I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Asset. I'd give them 10 stars if I could. My husband and I hosted a welcome reception at Asset for about 70 guests prior to our son's wedding. We were on the mezzanine level, which I must say cannot accommodate more than that number. The food was amazing and delicious; people offered compliments all weekend. One couple even returned on Sunday to eat Asset dumplings one more time before leaving New York! We were pleased that the passed food kept coming and the food stations were generously filled. Staff managed the room well, making sure that food was well distributed among all the guests (we have some aggressive eaters) and providing special drinks upon request. . . .even tea for the bride's mom! The wines were delicious and I heard many compliments about the interesting and tasty mocktails. Staff was very helpful in crafting our menu in advance of the event. They provided information that allowed us to accommodate guests with food allergies and other restrictions. The event was exactly what I had wanted as a welcome party for our out of town guests! The spot is nice with dim lights. We went on a Saturday night. It wasn't super packed but it wasn't empty. There was a DJ playing old school reggae, a good mix of party type music. That was cool considering it was what we are looking for. Something to consider if you're looking for an intimate setting on a Saturday night. The food was OK. We got Shrimp dumplings, and BBQ Ribs as an appetizer. The steamed dumplings were coated with chili flakes but a tad bit on the bland side. The ribs were definitely better than the dumplings. Very soft and off the bone, with a light coat of BBQ. However it too was a little bland and hence we had to add a dash of salt. Not the worst that could happen. I would order the ribs again but not the dumplings. For main course we shared the Lobster fried rice and added shrimp. The rice was good. It had flavor and did not lack any salt. We also ordered the Charred Wagyu Satays than honestly could be skipped. This had NO flavor super bland imo...it came with a green sauce that it also was not good. Despite it all, it was a good experience. Im still giving it 4 stars because it was my first time here and perhaps I didnt order their best dishes. Carlos was super on point with all of our orders he did not need any assistance from us which was impressive because we were a large party yet he handled all of our requests and orders with no problem. Visiting New York for the first time and decided to give Asset a chance after a quick search for brunch restaurants in the Upper West Side. My family and I were appalled to see that the front windows were smashed and were even more turned off by the lazy staff and crew doing nothing with an empty restaurant but watch a single person clean the glass to the horror of bystanders. This space is beautiful but clearly the owner and management have issues maintaining a solid clientele and effectively taking care of a good space. We decided to skip out and visit a different breakfast restaurant a few streets down and had much better luck. In the UWS, skip Asset as there are far way better options at the price point. P.S. If you can't make use of the beautiful space, give it to a different restaurant that will not waste it as pitifully as "Asset" does. read more

My family group had Christmas dinner here and it was fantastic. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for. We have been here several times since they changed the menu to an Asian theme and we have really enjoyed the food every time we have eaten here. Had been wanting to try Asset for a while and got a chance to last week. I had been to Tessa on Amsterdam a few time before. I think the same owners, notice the reverse spelling. We visited this (very casual) place with our 3 year old who was quietly playing with play dough and someone came over to tell us that the mangled, damaged table (made of pressed wood) had "sensitive" wood so he needed to put it away. We've never experienced this!! Stay away with kids. Beyond that food quality and service was terrible. Asset was the setting for my company holiday party. We arrived early for our 6:30 reservation, but our table for 5 was already set. After checking our coats at the front door, we were lead though the swanky first floor, up the stairs, to the equally swanky second floor. There are full bars on both levels. My boss expressed her satisfaction with the circular shaped table as we sat. Great start. We were warmly greeted by our server and quickly began deciding on cocktails. I went for The Antidote, a take on a whiskey ginger. Super good, albeit not entirely strong. An eggnog martini, a cucumber crusha' and two Wild Thoughts for the rest of the group. We also decided on two orders of wagyu pigs-in-a-blanket, which actually arrived before the drinks. The piggies were tasty, and the housemate ketchup wasn't too sweet. Wish there was a