We stayed here in the off season and selected this hotel due to its lower price point compared to other hotels in this area. Tl;dr: Overall, this hotel felt cheap, and next time I'll pay a little more to get a nicer experience elsewhere. The outdoor area is well maintained, though the hot tub is really small and was always packed. I was disappointed by the interior of the room -- it's old and really needs an update to match what they've done with the exterior. The mattress felt well used/smooshy in a bad way. The furniture was worn and chipping in places. We appreciated the kitchenette (mini fridge; microwave; broken Keurig that they were unable to replace; lots of cups, dishes, and flatware). The bathroom was fairly large with lots of storage. The hotel will charge you for extra bathroom towels, and staff encouraged us to just get beach towels for free to avoid the fee (yuck). Good location to get casual food easily and to access the bike/pedestrian path along the shore. read more

Mixed feelings about our stay. The good: free coffee in your room (keurig) and also complimentary coffee from next door at IMUA. Their lattes were great BTW. Also a semi kitchen including fridge, microwave, dishes and utensils. Made eating take out very easy. AC worked great. We were very comfortable. Decent water pressure shower. The bad: this might be standard in lot of hotels but we got a third floor room and there is no elevator and no one's gonna help you with luggage. Coming in and checking out is a bit difficult with heavy bags. And every time you come and go it's a lot of climbing. Not recommended for people who have issues with moving. Also the day we checked in. They kept saying room would be ready soon. We would wait come back wait come back. This went on for almost 3 hours. We could have done so much more than being told we could check in very soon. That was very annoying and when we checked out they did not allow us to do even a 30 min late check out. It was my first time to Kauai. We booked an ocean view room but got a garden room instead. Immediately opening the door to the room, I noticed the tile floor was really dirty. It was so dirty that my husband & I couldn't even walk barefoot. It had debris & spillage stains. It was so hot in the room so we turned on the ac & it seemed clogged because it was making a loud noise. We slept very uncomfortable in a hot noisy room. Like toothpaste on the bathroom mirror frame, dirt spots sticky on the floor, and weird dirty things around the base of headboard and side table. I'm stuck. They say they're fully booked with no other room. a dirty room is just not tolerable, it wears you down. So gross. Poor me, in paradise but gross room. We enjoyed our two night stay here (overall 5 nights in Kauai). Yes, it isn't a five star hotel but it is a great place to stay, nice grounds/pool/hot tub/steps from the beach and to a strip mall with good food/coffee and a shopping center with ABC store, plus food, shops and more. We had a nice view of the pool and beach beyond and our deck was comfortable as we enjoyed sitting out there to eat some of our meals. We really liked that they had lounges on the beach for use of those staying and we spent more time on the beach here than at our other place. There are grills to be used (I think three) that were very popular while we stayed. The star off really would be for the resort fee- quite pricey (and daily!) as what was provided was typical for most places (and our other place had more things to do on site and no fee). They did give coupons and we definitely used and appreciated the free 2 hour bike rental for each of us- but that was the only extra thing we really got from those fees. Overall good stay. read more

The room we stayed in is basic and small, but a perfect size for two people. The owners of our room also provided beach towels, beach chairs, and boogie boards to use. Stayed in the Oahu building room 139. The first thing I noticed was the table under the TV had rings all over it- like when someone sets their drink down. Clearly it wasn't cleaned. We brought our own Clorox wipes so I wiped it. Then I noticed soap scum on the shower handle. The shower head didn't work, it leaked water out the bottom. The air conditioner didn't work either. The bed was small, pillows were flat. It needs to be updated badly. It wasn't up to my standards of cleanliness. We did let them know, and they offered to send maintenance in the next day, but as we were leaving the following day, we didn't care since we didn't really spend time in the room. Just told them to fix those things for the next guests. I don't think the Aston Islander has a standard of excellence for promptly fixing things that are wrong or for cleanliness. The beach isn't swimmable and it's a very small amount of sand. My "ocean view" was really a view of pool chairs and the bar since we were on the first level. I felt the "ocean view" was quite misleading and I would have booked oceanfront had I known. We did not like the type of people who stayed here either. Basically no one wore masks. Felt like I was in a retirement community full of anti maskers. Would literally never stay here again. Did not feel welcome at all. PS- the sandbar is open 3PM-9PM and is expensive. This is a perfect location for everything nearby - restaurants and shopping. The beach is a bit too rough to swim in, but it's a beautiful sight to lay out and watch the sunset. We enjoyed the Lava Lava restaurant which is next door with live music and happy hour. The hotel rooms can use some upgrading, but if you just need a place to sleep and be conveniently located, this is the place. I'm giving this hotel 3 stars as I felt the ladies at the front desk were not as friendly as other hotels I stayed at in Hawaii. Also, there are no elevators. read more

