In all fairness, we had a party of 12 with reservations. The server asked us to be patient as they were busy and didn't have enough help. Fine! We were not in a hurry. But, we were there over 4 hours. We were not given a cocktail menu nor a special menu. A few had their "signature dish" that was dry and tasteless and the crab in it tasted "old." Orders were wrong! Checks were wrong! One man's dinner order was wrong and when he complained, he was told, "Well! Don't ever come back here!" REALLY?!?!? That's just WRONG. We have been going here for at least three years. However, on our last visit, we found the quality of the food very poor. The pasta fagioli was a disgrace for an Italian chef. It looked as if it had been made up when ordered from canned beans and a slightly tomatoey broth. It was watery, tasteless and had no vegetables in it. To top it off, the crackers were stale. We also ordered a cheese steak, which was not up to par. On a previous visit, we had ordered veal Marsala. The veal was hard, almost as if it had been cooked, then reheated. Just finished our takeout dinner. Four meals. Chicken Francese with linguine, eggplant Rollatini with angel hair pasta, meatballs with penne, and a crabcake sandwich with french fries. My fiancé and I dined here today for dinner. He had the the Braised Short ribs over mashed potatoes. I had the flounder with artichoke. Our appetizer was the fried calamari and as part of our dinner I had a side garden salad and he the cream of mushroom soup. Pros: our server was really great. Very attentive and polite. The food, DELICIOUS! Everything about the short ribs was spot on. They were very tender and flavorful. My founder was cooked perfectly. The cream of mushroom soup was savory and hearty. Very satisfying meal. Cons: Although they require a reservation for guaranteed seating, it isn't clearly indicated on their website. I checked several times. They were able to accommodate us at the bar which is fine but I would have preferred to sit at a table. Note: if you need same day reservations, our server recommends calling before 4pm the day of for an evening table. Also the braised short ribs were more expensive than what was indicated on the menu. Which I found to be a little uncomfortable. He did tell us when we ordered about the difference but I still found it to be a little uncomfortable. Overall it really wasn't bad experience. The restaurant has a great family feel that I found very pleasant. We plan to return soon (this time with a reservation). owner is rude. terrible service. My husbands food came out with the wrong order after waiting and other people around us that arrived after us received their food. When telling our waitress to cancel his order and we would share, the said "owner" came out and made a scene in front of everyone instead of talking to us quietly. We asked for a box to go and instead of just doing this she continued to go on. We left very unhappy. Not to mention the waitress made huffing and puffing noises when I asked if a drink that was a moitjo could be made into a mocktail since I was pregnant. Once we moved to Northampton this was the top spot that everyone recommended. Finally got to visit there Saturday night and had a wonderful meal. It was very busy so glad that we made reservations. The special app was Barrata cheese over a crostini which was delicious to pair with a glass of wine. The seafood crepes were wonderful and unlike anything ive ever had before. The sauce they were in was creamy and amazing! I dipped my bread in it afterwards. The gnochi was largely petitioned and came out super hot (big positive). There was a good amount of seafood in it and the gnochi was perfectly cooked. The meal came with a salad and bread. I left here full & happy! read more

Overall, an average restaurant (hence the 3*). Prices are high, food is bland. We ordered crab cakes that came out room temperature, fish and chicken overcooked in some of our entrees. Pacing of courses was also off--we ordered appetizers and entrees. Appetizers came out after about 25 minutes, side salads 30 minutes later, and then entrees another 25 minutes later. Realistically not a huge deal but when pricing is as high as it is here I expect a better handle on proper cooking and pacing. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and very good at her job, so it's definitely not a front of house issue, my guess is that the kitchen was a bit backed up. If the food was better I would try again to give them another shot, but there was minimal flavor in our dishes. Restaurant is also dark due to mood lighting, I noticed that customers at several tables had to use phone flashlights to see the menu. As mentioned, it is a very average restaurant. Definitely not the worst Italian food I've ever had, but given the pricing I expected more. I personally wouldn't return but encourage you to try for yourself--maybe it was just an off night for them. read more