bit more of the mustard though. As the tables began to fill around us, we ordered up and down the appetizer menu. Octopus for myself, garlic shrimp, ancient grains, steak carpaccio, and bufala mozzarella for the rest. I really enjoyed the preparation of the octopus: charred, yet maintained a smooth mouth feel. The steak carpaccio was also melt-in-your-mouth good. The rest of the table enjoyed their apps, too. More cocktails arrived (I followed suit and switched to a wild thoughts - actually had a good level of spice! liked it more than the Antidote.) with our entrees. The scallops were phenomenal, and I was not shy about dipping the complimentary bread into the creamy, buttery sauce. The asparagus was kind of became an afterthought on the plate, but balanced the decadence of the butter. The steak frites and pork porterhouse were also on the table, representing the entrees with more heft. Regardless, I was stuffed with scallops and octopus. A deep sea dive for my taste buds. Finally, dessert. We couldn't resist the sounds of 15-layer chocolate cake (indeed, there are 15. I counted.) and the baked Alaska. They were both okay. Asset was exactly what I expected. And that's not a bad thing. It's just a thing thing. Upper West Side restaurants just tend to be mediocre relative to eateries in other neighborhoods. Whenever I write a positive review for an UWS restaurant, I often feel that need to qualify my compliments with "for the Upper West Side". There are very few restaurants in this area that I'd choose over the majority of top spots in the West Village or Lower East Side. So, after saying all of that silly explanation of nothingness, I can report that my recent dinner at Asset was lovely and well-executed.......for the Upper West Side. Nothing blew me away, but everything was serviceable at the very worst. The menu is varied with lots of fun options. And the ambience is fantastic--updated, trendy, very un-UWS. The vibe alone will attract attention. The neighborhood needs more venues like Asset and I'm grateful to have a buzzworthy place close by. Came here at around 8:30pm on a Wednesday night. It was a last-minute get--we were planning to go downtown but the night's tropical storm had other plans. As we ducked into Asset from our four-block Lyft, I was immediately comforted by how different this space is from all others in the vicinity. It's large, fresh and even a little clubby. Two levels, high ceilings, a long and impressive bar and a steady stream of great music. While I've never been to Tessa, I've walked past it thousands of times. Asset is the cool, young cousin that Tessa will never be but can idolize despite being of a different generation (and no, I can't relate from personal experience despite a suspicious level of detail). I happened to be in a state of high anxiety when I arrived, so we put in our drink orders at an unrivaled pace. Many have raved about the cocktail menu here, so we opted for mixed drinks to start. I started with the Wild Thoughts (Hendrick's Gin, Strawberry, Lime, Chili Tincture) and the bf with the Smash-N-Dash (Jack Daniels Whiskey, Espresso, Cola, Cherry). Honestly, both were just okay. They were both fine. The Wild Thoughts was garnished with a massive chili pepper but I didn't get any peppery notes from the drink itself. Found it a little strange. Our second round, however, was far more satisfying. I ordered the Pillow Talk (True Vodka, Aperol, Pineapple, Lemon Grass, Lime) and the bf got the The Antidote (Pendleton Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth, Ginger, Lemon, Soda Water). This round was significantly better than the first--both cocktails were refreshing and yummy. Sure, you could say just one glorified Aperol spritz and one glorified whiskey ginger, but they were still done well. The food was a mixed bag, but overall solid. Upper West Side dining is typically about pleasing the masses, less about perfecting one particular concept. Asset is in danger of doing just that--spreading itself too thin across a good-sized range of preparations and influences at the expense of quality. So while it's toeing the line, we were still mostly content and had a few standouts. Eats, below: Ahi Tuna Crudo w/ pickled shiitake, wakame, cilantro, ponzu: A A safe preparation but done well. I love me some seaweed salad. The fish was fresh and well-seasoned, paired well with all accompaniments. Harvest Salad w/ kale, watercress, pumpkin, walnut, cranberry, goat cheese, turmeric vinaigrette: A There are few things I like more than a good fall salad. These components are tried and true. The pumpkin was a nice tough. Grilled Octopus w/ rice beans, charred gordal olives, piquillo pepper, citrus emulsion: B+/A- This one was decent but not mind-blowing. The cook on the octopus was just okay. That said, I was impressed with the overall flavor profile and it redeemed the dish for me. Baby Clams w/ finochietta, white wine, basil, garlic baguette: A-/A This sauce/broth was a