Hong Kong was a staple in our home weekly from 1997- 2021, and often with several friends, need I say more? Well I will. On the occasion when I picked up drive by Shrimp Toast ;-D (road trip) I would see the owner filling and wrapping his dumplings, 100s of them. Always fresh, steamed or fried. I can recommend just about every dish from the menu! I have moved away and have tried 15+ Chinese restaurants and take-outs, nothing compares to Hong Kong. Thank you for walking our neighborhood, dropping off the menu, meeting you, and opening in the Caldwell's so many years ago! I miss your ribs, Lomeins, Szechuan string beans, sesame sauce, egg and spring rolls, General T's, etc....the special hot mustard and the happy faces of friends enjoying with us! Then I get a call on my cell phone saying they have NO WONTONS for my Quart of Wonton Soup!!!!! How do you run out of this staple at a Chinese Restaurant! Wow! Wow! Wow! I will never order from this place again, and the reason isn't the food because on a scale from 1-10 I give it a 8. The reason I will never order from here again is because of the delivery driver. I asked what the combo include and was told "pork egg roll" and "fried rice" - to which I replied, "I don't eat pork, just give me the lo mein". In addition to that I ordered to more things. Out of all of the Chinese restaurants in the Caldwell/West Caldwell area, Hong Kong Kitchen is the most middle of the pack out of all. If it were to be compared to an NFL head coach it would be Jeff Fisher (Mr. 7-9). A man who will always find employment but is never your first option. However, he became a star of an HBO television series for a season. Perhaps that is on the horizon for Hong Kong Kitchen as well. read more

If I could, I would give zero stars but you have to give at least a star. My issue isn't with the food but with the customer service. After picking our food up and getting home, we e realized they got our order wrong. We called and explained the situation to them and their response... we are too busy come pick up your new order. They refused to deliver our food because we aren't close to them and they are "too busy" when they were the ones who made the mistake. There food is usually good, but I am always skeptical eating from Chinese restaurants. This was the only place that my husband would order from because they are usually decent. However I ordered shrimp with vegetables and there was a hair literally embedded and partly sticking out of one of the shrimps. I was so upset and disgusted!! Not only did I waste money, but I was starving. This isn't the first time either. last time there was a fly or small Beatle inside the bag of crab rangoons. I let that one time slide but the hair in the shrimp was the final straw. I wanted to call them and make them aware but what is the point ? they will just deny it. I should have taken a picture but wasn't thinking at the time. I was too busy throwing it in the trash as I partly Gagged ....yuck !!! Hey- it's American Chinese delivery and take out- don't expect Asian delicacies and iron chef quality! That being said, very decent, best take out I've had in the area. Not too greasy, chicken isn't stringy or too fatty. Pretty inexpensive, typically fast delivery (except the last time, but I'll let that slide). Tip/ warning: order over the phone even though there is an order online option! I'm so antisocial I don't like to go out to eat let alone get on the phone to place an order, but last time they got the order wrong and a woman there told me vehemently (after sending over free food, very nice, thank you!) that just to be safe, ordering over the phone will help them get orders more correct than those placed online. I ordered General Tsos Chicken; honestly, I did not see any chicken in the dish at all! I received a plastic container with rice (which was good), two pieces of broccoli and several flat strips of what appeared to be fried corn starch drenched in sauce. Food is great here compared to other surrounding Chinese restaurants. I love their soup, not overly salty - the broth is so delicious. Always courteous on the phone and quick service, unless it's one of their busy nights but still it beats out other places on delivery - instead of 20 minutes on slow days, about 1/2 hour or so on busy night. read more

I had ordered food to be delivered at 6:00pm. I was told my food would be delivered in 45 mins making it 6:45. However, by 7:00 the food had not been delivered. Over the next 25 mins I called twice to see when the food would arrive and I was continually told another 10 mins. By 7:30 it was now an hour and half after I ordered the food and 45 mins past when they said it would originally arrive. I then got into my car and drove to the restaurant where I was not accommodated at all as a paying customer. They took no responsibility for the fact that the food had not been delivered on time. They just kept saying 10 mins. Finally I waited in the restaurant until I received a call from my girlfriend that the food had arrived. It wasn't until 7:55 ( an hour and 55 mins from the time I ordered the food) that the food was delivered. I was not given any compensation or sufficient explanation or apology. They were rude and inconsiderate and I am never ordering food from them again. read more
