This place offers such a variety of cuisines, its great for if you want a little bit of everything or when the group can't decide on one! They had Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Thai from what I remember and there were plenty of options for each. We got 2 sushi rolls, the shrimp tempura roll and the spider roll, and both were really good! I got the black bean noodles, which came in the largest portion size imaginable. The noodles were enough for me to have for 3 separate meals! They were well cooked and the lady was so sweet, she gave me more pickled radish to take home. My friend got the pick 2 combo and chose pad Thai and bulgolgi. The workers here were so nice and sweet! We didn't know when we got there that we had to walk up to the counter to order and someone came to check up on us. After you order and pay at the counter, they give you a buzzer that goes off when your food is ready. They clear the plates/clean the tables for you after you finish so no need to return the plates back to the counter! Water is also self serve and they have a station near the ordering counter. I was happy to visit a new place for lunch in the Princeton Junction area with my co-workers after wearing out the usual suspects in the Asian cuisine marketplace. For the moment, this region remains an outlier for the Asian community, which has its core to the north in Middlesex County, and to the south much closer to Philadelphia. If not for Princeton University's population, we would have even fewer alternatives. Walking in, the first impression is of a smallish floor plan with black lightweight tables and chairs, compact service area toward the rear, and an imposing support structure in the middle of the floor that takes up a lot of space. Apparently, there is also an upstairs and outdoor seating in good weather. The functionality is somewhat challenging. It is not eased by the business model. It is basically cafeteria style. Meals are ordered at the back service area where the kitchen and register are. Payment is made upon ordering, after which you can go to your table to wait to be buzzed when your food is ready. It comes out on trays and the customer returns to the service area to pick it up and goes back again to the table. Efficient for the kitchen and register person, but not so much at a busy lunch where diners and take outers create a bit of a jam. Not a big deal, but it creates a little extra noise and confusion. Word is that the Korean menu is best of all offerings, and as that is the least available alternative in the area, we targeted it for lunch. We had the Bibimbap, Soft Tofu Stew, and Fried Rice Omelet. Each came with a small cup of Miso Soup. My friends were quite satisfied with their dishes, but although I tasted a spoonful of both, it was not enough to draw any conclusions. I can only report that both were pleased and wanted to return because they were impressed with the quality and taste. My Fried Rice Omelet was somewhat ill defined in the menu; stating that the Rice and Veggies were "wrapped" in the egg omelet. I would describe it as a mountain of fried rice and veggies with the omelet thrown over the top of the mount like a blanket. The egg was not cooked with the stuffing, but placed on afterward, making it impossible for the three primary ingredients to get to know each other in the kitchen. I did not mind doing the cutting and mixing, but it would have been much better had the marriage happened before being put to bed. Also, I could be wrong, but the red webbing drawn on top of the omelet tasted like ketchup when I stuck my finger in it and put it on my tongue to satisfy my curiosity. Really? Ketchup? I added a long squirt of Sriracha to help give the spice quotient a lift. It did the trick, and thereafter I enjoyed the dish. They also have Joe's Tea in the fridge, which I selected with the free drink with lunch Yelp coupon. It was fine and brewed right in Upper Montclair, NJ. I will definitely return to Asian Bistro as it is a nice addition to the otherwise fairly meager choices for Asian kitchens. It will join the lunch list of decent places to eat here in P'ton Junction, aka West Windsor. As I work through the menu the ranking could certainly improve. 02/11/2014 Return Visit - Rather than enjoying it more with some familiarity, I am actually enjoying it less. I have now eaten/tasted/sampled 6 lunch meals, and taken the pulse of my lunch mates to have their perspective. It seems that first impressions are being maintained. The Korean offerings are decent, but the rest of the menu is several grades below. For example: ~ The Udon Soup didn't have much flavor, the noodles were al dente (to be kind). ~ Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura also had little taste beyond the outer shell although it looked good. Even applying hot sauce failed to revive it. ~ The Drunken Noodles looked exactly like what can be found in a Thai restaurant, but not the taste and complexity. The dish was bland, the onions hard. The shop lacked Chili Flakes and Powder to apply to the serving to bring up the flavor. ~ The Egg Roll was inedible. ~ The Dumplings were cold. All three of us left disappointed that this was the best Asian Bistro could do. What is obvious is that there appears to be a trend of calling the attempt to draw customers by naming a restaurant with a term like, "Bistro," or "Fusion," with only lip service to