We used Cathay Pacific for a round trip flight between Tokyo and Hong Kong. The service was "okay" but nothing to get excited about. The food was also average but on the good side. I felt that the ground staff in Tokyo could have been a little more polite. They seemed to abruptly answer any questions we had. I know they were busy but helping passengers is their job, isn't it? The plane left and arrived on time so I have no complaints there. Our baggage also arrived quickly. This was a few years back. I have no idea what they are like today. I would do some key work to see if they have improved or declined in service, as has been the case with many Hong Kong services these past few years due to their getting accustomed to doing things the PRC (China) way. I am hearing left and right from those in Hong Kong that services are no longer what they used to be, with many older high service restaurants and other establishments closing their doors. read more

JFK - HKG. PLS do yourself a favor and skip Economy and go straight to Premium Economy. I've heard so much good stuff about Cathay for years. Finally had the chance to try it out. Cons: - Seats for Economy are small and tight! Think of Spirit and Frontier. Then sitting on that for 15hrs. - Flight attendants are rude. No excuse me, pardon me. Nothing. They walk right thru you in the aisle. This happened roundtrip, so it wasn't just one flight attendant. - I get long haul international trip, everyone wants to be as comfortable as possible. But my god. The passengers are awful. Reclining seats weren't meant to recline till you're on my lap! This was almost 85% of the flight that I saw. - Meal time. They are always out of something. Either an entree or the HK milk tea. How come they weren't more prepared. - Domestic flights are limited to one personal item and one carry on. I saw multiple passengers with 3-4pieces of luggage. HOW?! Pros: - How many egg tarts did you have? Would I fly with them again? Possibly, but will not be economy. read more

Definitely worth flying with Cathay Pacific to Asia. I flew with Cathay to Beijing and back to the USA. The movie offering were great and up-to-date. It had some HK, Korean, and Chinese titles that were not being offered by Netflix, Amazon and other. Took my time to watch them to condition myself to switch the time for diminishing my jetlag. The meal offering of this company is amazing! In addition to the complimentary free drinks, a bottle of water, and a bag of cookies it offered full dinner and lunch/breakfast meals. They provide a menu with the choices available for each meals. I love the congee offering in the breakfast. In addition, it offered eggtarts and hot ramen noodles at you craving. Honestly, this has got to be worse international airline that I have flown. I purchased my round trip ticket based on the fact that they advertised the lowest airfare for the destination that I was flying to at the time. My online experience was not the greatest which should have been my warning but chasing a bargain I purchased my tickets anyway. When I encountered a problem with my ticket the customer service by phone was not great either. Then on my day of travel the service I experienced with the representative (Amona) at the airport counter was even worse. The counter representative instructed me to check my carryon bag instead of asking and gave me no reason why she asked this. When an another representative gets involved she rewords her request to me and this time she asks if I want to check my bag. My reply was "no I never did you told me I had to check my bag". The new representative smirks at my statement which confirmed to me that the first representative lied and I didn't have to check my carryon. The boarding process was chaotic because it's literally first come first serve. On board was no better. I pressed my call button during the flight because my entertainment system was not working and no one responded for over an hour. The seatbelt light was even off during the time I rang so there was no clear reason for the lack of response. Then in Hong Kong as I'm getting off the plane a representative directs to the transfer area even though I explained to her I was staying for a extended layover in Hong Kong before continuing to my final destination. She continues to tell me NOT to go to immigration and to go thru the transfer process. Only to be told I could not go thru immigration once I went through transfer. To resolve the issue I had to have the airline escort me to immigration. When I complained about the representative in Hong Kong insisting that I go thru the transfer process instead of immigration like I wanted. The representative at the Cathay airlines desk blamed me and said I shouldn't have listened to her. He also repeated this statement later to a few other passengers from my flight with the same complaint who were escort to immigration with me. SMH. My return was slightly better but based on my overall experience Cathay airlines will never see me or my money again! read more

