You know a restaurant is good if a person is willing to drive 5 hours, from Cleveland, Ohio to Frederick, Maryland. This restaurant made every other sushi restaurant I've been to taste mediocre. Whether is the quality of the ingredients, or the skill of the chef, either way this place is amazing. I wish it were closer, but great food is hard to come by. I typically spend the weekend at the Residence Inn and eat sushi everyday until it's time to drive home. The sushi here tastes amazing and their spicy edamame is to die for, but it really seems like they're understaffed because we waited over an hour for our food and the restaurant was not even busy. We were offered ice cream as an apology for poor service and we initially accepted, but ended up declining it when they told us it would be another 10 minutes, but it ended up being another 20 minutes. We cancelled the remaining sushi that still hadn't arrived after waiting an additional 5 mins including the previous 20 minute and requested a discount, which they agreed to. read more

My wife & I went to Sapporo for date night and we loved it! We didn't have reservations so ended up at the sushi bar. This place gets packed, especially on the weekends, so if you want a table make reservations. The food was excellent. Very fresh & delicious! Even the spicy tuna was freshly chopped to order. We got dumplings and edamame for appetizers and the sushi & sashimi combo for 2. The portions were very generous... even though our appetizers were delicious we should have stuck to one because we ended up taking enough home for our oldest daughter to eat a complete meal. Korean-owned so they have soju as well as sake (). Service was great even though the restaurant filled up in about 30 minutes. We'll definitely be back! read more

I'm by no far means an expert on Sushi, but I know what food I want to stuff in my belly. So, Wasabi Roll for me is a must for me. Seriously sounds spicy but it's really not. There quite a few of the chef special rolls that are good too, and they have tons other of rolls. Not just the standard ones. They have pictures of a lot of the rolls on the menu now. Which for the non-Expert or Newbie that is Amazing. Followed by the Spicy Pork entree. For me spice equals flavor but then I like some heat. It's mildly spicy definitely great for people of average heat tolerance. Honestly when I tried this I knew this would be my Go-to dish here. I debate ordering seconds every time. We had a delicious meal here on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I had made reservations but the restaurant was quiet and was able to give us the choice of seats. There is a small sushi bar . Eli our server was quite pleasant and attentive. The menu is extensive and had good photos. We ordered the appetizer sampler, shumai soup and spicy pork( Korean) which was more than enough for the two of us. Each dish was exquisitely presented. The pork came with a salad of iceberg with ginger dressing and miso soup. Not unusual but nice and fresh. The Shumai soup had an excellent spicy broth with the dumplings and fresh vegetables. The appetizer sampler was amazing with sushi, sashimi, tempura and dumplings. Perfect tempura, not at all greasy and seriously crispy. The pork dish had an excellent level of spicy and was accompanied by nice blanched vegetables. I had an excellent tea made in house with green tea and roasted rice, it had an excellent savory smoky flavor. If I had to complain it might be that everything came all at once but since it came on cool robot thing it was entertaining. We'll definitely be eating here again. read more

