Tiger enormous size bite over pork fried rice
Jake S.

It is very rare for me to waste time writing a review about food I will never eat again under any circumstances. But, this place is on a whole different universe when it comes to portions/pricing and quality of their food. I stopped by one a sunday night after placing take out from their website. These prices are EXACTLY what you would get from their in house dining. Instead of driving two hours north to my favorite chinese food place, we regretfully ordered here for my birthday. We ordered for 9$ edamame. Decent portion size for 9$, absolutely 0 seasoning on it. I mean come on. Its 2 ingredients to make edamame. How do you forget one? We also ordered crab rangoons. First off, yes we did order this as a take away so we understand the "crispy" scale falls when the steam is trapped inside the take out box. What we dont understand is if you assumedly spend the energy to make a perfect crispy wonton wrapped crab rangoon, why on earth would you put cheddar cheese on the crispy shell and serve it once the cheese melts? The wonton were basically steamed after we got home since they were smothered in a layer of cheese. That being said, you also only taste the oil that the things were fried in. It loses any flavor of whatever "crab" is inside the shells. What a waste of 19$ for 5 tiny soggy rangoons. We ordered a large shareable size of pork fried rice, the upcharge of 9$ was for the stringy pieces of pork scattered in the fried rice. Again. Why are you making something fried then smothering it in hot moist food to steam it. The breading on the pork in the fried rice was gummy and honestly not edible. There's no need to try to reinvent the wheel. Every Asian place around does chunks of pork in their pork fried rice. Might want to consider changing your preparation of the dish. Lastly, the literal only saving grace was the 2 star tiger steak. This is a generous 2 star. The sauce was savory? Yes. Did it have a depth of flavor? Not really. Did we order it spicy, and did it actually have any level of heat to it? Yes, and 3/10. We did not get it mild. Was the steak worth 39$? Embarrassing question. I honestly never thought I would have spent 102$ on Chinese food ever for two people sharing a meal. This is insane evaluation for the pricing. See the pictures below for the quality of the food. The steak came in large, medium, small, and tiny sizes. Embarrassing. I honestly have no idea how places like this are still in business. We will not be back. Jake n kev

Really enjoyed my first experience at Grace's Mandarin. The Crab Rangoon was surprisingly very good, even with yellow cheese (which I usually only like on burgers), but it worked perfectly. The Emperor fried rice was hands down my favorite. The seasoning had so much flavor and tasted amazing with the shrimp and scallops. The drinks were great too. I had the Silk Road which tasted more like a light smoothie. The mango puree, strawberry and pineapple blended really well and weren't overly sweet. The lychee drink was especially good. We also had egg rolls, sushi rolls and a pork dish with a pineapple-based sauce. The sauce was really flavorful, and the pineapple gave it a taste that reminded me a bit of General Tso's chicken. Loved the little details like the purse chair and the stylish bathroom. Great food, drinks, and vibe. Definitely going back.

Not impressed by the combination of their food quality and prices. The menu felt overpriced and sitting at the bar felt stale compared to the surrounding restaurant- low energy with several TVs that don't seem too related to the overall theme. To be fair the decoration and overall ambience of the restaurant is amazing - and feels like a museum - but the food does not make up for it. There aren't many options for Asian food in this part of DC making it difficult to find other options. Overall average but still generally recommend if you're in the area looking for a Royal setting.

Crab Rangoon

Came here with my husband after a winter activity at the Gaylord and stopped in for happy hour. We sat by the bar, and our bartender was really helpful even though it was busy. We shared the crab rangoon--which were amazing and elevated compared to typical takeout--and a couple of sushi rolls that were fresh and tasty. I got a Pad Thai-style dish that was really good, and my husband had a thick udon noodle dish with shrimp and meat, which he loved. Overall, solid food and service. We'd definitely come back if we're in the area.

First off FANTASTIC service. Every waitress was great, but Emily was awesome. They give you hot towels to wash off your hands to start the meal. We got the Tiger Beef and Togarashi Chicken. Both were the perfect amount of spicy and savory. We would definitely recommend this place. The decor in here is INSANE. It is incredible and makes you really feel the customs of the culture. It is more fine dining, so the prices are a little bit higher, but the quality and amount of food you get is worth it!