I realize that airline reviews should really be contingent on location but I have nothing but good things to write about Cathay Pacific. They've done a good job in getting me to and from Asia in one piece, all while doing it with a smile. I've flown my fair share of international carriers and I admit I have a soft spot for Cathay given all the numerous good experiences I've had flying on their planes. The two things that stand out about Cathay compared to American domestic airlines is two things: service and space. Their staff is organized (#1) and vast; usually the transcontinental flights have a dozen or more staff members taking care of folks on the plane. The planes are usually Boeing 777-300, which are massive. Legroom is solid in basic economy, roomy in premium economy, comfy in business, and can be flat (#2) out ridiculous in first class. While almost all experiences were consistently good, they're not as stellar as other international carriers in the same space. Etihad and Singapore have them beat on amenities, food, service, and overall comfort. That said, I rarely would turn down a chance to fly Cathay given that their fares are competitively priced and there is a frequent number of direct flights to Asia. Given all that has happened during this pandemic, I can't emphasize enough how badly I want to fly with Cathay again. On Feb 8, Sat around 8:20-8:45p.m. We had a HORRIBLE experience, when I was lining up for the self check-in for the flight for the Cathay Pacific Airways with my family . A worker named Jenny told us "Don't line up it's useless, no one will help you guys, do it yourself over there" and we said we didn't mind waiting but they kept telling us to go over there. But we saw people getting help when checking in. When we went to check-in for the luggage's, I was talking to my family telling them that there are workers providing help, why did they say no one would help us then?Jenny heard our convo and said "yeah we do have people providing help" in a bad attitude then we said "why did you say no one would help us then? I saw people getting help, there are three workers helping" that were in a navy blue uniform. Then her coworker, Rainie came over and called us stupid quietly, so we asked if they just called us stupid, Rainie then yelled "yeah we are calling you stupid" So we asked why they're being so mean, they said "yeah we are mean like that" I felt SO shocked by this service that I have never experienced before coming here and I told them that I will file a complaint, Rainie yelled"I don't care complain however you want" in a narcissistic attitude. I asked them for their name tag and Rainie said " HERE HERE LOOK" while pulling her tag in our faces. After Rainie left I tried to let the situation pass but I had to file a complaint so other customers don't experience this, but Jenny said she can't let us see her name tag but she can tell us her name. I asked if she could bring me to see her supervisor and then she said "I am busy go by yourself" I went to find the supervisor myself and talked to the supervisor Johnny, telling him about the whole situation and the only thing he said was "we'll handle it" and then we left the check-in. When we were walking, we realized that they could've taken our pictures earlier because both of them had their phones out and we saw that it looked like they were taken a picture of us but we weren't sure so we wanted to check. We went back and saw the three of them talking, then I asked nicely to see if they took any pictures,Jenny and Rainie took their phones out, Rainer said "you don't have the right to see, fuck you" They put their phones in my face, shaking it around and the supervisor didn't even say ANYTHING after this. so I felt like they didn't care AT ALL and hoped that they really didn't have any of our pictures taken. I asked to file a complaint and he asked for the name of the customer, saying that he will handle it and report it to the manager, but based on his behavior it didn't even feel like he cared at all, so I wanted to file a complaint on my own and he ended up giving me the QR code where I would file a complaint. Cathay Pacific Airways, out of all others, has lost my luggage. A first in my little life. I flow from JFK to PVG in late March this year, via Hong Kong, of course. When I landed in Shanghai, one piece luggage was missing. After waiting and filing - it's a hell that evening in Pudong Airport ... the airport staff determined that it's lost and "will contact me." The last time I've luggage problem, was also with CX, in 2011 fm JFK to PEK. Luckily it's delayed and they delivered in a few hours shortly after, which was 2 am in Peking. My uncle had to wake up to accept the delayed luggage. This time, however, it was lost. Gone. First, there were multiple phone calls (to my relative since I don't have a Chinese phone number; as that really necessary?) and then the pvg sent me a 4 pages document to fill, claiming officially that it's lost. After I filled the lost items they asked for receipts, which I no longer have them. I don't keep receipts, especially grocery shopping. I normally travel with a carry-on only. This time my cousin asked me to bring some dog food which is only available in U.S. So I throw in a few bottles of wine and some skincare etc. to fill in that box. The dog food was for a party ... Aren't they handsome?! Then pvg referred my case to CX. Again, CX asked for my receipts. And said that they would only reimburse me 50% of what I've listed. Hell, that's so unfair. Even they reimburse me as I claimed, who's going to pay for the shipping of the dog foods??? "Would you pay for the shipping of the dog food from the U.S. to Shanghai?" They didn't reply on this. They caused me and my cousin so much trouble, inconvenient me for so long and then, they demanded receipts. Hell. Why can't you make things right and easy for your customer? The airline industry has changed so much over the years, I just can't believe that nowadays, an airline loses your luggage when everyone can manage to arrive early for their scheduled flight. I flew Cathay Pacific from Newark to Hong Kong. Service by staff members was top notch. The onboard amenities (movie, music, and more) were excellent with myriad selections to keep me occupied during the 15 1/2 flight out. The food (see photo) was excellent. We received dinner and breakfast, with snacks available in between. Takeoff and the overall flight were excellent. However, the landing gave me a bit of a jolt. As I forgot my water bottle, the only issue I had during the flight was the getting water. This was served in a small cup that I quickly gulped down, wanting more. This irked​ me continuously. Perhaps this was my issue for not having a water bottle but I know they were available for the ​business class. This aspect can be improved for overall customer sustenance. read more