I selected this place because it was not a chain and seemed to have a more laid back and less crowded experience . I booked a partial ocean view but was "upgraded" to a an almost full ocean view steps from the beach. The main issue with my stay was that my room was right across the Lava Lava beach club restaurant and they have have four super large industrial fans going till late at night, along with all the usual noise, silverware clanking, staff yelling etc.. Obviously it didn't make for the most relaxing trip which was what I was seeking. I asked to switch rooms which was denied as " we"re all booked" until you leave , but yet the front desk girl said to me later people are always leaving and coming in . I saw plenty of people arrive and check in so not sure why my room couldn't be switched. I asked to speak to the manger several times but there was always an excuse as to why they were not there, I finally stopped asking since it was pointless at this point. The front desk staff said no one had ever complained about it before, I guess anyone that had the room before me wore earplugs or had hearing loss, because I heard the hum of the fans all night. Anyway the ocean view was nice to look at, but a good sleep is priceless. I was very polite when speaking to the front desk about the issue , but afterwards the front desk staff seemed to give me the side eye when I walked in to speak with them. It was uncomfortable and I really did not feel welcome here. I guess Aston doesn't really need my tourism dollars helping to run the place and pay the staff. Other things to note, the bed had a worn out mattress on one side that was like sleeping in a hole. The hotel was dusty under the bed and around fixtures. The amenities were not stocked upon my arrival, only one small bar of soap, toilet paper half used no spare, body wash not refilled. Guests only get housekeeping once on your trip you will have to go to the front desk to exchange towels, toilet paper etc.. The star is for the amazing view , nice pool and good location. The customer service could definitely improve, As others have said this place is like a motel 6 by the beach. if I ever get lucky enough to visit Kauai again I will not chose this place. Aston Islander on the Beach is located at the south end of Kapaa on the side near Lihue. There is "traffic," but not like mainland traffic. Everyone should "zipper," meaning that every other car goes so that all of the merging lines go smoothly. No one's fighting, cutting people off, or flipping them off. If everyone plays the game, the traffic is slow, but ... you don't have to go far! As for the air conditioning, it was lovely. I did have to look on YouTube at the Fujitsu remote control instructions, but I've got it now, which is good since I stayed in 2 other places this trip and they had the same remote. Thank you, Jason Richard, for your awesome instructional video! I was a bit surprised that the front desk closed at 7 pm on weekdays and 5 pm on weekends! Luckily, I had my cell phone and called security who told me to knock on the door next to the front desk (no answer). Another guy knocked on the door next to the front desk (no answer). Security showed up and got me the keys to the room and I checked out the following morning. Included with my hotel room was two tickets for coffee at Imua Coffee Roasters. I gifted them to nice people, because I don't drink coffee. I was happy that I had a refrigerator, but I was a little surprised that there wasn't a microwave. I didn't use any of the "resort fee" DVDs, games, etc. I was disappointed that there are only 2 ice machines on the property and only 1 was working ... the working one wasn't on the half of the property where I was staying. I enjoyed seeing the cat. I enjoyed that there was a lanai in the back of the room to just sit and enjoy the views. I didn't enjoy that mosquitoes think that I'm delicious. I enjoyed a morning walk on the beach which I had almost to myself for the sunrise. I stayed in room 165 and couldn't reach any of the Pokestops. I later stayed in 155 and could reach one Pokestop. 155 was through Vacasa, a vacation rental company which I can't quite recommend since they couldn't run my credit card (twice) and I arrived in the rain to no key, a cold shower, and a non-working hair dryer. Vacasa's SNAFUs are absolutely not the fault of Aston Islander on the beach. read more