a real fusion kitchen that knows how to prepare the dishes of other nations. This place is owned/operated by Koreans. They do a respectable job with their ethnic cuisine. Everything else is a bit of a masquerade. The other countries' food offerings look authentic, but the taste and concept are too often missing. This suggests that the chef may have the technique for making something look right, but not the understanding of how it should be prepared for the palate to be satisfied. I think this place was decent and clean . Thai food lacked in flavor but it was fine. The bulgogi also didn't have as much flavor as I hoped . I got the tuna tatake salad - which was good but such a small portion for a high price . Also got the general tso chicken to go and it more batter than chicken ... Came here with my cousin's wife when I first got off the train in Princeton. I was starving and begged her to take me to the nearest deli, restaurant, or even field with wild berries for me to graze. Luckily, she pointed me in the direction of this place, which is literally a few steps away from the Princeton Junction station. I want to preface this by saying that the food itself was nothing stellar, but definitely quite tasty. They didn't go above and beyond, they honored the check-in offer for a free beverage and were extremely friendly. You order up at the counter, sit down and in five minutes your $12.99 lunch special will be ready for you up front. Everything is served on trays, cafeteria-style, which I thought was cute. I had chicken with broccoli, some shrimp fried rice, we split veggie dumplings and my cousin's wife ordered shrimp pad thai, miso soup. I like that they seem to dance around the map of Asian cuisines- Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean- and again, not the best I've ever had, but so much food for the price. There's Chinese if you have people that aren't adventurous, there's sushi, which is fresh and well made as well as cooked Japanese dishes such as Tempura, but my all time favorite is Jajangmyeon : Korean Black Bean Sauce Noodles. The last time I ordered this dish was very disappointing. It was all noodles and onions. I got two pieces of shrimp. And three out of three mussel shells were empty, lucky me! It's great because they do student discounts, but they're super strict about you having the student ID in person - they won't take your word for it. Even with the discount, the price is kind of high for the quality of food you are getting. People usually like the variety in the menu but I always think quality is compromised with such an extensive menu. (The location is kind of hidden, but people seem to know about this place. I am vegetarian. The first time I ordered from this place my meal was supposed be tofu and vegetables but they added seafood. I called, they apologized, remade the order but I still had to drive the 20 minutes there and 20 minutes back home. The second time I ordered, I specified that I wanted no meat, but they don't consider seafood meat, so once again I called, they apologized, they remade the order and assured me the manager was going to contact me to give me a refund. I had to drive the 20 minutes there and the 20 minutes back, and I am still waiting to hear from the manager. The third, and last time, I ordered from this place I specified no meat, no fish, no seafood. They finally got it right on the first go, however this time my container was only filled with half the amount that I am supposed to get and they forgot to make side order. I called, they apologized and they told me the manager will get back to me. We'l see. Food is good. Customer service is; well; polite but not at all efficient. It was not that great, there was a decent amount of sashimi but the lettuce was not the usual kind that they give you at a Korean restaurant. Like other reviewers, I've driven past here & taken a pass thinking the mix of Asian cuisines would be a mediocre disaster, but here it's executed well in a seemingly small outside, big inside with warmth venue. I "tested" their Japanese with my traditional favorite, Unagi Don (eel over rice) & was rewarded with a good helping complimented by a surprise of egg & crab sashimi with it artfully placed in the bowl. She had seaweed salad & Japchae, cellophane noodles are easy to overcook, but a crisp ungreasy delivery with thin beef slices makes a good dish to share. They serve a mix of all types of Asian food (Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean), but their Korean food choices are by far the most extensive and best. It's a little more than I would usually like to spend of bibimbap or rice cakes but it's the best in the area without going further North to Edison or Metuchen. I suggest the bibimbap (just get vegetarian you definitely don't get $1 worth of pork in the meat version). The sampler is a good deal especially for friends that can't decide what to get from the extensive menu and are unfamiliar with Korean food. My favorites for the winter are always the soft tofu stew or beef with rice cake soup (delicious broth). In general though, if you get a Korean specialty it'll be decent. Commuting out of Princeton Junction Station, I always wanted to try Asian Bistro. Was different on the inside than I expected. Parking is difficult--lot is strangely organized and very tight. Seating is restaurant is same way. They have self-serve section in front and table service in side and rear. This is a clever idea. The table service areas have too many tables for the area. The wait staff has a difficult time negotiating tables. Although the restaurant claims to be fusion and have Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese, it is mostly typical Chinese and Sushi--only one Vietnamese noodle soup dish. I found the menu very confusing. Food was good. They provide complimentary relishes. Service was also good. My Son had the 1/2 and 1/2 combination platter. I had gyoza and a tuna salad dish (very good). My wife had drunken noodle. We plan to go back. read more

