Restaurant was really chilly- ceiling fans were making it worse. We asked to have them turned off. They turned off 1 of 2. Served raw oysters with KETCHUP- who does that? Had to ask for horseradish. They were good, best part of the visit Haddock on the fish and chips was thin. Soft shell crab was cold when it was served. Drinks were reasonable. Tried Crabcake ordered by someone in our party, nothing special, calamari app ordered by another was light and crispy but very small portion for the price compared to other restaurants. This was our first time here after friends were raving. 1 regular size draft, 1 regular size cocktail, 6 oysters, fish &chips sandwich. Soft shells crab sandwich no fries: $72 Underwhelming. I don't know where to start about this place. Being the "sister" restaurant to the Shrimp boat, I had expectations. Not high ones, just good food ones. Sadly, they weren't met, not even close. First- they use imported crab meat. The crab meat itself smelled very fishy. They tasted like Indonesian crab meat, which has a particular taste. I can say without a doubt, this crab meat was not from the US. This could have been covered up a bit with a good recipe, but the crabcake itself just tasted bad. Stuffed fish was equally as bad. Very fishy, obviously frozen fish and cheap crab. I cook frozen flounder at home all the time, this was just that. Frozen flounder poorly executed. For $31, it was a complete rip off. Not to mention, the frozen green beans came to the table, STILL FROZEN!!! Legit first one I picked up was cold and hard. ‍ How? The fried shrimp were the only thing worth eating. Not butterflied or cleaned, just simply shelled and battered. Sometimes that's all you need. Coleslaw was OK. Nothing special. Fries, ehh. Not many places in OC do good fries. This crab house came highly recommended on Ocean City Foodies. We drove from North OCMD to assateague crab house for the AYCE crabs. It was a bit of a trip to get there so just give yourself time. We usually go to OCMD late August so it's less crowded, which we love. This was a large crab house that what we're used to in OCMD. The prices here were lower for the AYCE crabs so we were pumped. The crabs were a decent size for the AYCE and you can ask for butter and vinegar. My sister, mom and myself all did the AYCE crabs so they came out 12-13 at a time initially then went down to 8-10. You definitely have to ask for more and they're not as proactive as other places but the food was definitely delicious. I would recommend the trip! read more

I took my dad to Assateague Crab House for Father's Day. It was a very nice spot, close to our campground in Berlin. We were lucky to find a table as soon as we walked in. We were greeted by the front lady, and we had a very welcoming and friendly server. It was very quiet for a Sunday, with a very laid-back atmosphere. We started with appetizers: the crab dip was very tasty in a warm, perfectly baked bread bowl. The raw oysters were large and super fresh. I have to say the calamari was overcooked and very crispy, almost hard to taste. We ordered the dinner for two with a lobster, which was amazing! We came here with our family this summer for my husband's birthday. We've been here a couple times before and I've gotten the dozen crabs and the seafood feast for 2 before and they were somewhat decent. I don't know what happened to this place. I got the stuffed scallops and my husband got the stuffed shrimp. Both were ridiculously salty. I think they were trying to cover up the taste of the food with it. The scallops tasted very fishy like they were old and they were kind of yellowish grayish. It should be a nice white color if they are fresh. I had to force myself to finish it. On top of that it's definitely overpriced. It was $36 and I think I only got 4 scallops, and the imperial was mostly filler. The coleslaw had no taste also. I think the best part was the green beans and my drink. It was a shame because my parents picked this place for my husband for his birthday and we were disappointed. I wanted to get the all you can eat crabs but my parents didn't want to wait for me to eat them. Maybe the crabs are better than the rest of the menu. They were two generously sized cakes without all kinds of filler. Very well seasoned still being able to taste the crab. Very moist and hot all the way through. My husband ordered the salmon. Food is decent however I was in desperate need for a good margarita. It was 4:50 when I got there and happy hour was from 3-5. It was served in crunchy sourdough bread bowl along with some water crackers. Creamy and topped with some cheddar cheese, this was fabulous! I ordered the seafood platter. I'm not a fish eater, but I usually try it to see if I've changed my mind, because preparation can be everything. Well, the preparation was wonderful! Smelled no fish, tasted no fish. It was seasoned perfectly and buttery. Loved the scallops, shrimp and crabcake which I knew I would love! Hubby ordered the trio which was 3 hard crabs, a nice lobster and