We came in for Valentine's Day and had a good experience. Service was good and attentive. The restaurant is on the water and they decorated for the holiday. The food was solid. We each ordered two sushi rolls getting four total. The presentation was a little rough, but the flavors were good and everything tasted fresh. We also enjoyed chicken dumplings and miso soup. Was really craving some fresh sushi since we were so close to the source, you know. Asiatico had good reviews and we wanted to be on the water. We came by before the dinner rush. Apparently we entered through the wrong door (halfway down the pier next to the "Open" sign, sure looked like an entrance) but no matter, we found our way to the host area. We were sat right away by the window and also next to the open kitchen. The restaurant appears to be mid-renovation perhaps, there seemed to be some partially complete new molding around the windows with sealing but not yet painted. Anyway, the view was decent, onto the deck and bay. It was sunny but a bit too cold and windy to sit outside. I saw that they had a bowl of water out there for anyone who had brought their dogs, so that's a nice touch. Anyway, our server was personable and friendly and let us know that it was her 4th day. You wouldn't have known it, she seemed comfortable in the place. We ordered pot stickers, and rolls (Mexican, Newport & Fire Dragon). It did seem to take a bit to get our food but they appeared rather busy with takeout and the dinner rush starting. The Mexican roll was our favorite of the three but none of them were particularly outstanding. I was not prepared for the warm sauce stuff on top of the Newport roll. I guess I didn't pay attention to the "baked" part of the description. And the Fire Dragon had nothing fiery about it, lots of salmon but was pretty bland. I usually don't have a problem finishing sushi but I found myself unimpressed. I give this place an extra nudge in stars due to the service. Our server was great and even comped us a beverage because she felt we had to wait too long for our food. One star for the view, really bad experience we typically eat across from this place at Thai food I really recommend that place. Went on Monday around 1pm not a busy time whatsoever, our order took some interesting time. We tried the Yakiudon Noodles, I received diluted Alfredo sauce instead of sweet & spicy sauce & noodles were chewy. (Not my cup of tea) We also order fried sushi smoked salmon cream cheese fish must've been thawed out and slightly frozen. It was supposed to be fried, typically slightly or warm when you get it, was cold. We also ordered spring rolls, this we're still half frozen. Service was really bad as well, we were never asked if we wanted a water refill. I just want to say, this is our personal experience we're not mad just disappointed. Went in with a party of 5 with a reserved table. We sat inside although there is an outdoor patio area overlooking the bay. This restaurant is divided into 2 areas, the front bar and the restaurant in the back. It's a little disorienting when you first walk in. The sushi and tempura were done well. Nigiri, sashimi and rolls were well presented and tasty. Tempura was fried well. However, some entrees were not what we expected. Chirashi was on a wide white plate with too much rice and not enough fish. Typically it's served in a shallow bowl with the seafood on top of a bed of vinegared rice plus ginger and wasabi. The bento box was a choice of 2 proteins plus egg rolls and gyoza. Again, you don't expect egg rolls and gyoza in a bento box and there was no rice. The quality of the food in the bento was not as good as expected. This feels more like an impression of Japanese food instead of the real deal. Service was okay but slow. Entrees did not come out all at once and getting the check and the accompanying receipts took a long time. We also didn't get a miso soup we ordered and the waitress had to come back and confirm one of the sushi orders after the first round of ordering. She was very nice though. read more

My expectations were lowered because this is a bit of a touristy area and it was the only Japanese restaurant locally. Our server was nice. It was quiet there. We had a nice view of the bay, but the food was subpar at best my wife, who likes Ramen didn't even eat her leftovers . I got a rice bowl with tuna poke. I asked for extra tuna, which I'm not sure whether I got or not with the food. The portions were a good size. But I've never gotten a Poké bowl before where it was basically some kind of seafood salad tuna mix that wasn't really whole tuna. Our server tried to make it up to me by giving me a discounted Tuna roll, when we were talking before we left. She said well you could've asked about the poke. Which is fair, but every time I ever gotten poke before there was always a raw tuna pieces is not the way it was prepared. FYI, there is a credit card surcharge of 3%. Plus, I would say be wary of some of the yelp reviews that sound to Rosy. I've seen them for a few other local restaurants here and I don't think I'm buying. read more

