I went to the Assistance League on E Evans this morning, to donate some men's sport coats and suits that do not fit. The people (all volunteers except one person) there were very nice. Speaking of nice, the shop was well organized, clean, the items I looked at were priced right and tagged appropriately too. Too many "thrift shops" refuse to accept things. Honestly so discouraged and disgusted by the way I was treated here. I asked for assistant at the jewelry counter and was ignore as 3 "ladies" were busy chatting away. I asked to see a tray of necklaces and the one I wanted didn't have a price. The Lady told me she's not comfortable pricing it and asked another gal and she wasn't either. I asked why put it out it on the floor then? How will you sell it? She just took the necklace into the back and said sorry not today. I then asked to see another tray. The lady who I was working with took a few steps away and others were chatting away. She then stepped back moments later and announced to the group of gals. "Keep an eye on her, you never know," and not in a subtle or quiet voice or tone. I was so flabbergasted I just walked out of the store in that moment. I know these ladies are all volunteers, but they had absolutely no right to judge me or anyone. I am a customer on Black Friday. But somehow I must have looked desperate to swipe some costume jewelry and sneak it into my Chanel bag and make a quick getaway in my Porsche! Honestly, I have not been treated by anyone so poorly in a store and at a thrift store for charity no less. I frequent the Assistance league in my hometown and generously support them because when I was a child of extreme humble beginnings, operation school bell clothed me several years in a row for school and I am forever grateful for that. I try to pay it forward and still shop thrift because why not! I will continue to support the Assistance league in my hometown, but this one in Denver? These ladies need a serious attitude adjustment. read more

Was really impressed with this thrift store. Drove past it for so many years...glad I stopped in. Will be returning. Nice selection of clothing and home goods. The stock is of higher quality and in good condition. Definitely a step up from Goodwill, ARC. Their prices may be a little higher (bought two shirts at $6.99 each) but it was still a very reasonable price and it is a more pleasant shopping experience. Well organized and displayed. Visited the store and checked out with cashiers at about 3pm, Saturday September 7. I've been to this store many times, they've always got great stuff. Today though, I had to deal with the rudest cashier/volunteer I've had to deal with in a long time. She seems like the type that is rude to everyone. Here is a tip, if you don't like people, don't VOLUNTEER to interact with people. Most of the time the volunteers here are friendly or at least cordial, this woman needs a lesson in social skills. read more

I'd never been to an ARC before visiting this one and I was very impressed. While it was true to the typical thrift store standards (not the cleanest), I was impressed by the variety, organization, and how large the store was! What a terrible experience!!! I've never had such an awful experience at a store in Denver or in any other thrift store. Today, my girlfriend and I went in for thrift winter clothes. We were discriminated against because of our religion (and probably our sexuality and skin color) and not allowed to shop in the store. When we explained to the employees that we felt we were being discriminated against, they refused to serve us and called the police. We left upset. My girlfriend was visibly shaken. Other shoppers ignored what was happening to us. It's so sad what's happened to humanity. read more

Seriously, THE cleanest and most organized thrift shop I've been to and I've hit a lot of them over the years. Staffed by a gaggle of volunteers who take running this place very seriously. Everything they put out on the floor is clean, in very good condition and labeled clearly. I hit up thrift stores for inexpensive books, toys and sometimes you can really find some great kitchen gear and jewelry. It's hit or miss of course. Given the location I wouldn't say this place receives the most current styles in the way of clothing or books unlike the Buffalo Exchange which curates what they put out. I was afraid by the cute boutique whimsical like decor of the place, that it'd be expensive, but it was actually surprisingly cheaper than the ARC and many items cost as much as you would have it at the star. I bought five small bags of unique Christmas tree decor for a dollar each. They tried deducting .50 cents when they noticed a broken bulb, but I said "Nope no, that was me. I dropped it." I'd call it vintage because it has more of a clean and classy and timeless look to their items, but with thrift store prices, the prices thrift stores were back in the day. read more

