Business Class Smartium seating was very nice. I find it odd that Koreans like to make up english names? You cant really get much better seating for business class. Dont give it more than 4 stars cause I've had much better food on other airlines. Hate to say but even AA or United have better food whether flying to europe or asia. But anyways, they serve ramen throughout the flight in a nice porcelain feeling bowl which I thought was very classy for instant noodles. I learned from a stewardesses (before calorie counts became popular) on my ye old AA JFK to London route that if you ate everything in business class that they gave you (without asking for more) that you would eat over 2500 calories. Based upon the calorie counts on the menu, each meal was around 600-700 calories (so times 2 it was 1200-1400). But since it wasnt that great I guess no big loss. I guess I am use to a bowl of warm nuts and a liquor based drink before take off after I get to my seat. read more

I have to say, it got us to where we wanted to go (from New York to Manila, Philippines). From check in time, we encountered some problems. The person who assisted us was not friendly and caused us stress. The supervisor who assumed the issue of our situation apologized since the other guy was in a rush to go home at the end of his shift. We encountered issues since our return flight was booked by our travel agent through a different airlines. After that was settled, while waiting to board, we got called that one of our luggage just "broke open" and contents spilled out. They apparently placed everything back and "taped" the luggage because the zipper is not working anymore. The attendant asked "Is that okay?" It was politely asked, but in reality, even if we say it's not okay, nothing else can be done. She told us to fill out a claim form once we reach our destination and claim our baggage. We encountered another "call to the desk" at the layover in Korea. We had to explain again that our return flight is with another airlines. Isn't supposed to be the same computer system? Flow with Asians from JFK to Seoul in business class, the staff was excellent, during the 16 hour flight they served drinks and then dinner after take off. After another hour lights was dimmed so you can sleep comfortable. If you are in a moose for a drink or snack so are noodle soup and sandwiches available. read more

Note to self (and to Yelpers across the world): Never fly Asiana Airlines. (I should have checked Yelp before booking.) My current situation, my flight to Japan was cancelled because there's snow in NYC. Fine, not a big deal. Shit happens. So the night before the flight, we try to call the reservation number. The automatic message says "I'm sorry, we have a high call volume. Call back later *click*" So, we tried until they closed; never got through. We call again in the morning. The call center is in Cali, so they aren't open yet. You can use their automatic system, but of course it's not helpful. So we decide to go to the airport. Typically the check-in people can be helpful (not cheerful, but helpful). So we make our way to the airport. We get to the check-in counter, and the two people there cannot do anything. They cannot rebook flights, they cannot cancel a flight, nothing. I don't know why they are even paying these two to be there. They give us 2 numbers to call. One is the Cali number. The other is one in NYC. We try that one... *Drum roll* It linked us to the Cali number that says "I'm sorry, we have a high call volume. Call back later *click*" *angry face* So we tell the two people at the desk. They tell us to leave a message, and we tell them that it doesn't ask us to. It just hangs up. Her response "oh! I'll put in a complaint about that" HA! Then we remember that we booked through Bank of America travel center. (We wish we would have remembered last night, but we though Asiana would be helpful.) Now, we've been on the phone with BOA for almost an hour because they are waiting on Asiana to answer. Meanwhile, Delta is packed and is rebooking their people. Smdh. Asiana is on our do not fly list. Hopefully BOA can help us out so they don't land on our "do not book through" list lol UPDATE: I feel like I owe the Yelp community an update. BOA was able to man handle Asiana and get our money back! We did end up going to Japan by booking again through BOA, but NOT Asiana. :) Japan was awesome! read more