Beautiful views but that's about it. Rooms need a refresh or at least have maintenance check and fix the many things broken in the rooms. Beaches are tiny and only a few lounges available. Not much around but there is a little shopping area that has a upgraded ABC store with a deli and coffee. Coffee is good, deli is excellent. We got breakfast there everyday and dinner on some. If there were more lounging areas that fit the idea of Kauai, that would be a good place for a solo vacation if reading and mot much of anytging else. read more

We stayed here on our mini weekend vacation. They let us check in early which was great. We had the building right next to the pool, beach front. It was AMAZING. The views were beautiful. The room itself was ok. Nothing fancy. But definitely not dirty or anything. We had no problems with loud neighbors. We left the lanai door open while we slept and it was perfect. Location was great. We were so busy doing tours that we didn't get a chance to go to the beach or the poolside bar (super sad face!) but we'll definitely stay here again next time and make a point to have one day to just sit at the bar and relax. read more

Well, the hotel has rooms for the night and was located on the beach. You probably guessed all that from the name. Well, that is about all to expect. They do have free parking and wifi is available for a fee. But don't expect parking outside your building. You have sidewalks through the grounds to lead you back. There are no 'house' restsurants, but there is a coffee shop and small restaurant by the parking lot to walk over to for food. Elevators are a missing option when you haul your luggage to the third floor of your building. At least they have a pool and hot tub. We rented through Kreller's Island Getaway, I highly recommend! Room 324 we would stay there again. The complex is quiet and our room was oceanfront. There's a marketplace within walking distance with a Whaler's market and cute shops. I liked this location in Kapaa because we drove north and south a lot so we were in the middle. A wonderful place to stay in Kauai, and also the most affordable beachfront property we could find! My boyfriends parents also stayed here twice and recommended the property. We booked using Hula Now where we were able to check into our room right away with a door code and all we needed from the front desk was a parking pass. Everything else was included in the room including free wifi, beach chairs, beach umbrella, pool towels. They do have a book exchange should you finish your book after a few days like me! The property itself is amazing and is comprised of several different buildings all with lanai's and some with ocean views. We were on the third floor in the Molokai building and had an ocean view, perfect for watching the morning sunrise. The grounds are well maintained by staff who are working all day to keep it clean. A security guard is also working all day, not that the property isn't secure but nice to have. The pool area is stunning with tons of lounge chairs, hot tub, tiki bar (open later in the afternoon) and BBQ area with tables. The beach is steps away and you can drag some lounge chairs down as well. It's excellent for swimming as it isn't rocky on the left side and gets deep fast. Not great for young kids as there's waves and a current. We snorkelled one day off our beach and saw some fish, and there were surfers catching waves too. The location is SO convenient - it's in front of the Coconut Marketplace which contains restaurants, shops, and a grocery store. Steps from your room is an amazing coffee shop (IMUA) and convenient takeaway spot (Sleeping Giant Grill). There's also a jewelry shop, kayak tour company, and rental shop for bikes, snorkels, beach chairs, coolers... The walk to Kapaa is kind of far and we couldn't find a very good direct route which left us to walk on the side of the highway. We didn't spend much time there because of that, and would just drive. We stayed in room 359 which had a great view and was quiet. It has AC, free wifi, TV & DVD player, a queen bed, 2x beach chairs, beach umbrella, kitchen containing a mini fridge (no freezer), microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, some bbq supplies and all cutlery and tableware. We shopped at Walmart before arriving and bought breakfast foods, snacks, and drinks and had lots of space to put everything. The room was well-used and showed signs of wear and tear but we really were only there to sleep. Overall if you're looking for an oceanfront property that's close to amenities, has a great pool area and beach and comfortable room, choose the Islander on the Beach! I'd recommend to any friends or family heading Kauai. read more

