Dr. Reyes is very proactive in her approach, for which I am grateful. When the dental hygienist said I had periodontal disease, I said, but the dentist I saw less than a month ago said nothing! Dr. Reyes explained that her approach is more of a 'nip it in the bud' method rather than wait until it's much worse. I visited this practice for a routine dental cleaning, something I've done every six months for years. Instead, I was told they would not clean my teeth unless I first agreed to cover $1,900 in gum disease treatment. When I asked why, I was told it was a matter of "liability". This is puzzling, since my previous dentist, who treated me for more than 30 years, never diagnosed any significant gum issue. Even setting that aside, it's unclear why a routine cleaning would need to wait on this treatment, given that cleaning itself is beneficial for gum health. I was told word for word to "suck it up, that's was tylenol and ibuprofen are for". Office staff actively tries to prevent you from speaking with anyone and refuses to give any information. Dentist wanted to charge me $300 for post-surgery care instructions! Aspen Dental is the most unprofessional, over charging, stuck up dental office I have ever seen. They overcharged us by hundreds of dollars, wouldn't rectify the situation until our insurances lawyers got involved, and wanted to do thousands in work that wasn't needed. Their traveling endodontist (some lady from new braunfels) tried to rework a root canal I had done a few years prior and botched it. Come to find out, what she was seeing in the scans she claimed was an abscess was a post from the first root canal, which she didn't know was there (had she checked my medical file it would have told her just that) and what she did allowed an infection to creep in and spread. Now I have to have this tooth pulled, have a bone graph done, and an implant. I've seen two other dentists about this now and both agree, the cause is the work I had done with aspen. I've also since learned they are notorious for A.) over charging and not rectifying the situation, and B.) telling you that thousands in work needs to be done when it doesn't because they have quotas to meet. I went to the Kerrville,TX Aspen Dental. It's in my city, so close , accepted my insurance, and I needed a chipped front tooth repaired. This was Monday, February 24, 2025. I got the full Xrays, and the hygienist came in, showed me 2 teeth,(of which I was aware ) that were loose, showed me what he claimed to be very bad peridontal disease, told me my bone was pretty much gone and he was advising a treatment plan to prevent further damage. So I was open to that but he then left the room and Dr. Reyes came in. She went right to all your teeth must come out, never addressed my chipped tooth, or alleged treatment plan. I said I can't afford all of this as she was pushing implants. Then she brings in the financial guy, and she's asking me what are "my goals", whatever the hell that means. She sends me into a room with this guy and I make my husband join me. he proceeds to quote me a price of $36,000.00 for implants and then when I say that's not happening, he tells me about the 4 levels of full dentures and when it's all said and done and with my meager insurance discount the final price down to $8,500.00. I said I'm not committing to anything, sure enough I go home and contact my former dentist, he said to have them send the X rays to him via email and he would have me in and consult. Well, the very next day I signed the authorization to do that very thing, on Thursday I went to my former Dentist and he said there is no way your teeth have to come out, only 2, and then I will add 2 teeth to the existing partial you have. He also repaired my chipped tooth. I will be back on Tuesday to his office to have those 2 teeth extracted, this entire procedure costing $1258.00. I am wondering how in good conscience the unethical scammers at Aspen Dental can even look at themselves in the mirror. They could have destroyed my health, my self image, and ruin me financially. I know Kerrville is considered an affluent community, full of seniors, of which I am one, but we are far from wealthy. How can you tell someone all of their teeth, and bone must be taken out just so you can make some money off of them. I have been seething over this all week, and will not be getting over it anytime soon. I tried to see what grounds I needed to lodge a complaint with Dental Board and it seems these people operate just under the wire for getting into trouble. Horrible experience. Left in tears. Went in with horrible toothache due to a fracture tooth. After an exam for over an hour and was determined to have a healthy and clean mouth, they would not fix or schedule to fix broken tooth(which is why I came there) unless I first had them do a cleaning. I explained that I was in pain and needed it addressed first as that's why I was there and my funds were limited as I'm paying out of pocket. Refused to help me. I am a previous Aspen Dental customer, had great service from the hygienist to the dentist, even the receptionists were always nice and caring at my previous Aspen location visits. Don't expect this Aspen Dental to care about you as a person. I rescheduled my appointment for 6:30 because I am a teacher in San Antonio I told the lady on the phone I need a late appointment. I confirmed 3 times with her on the phone for my 6:30 appointment before ending the call. I show up at 5:50. The receptionist tells me my appointment was scheduled for 5:30 and there is no way my appointment was scheduled at 6:30 because their latest appointment is "always" at 6... Being 20 minutes late to an appointment that was mis-scheduled on their end means they cannot see you, even if you are still there before their supposed "last" appointment time and there is nobody waiting in the waiting room. After confirming my appointment via email and text over the previous week, the office texted me to say that my appointment would need to be rescheduled (a few hours before the agreed-upon meeting time). When I called to reschedule, the receptionist told me I was never scheduled on that date. After I insisted I had been scheduled on that date and mentioned that I had text messages and emails verifying this statement, she located my original appointment in their system. Henceforth, rather than explaining what had happened, staff alternated between calling me a "no-show" and saying that I had ignored three phone calls verifying my appointment (though the office never tried to call me; they only sent the aforementioned automated text and email reminders). After this experience, I found it difficult to trust their staff to provide honest, patient-centered care. I contacted Aspen Dental because of a dental (gum) emergence. they advertised emergency care so arranged an appointment to be schedule. A representative called and moved my appointment up. upon arrival I completed 15 to 20 minutes worth of paperwork which asked personal health questions. I several time indicated I wanted them to look at the problem area which I was having substantial pain. I also told them I had a dentist I use and he recommended me to seek some assistance since he my dentist is 3.5 hours away. Upon being called to be seen they started wanting to take a full set of x-rays. I again stated I didn't want anything done except for someone to help me with my pain. The nurse or attendant got the business manager and I explained to him my concerns and only wanted that looked at. His answer was consistently was it was the standard of care that they do a complete set of x-rays. I repeatedly ask for just my concern to be looked at. He said the dentist had procedures book and probably couldn't see me until the next day. I asked for a referral in which he was no help. I left stopping by the front seat and told them to delete all my personal information. Why would a Aspen Dental advertise for emergency care and not provide said services. Aspen Dental is more about making money than patients care. I have good insurance so money isn't issue with me. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. After they x-ray you, and talk about all the things you need that you don't, their sales person hands you a bill; mine was over $4500 for periodontal cleaning I didn't need and 3 replacement crowns that didn't need replacing. The Dr and literally everyone else was amazing however I was lied to about cost.. which I had to pay upfront for .. and once I get back to the room this morning I'm asked to pay DOUBLE WHAT ID ALREADY PAID FOR THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HAVING 4 teeth pulled and I needed 5 teeth pulled !! One tooth somehow DOUBLED THE COST?? Whoever the person is that's managing the blonde short haired girl in the financial handling really needs to reconsider another worker. I even have a print out of the original cost and of course keep all receipts. And I understand with insurance and cost and all that they are merely quotes but 1- literally DOUBLE COST?! Almost $1000 for 5 teeth whenever each tooth is $85 ?? I'm just lost I guess and she made me feel like I was wrong leading to my 2- she was the rudest person I've ever dealt with!