I walk in, I start looking around, and I am trying to pretend that I don't see the sign on the door that says you must give bags larger than a purse to the front counter. Luckily for me, the uptight lady at the front saw me and took my bags for me "just to get them out of the way, miss." That's not verbatim, but you get it. Once I saw a certain atrocity, I knew that it was my cue to leave. Let me preface this by saying that I feel skeevy looking in the panty bin at the Semi-Annual sale at Victoria's Secret. And those are never been worn underwear. Assistance League Thrift Mart has a bin labeled "Panties." I ran screaming, almost forgetting the bags that I left at the counter. I started to itch, I started to perspire. I felt faint. I couldn't hear anything. My normally 20/20 vision was blurred. All I could see were shadows. And this is just by being near a bin of used underwear. You couldn't pay me enough to pop the lid on that bucket. But if you're into buying used underwear, you can also buy used bedsheets. Make it a party. Just don't invite me. The men's selection consisted of a classier selection than the women's. Button down shirts and sweaters and slacks and blazers and suits. Made me wish I was a man because the women's selection is abysmal. High waisted pant suits, mumus, pants with elastic waistbands. Good thing I wasn't expecting much from this Colfax thrift store. You can get greeting cards for 39 cents. Nothing clever on the inside, just blank. Let's just say that I'd rather buy those than the used magazines. Yep, they're selling past editions of magazines here. Shouldn't those be free? And everything was just a bit overpriced. It's a THRIFT STORE! I'm not paying your high prices. Sorry. Stayed in downtown Denver, visiting from central New York, and decided to check out thrift stores that were in walking distance of the hotel. This was about a mile away. It was nice to see a security guard at the front door after walking through some dicey sections to get there. All were very friendly as I looked around. Though not large it has a nice selection of items. I was not looking for clothes so I bypassed them. I was looking for collectable dinnerware and hit a mother-load! They had so much that I was getting stressed because I knew I would have to ship it back to New York. I'd have to winnow down what I'd buy. They had Lenox, Hull, Fitz & Floyd...Almost were very reasonably priced. I took the bus back to the hotel and discussed it with my daughter. I went back the next day with her. I settled on a 33 piece Hutschenreuther (Germany) dessert set, 4 Fitz & Floyd plates, a 7 piece Arabia (Finland) Tea Set, and 4 random mugs. Once I decided and paid the ladies there were very considerate. After hearing I was mailing all of it home they wrapped all items individually and carefully packed it in 3 boxes! One even tried to make a handle out of tape! They were so-o-o-o thoughtful and considerate. My daughter helped me carry all back, this time taking a bus. Let the other reviewers complain about the old white ladies, but they are volunteers. Apparently none of the young, awesome, and cool fashionable people could be bothered to work that day. They whole time I was there the volunteers did their work and left me alone. If I had any questions they answered them pleasantly or asked a colleague. This was a great adventure and I truly enjoyed it. I don't have one complaint accept that they aren't closer. I want to go back and get the other items I left behind! read more

I was skeptical about this place when I first saw it. After doing some community service my mind has changed. The people that run this place are friendly and helpful. The place has nice items and for real cheap. Also the money this place makes go to kids who can't afford clothes. Every year they go out and buy clothes, coats, hats and gloves brand new and clothe them. Everyday they have different sales and discounts. They don't have a big selection for men but they have an alright size and selection. They have furniture and house goods. Recommend everyone to swing by and check it out. They give receipts (tax write offs) if you donate anything. read more

All of the reviews keep saying that the people that run this place are sweet and friendly. Au contrare. I edited my review, because I don't feel like it's fair to the whole store to complain for paragraphs about the *one* lady who took my kid's bag, which was no bigger than a purse, and then got really pissed at something my tired 2-year-old said to me, that was minor but inappropriate, before she asked us to leave. That's her right, to refuse service if she wants to, for any reason, at any time, but it still left a bitter taste in my thrifting-mouth. However, in thinking of all of the times that I worked in stores where one person was maligning the public impression of the entire place, I reconsidered what I posted, because if there's someone out there who works for this store, and is the sweet and endearing person who charms others into a good experience, I want that person to be unharmed by my review. So we got kicked out, long story short, after my tired little girl told me to shut up. Bad behavior, yes, but not warranting kicking us out. We were happy to leave, because, like another reviewer said, they have used panties and bras for sale there - and that makes my skin crawl. They run a rather small, unorganized thrift store with no real treasures; they seem to think they can get 45 dollars for a pair of used shoes, a pair of shoes that sold 10 years ago at a mid-to-high end department store, and aren't worth 45 dollars anymore. This place is selling crazy. And, as the ever-so-acerbic and hilarious Jack Nicholson says, "we're all stocked up on that here". Save your money and hit the ARC store on East Colfax, if you want "crazy", but don't wanna sacrifice "awesome" in the bargain. Nothing here to write home about. Really, almost nothing to write a review about... Little, tiny thrift store, mainly clothes. Selection overall wasn't great. Prices seemed a bit high, but I can always overlook that a little bit when the money is going to a charity. Bright side: Nice little ladies running the show. And the tattoo place across the street has an awesome Nightmare Before Christmas mural on the side of the building that I probably wouldn't have seen otherwise :) read more