Green Beans contain pork (not shellfish)

I'm only giving them two stars because they put pork in their Szechuan String Beans. I don't eat pork at all & the menu says it "Contains SHELLFISH". Since when has pork ever been considered shellfish?? I asked the lady afterwards what type of shellfish & if it was mixed in the sauce or something, she said, "Oh it's pork." As mad as I was, I couldn't even say anything. They tasted great but you can't just put stuff in your food & mislead people on what they're eating. What if I was allergic? I haven't eaten pork in years & I just sat there & ate a full bowl of deception. Please update your menu to reflect the "correct" ingredients in your food.

summary: located in the heart of the National Harbor/Oxon Hill area, Grace's Mandarin delivers upper-scale Asian cuisine (primarily Chinese and Thai) for an overall great experience. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was the decor of everything. They have it set up in a way where there's this tall staircase as well as a bunch of decorations all around and it does look fantastic. It's definitely a unique experience. They have a great menu with a system of servers and staff that clearly have a pretty well-oiled vibe going on. They tend to get busy - much like all of the other sit-down establishments in the area, so I would plan accordingly. The reason for the docking of the 1 star is due to the flavor. The food was good, but all of the dishes come at premium prices. I wouldn't say that I was necessarily blown away by any of the dishes considering the cost. That being said though, it was still a great experience with a friendly staff. The dishes were balanced and had good flavor and it's located in a very convenient spot if you're trying to explore the National Harbor area.

We got a mixed review from the group of 8. Overall, the ambience was elegant with comfort. If you time it right, you could see a beautiful sunset from the second level dining area. The service was lovely. You get a table side hot towel service to start. The food ranged from appetizers to sushi rolls to Chinese to Thai. crab rangoon, Edamame, tempura, soup, sushi rolls, and fried rice- good Panang, seafood medley, and Mandarin chicken- were a miss Salt and Pepper tofu- loved this dish (my order)

Came here for date night with bae. Ive been here a bunch of times but it has been awhile. I love trying new dishes each time. Today i tried the crispy shrimp imperial rolls. They were stuffed with flavorful veggies and shrimp. Then idk why i never noticed they had brussel sprouts! My favorite thing so i ordered those with my combination ( shrimp and chicken) fried rice. I definitely could not finish everything because the portions are so large. So 3 to go boxes it is! Lol

Singapore Rice Noodle*

Beautifully located at the National Harbor with amazing views of the Potomac River, this restaurant exudes an upscale dining experience. The wait service was attentive and friendly. Items I ate: * Salt & Pepper chicken wings- simply seasoned but very tasty. * Singapore Rice Noodles- I added shrimp as my protein. Nicely prepped. Insights: * Plenty of paid parking garages in the area. * You can reserve to dine here and I recommend to do so. * Each main entree is large enough to share with others.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is amazing. From the hot towel service to the decor down to the service it gets an A+. I had the catfish bites to start which were pretty good and some sushi as my main which was okay. The sushi roll "sexy salmon" I was not a huge fan of but I'm willing to go again and try a different roll. The nigiri I had was really good though. I had a pineapple mint margarita to drink, it was delicious and very strong. I finished off with the raspberry sorbet. The portion was huge and it was really tasty The food outside of the nigiri was just okay to me but the drinks, desert and ambiance were impressive I would give this restaurant another try

They are such a popular place with a long line, but the food and drink aren't that special. I came here twice for business meetings and once personal, every time it is the same experience. 1. Reservation: necessary They are busy. If you don't have a reservation, come prepared to wait at least 30 mins. 2. Food: 3 stars Chinese and Japanese fusion food. Nothing is that good and the price does not reflect the quality. 3. Drinks: 3 stars Mixed drinks aren't as good as other places such as Bond nearby. 4. Service: 3 stars Slow, they are very busy and lots of crowds to attend to . 5. Ambience: very loud, crowded The decor is beautiful though.

Thanks for visiting aka thanks for being a sucka!!