Didn't visit their pool bar till our last night there, but wished we'd visited earlier. Great specials, very relaxing. I didn't know Jeff Lebowski had a brother, and that he works the bar at The Aston Islander! Even if you're not staying at the Aston, visit their pool bar just to hang out at the bar. I think I've found my Kaua'i home away from home. What's to love: * Most rooms have ocean views of Waipouli Beach * Reasonable rates * WiFi, PlayStation 3 and DVD rentals included in your amenity fee * No parking fee * Adjacent small plaza with a few restaurants and shops We stayed here in February 2015, and our room with a garden view (no ocean view) was $115 per night, not including taxes and fees. Prices have gone up quite a bit since then. Depending on how much you want to spend, this hotel also offers rooms with partial and full ocean views. We were ok with the cheaper room because the beach was only a 200-foot walk away! Our room included two queen beds, a TV with a PlayStation 3 connected, and a kitchenette with a sink, minifridge and microwave. There's a mandatory daily amenity fee of $18 which includes WiFi and unlimited PS3 game and DVD rentals. The rental kiosk had a decent selection, and we ended up watching a few movies and playing a couple games during our stay. Darn you Aston Islander for getting me hooked on Minecraft! There's a coin-op laundry facility on site, but no gym. There is no continental breakfast, and only coffee is served in the morning next to the lobby. There's a swimming pool and hot tub in the courtyard, which are useful because swimming in the ocean is not advised due to the strong currents that Kaua'i is known for. I took a dip in the ocean anyway, and while it was shallow even 100 feet out, there were lots of rough rocks that the waves kept pushing me into. So yes, don't bother trying to swim in the ocean here. When on vacation, sometimes you just want to unwind and veg out. Aston Islander made that easy! read more

HOTEL: Had a very reasonable stay at the very reasonable Aston Islander. If you're looking for full service, keep moving, this is not your scene. Lobby handles your check-in, can book activities, and they are guardians of the pool towels, and that's about it for services. The site has rustic tiki decor, grounds are clean and well kept, with the pool and bar being the center of activity (but not action). OCEANFRONT ROOM (#325): I've never stayed anywhere this close to the ocean! Maybe thirty feet from the water? You can see up the beautiful coast toward Lihue, you catch every sunrise since you're facing east (7am in February, very easy to wake up for), and at night the ocean rocks you to sleep. I'm not sure you'll find this view and proximity anywhere at these prices, so I strongly urge you to go for it! Ocean view rooms look okay, they're further back and angled, and the garden view I don't recommend, they're less gardens than sad sideyards. The furnishings are fine, clean, dated but not depressingly so like much of Waikiki. We used our kitchenette daily - microwave, mini-fridge, coffee maker, and sink. I'd go out to the lanai to zone out to the view or the waves whenever I could. POOL BAR: You should make a stop at the pool bar on your day of arrival. There were several regulars and condo owners who were very friendly, gave us recommendations, and just made us feel warmly welcomed. Strong mai tai was one of the better ones we had on our stay. We also made it out to the hot tub once, which had a lively conversation going, though we did not participate. RESORT FEE: $18 daily covers wi-fi, DVDs, newspaper, local calls, I guess. We used the wi-fi a bit but certainly not worth the $97 total. I can't wait until hotels are forced to give up this sham, but no reason to blame Aston, they're all doing it. PARKING: Yes, the main lot is small and you'll often have to park in the outer lot, which is, um, directly behind the main lot. We're talking a long minute to get to the lobby. Anyone who complains about the walk is lazy. LOCATION: Big draw for me to be on the Coconut Coast, equidistant to points north and south. Kapaa is a very good base with several eateries, supermarkets, the two closest places the island has to nightlife, and so on. I was worried that the area would be too utilitarian (i.e. ugly), but that wasn't the case at all. On-site is the Kilauea Fish Market, a must-try, and Trees Lounge, which we missed out on. Coconut Marketplace, maybe 40 yards behind the Aston, is a sad shell of an outdoor mall in need of a buyer and some real rehab. Overall, the location and the oceanfront view made it more than worthwhile for us, and we would return. I can't understand why anyone would not recommend this Aston unless you want a true resort experience - we blew our savings on food instead. read more

This was our first trip to Hawaii & Kauai is beautiful. We visited during a historic rainfall & lightening storm that did severe damage to the North side of the island. The staff at Aston are very friendly & helpful. The rooms are clean & comfortable. Need some updating but having a small refrigerator, microwave & coffee pot was great. Hotel provided Keurig pods each morning & coupon/ticket to coffee shop. We ate at several places right at resort. Enjoyed the pool & hot tub as well as the poolside bar. On Sat night there was live music at the pool. Resort provided beach towels and recommendations. It rained everyday at resort but we found sunshine on south side of island each day. Too much damage in north and we stayed away from that part of the island. Overall I would recommend this resort - very quiet & laid back. Great place for value. read more