WOW. Our visit to Asiatico was absolutely delightful. Not only was the food fantastic, artfully plated, and plentiful, but we had a great view of the bay and setting sun next to an open window at our table. Such a serene and beautiful place to have dinner. We enjoyed a smorgasbord of menu items, including sushi, ramen, and oysters. Great presentation and flavor! The sushi was delectable and flavorful. Ramen portions with their accompanying side dish were larger than we expected, which was a pleasant surprise! Another pleasant surprise were the oysters, which were presented beautifully in little boats with a flower - they were the first oysters I've ever tried, and they were tasty! Some of their tuna is either straight up out of a can or these people need to stay as far away as humanly possible from fish. I've never been so let down by sushi in my life. Tried 3 different rolls and they were all pathetic in their own special way. The sign outside says it's some type of fusion restaurant but I didn't get that vibe from the menu at all. It's just really nasty, overpriced, mostly unseasoned rice rolled up on to itself with bits of thin, low quality fish, scales and bits of crab shells. Yum! Hahahaha In retrospect, I should have taken pictures of the sushi so that y'all could have at least seen how pitiful it looked, but originally I had no intention of writing this review. The shrimp & vegetable tempura was the only thing I ended up eating and it was a bigger portion than I expected, so that was nice. My boyfriend had some unagi nigiri and he said that was alright too, but I didn't try it. Come here for a beer. I think we were most disappointed with the service - it was extremely slow, our server was bringing us food we did not order and forgot half of what we did order. My boyfriend and I have made it a tradition to come to Asiatico when we visit Oregon. Our very first visit was February 2021 and we absolutely loved the food and service. We came back in July 2022 to enjoy the sushi and the view of the water. It's been pretty chilly both times we visited. Our favorite roll here is the Twisted X, which has bacon, shrimp, cream cheese, and smoked salmon. Great combo! Their pricing is fairly cheap for sushi, especially at a waterfront. Service is friendly and helpful. The food is delicious here! Whether you choose to sit indoor or outdoor, the experience will be great. Well...being outdoor, I'd be more cautious since there are lots of birds. But the view is great and you get to watch people go fishing or crabbing at the dock near by. read more

OOF. Made the mistake of going to Asiatico and from the looks of it, I'm not alone. Here's the good. Service - was very friendly and greeted me immediately. Even though she was starting to get a little busy and working alone, she was still attentive. View - amazing view of the harbor and plenty of seating. The bad: Food- the food was bad. I ordered an eel, spider and California roll. The eel looked like it has a smear of burnt eel on top and as underwhelming as it was visually, it had the taste to match. The spider roll was bland with obviously old and soggy broken crab legs hanging out. The california roll was for the kid and I didn't have any but imagine it's pretty difficult to mess that one up. Price - the cost of the rolls are pretty crazy. I get that you're in a great location, but the quality of food should still always reflect the price. If you want to serve mediocre sushi, just make it cheap and no one will be upset. Maybe/ hopefully I was there in an off night but the food wasn't close enough to warrant retrying it. Been here four times now for pandemic takeout and two times it's been absolutely, mind-blowingly fantastic and the other two times, it hasn't. The primary issue has been poorly-cooked rice. In a rice bowl, that issue is unavoidable. The other problem has been overcooked salmon. Beautiful location on the bay of Newport, at the very west side of Historic Bayfront at the end of a pier. The service was impeccable. The noise of the sea lions far enough away to make it pleasant. The food: Spring rolls (yumm, hard to mess up these things), agedashi tofu (a bit bland), seaweed salad, cucumber salad with small shrimp (delicious), fruit and veggie roll (we had a vegan in my group) was good with mango and avocado but a bit bland for my taste. Green tea. Mochi green tea (very very good) and mango mochi (too sweet). All said: full and happy belly but a bit more bland than expected. Went in last night with my two boys (6 and 2 1/2). Restaurant was empty, which can always be a scary sign, but there was no bad fish smell (always a red flag for me in sushi restaurants), and it was still early in the evening so we took a chance. Soooooo glad we did. The sushi was fresh and delicious, the vegetable tempura was the best I'd had in a while, edamame cooked to perfection and the fried chicken dumplings were crisp and not too greasy. They loaded us up with pickled ginger (the boys are obsessed ) and off we ran, pretty much licked our plates clean by the end. Wish I had pics to share but we ate it too fast. Between the great food and wonderful service (with 2 young ones there is always the chance of unruliness, but our server took it all in stride, even brought out little chopstick cheaters to help them with their chopsticks-made their night!), we will definitely be back! read more
