Massage therapist took phone calls throughout my massage. Left the room to go have a conversation. Massage not great

I was looking for a cheap massage place in the area, so I decided to go one day after work when I saw online that Mayflower Spa had a great deal. There was a communication difficulty when I tried to make an appointment on the phone. The lady who answered didn't speak English really well, but I got an appointment in the end after some back and forth. When I arrived, the door was locked even though the sign outside clearly said it was open until 10 pm. Not sure what was going on, but someone opened the door and welcomed me in. The massage itself was pretty good, especially considering the price. My therapist asked if I wanted medium or hard. For the most part I got the strength level I asked for. I asked her if she could focus on my neck and shoulder area since that was where I was experiencing discomfort, and she spent a lot of time working on the knots there. I left satisfied with the massage itself, but there were a few things with the facility that bugged me: - There was a weird smell that I couldn't place. Smelled either like urine in public restrooms in China or mold, especially if you go to the bathroom. - The walls don't go all the way up, so you can clearly hear whatever is going on in the other rooms as if there were no walls. $40 for an hour of full body massage is a great deal, but I have gone to massage places around this price range that didn't smell and weren't as loud. read more

Just left there with my Husband 20 minutes ago. Absolutely loved this place!! Tony's hands of steel remixed me maine!!! I feel like a new woman!! We both got the 60 minute oil full body message and they we're terrific. I also like that this place is really transparent with their requested tips.. they have a sign with suggested amounts from 10,15,20. This is a relatively affordable place for Bay Area and good quality considering I tried several other massage places for sports Wear and tear and looking for a similar effect. I researched how effective massages were for sore muscles and on average the positive effects of the massage last about a week so I gave this place a try. It made me feel better for about a week as well! Vibe: The ladies are from Hebei and offered snacks like sunflower seeds while we waited. From talking to them, I can see they're very hardworking and doing so much. Slightly noisier than others and slightly lower cleanliness which can be improved Quality varies by masseuse but I found the massage I got was on par with other place in SF that had higher price points. read more

Hey this place is great! I don't know why there is a review mentioning pickpocketing and theft because nothing happened to me, and I didn't get that vibe. Yes; this isn't a $200 massage place where they treat you like royalty, but you have to temper your expectations. I brought my friend here on a 2-person, 60-minute Groupon. It was full body, and I needed it. My masseuse asked me if I wanted to strong, moderate or soft, and I went for hard. Boy did she realign certain things. I came out of it feeling like play-dough. I've had over 20 massages there and recently brought my friend (platonic female who can be a bit "bougie") there and it passed her vibe check twice now. This is a no-frills, Asian massage. I was going there weekly before Covid and then stopped because of Covid. They're now open on a modified schedule And the massage is just as good, but some of the massage therapists like Bobby (my favorite masseur) is no longer there. Yes, they area Asian so be patient with the language barrier. Personally, I've never had a problem communicating where I was hurting or where I would like attention. Just speak slowly and be clear. Masseuse or person giving the massage seemed like she didn't have any formal massage training and didn't have a clue about the human anatomy. There was no flow or method to the massage just squeezing in one particular section of the body. Normally a masseuse takes their time to work the entire body meticulously, not this time. There were times that I felt her elbow and forearms digging into my spine, one of the most delicate places where caution needs to be met. I initially went in because there was a knot in my upper back area. Not only was this knot still there by the time she was done but I left feeling off balanced as if the knot transferred elsewhere and not fully released and regretting the entire experience. Worst massage I've ever gotten!! I should have paid an extra $25 for an actual masseuse who knew what they were doing. I usually don't write negative reviews, but this place should not be taking money from people they don't deserve. Take your money else where, place is a scam. read more

I had very low expectations going in since I found this place from a Groupon discount. My hackles were up immediately because all the red flags for human trafficking were there- opaque, locked door with security camera, staff barely spoke any English, pretty funky interior. I left a convert. I ended up having one of the best massages of my life! Tutu (not sure how to spell it- she said it means bunny rabbit in Chinese) was friendly and funny and skilled (lots of references to acupuncture points and pressure on points I didn't even know had issues but was sure glad she found) and not afraid to totally go for it with pressure but great about adjusting if it wasn't right. The towel she used was small and she gets close to your bits (not in a creepy way at all) so if you're shy this might not be the place for you. I will 100% go back and ask for Tutu. read more

I've seen this place walking by and wondered about it so I finally checked it out. I got the foot massage for $20 and husband got the body massage for $40. Both were an hour long. The place was clean, people were nice, and both services were good, especially for the price. The foot massage could've been a bit stronger, but I'll ask for that when I go back. They take credit cards for payment and even tip, though we have them a cash tip. Also, they give you a frequent visitor card so if you go 10 times, you get that service for free the next time. read more

I've been here twice and had two different massage therapists. Both of them were top notch. I will say that we are paying half of what they're worth as far as skill, and it's annoying when people come in with expectations like they should be at a spa... Go to a spa. It's why you pay $100-$200/hr. So you can have cucumber water and be spoken to like you're nobility. If you're going for a good massage and are on a budget, go here. It's a good place as far as I've been able to tell. Everything from the bathrooms to the tables are details I look for to see what level of pride they take in their business. read more

