I asked for locally sourced seafood, owned said his fish is from North Carolina????!!!!! WTF!! Crabs way over priced; a true waste of time.

Our go-to place for great seafood to go in OCMD! Have ordered many items and have never been disappointed. This time we got the Jumbo Soft Crab sandwich - includes two very nice sized crabs and both had every leg still attached (you'd be surprised what you get at some other places)! Also got the fried calamari - good sized portion, plus fries. Everything hot and tasty and ready in 15 minutes after we called. Friendly people on the phone and at the counter - they speak English and actually communicate (also a challenge at some places)! Great value too - which is a difference-maker when so many OC places have gone crazy with their seafood prices. Please keep prices where they are now! We love everything about Rippons! read more

My fiance and I got a dozen of steamed blue crab - they were absolutely fantastic. I called before hand to check the price and the lady on the other end of the phone was so nice. I highly recommend Rippons if you're visiting OCMD and craving some crabs! It was only a short walk from our condo and only a 20 minute wait for the crabs themselves. read more

Don't pass on Rippons because you think they only sell raw items. They have a nice selection of prepared foods, too. ATMOSPHERE: They're located in the Ocean City Square SC behind 7Eleven. It's a takeout counter with a few outdoor tables should you want to eat there. MENU: Seafood platters, baskets, sandwiches, salads, soups and fresh seafood. FOOD: Fried Fish Fillet - $11.99 I'm not exactly sure what kind of fish it was but it lived up to my expectations; a flaky white fish, possibly cod, catfish or flounder, beer battered and deep-fried. The batter could've been seasoned more but adding the included tartar sauce helped. Parts of the pillowy soft bread became mushy due to the hot fish and sweating in the takeout container. Came with a small bag of chips but I enjoyed it better with fries from the other dishes. Scallop Basket - $19.99 (5 pcs) Lightly battered and deep-fried, wholesome in flavor and were very tender. Sides were a generous amount of natural-cut fries and okay-tasting tartar sauce. Fried Shrimp - $15.99 (6 pcs) They weren't the biggest shrimp but were breaded and deep-fried golden brown. To be honest, the frozen ones you get at Costco are comparable which isn't a bad thing. Accompanied with tartar and cocktail sauces. SERVICE: Staff were friendly and professional. Delicious meals to go and fresh seafood market. The staff was very friendly and willing to go over the different kinds of seafood. Very busy for to go orders and fresh fish to go. I missed breakfast this morning and I was starving! I yelped "lunch" and amongst other businesses, Rippons popped up. Seemed to be freshly made to order. I started out. It's actually 2 blocks down from our condo, connected externally to 7-11, and right in front of Fast Eddie's where we ate a couple nights ago. After glancing thru the menu I decided on a fish filet sandwich. Comes with chips. At first I was like - Oh its on bread. I thought it be like a brioche bun, but when I got home and tasted it...it was delicious! I sat out on our deck. I added some cottage cheese I had in the fridge, as a side and some cocktail sauce we also had in the fridge. What a great and filling meal. Very tasty!! Very fresh! Again, they have the seafood there and made it when I ordered it. It's not sitting around, for sure. Check out my pics of some of their raw seafood to go items. I'd like to go back and get a broiled platter. I was almost done eating and I found a giant pickle hiding under the lettuce I didn't use. Love pickles!!! You order, they fry the fresh seafood, you eat on picnic tables outside, simple. We got the scallop basket which came with tender, sweet scallops and fries. The tartar sauce was meh, but the scallops were lightly battered and well seasoned so dipping was not necessary. We also got the jumbo soft crab sandwich, yum x2, comes with a pickle wedge, and a bag of chips. Good thing I don't eat bread. I believe the prices for the sandwiches jumped an additional $5 since last year. I paid $27 for this delicious softshell sandwich, but the crabs were pretty thick, so I think it's worth the price. I will continue to come back for these every summer, until I get priced out. read more

