I'm sorry to give this restaurant a low score because the staff were so friendly, chatting and bringing out a complimentary appetizer*, but the food just wasn't good. The summer rolls were loaded with lettuce and showed no signs of shrimp. My friend's pad thai tasted funny and had the pink tinge of ketchup. My tofu green curry was loaded with thick chunks of undercooked vegetables, and I couldn't taste any seasonings in it--no fish or soy sauce, no hot pepper, or any of the other flavors I usually associate with green curry, just coconut milk. First time going here. I say them at the greater taste of Waterville and had some yummy ice cream rolls. I ordered takeout because I was in need of some sushi. There is no minimum on takeout so I could've just ordered one set of sushi for six but everything looked so good I got more. Both people i spoke to were super friendly and genuinely sounded like they love their job. The service was excellent and my food was ready with 15 minutes. The inside was wonderful and they had of bunch of Asian snacks so I ended up buying some buns that I've always wanted to try. I definitely want to go to eat in next time. The food was excellent. The appetizers and salads are phenomenal, however the meals are lacking. There's flavor but there's no consistency. Also, the description doesn't always match what you get. This has to be the best Asian restaurant in the State! They use fresh ingredients and don't overcook their dishes. They also don't soak their food in grease and sauces. I stopped in here at random while staying in Waterville. The place was packed at 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon. I knew right away that was a good sign. I made a togo order of ginger chicken from the lunch menu and was completely surprised. For just 8.50 I got not only a plentiful order of ginger chicken with veges, but also side soup, salad, two egg rolls and two crab rangoon. Everything tasted very well-prepared, and my chicken wasn't swimming in overpowering ginger sauce and onions, like it would have been at so many other places. It was almost too much food--but I'm certainly not complaining. If you like Thai-style food, you're sure to be delighted with this restaurant. Never knew this place existed till a few days ago when a co-worker said Asia Cafe has better food than Pad Thai Too. Interesting mix of Thai, Chinese, Korean, sushi and other Oriental cuisine. One owner is Thai, the other from Laos. Small and quaint, clean and popular for take-out, family run, locals know a good thing, they crank out the food here. Tum Yum soup is not classic but very tasty with rice noodles. Vietnamese advertised summer rolls are just like Hanoi and among my favorite vegetarian food from Vietnam, here they are clunkier and bigger but fresh and tasty. Larb (minced spicy chicken salad) and Yum Beef salad is very good also. If you like spicy you have to tell them you want it very hot, everything is so mild here even 4-5 star, but no complaints, everything was very flavorful. Reasonable delicious food, friendly service, fresh ingredients, large portions, what's not to like. I'll be back for a change from Pad Thai Too and Ming Lee's when in Waterville area. read more

Okay, so I've been to the Asian Cafe twice now. And recently on Sunday afternoon in a room of happy diners. As the name of this place suggests they have a wide selection of Asian food. You know like Thai and regular old Chinese stuff and a lot more. And did I mention they have Dr. Pepper! No MSG is what they say and all the food I've had is just yummy. The food I saw other people eating looked just as grooven too. Daniel is the owner and if your in there with someone he knows, he will stop by your table and be charming. I have never had a bad meal here! The owners are friendly, competent, and excellent at what they do. I often dine alone and they are always welcoming. I order the luncheon combination because it is the perfect size. The meal begins with a vegetable soup, the salad is some of the freshest I've had with the carrots on top. Crab rangoons and spring rolls accompany a delicious sweet and sour sauce and the teriyaki and orange chicken are scrumptious served over rice with fresh vegetables. My friend and I came here for the first time. They state clearly WE DONT USE MSG. Music to my ears! Everything was wonderful from the Vegetable Tempura we ordered as an appetizer, to our meals. I was pleasantly surprised that they offer you a choice of white OR brown rice at no extra charge. Most other restaurants will charge up to $2 more for Brown rice. The portions were very generous and everything tasted so fresh. The owner was balancing both answering phone orders, cashing out to-go orders yet still was extremely attentive to refilling our water goblets and hot tea. Always asking if we needed anything else. My favorite!!!! I love this place. It's just a small place situated in an odd place but the food is great. Very friendly staff. When I call for takeout it's never more than 15 minutes.
