I wasn't a fan of the dinuguan due to my flavor preference. We did enjoy the bbq sticks. And my man loved the freshly fried chicken skins here. But on our last visit, our food had "friends" or additional protein included. And so unfortunately, we threw away everything we purchased that day. The tough part is the little critters were on our bbq sticks which were pulled out from the display area under the heat lamps. And that was very concerning for me. So sad to say due to this, we won't be going back. I hate to even leave this review but I'll always be honest about all experiences. Good or bad. Honestly we would still be going if that never happened. But now that it has, we will not be.

I was thrilled to find a DIY taho kit (includes sago and arnibal) and grabbed two right away. A tub of Magnolia ube ice cream and banana turons were calling my husband's name, so those came back to the hotel with us too. If we hadn't already eaten, we would've grabbed lunch there--the food smelled so inviting. The cashier was especially lovely--friendly, chatty, and engaging with everyone in line. That kind of warm customer service is refreshing and definitely deserves recognition. We left fully content, happy to revisit a familiar place and score a few fun impulse finds. Fou Lee Market continues to be a comforting, nostalgic stop that never disappoints. Update: The banana turon was really good. Super crunchy exterior with sugar that hardened into a crisp shell instead of turning gooey. Inside was a whole banana, not mushy or overcooked or dry, which gave it great texture. We had an order that was supposed to be delivered on Thanksgiving morning (that's what it said on their newsletter), but it arrived on Friday instead. When we contacted customer service, they gave defensive response that three minutes after we placed the order, the system updated to the "correct" delivery date, even though their newsletter said they don't deliver on that date. The response didn't actually address the lack of clarity about the delivery date. They even once included a slip of paper with someone else's name, phone number, and address. We're done with this place.

I've had two highly disappointing incidents recently that made me decide to never return. First was a safety issue. I reached for fresh mushrooms on what looked like a newly installed metal shelf. The edge was incredibly sharp and sliced my finger, causing it to bleed. I approached a young female supervisor/manager at the front (possibly named Ema) not to complain, but to warn them so other customers wouldn't get hurt. Her only response was an indifferent 'Oh.' No apology, no offer of a band-aid or basic first aid. Basic human decency was completely missing. Second was a billing issue. Last week, I bought a bunch of bananas and was double-charged. I didn't notice the receipt until I got home, and since it was only $5.33, I didn't make a special trip back immediately. When I returned a week later and politely brought it up, a cashier called over that same supervisor (Ema). She bluntly refused to help, saying, 'You waited a week, we can't do anything.' I pointed out the mathematical improbability of two separate bunches of bananas weighing the exact same amount down to the cent ($5.33) to prove it was a double-scan error. Her dismissive reply was 'sometimes that happens.' I let it go because I didn't want to argue over a few dollars ('not a big deal' financially), but her defensive attitude made me feel like she suspected I was trying to scam the store over $5. It's not about the money; it's about the principle, common sense, and how you treat your customers. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

This grocery store is mainly tuned into Asian shoppers and so you get a lot of merchandise that you don't see in just any everyday place. I heard coming here you can get all kinds of different flavors of Kit Kats and indeed I did find a lot of different ones. I purchased a flavor though that I haven't tried before which made it fun. It was a dark chocolate Kit Kat. But what I unexpectedly found was different Pocky flavors also. The sweet tasting pretzel stick I have had plenty of times with chocolate and strawberry flavors but I found one with fruit (mango) chunks that was a part of the flavor. It was good! Perhaps not my favorite but I'm glad I got to try something new! In addition to that there is something similar to Pocky called Pretz. This is a more savory version of Pocky. I found a toasted sugar flavor which I never came across before and that was good too! So it definitely was a hit coming back again. In addition to the grocery store itself at this location there is a connecting bookstore and a food court. So you could definitely spend a considerable amount of time here! I enjoy the bookstore but haven't tried the food court so that will be yet another visit for another time.

The store's far larger than I'd imagined and carries far more stuff. The produce dept. got me right away when I found GREEN lemongrass (almost impossible to find in my county), black garlic, large fresh ginger--and garlic scapes (they call it spring garlic). I was especially hoping to find garlic scapes since I just discovered them and have already found a great stir-fry recipe for them. A also bought some soy sauces along with an XO sauce that are hard to find in regular supermarkets. Yes, I already have stir-fry plans for all of them. There's far more food stuff I could've bought but the question that decided me against it was "Who else in the house will eat it other than me?" The meats pre-sliced for Korean/Japanese dishes tempted me but were pricey. Besides I own a meat slicer. The one thing I didn't find which was my sole disappoint was Shaoxing wine, a Chinese rice win. They carried the cooking version but not the drinking one. Contrast that with shelves filled with Japanese sakes. I prefer Shaoxing for stir-fry dishes and already have some at home so the disappoint wasn't too great. We rarely get to Seattle so it'll be a while until we re-visit the store. The good news is that a new Uwajimaya will open in Tacoma next year. We plan to shop there a lot more often. Definitely a store worth visiting even if you don't cook Asian dishes. they carry all kinds of cooking stuff--including woks, rice makers, and lots of gadgets. Our son's friend even bought travel chopsticks. I told him he'll be required to whip those out at our next Chinese stir-fry dinner. He better like black garlic and garlic scapes.