What great things can I say about this airline? - A menu given before the flight start with all the meal options. - Touch screen entertainment interface. - USB charger for your devices. - A camera underneath the plane so that you can watch it takeoff. - All the latest movie releases, TV shows, music, and puzzle video games. - Haagen Dazs ice cream. - A timer countdown of when we're landing and our current estimate location. - Pillows and blankets! - Instant cup of noodles! - Fluent English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. I've traveled with Cathay for all 4 of my Asia trips. First time, I just went with whatever my company purchased, not knowing what other options there were but, after this very first time, I knew why we always fly with them... Excellent airline! As you can see from my previous review, I love them! There hasn't been a time I've been delayed, or any time I've had any complaint of any kind. Planes are always clean, and staff is always very professional, accommodating and friendly. They always have enough new movies, and many TV shows, to keep you entertain on your departing and arriving flight (nope, I still don't sleep in the plane). Always at least 2 meal options, including vegetarian, for lunch and dinner. Free wine and/or beer. Snacks, drinks at any time. Spacious overhead bins for your carry-on (and shoes - I always take them off in these long flights). Comfortable free earphones, and they always schedule the lights (on/off) to help you get your body ready to your destination's time zone. This last time they made me love them even more. There was a problem with my departing flight and I needed to get to HK that next day. My seat section was all sold out, and I would have had to wait until the next day to fly out, making miss a full day of appointments, including a morning flight to China. I explained my situation and the lady at the counter, Rachel, immediately got on the computer and put me on the stand-by list while she checked flights and options for me. The manager also came out and gave me a 90% certainty of me getting on stand-by but, I needed 100% so, they found a seat for me on the next section up, sent me to the ticket counter, where Michele worked quickly to set me up, and in time for me to get on the next available flight. Thanks to them, I was able to get to HK on time to keep my schedule without any problems, and all this they did very sympathetic, and when all was done, they smiled genuinely happy they were able to help. I am extremely grateful to them, because, for a minute there I was about to freak out. The rest of my trip went perfectly, without a hiccup, and I was happy to see them again on my way back home. This airline has become like home when I have to do these work trips (and, hopefully one day as a vacation). They are reliable, and show how much they care about their clients, and are aware that we fly long hours, most of us for business and are aware of our needs. I still don't know what other airlines I have as options to do these trips and, I may never find out. I found one that has gained my trust, and my loyalty, and I highly recommend them. I'm a fan of Cathay Pacific. I've flown both economy and business about a dozen times over the past 10 years and I've always had significantly better experience with Cathay compared to most American airline companies. After having traveled with many different airlines around the world, I'm more and more convinced that Asian airline companies generally offer superior customer service, especially JAL, ANA, Thai, Cathay, and Asiana. I know Singapore Airline too has a great reputation but I still haven't had the pleasure of flying on it yet! Being so sick and tired of all the crappy unhelpful customer service and the unpleasant "Like we care....not our problem, up yours" attitude of most American airline companies, I find it refreshing that the Asian airline industries still value each individual customers. Especially when I'm on a loooong 16 hour flight to Asia, I wouldn't want to be stuck with not only an uncomfortable seat and poor entertainment selection but also arrogant and unhelpful flight attendants that give you attitude every time you request something. American Airline and Cathay are in the same alliance so make sure you choose Cathay if you have enough mileage to fly to Asia! What I like about Cathay business class: 1) Well-trained flight attendants - Everyone's so friendly and attentive! They even know your name, impressive! 