This store is way overpriced for a thrift store. This is there new location on Evans. All the older ladies are friendly but keeping the bathroom locked all the time is a bit much. I feel like you're guilty there first before being proven innocent. read more

good stuff but the old women here follow me when i come in. Last time i came in myself (a black woman) and my daughter were followed by one of the old lady volunteers and meanwhile there was an obviously intoxicated transient couple that were left to their own devices. This woman followed me within 2 feet including creeping behind displays. I finally filmed her following me to make her go away. Not the first time i was followed in this way here. I am well aware that this store is in a sketchy area of colfax but the obvious extra attention makes me not sure if ill go back. I did end up spending 50 bucks as i found a MK pea coat for 25 bucks and christmas stuff. Idk if the deals are worth the way these woman treat me though. read more

Let me first start off by saying that I am a huge consignment/vintage shopper. This place is definitely more "thrift" than upper scale. There have been a few times where I found some "gems" but more often than not it's a miss. A lot of the items are vintage but not in a good way. It would be a great place to shop for a costume etc. I have never had any problem with the staff, other than they are VERY strict on their 3PM closure, and basically kicked customers out. You really have to look hard to find quality items. read more

After reading reviews posted as far back as 2009, I am surprised at some of the negative comments. 2009? That is 8 years ago. A lot has happened in 8 years. Are these reviews for the shop at 1331 East Colfax Ave, Denver? The AL Thrift Mart at this address resembles nothing like these reviews. This is run by volunteers who help the League achieve their financial goals. The clothes are all clean, well displayed and where else can you purchase a designer jacket for $9.99? And as for asking to check large bags as you go in, obviously from experience, they have found this is helpful to all concerned and perhaps it isn't because they think you are going to take something without paying for it. This store has a lot to offer in a not so large facility, you can get around so much easier without being encumbered with your large bag. This isn't a high-end fashion store it is to assist the less fortunate than ourselves find affordable clothing and household items. There are gems to be found at all Thrift stores and those who have found these treasures at very reasonable prices, are very fortunate indeed. And speaking of used panties and bras that have all been washed, (some reviews seem to insinuate they haven't been washed at all!) consider how wonderful it is to be able to purchase these brand new at expensive stores when others can't. My apartment is mostly decorated with treasures found at the Assistance League. The staff will warm up to you and after a couple of visits, they'll be greeting you by name. I love that they treat the Colfax Street Regulars with great dignity and kindness. Stop by often (with your donations) as the "best finds" are always changing. And for sure stop by before you visit a "real" store. Whatever you're looking for will cost you 1/10th the price and be better quality. read more

I absolutely love this store... The ladies are lovely as can be and they are all volunteers raising money for a charity/non-profit (the assistance league)! As a hurricane Katrina survivor, I can no longer afford to shop at regular "department" stores... The Assistance League Thrift Store and the Glendale Goodwill are my favorites. The ALD Thrift Store is small but is well stocked & has tons of lovely things (clothes, house & cookware, ect.). One of the reviews before mine noted they sell cards, magazines, linens & under garments, ect... I have loved being able to buy cards, underclothes & towels, ect... potentially people who are not financially strapped might not want to buy things like "pre-owned" magazines, undergarments and linens... but in my opinion, that is what a washing machine & dryer are for... I can buy a card for 39 cents instead of between $4 - $6, while helping a charity and the environment... FYI: I found this on there website (denver.assistanceleague.org): Last year, 357 members devoted over 40,000 hours of community service to local projects.
