Asian Star Restaurant, a name that implies only "one star." Asian Star has three restaurants operating in Oklahoma: Wagoner, Pryor, and Tulsa. The one Wagoner has been a favorite of mine for several years. I was hoping the Tulsa restaurant would be as good. It was not. It was a disappointment. The restaurant is worn, the service is average, and the soy sauce bottles on the table had not been wiped clean or refilled since Mao Zedong was in power. Luckily, searching the other tables, I was able to find a fairly new sriracha bottle that didn't have sriracha boogers growing on the nozzle. The food was acceptable but, overall the dining experience and the food; overrated in some reviews. No reason to come back. A guide to Spike's inconsistently applied, subjective rating system. 1-Star "this place shouldn't even be in business." 2-Stars "I just wish I hadn't gone there." 3-Stars "Ok, but I won't be back." 4-Stars "I will be back." And 5-Stars "an establishment nominated for Spike's Favorite list"

    Mongolian Beef w/ fried rice

So I tried this restaurant for the first time through delivery. Overall largely impressed. I had the steamed dumplings, Mongolian beef with fried rice, and wonton soup. Everything arrived hot or at least warm. So I'm pleased with that. I'll get the cons out of the way first. The Wonton soup had a very strong taste. It wasn't necessarily bad, just really different than I'm used to and not necessarily to my personal liking. I've had a lot of Wonton soup over the years because it's my favorite, so I was a little disappointed, but the Wontons themselves were still very delicious. Also, the fried rice was almost a little dry, which I'm not sure has ever happened to me with an Asian restaurant before. I wonder if maybe I just got a batch that was cooked too long or maybe was held a day or two. Considering the current economy, however, I think that's reasonable, so I'm not that upset about it. Pros. The steamed dumplings are incredible. I'd even say divine. Warm and super yummy. I've had asian dumplings from other places that were bland. That does not apply here. Also the Mongolian beef was very good. A good ratio of meat and veggies too. My one real general critique is that some of the packaging got a little squashed and the Wonton soup spilled a little. At least with the soup, if there's a carryout container out there that seals a little better it might be worth looking into. But yeah, overall I'm pretty happy with the food. I would definitely eat from here again.

I got Asian Star recently through delivery. The food wasn't the best, but it was good for the price. I got the orange chicken with a side of fried dumplings. Loved the dumplings! They were a little crispy on the outside and I they had a meat filling. The portions are large enough, especially for a lunch serving. No bad food, will try again sometime.

Asian Star does it again! This time I got shrimp fried rice! It came in a whole Togo box. Delicious and fresh! The wonton soup was the best I have had. It didn't need anything added to it. Perfect as is. The Mongolian beef was out of this world. Burst of flavor!!! I've said it before and I'll say it again best take out in Tulsa!

Coming from California, where there are an abundance of quality Chinese cuisine establishments, we were about to give up. We found this place and decided to give it a shot. First, the ambiance is delightful, very clean and ample seating. There is an outside dining area, which would be marvelous to try if it wasn't so bloody hot outside. Anyway, the menu is pretty extensive. We ordered Kung Pao chicken, steamed buns with pork belly, beef fried rice, house special lo mein, dumplings, and egg rolls. The dumplings were on the small side, but some of the most flavorful ones we have had. The egg rolls were not a disappointment either. The chicken was good, but not very Kung Pao, more Kung Mild. The beef fried rice was thoroughly cooked and tasty. The house special lo mein noodles were excellent. My favorite was the steamed buns with pork belly. They was plenty of delicious pork belly and the steamed buns made it even better. They do charge entree prices for sides, which is a little absurd and should be addressed. They serve Pepsi products. We will definitely be back as this is top tier Chinese food for Oklahoma.

The food was overpriced. There are so many great Asian food places in Tulsa and I would not get dumplings here again. My friend wanted the flat beef noodle spicy but it just seemed like they put a bunch of chilies in it instead of adding flavor. It was not her favorite and mine was good because it had no heat. But it is better at a lot of other places around Tulsa.

*** Review is during COVID-19 ***…read more Was craving some Chinese food recently and Yelp led me to China 8... and I'm glad it did! I knew I wanted something that felt like a classic night of Chinese takeout but a little more of a local spot and not TOO cookie cutter either. It turns out this was the right place for that - it felt like the best of both worlds! Staff person at front counter was wearing a face shield and they had moved the tables completely out of the way so I think they are not doing dine-in right now. We ordered two soups to share - the egg drop and the hot and sour. I've never really liked hot and sour soup but I gave it a try anyway. I still didn't love it but others said it was good haha. The egg drop soup was good, but I do feel like it was a little lacking in flavor. I know egg drop soup is pretty simple on purpose but I still felt like it could have used one more spice or ingredient. I liked that it came with wonton strips, which were good. The soup we ordered was fine, but it luckily didn't match the rest of the food, which on the other hand seemed much better than just "fine". For my main meal I had the kung pao chicken. To me, it wasn't spicy, but thee sauce was so good that I didn't really mind - which is kind of rare since I almost always want spicy food! The sauce was super sweet and full of flavor. I hadn't tasted something like it when I've had that dish before, and I thought that was really cool. They gave a good amount of chicken too! I substituted the rice for lomein because I was really in the mood for noodles. It was a great choice - they were super yummy as well! I'm not sure they are or not, but the noodles almost seemed homemade, like you could taste the flouriness of them... in a good way. Everyone agreed the lomein was really good. Maybe the best I've had! The portion size was really good, especially for the price - win win!! They have a small and large size for pretty much everything and we got the large for entrees and the soup as well. One other thing I specifically noticed in general was that everything tasted like a distinct dish instead of everything kind of tasting the same, like I feel is sometimes the case at similar places. Don't let the unassuming outside fool you! It may seem like your average Chinese spot but I really felt like it was so much less generic, while also not straying far from what you expect at all either. Definitely want to go back!