3.5 rounded up because they were so friendly. My car was in the shop so after hanging out at a coffee shop for awhile, I eventually got hungry and this was right down the street. I decided to get the Chicken Teriyaki bento box because I was hungry and it has a little bit of everything to try. It was HUGE! I wasn't expecting it to be as much food as it was. To start, the miso soup was amazing. Very flavorful and plenty of tofu. The chicken was tender and the sauce was good without being too overwhelming. The california roll was falling apart and truly very difficult to eat. There was minimal crab inside as well so not my favorite. The veggies were pretty good too. I was the only customer the entire time I was there for lunch. The servers were friendly without hovering too much. I loved the music-80's power ballads were blasting. We ate here because their hours were later than 9pm and 2 other restaurants turned us away since it was last call as we walked in the door. The location isn't bad, the restaurant is spacious bright and clean in appearance. It was 5 of us and we were hungry for sushi... we were seated and placed our orders shortly after. Our waiter seemed a bit off maybe tired... as he brought out one of the dishes he spilled the dish of soy sauce and didn't attempt to clean it up. We ran out of water often and we watched him sit in the back on his cell phone as we waved our glasses in the air for water. It wasn't crowded only one other group of 5 and they were eating when we arrived. Several California rolls, a boston roll which we never received but was charged for it, beef bulgogi, veggie fried rice, spicy calamari, spicy edamame... Our experience here, from start to finish, was delightful. The setting and ambiance - simply beautiful. There were crisp, white tablecloths, and a real Zen atmosphere. The presentation was exquisite. For appetizers, my partner and I ordered the Avocado Bomb, and Garlic Edamame's. Both were scrumptious! Our sushi included the King Dragon Roll, The White Swan Roll and a sweet potato & cream cheese roll. We were then transported to sushi paradise - it was THAT good. My go to sushi spot, Lazy Fish, was closed for some reason today so I found this spot on Yelp. It was close to where I was and had good ratings so I figured I'd check it out. The ambiance here is great. The place is more attractive than Lazy Fish in my opinion and the soft music in the background was really nice. The service was good. The server and sushi chefs were very nice. The food here is average. The sushi deluxe was ok. To be honest, I preferred the salad and miso soup more than the sushi. I found the quality of the fish to be subpar. For such a beautiful place, the quality of the fish didn't match. Some pieces of nigiri were large while others were tiny. I found most of the pieces to be tough to chew as well. Unfortunately, the sake machine was down so I ordered cold sake instead which was fine, even though I was craving hot sake. I'd have to say I'm one and done here most likely as the fish quality just wasn't there. Saw this place in passing a few times recently strolling through DTF and wanted to try it so took my partner here for an intimate dinner. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by some very bubbly staff, super nice and fun to talk to! We didn't have a reservation but we were seated immediately. The vibe was very chill and intimate for sure. The service was excellent, always were checked on if we needed anything extra, etc. We had a few appetizers and they all tasted so good and well presented! The Sashimi was also very very delicious. The Entrees were also very well prepared! I was certainly stuffed by the time I received my Udon Noodles! We managed to save room for Desert and it was the perfect blend of cold and warm. This place is pricey and the sake for two isn't that big. My friends say the other Japanese spot down the street from this one is way better. Very nice atmosphere, great food, good service, amusing little robot. We've paid two recent visits to Sapporo II in downtown Frederick. The first time, early dinner on a Thursday, we had show tickets to the Weinberg, just around the corner. The service was friendly and efficient, but clearly the server was covering the entire room, and it got a little hectic. My wife is a lover of sushi, and was thrilled with her combination of salmon and tuna rolls. We started with a tempura sampler platter, which was very good but too much to finish. Both our entrees also included a nice little miso soup and a decent salad with a little too much sesame dressing. I tried the Korean bi bim bap, which I've always been curious about, and loved it, especially the spicy sauce (on the side). The Mrs. loved her Thai iced tea, and I had a Japanese beer. The downside of going off to a show afterward is that you can't take your leftovers, so we overate a bit. A few weeks later we had to choose a restaurant downtown again, and it was an easy choice. This time it was a Friday about 6, and the place was more full, but they kept up pretty well. We tried two appetizers this time, the shrimp tempura and the gyoza. The server whiffed on the tempura order and brought a shrimp tempura sushi roll instead, very different, but she fixed it pretty quickly. I did the bi bim bap again, very nice, and my lady got a single order of a tuna and shrimp sushi roll kind of thing. Again with the Thai iced tea, lovely, and I got a Sapporo beer. Despite the little glitch, we left happy (and I got to take home leftovers). The space is beautiful and charming, even when it gets busy. I never knew there was anything here, as many times as we've walked around Market and Church streets. It's very modern and open, and there's an impressive sushi bar along one side. There's a serving robot that wheels itself around the dining room from time to time, bringing glasses of water or plates of food to someone's table, and it's fun to watch. But if this is the state of our robot overlords, we'll be okay -- the servers spend a fair amount of time babysitting the robot and re-doing its settings. The human staff is very nice, though. Sapporo II knows what it's doing, and it's a pleasant experience. read more

Called two weeks in advance to ask about omakase service. They confirmed they offer the service and asked that we schedule online. Made reservations for two right away for an anniversary date. They just called, under two hours from our reservation, to let us know they won't be offering omakase this evening but that we could do regular sushi. If you want to have omakase, I would suggest making a reservation in a bigger city. Not interested in trying here again. read more

The robot server is a cool little addition. The day we went they only had one server! I guess a bunch of people called out :( Poor girl. But she did an amazing job for a busy Thursday night. Where shall I start... When the table beside us got up and left before receiving their water, I should have seen that as a sign to follow them out the door and join them for dinner (hopefully they had a good dinner wherever they went). Let's set the stage: a half-filled restaurant with one large party of approximately 10 people. Other than that, it was just a few tables (couples and families) and us. We sat down next to a couple (previously mentioned) and were there for about 5 to 7 minutes before we saw the waiter, but the waiter wasn't approaching us; it was the couple who were getting up to walk out of the restaurant. They left, and now we were sitting there thinking, "Umm, this is not good." The waiter returned to us after pleading with them to stay (not a good look). We ordered, and we could tell something was going wrong, but we didn't know what (would the order be wrong or what?). Drinks came out (soda and water) as normal. We ordered an appetizer, sushi, and an entrée. The entrée sides came out first, followed by the sushi, pretty quickly. I didn't think anything of it. Everything seemed normal until I watched the robot server go to just about every table, delivering food, appetizers, and whatnot. (Very strange--if you're charging a premium, don't use gimmicky tech that barely works. For example, it ran over a woman's purse and looked like it was drunk while navigating the interior.) Anyway, 10...15...20...30 minutes went by, and still nothing--not even the appetizer. Mind you, we had been there for about 45-50 minutes at this point. I was nearing the point of saying, "Hey, please just bring out whatever is next and don't prep the other things." But then it finally emerged--the entrée. As the server placed it in front of me, she continued to touch just about every utensil I was about to put in my mouth, even though it was an empty table. The rice was hard and cold, but the main dish was good (no real complaints there). As I was halfway through the entrée, the appetizer showed up. I thought she had forgotten it--maybe she did, maybe she didn't. But needless to say, I wasn't even hungry for it anymore, as if nothing was wrong. I'm surprised this business still exists, as others have been here and reported similar experiences. We should have stuck with Lazy Fish, but now we know, and hopefully, you do too! read more

