Earlier in 2017, one of us was craving Yukgaejang on a cold winter afternoon and the version that they made was surprisingly good: a big bowl of deep-red spicy broth with shredded brisket, wood ear and enoki mushrooms, bean thread noodles and spring onions. This spicy beef soup offered so much comfort, we would order it every time we got takeout alongside one other Korean option like Spicy Rice Cakes, Soondubu Chigae or Japchae. We tried their Japanese offerings too like the Omelette Fried Rice (called Omurice in Japan, this has fried rice wrapped up in a soft omelette and topped off with ketchup). Pretty acceptable even if average. The ramen bowl we ordered yesterday though was very questionable. It was straight out of an instant noodle pack. We can even guess the brand that they used - NongShim Hot and Spicy. Personally we cannot think of a restaurant passing off instant noodles for menu items. Plain sorry. Guess our final rating has to be an average 3 stars overall. If not for the Korean fare, we would not have a reason to return. read more

Got the seafood pancake and the hwe dup bap (sashimi on lettuce and rice) to share between two people ($28 total). Both came with miso soup, and the seafood pancake came with little dishes (banchan), all of which I loved. I wouldn't order the hwe dup bap again -- it didn't come with many other toppings, so it ended up being a brand, even with the gochujang. But the seafood pancake was delicious, especially with the dipping sauce!! Perfectly crispy, not too greasy, bursting with flavor and seafood. As far as Princeton eateries go, this is probably one of the better ones. I'm admittedly biased against these multi-cuisine, kitchen-sink kinds of places because usually it means they don't do any one thing particularly well, and while this one isn't an exception, at least it does it fairly well. Don't get the pho (literally the only dish in their Vietnamese repertoire) as it's pretty bland and flavourless, and several of their Thai dishes aren't great either, but the Asian seafood cioppino is delicious! It's warm and velvety and spicy enough to bring some heat. Even though they advertise Asian food of all kinds, the menu is Chinese and Korean dominated. If you order anything Korean it typically comes with banchan, several little side dishes. It's likely you'll walk out with a raging thirst. Asian Fusion isn't the best by any count but it gets points for ambitious variety and doing it reasonably well. read more