Great airline experience! I was a little disappointed with the website, which is not English friendly nor as robust as it could be. However, my family has flown Asiana and recommended and I'm so glad they did. Asiana puts American airlines to shame. Fares are not the cheapest but if you book in advance, you can get a decent deal. For some reason, I had to open an Asiana frequent flyer account, according to the Korean travel agency that my father used to book our family vacation. But it looks like you can put these miles onto your Star Alliance account, which makes more sense for me. We flew Asiana to / from Incheon and also from Incheon to/from Hong Kong with minimal delays. There was a good selection of movies (American, Korean and World Cinema), games, etc available on the personal touch screens in every seat. The movies were pretty current and helped to pass the time. Korean movies were subtitled in various languages, including English. There were a lot of Children's programming and games. I also liked the Travel feature that allowed you to chart the plane's progress during the flight. Good communication was given about the flight and any turbulence, timing , etc. in both English and Korean. Food was served, even for the 3-4 hour flight to Hong Kong. You were offered both American and Korean meal options, which BTW, were tasty and substantial (salad, soup, entree, dessert and heated!) Beverage service was frequent and even allowed for complimentary alcoholic beverages. Baggage was included in the ticket price. Flight attendants were very courteous, professional and efficient. You also got a pillow, blanket and complimentary slippers and headphones. There were even complimentary toothbrushes and tiny tubes of toothpaste in the bathrooms. Important plus: There were electrical and USB outlets on the plane JFK to/from Incheon. You can also get wi fi but it's pretty expensive. There is a shuttle service between Fort Lee and JFK for Asiana passengers that you can reserve with your ticket. It used to be free but now has a $5 surcharge, which is still a bargain. I saw there was another shuttle to/fr Philadelphia too but not sure how much that cost. Asiana made a 14 hour flight as comfortable as possible. I flew economy so I can't imagine how well taken care of the First Class passengers felt. It was a true pleasure to fly an airline that actually made the flight pleasant and didn't nickel and dime the passengers on standard amenities. I wish the website was more US friendly because I would really have liked to take my pup on vacation with me but couldn't get enough info to make a decision. However, I'm definitely flying Asiana again. read more

Asiana is the best economy class I've ever flown, by far. They have excellent meals, amenities, legroom, and cabin service. Also they didn't lose my luggage nor arrive late on 4 segments I flew with them, which seems like an accomplishment considering my past luck on other airlines. I'm 6'1" so I have experienced having to rest my knees on the seat in front of me for the duration of a flight on Iberia and Lufthansa. I literately was not able to sit down like a normal person because the length of my femurs couldn't fit between my seat back the seat in front of me. Now I use Seatguru to aid in choosing an airline which helped me find Asiana. Asiana economy has 33-34" inches of seat "pitch" verses 31" on Iberia and Lufthansa economy. This extra 3"-4" was really important to me for a 14+ hour flight. The cheapest airlines for my flight to Bangkok were Aeroflot and Lufthansa. Lufthansa has good meals but the legroom was untenable for me. For an extra 10% I opted for Asiana since it had more legroom and some flyer sites had given it good reviews and even award for the meal service. I was really happy with my decision. The cabin crew is really well disciplined like a military unit. They all spoke English, some were limited but I still had no problems communicating. Every passenger gets slippers, a blanket (a good one), and a pillow (including on my connecting flight from ICN to BKK). The meals are usually a choice between Korean or Western. You get real metal utensils and ceramic dishes in economy! (how easily I am amused). There's almost always a beef choice. Sometimes both choices are beef like Sirloin steak with mashed potatoes with gravy or beef bulgogi. So if you're a vegetarian make sure to request a meal when booking. Beer and wine was complementary. There was a good number of bathrooms on board and they had individual toothbrush kits you could take (even on the shorter connections). Of course frugal travelers make them disappear quickly. Asiana is one of the last airlines that seems to try to impress customers with its service rather than cutting corners to reduce costs. If you like: choosing your seat in advance, free checked bags, legroom, and having an excellent meal then I say go with Asiana. read more

I am in a very expensive and horrible situation because of Asiana Airlines. I called to make a reservation on April 7th for my flight, and I also booked a reservation with my emotional support animal. It was accepted and everything was alright. I called back to reschedule the flight, as there was a similar flight leaving around the same time that was 6 hours shorter. The reservation call center representative happily rebooked my flight, but they failed to tell me that they cancelled my emotional support animal reservation. From my knowledge, everything was fine as it was the SAME agent who cancelled and rebooked my flight who added my emotional support animal reservation. We made our connecting flight to NYC from Boston, where we went to check in with Asiana. They said we had no reservation on file as the original reservation was cancelled with the flight that was rebooked. There was apparently nothing they could do about it. The girl we worked with Alleyah, was very nice and tried to accommodate us, but her manager told her they would not make any exceptions today because there were already other dogs on the flight. They then tried to tell us that we would not be allowed to bring our dog, because we did not have a USDA stamped letter. When I called the USDA, they said that I DO NOT NEED a stamp to enter Korea on a LAYOVER. Regardless, I have since obtained a USDA stamp and I have all necessary paperwork. We could have made our flight that day but the staff at the airport REFUSED to allow us. We are now STRANDED in New York for several days until this is resolved. Asiana is trying to blame us and make us pay additional fees to reschedule. We own an import/export business in Vietnam and will be contacting our lawyers to obtain the recordings of the voice calls. We should not be treated this way. read more