2) Hong Kong Airport has 3 major business lounges with a wide range of amenities(showers, business facilities, wi-fi, international newspapers and magazines, etc) and decent free food and beverages. 3) Love the 45° layout of the business class cabin!! This is how all the business class seats should be laid out!!! I have so many great things to rave about it!! This is my ideal seat because: * The partitions offer privacy * Every seat has unrestricted aisle access, which means you don't have to bother a person next to you to go to the bathroom. * Comfy seat transforms into a fully flat bed. * Seat is equipped with a relaxing massage!!!! It's just for the lower-back and not super effective, but still incredible that every seat comes with it!!! * Love the ottoman! It not only provides a foot rest but also a generous storage space for carry-on baggage! I don't have to stand up and open the overhead compartment! * Large personal TV with huge DJ headphone. Also the choice of entertainment is quite impressive. You can even watch Bollywood film too! * Each seat is equipped with AC power socket which allows me to charge my iPhone & iPod. *Useful bedside multi-directional light 4) The presentation of the inflight meal and drinks live up to the standard of what business class should be. The food can be hit or miss, and most of the time I am unimpressed with the taste. However, I must say their duck curry was one of the best inflight meals I've had! And also their cappuccino is the best inflight cappuccino I've ever had (most airlines don't even offer cappuccino anyway!). Only complaint I have about the Cathay is their inconsistent meal quality. OK, after reviewing Norwegian Airlines, I'm glad to review Cathay Pacific. I decided to fly Cathay Pacific to visit my parents in Asia this year. I usually fly Singapore Airlines. Both Singapore and Cathay airlines are quite similar in some ways and different in a few ways. When you get to JFK, the terminal is quite easy to check in. If you have checked in online, you can skip the line and just drop off your luggage to be checked-in. I flew Cathay Pacific before and tried their business class back in the 90s and of course, that was awesome! Why not? At the time my seat was on level 2, felt taller. This time, although flying economy class, the flight was still very good. The plane was 787 Boeing Dreamliner. Bigger seat, bigger bathroom, and quite clean. Oh yes, I got some pretty good movie selections and entertainment as well. For first class seats? Forget about it! It's too awesome to describe but I would try this first class next time when I win a lottery. However, coach wasn't bad at all. The flight was right on time, no delays whatsoever. In fact, I arrived in Hong Kong earlier than estimated arrival time. I had plenty of time before my next connecting flight to Malaysia. I requested Kosher meal. I wanted a seafood meal but they don't have just a seafood meal. However, they have a few good ones. Each time I order kosher meal on a plane, the menu is pretty big. That's the secret of a happy flight, go kosher! I got app, salad, side, dessert, and drink on a bigger tray and my main course always comes separately outside that big tray. I always make sure I eat well during my flight yay! The bathroom is slightly bigger and they keep it clean. Oh, btw please make sure your luggage is 20 kg (?) for check-in, not more than that. Receny, Cathay has relocated to Terminal 8, which is a big improvement in my opinion. The new AA lounge, along with flagship dining, are available to passagers traveling in CX first. I was skeptical about AA flagship dining but the food and cocktails were spectacular. If you are using miles and want the full experience, CX beats JAL out of JFK (given the lounge). If you don't care about lounge access, fly JAL. read more