Just wow! My friend and I came here for a foot massage and were both equally impressed by the massage. The ladies are strong and work hard. The foot massage is $20 and they actually massage your entire body, so I recommend this. The place isn't fancy like a traditional "spa," but you will get a great massage for a great price, and that's all that matters in my opinion. Plus the place is clean. So it was a random weekday and I wanted a massage. I originally called for 3 people but I guess there was some miscommunication and she had heard only 2. I got lucky and there was parking right in front that I could barely squeeze into. We rang the bell (as it was locked) and I believe the owner opened it for us. They did have their dog there, which I didn't really mind because I love dogs but at one point it did jump on me during my massage LOL. As for the massage itself-because I had the owner-everytime someone rang the doorbell-she had to go up and answer it, which I didn't really care for but it did happen quite a bit. The massage itself was nice and she had strong hands, but they did talk so don't expect any peace or quiet. The room itself was just a large living room sectioned off by curtains and room dividers. Nice pro is that it was only $20 an hour for a foot massage (which is basically for your whole body if you guys didn't know, haha). They have a stamp card where it's buy 10 get 1 free (I think) so I'd come back-it's cheap and my experience wasn't horrible lol. read more

Wow!!! This massage was the best I've had in a long time! We moved here from Seattle recently. It's not a traditional spa setting, with warm eucalyptus smells and ocean music, but it's an amazing massage. Even felt like I received a chiropractic adjustment. Just a bad experience....I asked for a male massage therapist - I got a female - who really needs to go back to school to learn how to give a massage. She really didn't have a clue how to give a full body massage. She also did not speak English. She also elected to make it a sensual massage, which I did not ask for. People kept coming in the room. Place was very loud. The top of the walls are open - so you here the person getting a massage moan & be slapped by therapist. People are talking. Door bell ringing. Not a relaxing experience. DON'T waste your MONEY or TIME! People here can barely speak any English and barely know anything about massaging! The masseuse lady that was massaging me had very rough hands and was touching the same spot over and over when I told her that my legs need to most attention, she said "okay" and went on rubbing my right shoulder for the next 20 minutes. Midway into my massage session a male customer was in the next room to mine expecting a female masseuse but a male masseuse walked in and he immediately got upset and told him that he asked for a female masseuse. Customer got upset and wanted to leave but the male masseuse told him in horrible English to wait and he will get a female masseuse to massage him. I heard a female masseuse telling the customer it's okay don't leave I will take care of you. Customer told them both that he's not interested and wants to leave next thing I know my masseuse walks out to tell him that she was going to take care of him. I was shocked and upset that my masseuse left me hanging to take care of another customer. I was left a lone and 10 minutes later another masseuse lady walked in and told me "I'm here for you...I care for you". I told her that I was not happy that she left me alone without saying anything she again said it's okay "I care for you". She started massaging, immediately I knew that she didn't know what she was doing by the way she was touching and moving from spot on my body to another every 30 seconds. While this was my experience, my wife next door was complaining to her masseuse that she was hurting her. I heard my wife complain over and over that she was being hurt. When we got done my wife told me that she did not enjoy her massage at ALL! We went to the front desk to complain but the lady did not speak any English except saying "thank you". The masseuse lady that was working on my wife came over after hearing us compiling and told her friend that my wife's body is too weak! Lol I was speechless and to not get anymore upset than I was my wife and I we just walk out and left! Horrible place! Horrible experience! Don't ever go here! read more

But so much for the treatment until I have come here a few more times. My masseuse, Kay Lan, is a good natured young woman who speaks very little English. Be very careful!!! When you get naked and put your face on the massage table hole, the masseur distracts you with noises in your ears while the men enter the room and rob you of your money... not all of it, so you won't notice at first, but they go thru your wallet and pockets while you are naked, defenseless and at their mercy. When I enter the room I had 265 dollars in my wallet. Two- one hundred-dollar bills!!! I found out after I tipped the lady, that most of my money was gone!! Except for 45 dollars. I didn't say anything because it was obvious that I couldn't do anything!! It was two male Chinese mofos and two masseurs , which by the way, do a fucking lousy job!! So be very careful when and where you hang your clothes and you are facing down!!! One of them is gonna enter the room, without you hearing or noticing because the lady is "massaging" your ears and makes notices so you don't hear the thief going thru your shit! But man oh man I am so happy I found this place. It's a hidden gem doesn't look like much from the outside in fact if it wasn't for Yelp. Bought a Groupon to try it out since my neighbor recommended. We only live a few blocks away. I had my mom come and tried as she has back pain. The place seems very busy. Walked it and there's the reception desk on the left and 2-3 foot massage chair area on the right. We were checked in and bought to our rooms to change right away. The place is a little dated and you can definitely hear other people speaking outside. My massage was only ok but my mom liked her as she said the masseuse took the time to work on her problem area. I had a fair amount of pain in my shoulders and upper back when I went to Mayflower Spa to get a massage. While I had trouble communicating exactly what I wanted initially due to a language barrier, May, my masseuse, did a great job of applying the amount of pressure I needed to relieve some of the pain and work out a lot of the knots. She did a great job on my back, and I will definitely go back...and with the Groupon deal, I can go more regularly, although all their services are very reasonable. My friend had the 1-hr foot massage (which is really much more than feet) and loved it...and at $19, it's hard to beat. And they give a buy 10, get one free card! The bathroom and the general facilities were very clean and, although there was more noise than I am used to in these type settings, I was there to get pain relief, not bliss out, so it really didn't bother me much.