We really enjoyed the food here. It was very tasty. It tastes fresh and not a whole lot of fillers. This place is a bit pricey though - I don't think we will come often just because of how expensive it is. We ordered the Seafood Platter ($26.99), Maryland Crab Soup ($10.99), and Shrimp Salad (Pint for $9.49). This was enough for 2 people. Our total ended up being $53. We really enjoyed the Seafood Platter, it came with Fried Fish, Fried Shrimp and Crabcake ... and 2 small sides ... and a Hawaiian roll. This was all very yummy, perfectly fried and fresh. The Maryland Crab Soup didn't have a lot of crabmeat but was also tasty. The Shrimp Salad is all Shrimp ... yummm! I would get all these again, maybe on a special occasion. :) read more

They delayed our family dinner because they lost our order. If you have children or if you just want to eat at the time they say, I strongly suggest eating some place else. I called about 4pm and asked if they took phone orders and how early I needed to call to have dinner ready at a certain time. The gentleman who answered said they absolutely took orders over the phone and just to call before their dinner rush started and to identify a time. I called back a few minutes later, placed an order, and told the gentlemen I'd like to pick it up at 6. He said no problem and even told me the address of the location. I got there at 6. They were pretty busy but I went up to the counter and asked to pick up my order. Initially they told me it wasn't ready yet. I asked if I could go ahead and pay, but he said he didn't have the ticket in front of him. About 10 minutes later I asked another gentleman about my order-- he asked what I had then went to the kitchen to check. When he came back out he started working on a few other things so I went back to him and said "hey i just wanted to make sure you didn't lose my order." He acted super exasperated at that point because I guess I'd been bothering him. He asked for my name again. Asked what I ordered and then looked again and came back out to tell me they didn't have my order. I didn't really have any choice at that point but to resubmit my order. They said it'd be done by 645. Like I said earlier in the review, this was a tough pill to swallow because the kiddos are at home waiting for dinner. But I didn't really have a choice. Nothing I could think of would be faster. So the main points are: I called and asked the best way to submit an order and they still lost it. When I got there they were too busy to figure out the mistake right away and made me wait. When I followed up they gave me a hard time and made me feel like I was inconveniencing them. Even at this point if they had apologized or moved my order to the front of the queue everything would've been cool. But that's not how they played it. read more

Great service! It's a small little place. You can order in or call in. They have some picnic tables outside to eat at or you can take it home. I ordered in at the counter and took it home. I ordered the oyster platter and added a soft shell crab. The platter came with two sides, I ordered a side of macaroni salad and pasta salad. I also ordered a side of hush puppies. Everything was great! The hush puppies tasted like the bag mix you can get from the grocery store. The oysters were huge! The soft shell crab was a nice size. Both were very fresh! Well, this was amazing. We were driving past and decided to stop by. We didn't want fries, so we had the oysters and scallops weighed and fried for us. OMG! So good! Oysters tasty, but scallops were simply divine. Prices by California standards were a third to half of what we're used to. The parking right by the place is tight, but if you turn into the shopping center next door instead, there's plenty. read more

OK seafood is expensive. When you are in a resort town you have to keep telling yourself you are not going to find cheap seafood. So, the place is not cheap but the quality of the food and the quantity of the portions makes up for that. We ordered a clam strip basket and a calamari basket. Each was $12.99 but when they handed us the containers they were extremely heavy. There was quite a large portion of fries in each, sort of thicker cut and still with the skins on and they were well cooked but lightly salted. They probably gave us 15 packets of ketchup! The clam strips came with lemon slices, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce and the calamari came with lemon slices and a marinara sauce. For me, but I don't really eat tartar sauce normally because I don't like mayo, it had too much dill, and the marinara sauce was a prepackaged brand named Ken's and that had too much oregano in it, but the cocktail sauce was classic and delicious. The calamari were lightly breaded, tender and very fresh. The clam strips were great. They were darker and had a thinner type of breading than the calamari and you could really taste the sweetness of the clams through the breading. They have a very loud fan going at the entrance which I think is supposed to push air out and it was really loud if you tried to sit at the picnic tables outside the door to eat your food. We ended up sitting inside on the small bench by the window. As it is everywhere, the seafood is pricey but we might return to order the steamed crabs. read more