I was a fan of this place because we were looking for a great, calm, low-key place to wrap up our Hawaiian vacation. The women working at the front desk definitely took the Aston Islander from a 3 to a 4, they were so friendly and welcoming! We checked in and were given great information and informed of the amenities (free DVDs, a free drink at the tiki bar, and morning coffee / paper). While I wouldn't have expected to want the DVD rental option, it was a nice relaxing way to see a new movie after a long day in the sun! The Islander is located between two other resorts and adjacent to the Coconut Shops (which were under renovation when we were there). This definitely adds to the appeal, as the Lava Lava Beach Club (2 min walk down the beach) is brand new and has performers and great beach furniture in their areas. We didn't visit the other resort, but it looked like it had a good offering of food / drinks. The downfalls include a daily amenities fee (which I would have rather paid in my rental fee, other than feeling like I'm paying $18 a day for very little), the lack of parking in the lot caused us to park on the street two nights, and the final day the pool was closed. A good option in Kapa'a, especially if you are planning to go off-site to see more of the island! read more

We enjoyed our stay at Aston Islander on the Beach. The pictures on their website describes the resort and the room layout very clearly. We stayed in the Maui building and our room is comfortable, I'm giving them 5 star for location and convenience but the beds and tub could use some upgrading but overall, not bad! It served its purpose. The Maui building is conveniently situated near the back parking so it was easy for us to go in and out of the place. The room has a small sink (mini dish soap provided), complete with plates, forks, spoons and knives. It also has a microwave, keurig with coffee pods provided and a small fridge. Shampoo/Conditioner dispensers are attached to the wall. Travel sized body wash and lotions are also provided. They do not clean the rooms unless you stay longer than 5 days so keep that in mind. Nice and friendly front desk staff, they get an A+ for giving us complimentary box of chocolates and a bottle of wine for our anniversary. The grounds are well maintained and there's always someone cleaning and picking up trash/debris. Roosters and chickens all over the place, don't worry, they won't bother you! They have lounge chairs all over the shore area so you can just sit, relax and enjoy the sound of the waves. They don't have elevators but the stairs did not bother us because we could use some steps after eating all the yummies! The resort is next to the Coconut Marketplace so there's plenty of shopping and food options. The hotel location is very close to all landmarks so that's a definite plus. I highly recommend this place and will definitely stay here again! read more

I stayed here for 6 days 5 night and was excited about staying at the islander beach front room we booked! My uncle had stayed here before and love it! Granted units are owned by different owners so keep this in mind! I would never book my room again. Room 323 was the grossest place I've ever stayed! We ended a room that smelt off, every towel was covered in stains and crust matter with a strong BO smell! And 2 out of the 4 pillow cases were stained with red splatter and one highly yellow stained pillow. The sheets were stained with huge black marks as well. I immediately reached out and they did send the cleaning lady out with a "cleaner" set several hours later, but then also said to me she didn't realize we had 3 guest and gave us another beach towel since we only had two! (And they charge for any extra towels you ask for) I find this strange because it clearly stated on my form 2 adults 1 child. We also had no extra fun game or beach toys like the other rooms supply, we didn't have a hanging stand up rack or an outside rack on the wall to hang our suits or towel. To top it all off the pull out couch by our bed had the largest cockroach I had ever seen crawling on it and when we moved the couch it had baby's/cockroaches living under it! Also was not swept or cleaned under there since i don't know when! I reached out to the cleaning lady twice and she never responded. When I reached out to only a number I could txt they were very rude and did not apologize for any of these issues. I couldn't wait to leave just because how disgusting this room was! Very sad about our stay but enjoyed kauai very much! Do not book in room 323!!! Most of the other rooms I've seen look very well kept up but do your research, picture are very different then this room was and the tub is not a jacuzzi like it states, even though we would have never used it by how disgusting this place was on its own. read more

Honestly, I preferred this hotel over the nicer resort we checked into later. The rooms were a little outdated, but clean nonetheless. We were given our room key by a security guard because we arrived pretty late in the evening. The hotel is right next to the beach and the beach was actually very comfortable. There aren't a ton of people crowding the beach and we could actually swim in the water without any rocks poking us. The hotel is next to a little shopping center with a ton of food and market which was very convenient - less than a 5 minute walk. Also the BEST coffee next to the hotel was there (Imua). read more

