Asian Star is a casual spot for Chinese takeout/delivery....And, hands down one of the best in the Ft. Washington area! Just my luck. I happen to stop here before heading back to DC for lunch. I was craving Chinese carryout .... Something quick and simple ....like Chicken Waangs & Mumbo sauce. Yes, don't judge...Lol. This is something you know you can just about find a dime or dozen...on every block at various carryouts in DC, but I noticed that Chinese carryouts are definitely far and few in the Fort Washington area. So...Thank goodness I found this place before heading back home. It is located in a shopping center off of Route 210 & Old Ft Road. Although, not much to look at on the outside or inside, this place is legit. The food is the bomb and hellacious!! I walked in and was greeted by a lady behind a plexiglass counter and asked if they had "Waangs and Mumbo Sauce" of course they did not. I almost started to turn away and leave, but so glad I didn't. Instead, I asked about popular dishes that they were known for and she mentioned the salt and pepper shrimp was popular, the egg foo young, and typical dishes like chicken with broccoli and combo lo mein. So I decided to order the salt and pepper shrimp, combination, egg, foo, young and a general Tso chicken. The order was prepared relatively fast and well packed for my long drive back to DC. WELL....Let me just say this right now..... I knew the food was going to be bangin' (good) just from the smells alone coming from the bag before I even left the store. The smells and aroma of garlic, salt, spices, gravy and peppers....were screaming through the bag! I couldn't wait to get home. Each dish was well prepared, fresh and super-seasoned! I was quite surprised both by the layers of flavors in each dish. The food even remained hot and most of the fried items remained crispy...not soggy or mushy. I must say I did not expect much from this restaurant at the time of ordering, but they proved me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed everything. In all, Asian Star gets "Two Thumbs Up!" from me! They offer a large menu selection of items including appetizers, noodle/rice dishes, vegetarian options and chef's specials. Given the customer service, large menu selection, price point and taste of their eats.... You can't go wrong with this place. It rivals any popular DC carryout any day.....hands down!! This was my favorite restaurant until about 2 months ago. The food isn't the same. New cooks??

Although it's not much to look at from the outside, we had decent and reasonably priced take out. The beef ho fun (chow foon) was tender and tasty, the noodles in the shrimp lo mein were great though the shrimp were small and lacked a lot of flavor. The chicken with broccoli was solid- chicken was tender and perfectly cooked. Tofu with vegetables was fine, as was the mushroom with pea pods, but would probably get something different next time. So NextDoor and Yelp highly rated this restaurant. Unfortunately, I don't agree with the high praise. All of the dishes lacked flavor and spice. I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food but my husband is. His taste standards are pretty low and he did not enjoy the food from here which speaks volumes. I hate when a restaurant asks if you want "spicy" you mark it and add to the note : extra, extra spicy.... I mean shit they could added a lot of red pepper flakes, hot sauce or something! When it comes to "spicy" I am very bias.... I am West Indian/ caribbean decent so I love "SPICY"! The salt and pepper shrimp wasn't bad but I have had better. Unfortunately we didn't have a great takeaway experience. The spicy crispy beef was gummy. The habachi beef was overdone, the hibachi shrimp wasn't deveined. The lo mein was ok. The fried rice w our spicy crispy beef was Japanese styled not Chinese, so just be aware. The shrimp egg rolls were blan. The seasoned fries were great! It was fast, we live near so picked it up immediately. Ate it within minutes. Honestly, just better flavors and prep, potentially holes in the corners of the containers like other places. So it doesn't keep cooking. I can imagine this being a worsened experience if we lived farther. read more

Due to health concerns, I have not been to Asian Star for an extended period. My wife and I was out and we had a craving for Chinese food. We ordered Salt and Pepper shrimp, won ton soup, pan fried dumplings, shrimp with brown sauce, and 5 chicken wings. Everything was delicious. The food tasted fresh and organic. As a general rule, I tend to avoid Chinese carryouts, but this one has more than a few tables (maybe 8-10) which ACTUALLY give you the impression they don't want you to "pay and go"...... so technically, I can get over my resistance to carryouts on this one, I 'spose, lol. Located in a non-descript strip mall with not much else in it, this spot is clean and inviting. Winnie, the cashier, is engaging and bubbly! Food is tasty and fresh. Kung Pao Chicken, Pepper Steak, Beef & Broccoli, Shrimp & Garlic Sauce and the rest of the "usual suspects" you're accustomed to seeing on such menus are all as expected - with one difference as I've noticed: the freshness of the veggies and the tenderness if the meats. The beef in many Chinese carryouts is typically shoe leather tough. Not here though. Not sure if they par pressure cook or what, but it's spoon tender. They serve entrees in circular plastic as opposed to the iconic cardboard boxes and even offer brown rice in lieu of white if that is your preference. Like I said, they seem a bit novel. PS - That haze of smoke you might sense is from the cigar bar next door, btw. The landlord has a ventilation issue between the two sites. Update: 1/3/17... ..The ventilation problem between the two locations has been fixed and the infamous cigar bar next door that was causing it is now my client. Go figure. read more