* It happened again - wow! * Ok, I thought it was a fluke when back in April a flight attendant welcomed me on board by name before seeing my boarding pass (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/cathay-pacific-airways-richmond#hrid:0JTqnEEhZbTdRDkYAXqQ4A). At the time I concluded that I should take it as a sign I either: A) Look like a freak B) Travel too much I hoped it was B, but figured it was probably A. Well, it happened again on my latest Cathay flight from JFK to Vancouver. As I was walking onto the plane I saw a familiar looking flight attendant and she immediately greeted me by name and took me to my seat. This was without me showing her a boarding card. Still an impressive trick! But I'm still not sure if it is A or B though! The flight was a typical Cathay flight, which means the time flew by rather quickly during the 5 hour flight. They served supper which started off with a mesclun salad topped with a lemon pepper cured salmon. It was served with a sweet lemon vinaigrette. The salmon was nice, and I could pass on the vinaigrette which was a bit too sweet for my tastes. For the main they gave a choice of beef tenderloin, black bean chicken stir fry, rigatoni, roasted duck noodle soup, and wonton kailan noodle soup. I opted for the rigatoni which was served with a pleasant sage cream sauce that had some sun-dried tomatoes and toasted pumpkin seeds. Amazingly the pasta was actually cooked correctly. I'm always amazed when they can accomplish that on a plane since so many restaurants seem to fail at it on the ground! They had a more budget oriented selection of wine than usual (cost cutting?), of which I chose the Beringer Stone Cellars 2007 Chardonnay (what I would categorize as a value wine since it normally is quite inexpensive but still nice) which went well with the pasta sauce. They then offered a selection of cheeses (St. Paulin, Cambozola, and Aged Cheddar), fresh fruit (melon, pineapple, grapes), and a marble cheese cake with raspberry coulis. I just opted for the fruit and it was fresh and tasty. Tea and coffee service offered the typical Cathay business class selection of americano, espresso, cappuccino, latte, HK style milk tea, green tea, jasmine, ceylon, organic camomile, organic earl grey, organic peppermint, and hot chocolate. To finish things off they offered their typical box of pralines for you to pick from, which still had my favourite hazelnut one available. Nice! Later in the flight they offered up Haagen Dazs ice cream cups as well a little before landing. The video selections were good, wide, and current. Overall I wish Cathay flew to more places in the States from Vancouver (as I always do when I have a trip on other airlines in the States)! Cathay Pacific is a great airline and very dedicated to one's needs. However, be careful when you pick seats because if you sit in the middle or by the window, it's going to be very uncomfortable. Try to pick seats at least 48 hours before the flight so you don't have to feel awkward the whole time you're sitting. Otherwise, food is good and fills you up. The flight attendants also make you shut the windows every few hours so that other passengers can sleep for a bit depending on the time zone that is passing by. Entertainment selections are great and keep you entertained the whole flight if you can't sleep. Also, there is a digital map available if you want to know which direction the plane is flying and how much time is left for the flight. read more

