require a little more scrutiny over the ingredients. read more

I'm visiting Meriden currently to see family, and I sntered this restaurant last night with my family, and we ordered a few very questionable things from here. First off, I ordered the Chicken Bariyani, where the chicken was so impoverished, I actually spit some of it out. I also ordered the naan bread, which was lacking quite a lot of flavor. Two of the people I went with to this restaurant enjoyed it, but I didn't at all. I also felt somewhat sick the day after, not sure if that's related to me eating here though.
