I had been here once before and the food was so good I had to come back. By the time I got to my hotel, I was running late for my reservation and got a call from The Appalachian checking if I was going to make my reservation. I let them know that I had just arrived at my hotel, traffic on I-81 held me up and I was going to order an Uber as soon as I was off the phone. Coming from DC, I expected an Uber would be at the hotel door steps within a few minutes, I was wrong. I was then crushed by the realization that I was wrong, I wasn't gonna make my reservation. I knew that on a week night The Appalachian's kitchen closed at 9. Ride.I called them back to let them know of the situation and expressed my desire to have their Wood Fired Lamb. The Gentleman that answered the phone simply responded "it's going on the grill now, we will see you when you get here. F-ing amazing, turned my stressful and painful day completely around. Uber'ed over, walked into an empty restaurant on a weekday where I would guess dinner customers might have been light and they held the staff for little old me. The Appalachian had just moved to the top of my list for I mean best restaurant I've ever been to in my life. Unfortunately, for them, my favorite restaurant of all time in the United States shut down when I was in my early 20's so they'll never get a chance to compete.. But they just bumped Alligator Soul in Savannah Georgia to number two still in existence in these great United States. The Appalachian is a must dine at least once in your life, top tear resistant. First off, the restaurant is truly stunning! Service was excellent too. We started with the Fried Chicken Skins. My friend had heard good things for a friend, but we weren't particularly impressed. I had the Hanger Steak as my entree, and it was delicious. I especially loved the potato dumplings! My friend had the Kansas City Strip, cooked medium rare, with broccolini. Initially, the steak was overcooked, but the staff quickly cooked another steak and made it right. Overall a really good experience! Downtown Sevierville has really evolved, and we enjoyed walking around and exploring after dinner.

The rice is probably not as good as you get at a sit-down hibachi place, but it was still good. And you get a sizeable portion of shrimp sauce, which is also delicious! We arrived shortly after they opened and had a quiet and enjoyable meal which started with a salad for me and soup for my spouse. We choose the hibachi lunch meal of chicken and shrimp with fried rice for myself and steak and shrimp for my husband. Everything was very well done. They also cooked sweet carrots which we ended up bringing home for our dogs. If there is a particular vegetable you don't like - for example broccoli you can have that removed. Next time I will ask that another veggie be substituted for the broccoli. The only downside is the don't serve beer at this location which was a bummer for my spouse. I ordered the hamachi kama and was told it would take about 20 minutes to bake, which I was completely fine with. But after sitting there for almost TWO HOURS total, my husband and son went to follow up, only to be told that my order had been completely canceled. The reasoning? That they "weren't going to comp something and let you walk out with free food." That response was honestly shocking. I never asked for anything extra--just the meal I ordered, even if it had to be to-go at that point. Instead, I left without eating at all. The lack of communication, the excessive wait, and the way the situation was handled at the end completely ruined what was supposed to be a celebratory night. Really disappointing experience. We didn't even want to order the desserts we planned on ordering because at that point, they didn't deserve another dollar. The environment would've been enjoyable if we weren't focused on food missing and the lack of customer service.
