Rusty Jimmies!! The quality of the crabs were spot on. I ordered 1/2 dozen and we got a few extra on the house of the medium/large for dinner (dine-in) and they were heavy crabs. There's smaller and much larger sizes. Medium/large are just right for me. Captain Chris served us. Caught the crabs earlier that morning.Fresh. Sweet meat. Even explained about how to tell which crabs are mature, heavy, and worth serving. Very selective and focused on quality. This is exactly what we were looking for. Prices were reasonable too. Restaurant opens at 5 pm for dinner. Worth the wait because these crabs are delish! I actually came back the next day and ordered a dozen to take home. So nice, they threw in extra crabs for us. The restaurant is run by his family. Mom bakes the cornbread and banana bread. Call ahead. Her breads sell out. It's little dine-in brown paper on the tables crab restaurant. Very family friendly. In fact, the walls are lined with crab pictures kids and patrons colored. You can even buy t-shirts there. They've been around for at least 10 years. We stumbled upon this place thru google search because the crab place we used to go to went out of business. I wish I knew about this place sooner. We come here every summer for the delicious, fresh crabs caught by Jimmy himself every morning. This time around we called ahead of time for 2 dozen medium large crabs. 30 min after we arrived, the confused waitress told us they only had 1 dozen m/l left, then the manager (Jimmy) told us they did have 2. Finally an hour later we got 2 dozen mediums. After our meal, Jimmy came to check on us and was very apologetic; we got our sides comped and a few extra crabs. Food was OK at best, venue was rundown and in need of an update and cleaning in many different areas, service seemed slow (though very pleasant), they were out of several items and nearly out of crab too, it's on a very busy road with no view, the crab chowder was terrible and seemed likely to be canned with crab thrown in it, crabs themselves were overdone, and the pricing overall didn't seem as good as some other places. read more

Got some steamed crabs from Rusty Jimmy's on a Sunday afternoon. After placing the other, we received a call asking if we could pay in cash because the individual there didn't know how to work the machine (or it was broken), which wasn't an issue. When we showed up, the employee didn't know how much to charge us and did not have any change for us. Out of the 2 dozen crabs we got, about half of them were good and the other half were not. The crabs that were good had great flavor, were full. The others were light, or tasted like they had been reheated. Seems like the place has potential, but not impressed overall. read more

There is ample parking around the corner and al fresco dining out front. Inside the décor features a crowd-sourced Blue Crab motif accented with tapestries and bespoke lighting fixtures made from traditional crab transportation containers. The name of the game at Rusty Jimmy's is crabs. Generous servings of locally caught Blue Crab steamed to perfection. Crab balls and crab cakes without a hint of filler. Delicious lump crab dip. Homemade banana or blueberry bread while it lasts. By the way, RJ's is BYOB! The service was outstanding. Chris and crew took care of us brilliantly. Although the restaurant doesn't take reservations, with a phone call, Chris was able to seat our party of 5 with no problem. Be sure to ask Chris about his Superbowl trips. We were with family and the adults were looking for a solid AUCE crab place. This will forever be our go-to. We have never been to Rusty Jimmies but I can tell you we will forever recommend the place. Captain Chris is the real deal. His mom bakes the breads. A hole in the wall place but we were blown away by their jumbo shrimp and scallops. Seriously, the shrimp were the best we have ever had! We ordered our food to-go and the staff was super friendly and even sent us home with paper to cover our table and a wooden hammer to help with the crabs we got. I don't think I have ever left a review for a restaurant before but Rusty Jimmies was so good I wanted to make sure others knew as well. It was some of the best crabs I have ever had if not the best. I have had plenty of crabs from different popular places in Maryland and Rusty Jimmies in my opinion was the best I've ever had. Their soft shell were also amazing and everything tasted incredibly fresh. Can't recommend enough and the owner was incredibly kind and friendly to us. This is not "fine dining" as all the items we ordered (including the vegetables) were either fried or battered...but it was tasty all the same. Both the Soft Crab Trio and the Scallop Imperial (topped with crab) were very good! The owner, who doubled as our server, was friendly and helpful. The food came out quickly as well. You can tell the establishment appreciates its customers by all of the kids' colored pages posted on the walls. It had a nice atmosphere. End of season trip to Ocean City for Country Calling Music festival and some time in Assateague. My wife and I travel a lot. Up and down the coast and across the country. We love food, hole in the wall classic local fare is what we search out. My wife will typically stop a police officer or fireman and ask where to eat. We always search for the off the beaten path recommendation. We arrived into town starving and not wanting to search out the local law enforcements advice, went to Yelp as we frequently do, but rarely write reviews. This seemed to fit our type of place. Reviews were mostly positive and described what we were looking for. *for reference, we did not mention any of our issues to the kitchen/staff/waiter. We ate what we could, paid and left. I know that it's better to iron out in person, and was going to let it go, but after rereading some of the reviews after the fact... felt it best to get my opinion out to the Yelp world. We walked in just after opening to an empty restaurant. Greeted by a friendly owner/server Chris, where we had our choice of seats. Plastic HD split folding tables covered with heavy paper it was headed down the right direction. This was the last part of our experience that was what we were looking for. We ordered drinks (can of coke and a lemonade) and an appetizer (Bacon wrapped scallops). The $15 for 3 medium overcooked and dried out fried scallops dusted with Old Bay, presented on a small plate, stand alone, no presentation, wouldn't have been such an issue had they not been so over cooked (fried and dried) that the bacon crumbled off when you pulled out the toothpick and were extremely grainy, hard to eat. We had to ask for cocktail sauce, They could have been fresh scallops, but no one would have ever known as every bit of fresh was cooked out of them. Cocktail sauce and lemon were a must. My wife ordered the seafood sampler. A few scallops (4), fried shrimp (6-small) and 2 small crabs, ($$) The shrimp and scallops again were dry, overcooked and smaller than would be anticipated for the price, the crabs were also fried in most likely old dirty oil and heavily dusted in Old Bay. Leaving anything and everything to be desired. I ordered the fried shrimp ($$). I was served and charged the shrimp imperial ($$$). The shrimp (6) were a bit larger than my wife's, I wouldn't classify them as Jumbo by any means. They were slapped on an empty plate, and simply buried in crab imperial. I'm glad there was the kitchen mistake as the imperial was needed to make the dry, rubbery overcooked shrimp edible. The Mac and cheese side was watery and tasteless. Mom's cornbread had good taste, but needed water to help get it down it was so dry. No butter was offered or on the table. Our meal was over $100 with tip. I read and reread the reviews, I've eaten their food. My opinion is that this is frequently misrepresented with a 5* (4.3 star overall rating). I mean no ill will towards anyone running their business, It may have been the end of the season, it may have been a bad night, but the 1-2 star reviews posted are closer to the experience I had than that of the 5 star reviews that lead me to dine here. I do not venture to Ocean City Maryland very often, however, I will not be rushing back to Rusty Jimmies if I do. read more

This is a hard one to rate because things did not go very well at first, but the staff was very nice and did everything they could to make it right. Things were going wrong for them all day, trouble with steamers... anyway, the biggest complaint I have is that with the AYCE crabs they included females without telling us. I think that is an important factor with Marylanders anyway. I think you should be told that up front and or offered male only or female only if that's what you'd prefer. read more
