ASP of Springfield, VA opened our pool today. Michael Ellinger and his team mate Nicholai opened our pool and checked the serviceability of the entire system. They found a cracked faceplate for the Polaris pool cleaner and presented out options to fix or replace the existing system. A new wireless Polaris system was recommended and that we should purchase it on our own would be the fastest way to get a new one. Last summer was my first season with a backyard pool. I purchased America's Swimming Pool Company's year round pool care package from them. I've included a copy of what services were included in this package. The season started off OK, but overall, it did not go well. Visits were very short, with the cleaner often being here for only 10-15 minutes. I'd go look at the pool immediately after they left and find dirt and algae. There was one instance where the tech said that they came and I was going to be charged for the visit. I was home, I have a bell on my gate and a backyard camera. No one came. The tech's usually take a picture of the pool, but was told they forgot that day. It was way harder than it should have been to get this missed visit credited back. One other repeated issue I had was with the lock on my gate. The technicians could not remember the code. I had service from April through September and was still being asked for the code in September. Tech's were not allowed to save my gate code to their phones, which I appreciate for safety reasons, but one would think there was some sort of reference system from APS that the tech's could access the customer information from. On one occasion, the tech came out and then let me know they wouldn't be able to clean that day. This was due to thunder being reported - 20 miles away. That seemed a bit ridiculous as there was no thunder or lightning at my house or nearby. The final straw comes with the included email. I had reached out in February to inquire when someone would be out to do the 2 winter maintenance visits that were included in the package I purchased. I spoke with Anna and she said someone would be in touch. After a few weeks I followed up via email and requested a credit since it was now March. Apparently the services noted in the package I purchased were notional, and could be delivered or not at their discretion. I will not be receiving any credit, since they were "free." If I were to guess how I mistreated the staff, I assume it's in reference to me calling into the office when services were not delivered or sub-standard. It is also probably because I expressed frustration after being asked for my gate code in September while I was in bed recovering from double knee replacement surgery. I had to scream the code to my caretaker from bed to tell the tech, so I guess that wasn't very nice of me. While they fired me as a customer before I could fire them, I'd be wary of hiring a pool service that doesn't deliver all contracted services and responds to their customers in such an unprofessional manner. Yes, I complained and was frustrated at times by the quality and/or lack of services, but I certainly didn't do or say anything to warrant this kind of response. read more

They were our assigned service provider thru American Home Shield on our hone warrant and while I fell sorry for ASP Poole as they lost their entire staff from last year and are understaffed, Anna after two weeks did not contact Fluidra/Jandy. She made up stories about denials for the replacement parts.l from Jandy and AHS. She misinterpreted what I said and the experience as weeks are elapsing was excruciating. Nonetheless, I coordinated the parts that were needed with Fluidra/Jandy Pumps and then when I told Anna that the parts that ASP never got ordered were on the way - she got defensive and canceled the service work order with AHS. After two weeks this is the worst Pool company I have ever dealt with. I hope you choose a better firm or one that is competent and not rude and non responsive. We purchased a home with a pool 5.5 years ago. We couldn't get the pool under control. Through our insurance, American Home Shield, we were put together with ASP. They came out and checked everything over, we needed a new pump and filter. Once the crew got everything installed our pool was ready to go. We continued to use ASP for opening and closing and whenever we had questions. Well, this winter we checked on the pool and the pool was empty. I called ASP and spoke with James King. We have a vinyl liner and Our local ASP no longer does vinyl replacement. James called me and gave me the names of some companies and his recommendation. Working with pool companies can be scary. I had been using another company- I'll refer to them as A&S in Chantilly, for a few years and they had one good employee who seemed to really care about what she was doing and then one day I called to talk to her and I was told she was fired- that's what the guy on the phone told me! Anyway, I decided to look around at other companies and I saw a note on ASP's website that said they were veteran owned and they loved to work with veterans so I gave them a call, as a Navy vet I really appreciated that they advertised this. I met with Mark from ASP who came out to look at my pool heater as it had been clunking along for a while and I was replacing parts on it now and then but it stopped working well years ago. Mark made a recommendation for a replacement heater and he also took a general look around at the pool and asked if I knew my salt system wasn't working and I said yes, it was another thing that was a pain to keep working. Mark told me about a system that was pretty simple and cost effective and said he could install that when he replaced the heater so I decided to go for it. Mark and his co-worker showed up on time to install the heater, took care of everything I needed, opened the pool for me, installed the salt system and was extremely nice to work with. You can tell this company takes pride in what they do. I once called Mark because I thought I had some kind of issue with my suction pump and he diagnosed the problem in 12 seconds over the phone, told me what to do and the problem was solved. I told him I felt bad for bothering him and he said "don't worry about bothering me, call me any time at all". You just don't hear that very often these days. I'll be looking to work with ASP again in the spring as my tile work is getting old and falling apart so I'm hoping I get the same great service I got before- I'm sure I will. Last year I had ASP give me a quote for a patio, and they came in $65k which was roughly 3 times even the highest quote. I chose to use someone else and that is where the relationship began to go south. I needed to have my solar panel equipment (not the panels) fixed and after finding out from American Home Shield that the components won't be covered, ASP still came to my home to get an estimate and submitted it for a service fee without discussing it with me. This triggered a service fee to us. I had no idea they were doing this. Now after many previous bad experiences with ASP I needed to file a claim for a pool repair. I went on American Home Shield and filed a claim and it was immediately assigned to ASP. I had previously listed them on our do not assign to them list, and again it assigned it to them. I immediately cancelled the claim and called American Home Shield to put a claim in for a different vendor. ASP contacted them almost immediately and demanded that they were the preferred vendor for the local area, and that they were to be transferred the workorder. After ASP transferred the work order, then ASP called American Home Shield back to say that they did not want to work with us. I was told by AHS tonight that vendors do this, so they don't get points held against them for customers not wanting to work with them. So he demanded they take business from a pool company that actually wanted to work with us, only to call back later and say he doesn't want to work with us. Nice childish behavior. Super unprofessional. ASP will never get our business, and the more we are stuck having them in our lives, the more unprofessional the behaviors from ASP are exhibited. I would highly review google reviews, yelp, and your home warranty company for this business. As a company that promotes themselves as veteran owned business, but they do NOT treat Veterans very well. One thing I will say is that Mark their lead technician should remain as the face of this business because he is the ONLY employee at this business with work ethic, professionalism, and always seems eager to service customers. He is the BEST thing about ASP and I'm sad we don't get to work with him anymore because of the behavior of his boss. He was a joy to work with. I previously posted a review discussing the past 3 experiences I have had with them, however they were removed as YELP does when Business pay them to remove them. I hate having to post these types of reviews but having had multiple bad instances with ASP I felt I had no choice. Had issues originally trying to get in contact with someone last year, but decided to give them a try after someone reached out to me. Had issues with my pool opening due to my tarp not covering my pool well so it was very very dirty. It took longer than normal to clear up my pool which was understandable and bc of this crazy weather I wasn't in a big rush. Then Josh had come over on day and said might be ready the following Monday. I mentioned that I was having a baby shower on Saturday and if it was possible to have it clean by then. He didn't promise anything but came back 2 more times that week and by Friday afternoon it was Crystal Clear!!! This summer (2021) will be the fourth year that we have employed ASP of Springfield (James & Ellen King, owners) to open, close and perform weekly maintenance for our pool. We have been extremely pleased with their efforts and the resulting service. Early in our first year with ASP, Mr. King showed up at our house with the weekly maintenance crew. He explained that he likes to visit each client at least once not only to meet the client but to check out the pool for which his company is now responsible. We have a saltwater pool. Two years ago our very expensive salt chlorine generator died. Mr. King was instrumental in persuading the manufacturer that the warranty was still in effect and to provide a replacement at no cost. When a couple of employees left the company we learned that hiring replacements was going slowly because "Mr. King was very particular about who he hired." That shows in the excellent service provided by ASP employees. ASP of Springfield employees know their jobs and frequently go beyond what is required. Just one example: the ASP crew had finished the weekly maintenance including blowing the leaves and debris off the pool cover and patio and were getting ready to leave when they decided to take another pass with the leaf blower just to get the few newly fallen leaves off the pool cover before they left. They always email a thorough maintenance report after each visit. ASP of Springfield's excellence continued in 2020 with the opening of our pool on April 1st. Within a day the water was completely clear. If you are looking for a new pool company to take care of your pool, we recommend this company without reservation. read more