little bit much for me personally but still super tasty. Nice addition of the pork, though it overwhelmed the clams a bit. I enjoyed each ingredient separately but felt that as a whole, maybe too much going on. Moulard Duck w/ plum, farro, garden vegetables: B This one fell flat, unfortunately. We asked for medium rare and it came well-down. Tough and pretty devoid of flavor. Again, the sauce salvaged it, but when you want a satisfying duck preparation and receive this, it's a letdown, sorry to say. We pretended to enjoy for our server's benefit (she seemed even more disappointed than we were to hear our report of the cook) but this one needs work. Last note: the wine here is worth looking at. We each got a glass when the duck came, one red and one white. Both were great. They have a nice selection you can get by the glass, and if you ask they'll let you sample a few types if you're having trouble deliberating. Service is superb all around. They're clearly trying to make this concept work and the effort does not go unnoticed! read more

So I've walked past this spot and would always tell myself I need to give it a try. Their music, DJ and busy crowd piqued my interest. Finally by chance I was able to walk in for brunch on a Sunday. My fiancé and I sat at the bar where we had the pleasure of being serviced by a gentleman who completely catered to my specific requests given my pregnant situation. Their decor is sleek, intimate lighting and definitely very modern. The place is spacious which seems necessary given they're always somewhat pretty busy. A private event seemed to be taking place in the upstairs area while we were there but there were still tables available on the main floor. Our food took a reasonable amount of time to come out which we appreciated given that it tasted fresh and just right once served. I really enjoyed my eggs Benedict with a side of Avocado. My partner enjoyed his chicken and Waffles as well. I was also really into my mocktail version of their Westside cocktail- refreshingly tasty! I did not miss the alcohol at all haha! 3.5 stars and the reasons: Tried this restaurant out on Sunday night and thought the place was beautifully decorated with an interesting layout and great ambiance. There's also a middle section with high stool chairs but nobody was eating there other than a guy with his laptop. Perhaps it's an area meant for drinks & snacks only during late nights? Regardless, my friend and I started with the grilled octopus and bufala mozzarella appetizers. Both had olives in them and were pretty decent (even though I don't eat olives and are not a big fan of them; yet still found them to be pretty good) Also forgot to mention that their bread was amazing! Tried the pillow talk cocktail and was very well made in my opinion. Couldn't taste any of the vodka but I know there is vodka in there For the main dishes, we got the parpadalle with duck ragout and the Moullard duck - unfortunately I have to say both were extremely awful. The pasta was super salty and the duck was definitely not medium rare, not tender, super tough, and have a very weird taste with some sort of weird spice that was not appealing at all after a bite. Probably one of the worst duck I've ever had and we didn't finish either dishes obviously. The originally plan was to order dessert - 15 layer cake, but because the main dishes were so awful, I lost faith so can't comment if the dessert is amazing or not. First off, it's a gorgeous space. Definitely has a chic vibe that's not found in most uptown spots. Very excited to have it in the neighborhood. The front bar area is fairly large with space to sit or stand. The restaurant has two levels so seating is ample, and the upstairs also has its own bar which is a nice touch. The drinks were solid. My only complaint is that the cocktail menu overall was more summery than I expected. Lots of fruity, light drinks. I had the Pillow Talk and the Wild Thoughts, both good, and my friend had the Cucumber Crusha' which was also liked. Food I would give a solid 4.5/5. Slightly disappointed that they were out of the two apps we wanted--octopus and ahi tuna tartare--but I forgive them since it was their opening week. We ended up with the beef carpaccio. It was a nicely balanced dish with acid, salt, and sweet elements. As to be expected, the crispy capers were super salty, so just don't get too many in one bite. The beef itself was high quality but technique could use some work. It was cut far too thick for carpaccio. The other app we got was the clams. Also very well executed. The slightest bit salty, but I still dipped into the broth at the end. Entrees were also good, with the duck being the standout. Very well prepared. Steak frites were solid--not quite as outstanding as the duck, but very good. And props for the great fries as well! I think I'll definitely be back. Based on the dishes we had, I'm looking forward to trying some of the items that were sold out. It's a little pricy to be a regular stop, but I'll certainly return on occasion. read more