I was craving some Bibimbop and saw they had it on the menu, so figured we'd give it a try. First we ordered some Gyoza and it was pretty good. I got the Bibimbop in the hot stone bowl. Comes out sizzling. It really hit the spot. Wish it had just a tad bit more meat in it though. Also ended up getting the tempura banana desert. Amazing, modern little pan-Asian joint with authentic and delicious food. Fast service, even with the busy lunch rush. Free water and hot tea. A little more expensive then typical lunch joints at $12-17 depending on what you choose, but the taste more than makes up for it. Their menu covers most Asian cuisine, but they seem to do all well, especially Korean: My colleague had the Spicy Asian Noodle Cioppino - tons of seafood and noodles and a red flavorful broth. I selected the Bibimbap in a hot stone bowl - a little more in price than the cold version, but being hot made all the difference. When we arrived, I noticed that the sign dictated that the restaurant was dedicated to quite a variety of Asian cuisines, which in my opinion, isn't a good sign. The restaurant is a little disorganized--there is no one to greet you at the door but a sign telling you to go to the back. Service was friendly, but again, disorganized0--food was coming out at all different times and we had to ask for a few things. Ban chan came out after we ordered, which was another minus, as nothing really stood out as even good. We ordered the korean fried chicken wings in spicy sauce and the deep fried pork. Yum! Wings weren't spicy at all but both were a little sweet. We ordered 2 jajjangmyuns and 3 jambongs. The jajjangmyuhns were a little lackluster, could have had more black bean taste, but good nevertheless. The jambongs were the star here--full of seafood and a strong broth. Came in for lunch based on reviews but disappointed. I would have rated two stars but made it three based on my daughters feedback on her sashimi bento box lunch special. I ordered the kalbi bento and found it to be bland and unmemorable. My son's bugolgi bento was a tad tastier then the kalbi but again mediocre. The sushi that came with our bento boxes were pasty. Extremely disappointed with the Korean Wings! They served Wings that were previously fried, refrigerated and fried again. You could taste and see that the meat was old, shrunken and the meat was dark brown inside. I sent the Wings back. I asked the young inexperienced waiter about the freshness of the wings. I have now been to this restaurant a half a dozen times. The food is very good, especially the Bento boxes or combination dinners. I like the variety you can get with this option. And its very reasonably priced. Tonight I had the General Tso Chicken and Pad Thai combination, that also came with a dumpling, california rolls, and salad. The customer service here is an absolute joke. I'm literally in awe that this happened. My sister ordered a plate and Ended up not liking like what She ordered; she very politely asked to send it back for something else. The waiter instead of saying of course and taking her new order ( which is what every other single restaurant in the entire world will do ) he says "let me go talk to the owner and see what I can do" and he comes back and brings the food back and tells her that he won't give her something else and We would still have to pay for it. his explanation was that " it wasn't our fault that you don't like the food". One of the best deals you can get is the 11.99 two halves meal, where you can choose two dishes + you get appetizers. It's a great deal for those who love variety. I ended up getting the General Tso's Chicken and drunken noodles (both which were delicious). My friend got bulgogi (so good as usual!) and japchae. The fried eggroll was not as good, so I'd sugest getting the steamed dumplings. Staff is really friendly! If you are a student, you get 10%. If you tweet about them, you get a free drink! I go to Princeton U and whenever we're craving Korean food we'll take the train to Princeton Junction just for Asian Bistro. It's definitely the best and most affordable Korean food in the Princeton area. They give a few side dishes when you order Korean dishes, which is nice. The food: +Two-halves special is a good bargain. Choose two dishes and it comes with soup and rice. I usually get the bulgogi and drunk noodles - they are consistently good. +I love their soondooboo (tofu stew), the level of spiciness is perfect for me (I generally struggle with spiciness), and I know others enjoy the seafood noodle soup. However, my Korean friends always ask them to make the soondooboo and seafood noodle soup spicier. (Update: Last time I went, the soondooboo was really watery and light-colored, not red like it's supposed to be. Could be a fluke, or could be a new chef who can't make soondooboo.) +I've also tried the Korean fried chicken, which isn't as good as Bonchon's, but still pretty good! It's more sweet/tangy than spicy though. +Their dragon roll is pretty good, and cheap!! It comes with 10 huge pieces, if I remember correctly. I also love that they always have yelp/foursquare promotions! Went here for a late dinner. There are 2 seating options. You can sit in the first room that is self service which means you order as you go from the front, or you can sit in the back room where there is waiter service. We sat for waiter service. The place overall wasn't crowded for a Tuesday night around 8:30pm so we were seated right away. Paul was our server and he was very attentive, really friendly, and went out of his way to make sure my friend and I were okay. Looking at the menu they definitely have a variety of asian foods which can either be a hit or miss so I was skeptical. Shared the Hwe Dup Bap and spider roll with my friend. Food came out very fast which was surprising but that did not hinder the quality. Both dishes were average. The flavors were all there. You need to add the red pepper paste/spicy sauce to the Hwe Dup Bap and mix. I expected to see the soft shell crab tentacles in part of the roll, however there was none. Meh, no :/ - My friend ordered the sunset roll. The rice was cold and hard, the kind that you can tell isn't fresh. - I was really craving sundubu (korean soft tofu stew), looking for something that would be a close substitute for the ones I've had in various places in LA. It was $10, which is highly over priced for the bland, watery concoction that I received. It didn't even come with an egg (immediate sign that its not even close to authentic and I shouldn't have ordered it). + However, the server was really nice and told the chef to put an egg for us for free. + It was enough to make me full I guess. + Student discount with an ID, yay + Sort of like a take out place. You just order at the front, they have water on the side for you to get when you want, you can sit and chat there for however long without waiters ushering you with the bill. + Clean environment The sad lack of asian food in the Princeton area led me to Asian Bistro. Clearly, sundubu and sushi aren't its forte... try something else. Probably a stir fry dish will be better. 2/5 stars for food. Oh wow, we had takeout from here and it was very solid. The seafood scallion pancake was flavorful and stuffed with decently tender roasted squid, shrimp, and scallions, and the steamed dumplings were tasty with generous filling portions and a thin shell. The Sunset roll came with a good balance of spicy tuna, salmon, and rice, and the the rainbow roll was well-made, as well. For a fusion restaurant that covers every Asian cuisine, this place does a good job...and at a very reasonable price. Will be back to try the bibimbap dishes. read more

The Korean food here is really bland, mediocre and overpriced. I eat a lot of Korean food constantly and this did not have any of the kick or depth that I expect from it, it was just very bland and plain. I had kimchi fried rice and remember it tasting like there was hardly any kind of seasoning in it whatsoever. Asian Bistro opened up down the street from our house in an odd location next to the Princeton Junction train station a few months back. Initially, the restaurant's name and the pan-Asian claims elicited solemn oaths that we would never eat there, as well as jokes about it possibly being a front for some kind of illicit activities. But a recent glance at the surprisingly positive reviews on Yelp motivated us to give Asian Bistro a try. It turned out to be a great place! We opted for two Korean dishes -- hwe dup bap (sashimi mixed rice) and naeng myun (cold noodles) -- and both were tasty. The best dish was the hwe dup bap, which had three kinds of fish that all tasted very fresh. The naeng myun's broth was yummy and noodles were perfectly cooked. The restaurant was nicely decorated and extremely clean. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that a few panchan (side dishes) would've been nice. 4.5 stars if you grade on the curve set by local Korean and sushi places in Princeton.