I strongly recommend against using ASP for pool maintenance. On May 11 ASP came and opened my pool. They removed the cover, got the pump running, and put in chemicals. However the pump was not effectively drawing water. The maintenance technician said he would report it to their service department so someone could come check it out. In the words of the job report he sent me, "I'll let my services department know the situation and see if we can get someone out here as soon as we can." I was charged $425 for this service. Two days later, having not heard anything from ASP, I called them. At that point, I was told that ASP couldn't handle the leak detection, and that I should call American Leak Detection. The first availability American Leak Detection had was on the morning of May 24. They came out and discovered the skimmer line was collapsed. This cost $350. I promptly called ASP to schedule repair. I was told that they were working on their schedule and they'd call me that evening. No one called that evening or the next day. On May 26, I called ASP again. I was told that the person I had spoken to was on a job site, but that he would call me back. No one called me back. Two days later, I called Millenium Pool, and someone came out the same day to perform an estimate. Unfortunately, Millenium's schedule was such that it was another 3 weeks before the job could be done. By the time it was finished, our pool had sat uncovered with no circulation for so long that getting it clean has taken quite a bit of work. Had ASP actually bothered to respond and get the job done this would not have been the case. It was finally swimmable on July 1. I still never heard back from ASP. Needless to say, I will not be using them again. read more

World ending emergency: My pool pump failed right before Independence Day weekend!! Lucky for me, my home warranty company picked my pool company, ASP of Northern Virginia, to come fix! Mark the technician came out within 24 hours and pronounced my pool pump quite dead. Despite the current state of the economy, Mark provided me with a variety of options for replacement and worked with the home warranty company's credit for replacing the pump. Mark looked at my set up, explained my options and the costs, and was back in 48 hours with my replacement. He knew the weekend was coming and worked hard to get my new pump installed for my family. We were equally impressed. We obtained several quotes. His rates were very competitive. But more importantly he impressed us as being an honorable and dependable person. I stumbled across ASP through a home warranty claim last summer (2018). That is when we met one of the service managers, Mark Peterman. We struck up a conversation about a host of topics including potential ideas of making our pool system function more efficiently. That is where it ended for the season as we already had another pool maintenance provider. Separately, we have a kids pool that was converted to a koi pond (about 3,500 gal) by the previous homeowners. The pond equipment is similar to the regular pool. After reattaching the pump and other equipment we realized that we had more than one significant leak and could not run the system. I called Mark directly to explain the time-sensitive nature of our issue because of the koi. To my surprise, Mark recalled the service call from last summer and other specifics from our conversation. Despite his already busy schedule, Mark made a point to come out as soon as possible. In fact, he shuffled his schedule and arrived a day before our agreed upon appointment. Problem solved and we have happy Koi! Needless to say, my wife and I are more than impressed with the level of professionalism and service by Mark and ASP. In fact, just today, we signed up with ASP to be our service provider for 2019 and beyond. read more