I'm giving it 4 stars because we love their food and keep coming back, but the service is more like two stars. Our family is 7- 5 kids and my husband. We typically order two bento boxes- one salmon, one chicken, one or two bowls of ramen, edamame, gyoza, lobster crunch roll, king dragon, Roger's on fire and sashimi. Again... we love the food. Service is typically slow, on really bad nights they have forgotten our order and not apologized or acknowledged, they have also ignored our table on more than one occasion or brought the kids food after everything else. I usually don't have good experiences with a Korean owned sushi restaurants, but this place completely changed my mind. Our table did the Omakase Course A which is $80. Every dish was amazing and we left very full. The host, waiters/waitresses, manager, owner were all amazing. The service here is the best I've had in a long time. They were really funny and explained the dishes when we had questions. They constantly checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. As far as food goes, it was amazing. Every single dish was delicious and a perfect bite. Our table favorite was the toro and special avocado bomb. The quality of the fish were surprisingly good. First impressions. It was almost empty when we walked in, that said the service was acceptable. The grandkids liked the robot waiter. I had Raman, the kids had sushi and my other son and wife had cooked food.(chicken dishes) The food and Raman was good enough to go back. The sushi was also good with only one complaint, they charge by the single piece. That made the cost of dinner 30 to 50 dollars more expensive then comparable restaurants in the area. Instead I got some roll with overcooked white fish and undercooked shrimp - no crab, avocado, or pineapple. I also ordered the fantasy roll, described as shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, avocado, and cucumber. Instead it was a gelatinous chunk of orange slime - no avocado or cucumber. I just wanted to update my review. My husband and I just simply love this place. We typically come in for lunch on Thursdays and the food and service are always consistently excellent. There are things on the menu I would probably not order again after trying them once, but nothing is ever "bad". All food items are perfect temperatures and the sushi is so artfully prepared you almost hate to eat it (almost). We truly enjoy coming here because of the consistency. There are other sushi restaurants nearby to choose from, but for us, no other provides us the equivalent level of consistently delicious food and consistently friendly and attentive service. Sapporo did an absolutely beautiful renovation on this space. The bar is gorgeous. It was a busy Saturday with the nice weather so it was pretty busy but we were able to get a table for our group. The sushi was pretty good, but not any better than that other place that shall not be named downtown. They don't have their liquor license yet and we didn't realize until we asked where the drink menu was. Ok, fine, not every meal needs alcohol. (And I heard they get it on Monday- so that's good news.) The service was not great, which is too bad- our waiter never checked on us during our meal, never refilled our drinks, and had to come back to our table- twice- to ask us what we ordered. This is a small thing but we did find it annoying- on the table they had a trifold with the drink prices- sodas were $3 on the sheet. On our bill they were $3.50. Being charged $14 for four glasses that were half filled with ice with no refills is just lousy (and no one wants to be the person who who makes a scene about it in a busy restaurant- so you don't) I hope this place works out the kinks and sticks around. To start the restaurant has a nice look on the inside and the road outside is quiet for being right off the main drag. The food quality was top notch and they have a great drink menu. We were not able to finish our food and they packaged the leftovers in the back and it's hard to explain the amount of care they put into something like packing leftovers.... Since moving to Frederick we are still in search of a Sushi restaurant that is amazing. This may fit the spot for us; however, it is still a drive to downtown so we may not go as often as we would like. We were at the Urbana Park and decided to go get some sushi. Our standard sushi spot was closed for the day (normal closed day of the week) so I went to yelp to find something. I ended up finding Sapporo and Sapporo II? and quickly placed an order for take out (we had dogs with us and thus knew we wouldnt be able to sit down). Our go to sushi order tends to be a charashi and maybe a couple of rolls. The charashi does come with soup/salad but I was not aware else I may have asked for 2 soups -- we tend not to like the iceberg lettuce salads that are served at sushi restaurants. The bowl was so pretty when we pulled it out of the bag when we got home and I commented that it was on par with some of the other sushi places we have been to while living in baltimore city. I think we could have been just fine with the charashi alone because that plus the app and 1 or 2 rolls was a bit too much food for this gal. The fish was cut well, the charshi had plenty of variety of fish and the seasoned rice underneath was pretty tasty as well. The app I ended up picking was off the sashimi app (since they do not have age tofu nor takoyaki which are my typical go tos) and this was also sliced very well and the dressing may have leaked out a little but was tasty. read more