We went to assante on July 1 2023 for our 58th anniversary . We ordered 2 drinks and then placed our meal order. About half of the tables had people at them. We ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. While waiting for our appetizer a few tables had been taken. Two of the tables got their entrees and finished eating and we were still waiting for our appetizer. Finally it came. Now the waiting began for our salad. Well I am not sure how that took but more customers came in and got served. Finally the salad came, was never asked if we wanted another drink or anything. We ate our salad and the wait for our entrees started. Never saw the waitress at all.Still not asked if we wanted another drink or anything. We had no drink and we drank all of the water and still no waitress or food.In the mean time other tables were being served and taken care of by other waitresses . When the food finally came she dropped it off and left and never returned. After finishing our entrees we waited quite a while and no waitress. Finally I asked another waitress where our waitress was. She didn't know but she put our left overs ina to go container. Then she found our waitress for us. Her name was Hope!!.She never asked us how our meal was or anything. Gave us our check and left. We paid and was leaving when the people leaving in front of us got to the restaurant about 1.5 hrs after us. The food was good but the service was horrible. That was our 58th anniversary meal. I left a review several years ago, at least 5 about the restaurant. It wasn't a good one. I was thrilled to have found a rest. with real Caesar Salad dressing, except, he lied to me, after asking if it was legitimate. I took a friend there to eat, thinking the other food would be good. Looked like a typical Italian Rest. menu. The mushrooms were canned. Don't expect canned mushroom at a rest. with that type of food. Here is the real kicker. I called last night to order something to go and the head/boy/bartender...the son of the family party, gets on the phone to let me know because I had made a bad review they would no longer be serving me. I assume life goes on once you are rejected by the Assante family. but beware they are a bit petty, as Italian can be (tiny little ego's). I grew up in an Italian family and the son's for some odd reason, tribalism usually, get special treatment. I offended his little ego. When someone makes a review highlighting that they lied and are serving crappy mushrooms from a can, you thank them for letting you know and you move on. He, they, apparently cannot do that. We do not always deal with adults in our day to day....this is Italian male fragility, acting like a hurt little boy. The food is OK...typical Italian but don't be such a baby that you cannot take the truth when you lie and use piss poor ingredients. read more

To be fair, the food here is pretty decent. The red sauce was a shave too acidic for my taste, but not too much so. I had the Chicken Parmesan with wedding soup and a salad. The service was a little slow, although our waitress had a large table in the front room (I get that sometimes). The ambiance needs a desperate facelift. The building is old/tired to begin with and quite dingy. $92/with the tip for three of us (no desert, no alcohol). I just can't get used to paying these increased food prices. My other pet peeve is that now you see "suggested" tip ranges from 18% to 25% using the final amount + tax in the final calculation - with no noticeable difference in service. So I'm already paying more for the food prices, the wait staff now wants 18%-25% tip on top of over inflated food prices and they lump on the tax in the calculation of what the suggested tip should be. Should I be tipping the government too on top of everyone else? I had a soft spot in my heart for the service staff during covid, but that ship has sailed. read more

This has always been my favorite Italian Restaurant in the area. The staff & owners are beyond friendly, the portions are huge so I always have leftovers for lunch the next day and the restaurant is beautiful. It was recently remodeled inside and has a huge bar which they also serve food at. The beer selection is also good if you like craft beers. Recently I visited with my husband, 2 kids (ages 2 & 4) and my parents. The kids portions are even big enough for leftovers. The kids had the Cheese Ravioli, I had the Penne Vodka (absolutely delicious) and my husband had the Gnocchi Bolognese (which he ate in it's entirety at the restaurant). You get your choice of soup or salad and everyone gets bread with a pesto sauce to start. I had the raspberry vinaigrette for my salad and it was truly the best I've ever had. This place has good food, is always super clean and the staff is always friendly! I come here about once a week and have found their food always good, fresh and consistent. The family is friendly and do a great job. Parking is what it is, but there is plenty more to be found behind the main street businesses. I have found prices to be fair as well and although Mark D review was a bit critical, this "local" is very well traveled and I find the food extremely well prepared and tasty.