half of a snow crab. Here you will receive a very friendly and casual welcome to one of the BEST seafood houses I've ever been too. We were Greeted at the door with maybe a 30 min wait. ( that is expected at any restaurant at dinner time in a resort town - Especially if the food is worth waiting for ) - We ran into friends while in line and made a few new ones as well. Our wait-time was spot-on, We were seated by the hostess and greeted by our Server Rachael. We felt as if she was our personal waitress. She was very friendly and kept us in Drinks, and refills on crabs. Rachael even talked us into Desert ( Apple Crisp with Ice-cream - to die for ). The Entire Staff at Assateague Crab house all have a warm smile and pleasant attitude. ( even when 1 bad apple wanted to yell like a little kid not getting his way last night because he was not seated exactly on time. ) - I got to witness that front row. The kids meals worked out for my kiddos The cream of crab was pretty good. It had great flavor and a sprinkle of old bay on the top. Crab cake was a little on the small side, good flavor, nice chunk crab meat with a little filling. The green beans were savory and the applesauce hit the spot. Service was a tad slow. The broiled seafood was pretty bland. Tasted like it was pulled out of the freezer and lightly steamed. The shrimp and broiled filet were mushy. It was overall underwhelming for a restaurant that specializes in seafood. The lobster was delicious, but the crab legs and blue claws were overcooked. Nothing was super terrible so we didn't say anything, but it wasn't a place we would run back to. Also, maybe not important but it might help others with disabilities or extra junk in the trunk: they have the absolute most uncomfortable metal chairs. Great for an end-of-season meal, with plenty of walk-in availability and extra meaty crabs before the restaurant's season closing in October. The crab dip was rich and creamy, and the seafood platter for two could have easily fed three. The blue crabs and clams were easily the best part of the meal - sweet and flavorful, and seasoned just right. The seafood dinner for two also comes with snow crab legs (just fine - maybe opt for the lobster tail instead), sides (your standard corn and cole slaw), and a bunch of tasty jumbo shrimp to slather in your choice of butter/cocktail sauce/old bay or all of the above. The restaurant is clearly understaffed in the off-season, but food and service were still great overall. I'll definitely be back for the next season reopening in May! read more

This is the obvious stop for crabs after Assateague, but I hope there are better crab houses around. Service was fantastic, but everything we had was overcooked and my drink was weak. I started with an orange crush but it wasn't strong or all that tasty. The steamed shrimp and trio platter were both overcooked, though there was plenty of seasoning, which I appreciate. I felt like the seafood just needed a minute or two less in the steamer. Green beans and corn were really good, but that's not why you go to a crab house. Came here after the end of our camping trip in Assateague as we were craving for seafood. We came on a Saturday during lunch and were surprised that the place was empty. The restaurant is very spacious with inside and outside sitting. They are also dog friendly which is always a plus. There is plenty of parking and it's located in the same "plaza" as another business. Our waitress was very friendly and sat us by the window which had a nice window to their outdoor sitting. For lunch, we ordered the seafood platter and the fish and chips. They food did take about 20 mins to come out even though we were the second customers of the day. Oh man where to start. How about at front of house. Staff seem confused about seating. Swamp wasp or aka mud dobbers every whare then once seated it was attack of the flies. Witch only means one thing filthy breeding grounds everywhere. Ok now the food sad but true. Came with my sister and her best friend for dinner last night. They have a sign warning you about a lack of employees and our server was certainly working his butt off. We had crab dip to start which tasted good but needed a little more crab and the rolls could have been toasted for a little crunch. I had a half dozen medium crabs and they were super heavy and some of the best crabs I've ever had! My sister had the broiled seafood platter and everything was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! They totally discriminated against a disabled veteran and his service dog. We were told we could eat outside. My husband can't eat in the heat. We were finally given a buzzer to wait. As we waited, a group of 4 people came in. Asked how long the wait was and they took them right back to a table. When I inquired, I was told to turn on my buzzer and leave. They were taken because they were a party of 4. We were a party of 3 with a service dog. The manager was rude just because I asked why we weren't taken before them as we had been waiting.