Asset is a great UWS hidden gem! First, the interior and vibe is swanky and gorgeous. Our group had a table in the upstairs area, and the view of the restaurant below was so fun. Second, the food and drinks were all great! I had the Le Jardin cocktail which was botanical and not sweet- my fav. My friends also raved about their espresso martinis. For a group of six, we ended up splitting several dishes: baked Camembert, truffle tot poutine, garlic shrimp, wagyu pigs in a blanket, papardelle, gnocchi, and hanger steak. For dessert, we shared the passion fruit cheesecake and molten lava cake. The baked Camembert and papardelle were my favorite. Don't sleep on the lava cake too! Would pass on the garlic shrimp next time though. Service was also great all night. Will definitely be back! read more

Morgan was super helpful and informative, the replies were very quick which was extremely appreciated. All of my accommodation were met and then some. The staff was extremely nice, patient and accommodating. We were a larger party (14), food came out quick and fresh, we weren't rushed which for me is important which a large party. The bathrooms remained SPOTLESS all through out the night. As a chef I recommend this place for more reasons than one, Food, Service, pricing, creativity, music, and ambiance. It is with regret that I must write this review. ASSET management hugely mishandled a situation that was not even a situation. We made a reservation 3 weeks in advance for my birthday at an indoor table 4- top for 3 adults and baby. I arrived early, they promptly sat me, I ordered a glass of wine and waited with excitement to see my friends and their precious baby. I was seated comfortably in the back with dividers in place(I thought was great) and plenty of room for our group. When my friends arrived, the management team would not let them in with the baby stroller (extremely compact/ smaller than the chairs) even though there was ample room at the table, especially since they would be taking the 4th chair away. We are bewildered as to why this was an issue, as there must be enough room in the restaurant for a wheel chair (ADA compliant) this stroller is much more narrow and compact. We can only assume they do not want a baby in the restaurant. There was ample space (photo below) for us to be comfortably sat, to not bother customers around us, and to not interfere with the wait staff. My friends were denied entry and were offered an outdoor table, however it was still raining and on the loud avenue. In this day and climate to be baby shaming and unaccommodating is unnecessary. There are plenty of places that do in fact want business from young families and will go above and beyond to be helpful, not deny entry. Everything happens for a reason, as we left, we stumbled upon The Leopard at des Artistes... They didn't have any tables available, but went out of their way to set a new table up for us. The Leopard included, ASSET excluded, embarrassed us and didn't even care. Who baby shames a sleeping beautiful 4 month old!?! oh ASSET, they baby shame..... Families, strollers not wanted - AVOID. The service was great- you wouldn't have known it was their second night. My husband and I started off with the cocktail Pillow talk and the Sloop super soft IPA. The cocktail was great- not too sweet not too tart. The appetizers we tried were ok- nothing too special: the wagyu pigs in blanket: I think seeing the word wagyu drew me in. But when it arrived, it was literally little hot dogs in wrapped in a flaky crust. It was alright but would fit more in a low key pub setting. Roasted bone marrow: not the best I've had- was lacking in salt and the texture was pretty solid compared to others I've had before. I didn't get to experience the food but the customer service was piss poor. I'm visiting NYC and was looking for a nice rooftop at 930pm on a Monday. I called and told the lady I was omw and confirmed that the kitchen closed at 10pm. $25 lyft ride and 25 minutes later I run into the resturant only to find that they closed the kitchen 2 minutes earlier. I tried voicing my frustration with the Manager who lacked empathy or any emotional IQ and was more concerned with showing his authority than resolving a customer issue. He offered me and my son a large mashed potatoes free of charge. I told him I didn't eat mashed potatoes and he simply turned around and a walked a way. You really can't go wrong. If you love a spicy beverage, the Wild Thoughts is a must order. I met my girlfriend and her friend on a Saturday for drinks. The drinks were amazing. Our bartender Jerome was amazing. I asked for advice on what to eat, and everything he recommended was spot on from the appetizers to the entrée. The dumplings were amazing, as were the dragon rolls, but my favorite for the night was the beef and broccoli. The black bean sauce for the beef and broccoli was amazing.