I took my daughter for dinner at this restaurant. Our rib appetizer was decent. Our our spring roll appetizer was decent. Our sushi was one step above grocery store sushi and that is being generous. We got $36 fried rice that had some frozen seafood, thin pork? Strips, low quality rice and frozen peas and carrots. They serve the sushi with some sort of sauce that tasted like miso soup instead of soy sauce. The wasabi probably came out of a tube. When my $133 bill came I was not shocked as everything is way overpriced listed on the menu. I was shocked that I had an 18% gratuity added to my bill for a two top table. I could have ordered food for a family of eight for Chinese delivery that would have tasted better. I would say this was lackluster at best. I guess your bill is helping to pay for the ostentatiously ugly Asian decor and giant statues outside the door. Maybe they should put more money back into their food. I will not be dining there again. Asian fusion = nothing notable.

Grace's Mandarin Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Grace's Mandarin

Does this place have Happy hour specials?

Yes, Tuesday-Saturday. I think 4-7 only at the downstairs not upstairs

Do you need a reservation? Is this place normally packed for a Thursday night?

No reservations are ever required to my knowledge. Only exception I can think of is if you have some large party or something. I typically go during the day so I can't speak to the evening traffic.

Do they serve any kind of cider?

They do not serve any type of cider (hot or cold). But, the Walrus Oyster & Ale House (152 Waterfront St, Oxon Hill, MD 20745) does.

Do they serve any cocktails without alcohol (a mocktail)?

Yes, absolutely.

How is the sushi here?

Sushi here is the best in the area, cant go wrong on it.

In mid-November 2025, my friend was having a birthday celebration in Old Town Alexandria. He was originally picking some Italian place, Mia's, which we were looking forward to, but I think my friend tried to book a reservation too late, and the available times weren't at all good for him. So, he switched to Asian Bistro. I was thinking this wasn't going to be as good. I was skeptical because they were simply Asian Bistro and didn't focus on one cuisine like Chinese, Thai, etc. However, I was mistaken. The restaurant is small, but they accommodated for our large group albeit a bit tight. Server was friendly. My girlfriend & I decided to split Pad Thai & a couple of sushi rolls. Wow, this was one of the best Pad Thai I've had, and the sushi rolls were surprisingly great too. If in Old Town, this is a great option.

I stopped in for a quick lunch. it wasn't terribly busy aside from the friendly regulars who were eating at the table next to me. The service was timely and hospitable as I was able to order quickly and was offered drink refills pretty routinely throughout my time there. Their menu features appetizers like summer rolls, veggie gyoza, crab & chicken shumai, and entrees like lemongrass pan fried noodles, broccoli stir fry, pad thai, and lo mein with your choice of protein as prices range from about $10-$20 per item. I kept it simple and tried the fried rice with pork. Overall excellent dish: large portion size, a sufficient amount of protein, and a nice combination of ingredients with the shredded carrots, bell peppers, peas, scallions and onions. I'll certainly be returning to try out a few more of their menu items.

For us, we were talking to an artist in the Torpedo Art Studio in Old Town Alexandria, admiring the work he did. It got then we started talking about lunch as he was from Hong Kong. He mentioned we go across the street and try something he liked as it was something he would have back home. So, taking his advice we walked across the street and went to Mai Thai. It was a good suggestion. We went in and had a seat. Our waitress (a wonderful woman from Guam) gave some advice and we to some time to think. In the end we decided to start with Spring Rolls. This is the freshest sliced roll of crispy veggie combinations of lettuce, celery, mixed veggies wrapped in a thin wrap and served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. It was truly fresh and tasty. The dipping sauce was unique and made this worth a meal by itself. Then, being a cold day outside, soup seemed to be a good thing for lunch. We selected some traditional bowls of soup. First was TOM KA. It was a combination of vegetables and tofu in a coconut broth with mushrooms and fresh herbs. The soup had a tint of white. It was light and tasty. It was at a room temperature which is the way you have soup in Thailand. It was refreshing and light. Next we had TOM YUM. This is a combination made from slices of chicken in a lemongrass soup with fresh mushrooms, cilantro, scallions, galangal, kaffir-lime leaves, and Thai spices. The broth was light and traditional. If you wanted more spice our hostess brought it to you. Again, this was the way I had it when I was working in the rural areas of Thailand. Nothing fancy. Nothing simple. It was true home cooking that was served to you in a method truly Thai. The lunch was simple, but the way you would eat in Thailand. The taste and flavor was what to expect. The team is wonderful and friendly. The price was fine. It was good to find Mai Thai. And maybe being told about it from an artists does make it true to say that "Art is in the eye (and mouth) of the beholder."