Great hotel and as the name implies, on the beach! We booked ocean front via an email special and were not disappointed. Room was nice, with a comfy queen bed, sleeper sofa, flat screen TV, and even a PS3 if a gamer is amongst you. Typical room amenities that included a small kitchenette with coffee maker, microwave, fridge and cabinet space. Beautiful grounds, great beach for catching the sunrise or working on your tan. Nice pool and hot tub with a couple cabanas, and a bar that opens around 3pm with plenty of libations and a big screen tv to keep you happy. Hotel is within walking distance of Coconut Market Place, which offers numerous little knick knack shops and restaurants, from sushi to Italian to Chinese. There is also a nice beach front restaurant that's part of a neighboring property a short walk away as well, Lava-Lava. Free daily coffee via coupon at a coffee house right next to the hotel ( amazing java ) and lots of aloha hospitality from the hotel staff. Free wifi, DVDs and parking as well! We did get the ocean view we requested but the patio chairs were all worn out which did not made it enjoyable to sit out to enjoy the view. I did the package through Costco Travel. This hotel location is convenient if you want a good location equal distance for south/west side and northshore. When it comes to hotels, quietness is key. I loved our room, 342, highest floor. It was quiet the 5 nights we were there. You can also hear the ocean sounds at night. Do note that there is a difference between OCEANVIEW vs. OCEANFRONT. Our room was oceanview which means you can see the ocean, but not directly in front of the ocean. Most people know that, but this should help others. The trail right behind the hotel has a great view, and easily walking distance to the Lava Lava beach club. You can also walk to the Lanikai fine dining restaurant couple hotels down on this trail. Great restaurant for primerib/steak. Driving from airport was only a good 15-20 minutes in the morning. If you plan to book some kayaking, there is Kayak adventures right in front of the lobby to the left, which is where they meet in the morning before going to the Wailua river, so it was super convenient. If you also book through Costco Travel, you get vouchers for IMUA coffee each morning. IMUA coffee was a great coffee shop right next to the lobby. Overall, I really had a great experience at this quiet hotel for my honeymoon. No complaints. read more

The Islander is a comfortable little hotel/condo complex on the beach in Kapa'a. Rooms are snug, barely enough space for two people, but ours was in one of the true ocean-front buildings with an amazing view over the ocean. I got up early every morning to watch the sun rise. The property has a pool and hot tub with an outdoor bar. The bar was a feature I didn't expect to see in this category. It was a nice addition. Waited 4 hrs for our room, wasted an entire afternoon. We would've planned something if we knew it would've been that long of a wait. Instead, they kept assuring us it would be 15 more minutes. Stay somewhere else. The staff couldn't care less. This is NOT a hotel. It's a bunch of cheap timeshares in a undesirable tourist trap development. I highly recommend this place. Book the hotel and not through air b&b or another site. This condo complex is literally on the ocean with incredible views. One strong recommendation is to bring a power strip because the is limited outlets and no usb connections. Oh and wild chickens are everywhere. read more

I was very disappointed in this place. The front desk person was not friendly and they failed to tell us that they would be turning off our water for the majority of time we stayed there. We came to our room and discovered a note giving us 30 minutes to take showers and brush our teeth. They turned off the water between the hours of 11pm-5 am which is just insane. This was my first night with the guy I'm seeing and we can't flush the toilet or wash our hands. The hotel cost just as much as a Marriott or Hilton and it felt like a motel. I scored them higher Bc I did like the shampoos/ conditioner and then bed was clean and comfortable. I however do not recommend this place. read more

My husband and i chose the Aston islander for our last 2 days on Kauai. It was not as resort on the beach style as we expected but it got the job done for our last couple of days on the island. It's in town, on the beach and right near lava lava beach club so you can walk there for drinks or breakfast. We also loved the pool side cabana and spent a whole day on it! I wouldn't stay there for my entire trip but still recommend it. read more

Very affordable rates for a hotel that is literally right on the beach. Our check in process was smooth and every staff member we interacted with was pleasant. Situated in Kapa'a, Islander on the Beach was close to the airport and an easy jumping off point for adventures all over the island. Their pool area was clean and well kept with lots of lounge chairs and the hot tub was a nice relaxing way to spend the evenings. We technically reserved a Garden Room but being on the 3rd floor gave us a peek at the water and at night we could hear the waves. Other amenities and pros included: free DVD rentals, a patio to enjoy the warm ocean breezes, free pool/beach towels, $20 off at Lava Lava Beach Club next door, one free drink a day at the nearby Imoua coffee shop, and large comfy bed. It's not a 5 star fancy resort, but it is a simple, clean, relaxing beach front hotel (rough waters-no swimming.) I'd definitely stay here again when visiting Kauia. read more