Asian Star is my go to carryout for chinese food. I haven't been disappointed with anything that I've ordered from there. My first real dish that i liked was the fish dinner, but the price has a risen a couple of dollars since i first started going there. The lady that used to run the register is very nice and she has good customer service skills. She is now cooking and they haven't missed a step. The lunch specials are priced very well too! I also like to order the soups from there as well. The seafood soup is pretty and the egg drop soup is great for hangovers!!! So I recently stumbled into this location for a afternoon lunch with my guy! It is in a strip mall right off of 210 (Indian Head Highway)! It was virtually empty at lunch time but that didn't deter us! However,I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was! It was very fresh and very tasty! I ordered the shrimp hibachi lunch special. It was very delicious! My guy ordered the general tso's lunch special and it was extremely good! I haven't eaten that in years and couldn't stop eating off his plate! It was delicious! We subsequently went back for round two one Saturday night and the place was jumping! It was borderline, crowded! So this place is no secret to the locals! Either way, the food was consistently good! Definitely added to a local Chinese spot for us in his neighborhood! However, the bathroom is only for paying patrons! And they don't play! They questioned a lady who was picking up her order after she asked to use the restroom. read more

Terrible customer service. They accidentally put shrimp in the food I ordered and I am allergic to shellfish. Completely understand that mistakes can happen but the lack of remorse and the whatever attitude with which they addressed it was unacceptable. The owner even had the nerve to get mad at me because I was upset that they gave me food that triggered my allergies. I tried this restaurant for the first time today and was disappointed. I ordered the chicken egg for young and sweet and sour chicken lunch specials. Also ordered two egg rolls. When I got home with my food and went to eat it, there was no sauce for the sweet and sour chicken. I called the restaurant and was told I could come back for the sauce. I live in Waldorf and did not want to drive back to the restaurant so I suggested they give me another sweet and sour at a later date. The restaurant responded they will only replace the dish if I bring back the dish I received and I said I don't know when I will venture back out, it could be another 2 weeks and they still said I had to bring the dish back for them to replace it. This is dispite the restaurant acknowledging they forgot to include the sauce. This experience makes me not want to do any more business with this restaurant. I understand people can forget things but they should have fixed it. Instead of sweet and sour chicken for lunch, I had fried rice and dry, fried chicken pieces. Today, I odered shrimp and pork egg foo young and Chicken Teriyaki on the stick. I can't tell you how many times I have purchased egg foo young and get egg patties floating in grease. I always get the the gravy on the side, so I can check how greasy it is before I eat it. This restaurant is pristine. My shrimp and pork egg foo young was not geasy at all which tells me that these people know how to cook Asian food healthy. I am reducing (so far God has brought me down from 420lbs to 290lbs) and learning how to eat better and when I don't have the time to cook, I look for good nutritious food This is my go to Asian food place. This new Chinese restaurant next to Weis is a great addition. The Hunan chicken is delicious--Just a little hot on the tongue with lots of vegetables and chicken. The Pork fried rice has a unique, almost maple taste that is yummy and filling. Be sure to order early on Fridays because the line gets long and the phone gets tied up. Having just moved to the area, I was in search of a solid Chinese take-out spot and I have definitely found it here! I don't know about you but sometimes I just really crave stir-fried Szechuan-style green beans and they will make a whole plate for you here! My boyfriend and I like to try out the "basics" at new places before exploring the rest of the menu, and they have definitely got those down here. He always goes for the General Tso's Chicken first whereas I opt for the Kung Pao Chicken. Both were extremely delicious and I love how many fresh vegetables were mixed into my Kung Pao! Well I guess sometimes we do explore small dishes off the bat because I had read about their Steak and Cheese Eggroll and had to try it! I've had those style eggrolls before at other Chinese restaurants but THIS ONE was AMAZING! Highly recommend getting one for each person you're dining with. I will definitely be ordering from here again and again, as many times as I crave Chinese food while I live here :) Sadly I'm taking one star off because they didn't have the Moo Shu Vegetables I really wanted to order after hearing all about their fresh veg.