As God as my witness, never again. Just never never. Boy, was I was super disappointed with Cathay. My husband and I flew the JFK - HKG routes in October 2012 and just on the basis of human kindness I thought they failed. Regardles of the class of seat I have purchased, 16 hours in the air should be better than that. I was 6 months pregnant and felt wildly under-hydrated and undernourished.The food portions are tiny and the snacks are dry and just wildly inappropriate (why would I want salty cup noodles when I know I can't get any water from you people?). Frankly, I get more food and drink and decency on 7 hour Virgin flights! Attempting to take a proactive step, on the flight back I actually bought a bottle of water in the aiport to take on the plane with me and they actually searched my bag and confiscated it despite my protests and protruding belly! I also found the staff to be discourteous and uninterested in servicing customers. Numerous times when I'd try to catch one of them to beg and plead for a mere thimble-full of water they'd breeze speedily by. Considering how tough this super-long flight is for all of us, we should really be one big family on there and treat each other right. If Cathay can't see fit to do that, then for chrissake at least give us a centrally located water fountain so we can stay hydrated and reasonably sane! What a way to fly, Coach OR first class! Making 17-hour, non-stop flights is not my idea of fun or exotic travel but if ya gotta go, go using Cathay Pacific. Planes are new, beautifully decorated, clean, roomy to accommodate passengers on long flights. Flight attendants will address you by name upon seeing your boarding pass and tend to remember it throughout the duration of your flight. Flight attendants are also somewhat stepford; being Chinese they all appear to be clones of one another yet beautifully outfitted in tailored, brilliant red uniforms, not a hair out of place, attentive to passengers. Leather chairs are comfortable for any airline and provide each passenger with his/her own video screen to track the flight's global location, to view a huge selection of current and newly released films, video games or use of an air phone. Food is provided constantly throughout the flight and if you still haven't had enough at meal times, you can always ask for hot noodles or walk to one of the galleys where baskets of shortbread cookies, chips and fruit are always available. This airline puts a lot of attention to the basic details that the U.S. airline industry did way back when, you know, before they lost site of the fact that CUSTOMERS matter. I am pretty pissed with them right now. I always take Cathay to go to HK/Sing, but this week they're pretty terrible. Because of a hurricane, they cancelled the flights- which is all well and good. HOWEVER, I have been calling them for the last 2 days every hour for someone to pick up the phone and either rebook my flight or give me back my money for this flight I NEVER WENT ON. I kept calling their reservation number which no one seemed to pick up. On the email they said call reservations or book by travel agent... Well I didn't book via travel agent i booked online, I called reservations and NOTHING. NO RESPONSE. I had a VERY important meeting to get to on the other side of the world and needed it REBOOKED ASAP... because the hotel's been booked, the car's been booked, the meeting is booked... nope, no one freaking picked up the phone for reservation changes. I get you're swamped with people calling in to change their flights but completely ignoring people doesn't help either. You lost a customer who always went on premium economy and or business. In October of 2011, Cathay Pacific Airways sent me a free Silver Membership for the Marco Polo Club because I travel relatively often (Hong Kong and Taipei once every seven months; or at least once per year). During September and October of 2012 and March of 2013, I flew to Hong Kong ("HKG") and Taipei ("TPE") again. My flight from JFK to HKG was upgraded from Economy to Premium Economy. I have heard that it's about a $600 difference. My review of Premium Economy is that although there is a different menu and the screen for the wonderful entertainment system is larger, it wasn't the touch screen that is available in economy. I still had to use the remote, which isn't bad, especially considering that the program itself has been updated since I last flew Cathay Pacific in March of 2012. (It must also be noted here that larger touch screens are just more difficult for aircraft and that is probably why Cathay still requires a remote). The seat itself was very large and comfortable for a 15.5 hour flight from JFK to HKG. The food was almost the same as in economy, and therefore, unless you are six feet two inches and 220 pounds like myself, you probably won't find the extra price worth it for Premium Economy. My flight from HKG to TPE was upgraded to Business Class. Great food, wonderful service, kind flight attendants - made me feel so welcome and happy. I even wished that my flight was longer than merely 90 minutes! Each seat gets its own overhead bin. The television was very, very large and the seat reclined into a flatbed. TPE back to HKG was again upgraded to Business Class. Same comments as above. My HKG to JFK was in regular economy. I love the new touch screen system! Cathay has also revamped the entire seat, now you can plug in your iPod, charge something via USB, and charge something via a normal outlet (outlet is by your ankles) simultaneously! So impressed! New storage space in the of me was a brilliant idea - I placed my charging cell phone there. Please note that at anytime, you may request a bowl of instant noodles or get up, go to the back, and get sandwiches, crackers, drinks, etc. Gin, Vodka, Wines, Scotch, Sherry, et al are all available in economy free of charge. You can also ask for Haagen Dazs ice cream. If you're too lazy to get up because you're in a middle of a movie, be sure to press the "call crew" button. The only better experience I've had in economy is with Singapore Airlines from Hong Kong to Singapore, but they've won accolades universally, so it's meaningful for me to say this - Cathay's experience is close to Singapore Airlines'! This is no doubt my favorite airline...friendly staff, beautiful plane, not bad food (the bread is warm :) and they give you mini milano cookies too!), multi-lingual staff with multilingual announcements, rolls royce jet engines,....also movies, music and TV shows of all genres and languages right in front of your seat, where you can watch whatever you want at your own leisure. I can't ask for a more pleasant flight back home from NYC, in fact, I look forward to catching up on movies on this flight back. I happened to bump into an acquaintance that works as a steward on cathay, but not in my section. He serves the business class (the best business class seats of all time, I heard they have back massagers in the seat and you can sleep horizontally too..not just first class). Anyways..he came over and brought me a banana chocolate pie...AWESOME! That was really good actually :) ....not to mention landing in beautiful BC in a beautiful airport :). read more

