#6 I began complaining that I needed a massage and some pampering and yada, yada, yada to my partner and apparently he agreed so he gave me ca$h for a mani/pedi. Well, I have stitches in my finger still from a bad cut and they did not want to do much work on me at the nail salon until my stitches are out (okay, I guess that makes sense). One hour full body massage here I come. I decided on the Asian Wellness Center based on a recommendation by my wonderful partner, so I called to make an appointment, dressed in some more than comfy clothing and was on my way. I drove the four blocks to the center even though I may have usually walked, but it is raining today and I am a little sick so the drive was short and sweet. I arrived, found parking directly across the street and paid the meter. Super excited to get inside because I have so much stress in my life lately... Meh ;( I walked in and was greeted in a wonderfully friendly manner by Yuyu and she told me she would be with me shortly and showed me the waiting area with some big comfy chairs, blankets and pillows. I grabbed a chair, checked in and began to relax and wait my turn. Yuyu came and got me pretty quickly. I was led into a small room with a wonderful heater and a nice massage table. She instructed me to get undressed, hang my clothing on the door and get into the bed. The bed was so super warm upon my laying down. I covered myself after I became comfortable, and awaited Yuyu's arrival. The room smelled wonderful, it felt really peaceful. I was so relaxed when she arrived. She entered pretty quickly and made sure I was comfortable. I think I was beyond comfortable. She made sure I had everything I needed, such as water, warm blankets, heat, etc. It was nice that she was so attentive. She then asked me about the pressure I enjoy, I replied, "I do like a lot of pressure--I am tense." She proceeded to fix my issues. She began with a deep back and shoulder massage. Then she moved to the legs and then it was time to turn over. I received foot massage and also a head massage. I was so relaxed I think I fell asleep for a few seconds, she woke me up to inform me that we were going to do a hot stone massage and I needed to tell her if the stones were too hot. Well, they were not, they were perfect, just like her. After all this pampering, I was done. I gathered my clothing, tipped my wonderful massage lady--Yuyu, and left, extraordinarily relaxed and comfortable. Stephani Smiles for Asian Wellness Center ;) #yuyurocks

For the price can't get better than this. All the therapists speak some English. I particularly recommend Linda or Salina. Enjoy!

Why choose Rachel?…read more Massage therapy should be a holistic experience that benefits both the mind and body. While massage helps promote relaxation and the release of endorphins, that experience can be diminished if the therapist appears disengaged or unhappy in their work. Whether you prefer conversation or silence, feeling comfortable and cared for is essential. Rachel consistently provides that experience through her warm personality, professionalism, intelligence, and genuine care for her clients. I specifically asked her to address my chronic shoulder pain, and she was able to identify and work on the muscles that were triggering my symptoms. The treatment was targeted, effective, and left me feeling significantly better. As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I understand the importance of patient experience and quality care. It's easy to see why people appreciate Rachel's work ethic and the positive environment she creates. Good vibes overall. Thank you, Rachel!

After a single visit, on coming back a month later, she somehow remembered a lot about me - that I practice brazilian jiujitsu, do regular soft tissue work at home, that I have family and business in Orange County. We chatted for at most 10 total minutes during my first visit. It's exactly this type of continuity that I was looking for in finding a massage therapist to go to more regularly. Berkeley has a few great Thai massage places but therapists rarely speak English and they never seem to honor the specific therapist you book. I was looking for someone who will retain information on what I like and what my muscles need, and Rachel is exactly that kind of massage therapist.

Very welcoming, spacious and friendly I've been twice now first time was the body massage I don't think they paid attention to the body areas that I filled out on the clipboard so the second time I got the foot massage and it's basically the same thing as paying for the body massage.. Only downfall is when it comes to giving tip. They never seem satisfied, even though I did tip a good amount.

I called, they were friendly and could see me right away. Didn't ask my name because they had caller id. I arrived on time, the only one there, and waited 15 minutes. No big deal. It may have just opened for day. Explained to the front desk the areas I'd like to focus on. They said no problem. 6-10 chair beds in one dimly lit room, good ambiance. Another person came in right after me and they sat us directly next to each other until the other person requested space. Massage was good, had to request more pressure. I specifically pointed to the places I wanted focus (forearm, thumb/hand, calf, Achilles, and foot & ball of foot -- all on the left side.) (also lower neck and behind my left ear to loosen the muscle near my eustachian tube) not only do I feel the right side was given the most attention, my left calf and Achilles weren't touched at all. Lots of attention paid to the feet and between the toes, shoulders and neck were nice too, but not evenly distributed. There were also supposed to be hot stones, but I don't think that was even done when i was laying flat. All and all, maybe a good massage if you're just looking for a general feel good rub, but don't go expecting transformation or anything mind blowing.

The place was clean and simple, no fancy decor but inviting enough with dim lighting and gentle melodies playing in the background. Beware, you can hear through the walls -- cars honking outside, staff chatter (in Chinese) in the lobby and shared space with massage lounge seating, even my boyfriend's snoring in the room next to mine during our sessions. We got the combination massage (30 minutes foot/30 minutes body), and my experience was positive. Pressure wasn't consistent during the entire treatment, but for the most part it was on the deeper side and effective. The first half focused mainly on the back, plus neck, shoulders, and arms, as well as a bit of the legs. The second half, my masseur asked me to "turn over" as he left the room briefly. He meant not only to flip over to lie on my back but also to change positions so that my head would be at the foot of the bed. From there, he did a very detailed job on my legs, feet, and each individual toe, borderline painful but overall good. We paid upfront before our services, including a credit card fee (2.50 per massage). Afterward, we gave a cash tip. They have a sign at the front asking for $20 (with very friendly language), which is the typical amount we tip anyway. The staff was incredibly kind and professional, so I have no complaints.