Pretty nice place. It's not really a luxury resort with all the bells and whistles but a condo rental type resort which is what I was looking for. The lobby is nice going in and the ground are well maintained. Its a stones throw to the beach. They have a full tiki bar right next to the pool which has a jacuzzi. There are plenty of dining options and shopping next door and just a short drive there are supermarkets and common staples like Ross which is clutch for any last minute items you may have forgotten The room was clean, decent sized and well maintained. Cable, DVD rental included, and some complimentary drinks (non-Alcoholic) The price is very reasonable and economical. This is a great valued for a place to stay in Kauai when comparing to others. I like that it was central, close to the airport and had lots to do such as easy access to waterfalls, hikes, smith family Luau and the Fern grotto. I cuts the drive in half when heading to the west side for access to the Napali coast, south shore and waimea canyon and easy access to the north shore as well. 15 minutes or less to the airport. If you plan on travelling a lot around the island staying Kapaa definitely helps to the most efficiently. Nice cozy and quiet place to stay. read more

Wow! This place is sweet. Our room had an incredible view of the beach and ocean and was right next to the restaurant next door, which became our regular spot. We loved walking the beautifully manicured grounds and getting up early to watch the incredible sunrise. Bed was comfy and the room was perfect. It may not be the most updated resort in the island, and the pool is small, but I couldn't recommend it higher. Great deal for the money. read more

BUYER BEWARE: Some of these units are privately owned and managed. We got a beachfront for our anniversary trip froma private owner. The bad: our room was terribly maintained. Mold, old furniture, dirt, it was terribe and I could have cried. The good: beach access, breath taking views. We watched whales breaching from the lanai. The Ugly: forced to decide if we wanted to go elsewhere and spend the money to sleep without worrying about bugs or the dirt. We did decide to leave and salvage our anniversary trip. The owners were nice but didnt refund our money which we understood. However the pics online versus what was real were majorly different!!! I gave 1 stars for the view. The pool was small and unheated. If the rooms that were not private were as well maintained and clean as the outside, this would be a good affordable place to stay. -January 2015 read more

So we were looking for a place to stay around New Years and the rentals in Poipu and Princeville were really expensive, so after reading some reviews we realized staying in Kapa'a would be a great fit for us. The Aston IOB is located in the center or Kapa'a on the beach behind the coconut marketplace and just a minute drive of downtown historic Kapa'a where there are lots of restaurants and two supermarkets. Additionally, you can rent bikes right outside of the hotel for the famous Kapa'a bike path that goes along the ocean. The location is in between the South and North sides of the Island so what is an day excursion if you are staying in the resort towns can only be a half day. The front desk staff were very friendly so were the activities coordinators.There are many activities you can book at the hotel, like helicopter tours, Na Pali coast tours, kayaking, snorkeling, luaus, etc.There is also a big parking lot outside but during the holidays it can fill up, but there is also overflow parking in the Coconut Marketplace, which is a mall, but at the time was going through a renovation so the only shops were a coffee place, ice cream shop, Crazy Shirt, and a gift shop. There are also many ocean view and ocean front rooms. Request a first floor ocean front room so you can walk to the beach out of your room or to the pool or BBQ. It is awesome that they have BBQs so you can grill your own fresh local fish which is a real money saver! They have grill tools behind the front desk. The rooms are pretty big with a little kitchen area with a sink, microwave, and utensils which comes in handy to make some brekkie in the morning so you can get out to do your sightseeing earlier than the other tourists. By the balcony there is a couch, coffee table and desk so you can relax after a day on the island to go over your pictures or plan the next day. There is also a cafe set on the balcony so you can sit out there and watch the sunrise (hotel faces east). There is a nice pool area with a Jacuzzi they refill every morning, but the jacuzzi is a little small. There is also a bar in the pool area that has a happy hour with cheap island drinks! You get tickets for a free lemonade when you check in and for $1 you can add rum to it! Yay! FYI there are not elevators so request a first floor room if you need special access. read more