By far and away the biggest scam in OC. We bought seafood here to take back to Lancaster PA. I live in Florida. We questioned the counter girl that spoke sketchy English about freshness. She told us multiple times the grouper and flounder were fresh. I qualified with her and asked, "so it's fresh never frozen?" She said it's never been frozen. So we bought a pound of flounder and a pound of grouper. We also got 2 pounds of jumbo shrimp. All of the seafood was 100% overpriced. Jumbo shrimp was $28.99/lb and it came from the Gulf of Mexico. Wait....why? They are a couple miles from the boats. We grilled it all tonight and the shrimp had a plump texture but the fish was mush!!!! Not fresh! Flavor was that of frozen. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MARKET!!!! read more

We decided to try Rippons Seafood Saturday afternoon. It was a lazy day so I figured I would get some takeout for me and the missus. We had grabbed a menu earlier in our travels and a couple I saw eating outside said the food was good. Rippons is only takeout although they have two picnic tables in front you can enjoy. There is plenty of parking in the adjacent parking lots. You enter the the venue to a display of seafood displayed in the refrigerated cases. Everything looked good and the selection is impressive: scallops, clams, crab deviled eggs, several sizes of shrimp, fish, soups etc... They offered several dessert options and also had a frozen case which held some crab claws, shrimp, Jonah claws etc... I ordered the fried seafood platter which consisted of fish, shrimp and a crab cake. Broiled items are available for an up charge. I picked cole slaw and potato salad. The clam basket I ordered with fries. Got a pint of shrimp salad and I had to try the deviled crab eggs. It took about 15 minutes to prepare my order and I was on my way. I got back to the house and we dived right in. The nice size portion of fish was tasty. I was very disappointed with the fried shrimp. They looked exactly like the ones I have bought in the past from the freezer aisle in the market. The crab cake tasted fine but there was filler used not all lump crab. The fried clam strips were large and plentiful and sat on crisp french fries. The shrimp salad was tasty. It consisted of shrimp lightly coated with mayonnaise and seasoning. I enjoyed the deviled crab eggs more than my partner. There was plenty of crab meat in the filling and I was excited to see them on the menu. The food was outstanding! I hadn't realized that this little hole in the wall was a legit restaurant. Friends got some steamed shrimp from there so I tried it the next day. The crab soup was the best we've had in Ocean City and so were the fried clams. Not the shriveled, gnarled things that I have gotten from a few restaurants down there but real pieces of nice sized clams. Real fresh and fries to perfection. We have been ordering Rippons for years & they never disappoint. We ordered again for my grandfathers birthday and they were fantastic once again. The crab meat was sweet & succulent, cooked to perfection! They coat the crabs with old bay & it tastes incredible. The only negative to Rippons is that they are a little pricey compared to other places but we continue to buy from them because they're right around the corner from my grandparents house and they always deliver on quality. read more

It's a real shock that a storied place like this, in a beach town, bragging about selling fresh fish and shrimp, would sell an expensive $20 fried shrimp platter (10 shrimp) that didn't feature their fresh shrimp handmade. Instead, they give regular dive bar quality pre-breaded frozen commercial shrimp probably from Cisco. I know these are commercial grade pre-frozen because I've bought them before at a Costco. To say I feel deceived is to oversimplify. Better for them not to even offer fried shrimp if they're not going to make it themselves. Is the steamed shrimp their fresh shrimp or is that from Cisco too? I feel scammed for having chosen this place as one of my beach town fresh seafood meals. Shame. read more

Our family has been going to Rippons since the 80's. Crab soup use to be the best in OC. The soup today was tasteless, veggies were under cooked, especially the onions which were basically raw. Last day for a quick OC vacay and passed through this place. Place has been around for over 30 some year I believe... and a friend recommended for the fresh seafood around town. The place is a small carry out market but do have few seatings outdoor. It's located towards behind/side area of a gas station. Stopped by and decided on lobster and crab cake to take home. The man took his time showing and weighing a couple of them and finally I set on 1.7lbs lobster. He said to be cooked will be about 20 mins. I mentioned I'm traveling 3 hours away and have a cooler in the car but would be needing some ice. He said no problem. Came to pick up about an hour later, the first man wasn't there but another one behind the counter knew what i came for, wrapped my lobster and crabcake so carefully and neatly and went back in and came out with bunch of ice, even helped me pack them in the cooler. And yep their lobster was great and fresh and I went to town the minute I got home! Will def be coming back to them when I'm back in OC to try other things on menu! read more