There is definitely a large variety of food but the quality is not that great. It's a good place to get a quick bite after work since it's literally in the parking lot of the Princeton Junction station of NJ Transit but skip it if you're looking for a place to dine in with family or friends. I ordered the Korean short ribs while my mother ordered clams in black bean sauce. Both dishes did not take too long to be completed which is a good sign for the hungry but a sign of caution for those looking for good food. The short ribs came a few pieces of broccoli scattered over it and a side of rice. The flavor was there but I found the meat to be extremely chewy. In addition, there was a piece of tin foil stuck on one of the pieces. The clams were sandy and very salty with many of them still being closed up. For me, there was an inconsistency between the quality of food and the price so this is why I am only going three stars. I liked the food here a lot. Normally that alone would give it a 4 star rating. I wasn't a big fan of seating myself, obtaining a menu, ordering at the counter and picking up my order when my pager flashed and vibrated. We had kimchi tofu/pork stew and salted spicy shrimp with a side of Asian broccoli and an appetizer of beef pan-fried gyoza. With 2 waters, it can to $52 which I thought was expensive for self service. Pan-fried gyoza was exceptional with nice light skin and fresh filling. Dipping sauce was ordinary and i wished I had asked for chili paste to go with it. Broccoli was perfectly prepared and delicious. Kimchi stew tasted mostly like kimchi. Not my favorite but nicely done for what it was. Shrimp was like eating a large plate of salty fried calamari. I liked it a lot. read more

Finally the pad Thai was great , it was the best dishes our of all of them. I usually don't risk it with Asian fusion places like this but this place has some decent dishes and some terrible ones so be careful. Still solid, if you know what to order. Their bibimbap is my favorite, although as other reviewers have mentioned, the rice in my most recent trip was not crispy (though I honestly didn't mind because I'm not a huge fan of crispy rice). The meat is also a bit skimpy, but that's also a non-factor for me because they somehow make all the other ingredients super addictive and savory. It's comes with a perfectly runny fried egg on top, that mixes so well with the rest of the dish. And the rice is amazingly seasoned (with sesame oil I believe) so that's it's addicting even on its own. The shiitake mushrooms add this overwhelming umami flavor to the dish as well. It's so satisfying. I know I mention this in every review but I keep forgetting and ordering the dumplings, only to be disappointed. They're definitely more Korean mandoo style dumplings than Chinese or Japanese, with a decently thick skin and a chive and (I think?) beef filling, so that it tastes different than your classic pork cabbage dumpling. Still not a fan. Their chicken teriyaki was embarrassingly bad, just a few pieces of chicken with teriyaki sauce drizzled over it. The chicken was dry and unappetizing. The kalbi tasted good but was overpriced and frankly not worth it. The cuts were super thin and it was a little overcooked since the cuts were so thin. Their kimchi pancake was good, though I never get kimchi pancake so I can't really tell how it compares. Beware it's a massive size though. The sushi is extremely underwhelming, the rice was a bit dry/brittle and the fish on top did not seem fresh. I would not recommend it. Service at the sit down restaurant is great and super accommodating. Also like that they gave us Korean side dishes to share, which were all quite good (especially this zucchini dish). read more

Earlier in 2017, one of us was craving Yukgaejang on a cold winter afternoon and the version that they made was surprisingly good: a big bowl of deep-red spicy broth with shredded brisket, wood ear and enoki mushrooms, bean thread noodles and spring onions. This spicy beef soup offered so much comfort, we would order it every time we got takeout alongside one other Korean option like Spicy Rice Cakes, Soondubu Chigae or Japchae. We tried their Japanese offerings too like the Omelette Fried Rice (called Omurice in Japan, this has fried rice wrapped up in a soft omelette and topped off with ketchup). Pretty acceptable even if average. The ramen bowl we ordered yesterday though was very questionable. It was straight out of an instant noodle pack. We can even guess the brand that they used - NongShim Hot and Spicy. Personally we cannot think of a restaurant passing off instant noodles for menu items. Plain sorry. Guess our final rating has to be an average 3 stars overall. If not for the Korean fare, we would not have a reason to return. read more