Quite sad that I prefer CX's service in economy over business class. I recently flew a r/t JFK-HKG, and am only willing to compliment the seat. It's generally very difficult for me to sleep on-board any aircraft, but that wasn't an issue here. The cabin was kept way too warm - not unusual for a carrier from East Asia - and the menu offerings scarcely reflected what I envisioned for CX. Though, I do have a weakness for the bread basket (specifically, garlic bread). IFE was a joke and the headphones might've come straight from just across the border in Huaqiangbei, Shenzhen (knock-offs galore). Also, there's no priority security for business class passengers at HKG, so wrap your noggin around that one. read more

Worst airline ever. I was delayed on the plane for an hour and a half waiting for late passengers to arrive. My headset and touchscreen tv were broken as well. I feel sorry for anyone who books with this airline. Its like flying in a dumpster. read more

Best airline ever!! Stewardess are always cordial, the new airplanes they have don't make your ear pop and head feel like its going to explode. Compared to the last time I flew with them to HK in 2010, the aircraft cabin space is higher which lessens the claustrophobic feeling. I can not eat airplane food as the smell makes me want to puke but I saw improvement this time. The smell doesn't exist anymore which leads me to think actually eating it is probably better as well. I would make it a point to fly with them again if going to HK. read more

I'm not going to give a huge review, I think Jewel Y. down below gave a great review on what the business class is like. And I haven't experienced business class outside of Cathay. But what I can compare is the economy classes. I think Cathay is a great great airline. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and they make me feel very calm and relaxed when they speak. Their entertainment is top notch with movies that came out like 2,3 months ago! And their food aint too bad either! I only have 1 bad thing to say, and thats their seats. Its fine when you're sitting up but when you push the button to lean back your seat actually just makes you slouch down! Its more like your sliding down and off your seat than actually reclining. It doesnt work for me personally because I have back problems so my back gets sore real easy. And its just not comfy to sit there for 15 hours flying from HK to NY. Thats really the only beef I have with Cathay. Great Airline! read more

Cathay Pacific has exceptional customer service and food. This is probably the first airline to have given me ice cream and a menu, nevertheless of what my meals are going to be ahead of time. I don't like to be surprised with food, especially with foods that I'm not comfortable with eating, Cathay Pacific ensures otherwise and it is highly appreciated. The ice cream is always from Haagen Daz (a trusted brand), and snacks are always given. If you're on a 16+ hour flight, there are three meals given, and they'll be ensured to make you full and happy. If you're not, you may request additional food or trade in your meal for another meal. There is also kosher, vegetarian, and halal food, I believe. read more

4.5 stars! Cathay pacific is an awesome airline. They have a kick ass entertainment system when you're flying international and their meals are pretty good. They also serve you ramen between meals at your request. The service is good and did I tell you their entertainment system is awesome? They have a lot of the latest movies and have TV series as well. They have both US series as well as Asian series (same for movies) and that's all you need. Each seat has their own little TV, and even has games for the young ones to play. It's all interconnected so you can actually play with others on the plane. I would also suggest you download their mobile app as it allows you to check in remotely amongst other things. read more

Went JFK to Hongkong at the end of March first class. The JFK first class lounge certainly does not auger a good beginning. Cathay uses the British Air lounge. My flight was a 10am and the lounge breakfast is a perfect vision of empire decayed. Tiny bready danishes and croissants, slices of hard pineapple and oranges, and a slow coffee machine. The lounge furniture was desolate! Since there were only 5 people in the lounge, everything gets stale. One couple went out and bought MacDonald's. I gave up and went to the Business class lounge where at least the food was fresher and a teeny more choice! Perhaps to make up for that, you get a lounge pass to use in Cathay's own lounge in Hong Kong. For the flight, it's like renting a small office cubicle with lounge chair/bed. Comfort and sleep for the 14 hour trip is guaranteed. When you want to sleep, the flight attendant makes the bed. There are all kinds of compartments for your carry on's and a tiny closet for jacket and pants. And you get a Pye pajama set in kind of a Mao suit style, wonderful material. The cubicle next to me was unoccupied so I could change in the spacious cubicle instead of the bathroom. Also very nice slippers. Amenities kit is poor, I left it because it just takes up space. Cathay entertainment and electronics support is unrivaled. There are endless number of movie channels alone, plus TV and other forms. Both ac and dc (USB) charging ports are available. The bathroom is immaculate. Service is excellent, they will cater to you at any time, for any need. Drinks and food are available on demand. Krug champagne and Johnny Walker Green are free flowing. They have these nice little dishes of nuts, but I only eat a little of that. I prefer not to eat much on a flight. So the booze and movies lull me into a half sleep half of the time and full sleep the other half. The food is now Cathay's weakness. Even in first class the food on the whole is mediocre. The main meals is served first on this flight. And they lull you with the caviar appetizer. I only tolerate caviar and I don't like it with champagne. The main entree is usually nothing to brag about. I don't know why the recent steaks have simply become a lump, they used to be juicy. I had the three lamb chops which were ok, at least not dried out. I know they cook it individually, perhaps it is the galley equipment which makes for the poor cooking. The veggies are done right, not overcooked. The bread is uninspiring. Dessert is good. Their cheese plate is simply not interesting. Best part of the meal is the wine. On this flight they were featuring a very nice Rhone, forgot the label. But that was excellent. I opted for the veggie lasagna as the second meal and finished that in no time again with the Rhone, probably drank almost the whole bottle. (There were only 4 passengers in the cabin and the others do not seem to drink red wine.) I'd really like to rate this flight 3 1/2 stars. The service, the hardware and the booze were really good. But how can they let the hot food quality go down so? Not too many years ago I would ask for second portions on Cathay if I am hungry. ??? read more