I am divided between a 3 and 4. I decided on 3 as they changed to provider of meal service and its not as good as before. I looked at previous reviews and I have never encountered delays out the norm more than any other airline. The JFK operations are a bit odd. Its like they use outsourced ground staff assist in boarding plane. There are these rude harsh West Indian women that need be educated on customer service. You speak with a heavy accent and get angry when a Korean cannot understand you. You are at a Korean airline take some basic language lessons. The check in counter staff I have encountered the last 5 or so flights have been awesome. The flight attendants are friendly even though the can be partial to Koreans. I think thats more a respect for the elders than anything else. The food can use improvements. The flight attendents constantly bring fluids to drink. The restrooms are cleaned and stocked thru the flight. Thats a major task considering how lots flying had bad hygiene practices. Its one of a few airlines that allows one to travel to Micronesia I was delayed once and was put on the next Singapore Air as it was a alliance partner. They are my airline of choice for SE Asia and Micronesia. Could they use tweaks to improve yes but every airline can. read more

You may be good if there is no changes with your itinerary and that you don't have to deal with their customer service. They have the worst customer service ever. Needed to changed my flight, called customer service and told me to call back next day because the fare department that deal with fees and schedule change is closed. Plz note, the hours is 8:30 am to 4:30 pm pacific time. So I called next day and wait for half an hour for an agent to tell me to call back in an hour because the fare department is at lunch from 12 to 1 and to call back in a hour. Absolute ridiculous that the entire department is out at lunch. And they don't do call back. Couldn't you said in the automated machine that your whole department is at lunch instead of me wasting half a hour waiting for an agent to inform me to call back. Can you upgrade your technology and register caller's number & call back instead of having them waiting on hold??? You are better off with an american airline with better customer service/support than the foreign airlines that offer limited customer support. I found rescheduling with Cathay Pacific is as difficult as well. Avoid foreign airline if possible. read more

Went to Korea back in December and this is probably the best airline I've flown. I travel a lot and usually fly United, but since United had no direct flights to Korea from where I live, I decided to give Asiana a try. The food was really good and even though I flew economy, we were given real silverware which I thought was nice. On the return flight they even gave us Korean sheet masks for our face. Being a fan of Korean skin care, I thought that was a real plus. There was plenty of in flight entertainment which is a must for a 14 hour flight. I wish US air carriers could me more like Asiana. read more

I was on my way to Korea, from Atlanta. I took Delta from Atlanta to JFK Airport. Delta was a nightmare! ONE free check in only and even first class on Delta feels like Travel class. But, when I got on Asiana Airlines from JFK, the travel class felt like first class! My travelmate asked for water, and two beautiful, neat and clean flight attendants ran to serve her as if she were a queen! Wow! That alone amazed me, and it could have been the comparison between that and the dreadful Delta flight that amazed me, but I was impressed. Whatever I wanted there was a pretty flight attendant giving a genuine smile and assisting with my needs. I even saw one flight attendant help one mommy rock her baby to sleep! The entertainment was good, newer movies and fun games. I was comfortable while resting and the flight had no turbulence. The food was amazing there was a choice between a western meal and an eastern meal, both were great as I ate some of my travelmates food! From beginning to end, though the flight was fourteen hours, I felt as though it were only 5! It was truly amazing! read more

I'll pick zero or negative stars if this website allows me to. My mom and my brother just had a horrible experience with this airline last Aug 9, 16. They flew from JFK to MNlL with ICN layover. After the whole entire day of flying they find out that they are missing one of their baggage. Their staff is clueless and don't know where was the baggage lost(which is nearly impossible during these days technology). Asiana employees redirected my mom to immigration officers (which i don't understand). The employee of asiana is asking for the baggage passcode and the items inside(in which my mom did not provide. She doesn't need to. I'm puzzled why do they have to know all of that) My mom went home with a claim form from asiana employee indicating the information of her missing baggage. A week has passed Asiana exert no efforts of reaching out to us. Nobody gave the update not unless we call and force them to look for it(in which we don't have any assurance if they are really looking for it). I don't recommend flying with this airlines. They don't care about their passengers. Beware not unless you are ready to take the risk of losing your baggage. read more
