Wow I came here to give a review for my bad experience and come to find so many others were dealing with exactly the same problem as me. These people have zero experience. This is a beginners mechanic stop they barely know the basics. They caused a leak in my car whold not following instructions and mishandling my oil pan plug and no one wanted to take responsi . It's like they deal with it in a local level and actually refused to my face when I requested to speak to someone higher up in the Valvoline chain they just completely blatantly deny you and immediately close your case without even hearing you out. The regional manager, Dominic Torlish did not even allow me to plead my case to him I never spoke with the man he only heard the local managers side of the story who is responsible for causing the leak. This is very much conflict of interest because if it's dealt with at a local level and you cannot plead your case to anyone higher up in the Valvoline chain why would local managers admit they are at fault if they never have to answer to anyone higher up. Do yourself a favor go to a real mechanic these people are snakes. Fire Dominic Torlish!

However, they also performed a courtesy inspection and recommended over $1000 of additional repairs. Most notably, they found excessive play on the ball joints on both sides, which posed a serious safety risk. This repair alone would have cost over $800. I brought the car to another local mechanic (who came highly recommended) for a second opinion. According to him, the ball joints were perfectly fine (though he agreed with some of the lower cost repairs recommended by East Rock Auto). I would use East Rock Auto again if I have specific repairs that need to be done, but I would take their courtesy inspection results with a big grain of salt.

I'm a woman, and I believe the shop assumed I had no knowledge of car repair pricing. I have the full digital estimate saved as screenshots, so here are the facts: TRUNK WEATHER STRIPPING Quoted: $433.08 Labor: $132.78 | Part (trunk seal): $274.44 Reality: A trunk weather seal costs $20-$60 in parts. Labor is a straightforward 30-45 min job. Fair total in CT: $100-$130 MAX. They were charging 3x the reasonable price inflating the part alone by over $200. SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT (6 cylinders) Quoted: $961.78 Labor alone: $691.03 | Parts (6 plugs + gasket kit): $213.32 Reality: According to AAA, RepairPal, and industry standards, a V6 spark plug replacement runs $150-$350 total, or up to $500 at a dealership for hard-to-access engines. Labor nationally ranges from $55-$437 they quoted $691 IN LABOR ALONE. That is simply not defensible. POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR Quoted: $454.78 Labor: $182.10 | Part: $245.53 Reality: This reservoir typically costs $30-$80 in parts. The job takes under an hour. Fair total: $130-$170. They marked up the part by over $170. MOUNT & BALANCE 2 TIRES (215/60/16) Quoted: $373.74 They also added $23.79 for "Road Hazard Coverage" without asking me. Reality: Those tires run $80-$110 each at Costco or Walmart. Mount & balance is $20-$25 per tire. Fair total: ~$230-$270. I declined all four jobs. The overcharge on just these items totals approximately $1,000-$1,300 above fair market value in New Haven, CT. What I did approve (Fluid Film Treatment $199.99 and Transmission Drain & Fill $193.66) seemed within a reasonable range and I have no complaint there. If you are a woman, speak limited English, or appear unfamiliar with car repair get a second opinion before approving ANYTHING here. Bring someone with you, or check RepairPal.com for fair price ranges in your zip code before you walk in.

Extremely unprofessional and unacceptable experience at the Firestone location in Hamden,…read moreConnecticut. The interaction I had with the store manager, Brent (full name not provided), was discourteous, escalatory, and far below the level of professionalism expected from a Firestone representative--especially a store manager. On the day of my appointment, 11/22/25, I called in the morning to advise the store that I would be picking up the tires only and would not be needing installation, as the tires were purchased through my place of employment. I was not told this would be an issue during my call but that I could come at anytime. However, when I arrived, I was told I needed to speak to the manager. After waiting, the manager, Brent, informed me that he did not know whether I was "allowed" to simply pick up the tires due to my organization's contract. This was the first time anyone mentioned such a concern. When I asked how this could be confirmed, or why I was not informed earlier when I called, his tone became noticeably escalated and dismissive. I expressed that I simply wanted a good customer experience, as I could see he was becoming increasingly frustrated in both tone and manner. When I asked if there was someone above him I could speak with, he stated there was not. When I asked if there was a corporate office, he simply told me I could "call them," offering no additional assistance or clarity. My husband was present and witnessed the entire exchange. After Brent continued to escalate the situation, my husband intervened and asked what would be done today, stating he was not going to "go back and forth." Brent then retrieved the tires and threw them outside the establishment, clearly upset and making no effort to de-escalate or maintain basic customer courtesy. As he loaded the tires into my truck, I asked for his full name. He replied only "Brent," refused to provide his last name, and ended the interaction with "Have a good day and holiday," despite his behavior being in stark contradiction to respectful customer service. If Brent represents the standard of leadership in this store, then Firestone is failing its customers.

Great service, fair prices…read more I called to see if they could fit me in same day and finish by 4pm for a road trip -- my hood was rusted shut, preventing me from replacing my headlight so I could drive safely in the rainy weather. They told me to come right in and they would see what they could do. George and Ismael stood out in the rain trying to loosen up my hood latch, replace my headlight, my tail light, and even did a last minute oil change to make sure my car was safe to drive today. They topped off all of my fluids and fixed my tire pressure without even being asked. I made it out of there with a $35 charge for the oil change and 1/2 hour of labor for the hood latch/headlight repairs, topping my bill off at just under ~$100. (On the contrary, Firestone Auto told me they would charge $200 just to replace a headlight, not even knowing my hood was stuck shut). I will definitely come back here in the future. Auto shops so often leave you feeling like you were cheated, but I trust these guys and felt like they had my best interests in mind.

Suave Auto Detailing came to my house in Norwalk, CT and was very professional. Came with their equipment and supplies and began to work on my Nissan Murano SUV after an intense camping trip to a primitive, remote area in Northwestern Maine--and I couldn't be more impressed. After a 4-mile off-road drive through rugged dirt and rubble roads, my vehicle was caked in mud, packed with wood chips and sand, and littered with debris from firewood and wet camping gear. The interior and exterior were a complete mess. Suave Auto Detailing worked magic on my SUV. When it was completed, it looked and smelled brand new. Every inch of the vehicle--from the mud-caked wheel wells to the smallest crevice inside--was spotless. The attention to detail was incredible, and they didn't miss a thing. You'd never know this vehicle just came back from deep-woods camping. They even took care of the stubborn spots I didn't think could be cleaned! Professional, thorough, and passionate about what they do--Suave Auto Detailing truly went above and beyond. Highly recommend their services to anyone who wants top-tier detailing, especially after an adventure!