One of the better Asian airlines currently on the market. Airfare to and from Hong Kong is prerty good especially if you need to get suits tailored. They even have 3 flights a day, guess there is a lot of people coming abd going making the airfare more economical. Will fly them again on next trip. read more

Horrible service at JFK Terminal 8! My family and I have been flying Cathay Pacific all our lives and, as Marco Polo members, had to wait for more than an hour as a Marco Polo member. The regular line, which is much longer, was faster than the Marco Polo line. One receptionist tending Marco Polo customers all the while the same receptionist is pulled out of her station to assist first class and other stations! Extremely unprofessional and I will definitely NOT going to maintain our Marco Polo membership and will switch to other airlines that will provide better services. read more

Cathay Pacific: Excellent flights and service I just flew Cathay Pacific for the first time from New York JFK to Hong Kong HKG. I had heard that it had a good reputation, but one never knows, so I was looking forward to trying it. Here's what happened on both flights: - Even though they were 15-hour flights from New York to Hong Kong and back, the flight was either on time or even early. - Both flights were extremely smooth and the pilots handled the landings very well. A lot of pilots tend to have rough landings, but not these. - By far, the best part was the service: polite and courteous flight attendants, good food with good choices, and I noticed a lot of attention and care being given to families with kids and elderly passengers, just the way it should be. - The planes were new, Boeing 777-300ER, which are wide bodies and fly very well. The flights were extremely comfortable with minimum turbulence. On the flight back, I got a bonus, along with others. Those of us who were elite frequent flyers on One World got a free upgrade to Premium Economy, with larger seats and better food. The generosity of Cathy Pacific was heartwarming. All in all, I was very impressed. I wish all these obnoxious U.S. airlines with grumpy flight attendants and lousy customer service would learn that all passengers want is to be treated in a decent way as human beings as they spend their hard-earned money to travel. read more

I must say this airline really went far and beyond what I expected! In November of 2017, I flew to Japan with Cathay, with a layover in HongKong. I was nervous to fly at first, I mean the ticket prices were too good to be true..but the reviews I read scared me. I'm glad I was wrong, because this is probably one of the best airlines I have ever flown. Our flight left out of JFK around 1:30 am, with no delays. We flew straight to HongKong and received fantastic service from the flight attendants (pro tip- if you are hungry in the middle of meals ask for a ramen! You can have as many as you want and at any time during the flight). There was a good selection of movies, TV shows, and music of all genres to choose from. You are also provided a blanket and a pillow if you are flying international! Our layover in HongKong went very smoothly, as well as the second leg of the trip to Narita airport. Now for the good stuff!~ Going back home we missed our first flight by 30 min due to some unfortunate circumstances. But, the Cathay Pacific workers really helped us! They found us a new flight immediately that was leaving in a half hour. They quickly charged us a change of flight fee (only 900 something for all 3 of us) and a man personally lead us to the front of security, bag check lines, and through some corradores for staff only to get us to our terminal. We made it onto our new flight, and were able to actually get onto the second leg of our original flight due to the 5 hour layover in HK back to NY. Very impressed with this airline and will 100% fly again! read more

Amazing service! My wife and I flew from JFK to HKK in Business/First Class and I've never been happier! (We are 1K members on United so we travel a lot.) The flight attendants were very attentive and friendly. Unlike a lot of the other major airlines, Cathay Pacific's staff were almost happy we asked them for something...it's hard to explain, but was a great feeling! We are both looking forward to a trip that we have the option to book through Cathay Pacific - I highly recommend giving them a try! read more
