Very affordable rates for a hotel that is literally right on the beach. Our check in process was smooth and every staff member we interacted with was pleasant. Situated in Kapa'a, Islander on the Beach was close to the airport and an easy jumping off point for adventures all over the island. Their pool area was clean and well kept with lots of lounge chairs and the hot tub was a nice relaxing way to spend the evenings. We technically reserved a Garden Room but being on the 3rd floor gave us a peek at the water and at night we could hear the waves. Other amenities and pros included: free DVD rentals, a patio to enjoy the warm ocean breezes, free pool/beach towels, $20 off at Lava Lava Beach Club next door, one free drink a day at the nearby Imoua coffee shop, and large comfy bed. It's not a 5 star fancy resort, but it is a simple, clean, relaxing beach front hotel (rough waters-no swimming.) I'd definitely stay here again when visiting Kauia. read more

BUYER BEWARE: Some of these units are privately owned and managed. We got a beachfront for our anniversary trip froma private owner. The bad: our room was terribly maintained. Mold, old furniture, dirt, it was terribe and I could have cried. The good: beach access, breath taking views. We watched whales breaching from the lanai. The Ugly: forced to decide if we wanted to go elsewhere and spend the money to sleep without worrying about bugs or the dirt. We did decide to leave and salvage our anniversary trip. The owners were nice but didnt refund our money which we understood. However the pics online versus what was real were majorly different!!! I gave 1 stars for the view. So we were looking for a place to stay around New Years and the rentals in Poipu and Princeville were really expensive, so after reading some reviews we realized staying in Kapa'a would be a great fit for us. The Aston IOB is located in the center or Kapa'a on the beach behind the coconut marketplace and just a minute drive of downtown historic Kapa'a where there are lots of restaurants and two supermarkets. Additionally, you can rent bikes right outside of the hotel for the famous Kapa'a bike path that goes along the ocean. The location is in between the South and North sides of the Island so what is an day excursion if you are staying in the resort towns can only be a half day. The front desk staff were very friendly so were the activities coordinators.There are many activities you can book at the hotel, like helicopter tours, Na Pali coast tours, kayaking, snorkeling, luaus, etc.There is also a big parking lot outside but during the holidays it can fill up, but there is also overflow parking in the Coconut Marketplace, which is a mall, but at the time was going through a renovation so the only shops were a coffee place, ice cream shop, Crazy Shirt, and a gift shop. There are also many ocean view and ocean front rooms. Request a first floor ocean front room so you can walk to the beach out of your room or to the pool or BBQ. It is awesome that they have BBQs so you can grill your own fresh local fish which is a real money saver! They have grill tools behind the front desk. The rooms are pretty big with a little kitchen area with a sink, microwave, and utensils which comes in handy to make some brekkie in the morning so you can get out to do your sightseeing earlier than the other tourists. By the balcony there is a couch, coffee table and desk so you can relax after a day on the island to go over your pictures or plan the next day. There is also a cafe set on the balcony so you can sit out there and watch the sunrise (hotel faces east). There is a nice pool area with a Jacuzzi they refill every morning, but the jacuzzi is a little small. There is also a bar in the pool area that has a happy hour with cheap island drinks! You get tickets for a free lemonade when you check in and for $1 you can add rum to it! Yay! FYI there are not elevators so request a first floor room if you need special access. read more

Pretty nice place. It's not really a luxury resort with all the bells and whistles but a condo rental type resort which is what I was looking for. The lobby is nice going in and the ground are well maintained. Its a stones throw to the beach. They have a full tiki bar right next to the pool which has a jacuzzi. There are plenty of dining options and shopping next door and just a short drive there are supermarkets and common staples like Ross which is clutch for any last minute items you may have forgotten The room was clean, decent sized and well maintained. Cable, DVD rental included, and some complimentary drinks (non-Alcoholic) The price is very reasonable and economical. This is a great valued for a place to stay in Kauai when comparing to others. I like that it was central, close to the airport and had lots to do such as easy access to waterfalls, hikes, smith family Luau and the Fern grotto. I cuts the drive in half when heading to the west side for access to the Napali coast, south shore and waimea canyon and easy access to the north shore as well. 15 minutes or less to the airport. If you plan on travelling a lot around the island staying Kapaa definitely helps to the most efficiently. Nice cozy and quiet place to stay. read more

Wow! This place is sweet. Our room had an incredible view of the beach and ocean and was right next to the restaurant next door, which became our regular spot. We loved walking the beautifully manicured grounds and getting up early to watch the incredible sunrise. Bed was comfy and the room was perfect. It may not be the most updated resort in the island, and the pool is small, but I couldn't recommend it higher. Great deal for the money. read more

We stayed at the Aston Islander on the beach August 28-September 1, 2015 and had an incredible time. We purchased a "garden view" room but had a lovely side view of the ocean. Our room was the perfect size for us and featured a nice lanai overlooking he grounds and ocean. We loved having a small kitchen and appreciated that they supplied a Keurig with fresh K-cups every morning. The room also featured a flatscreen tv, tile floors and granite countertops throughout. The hotel is centrally located about half way between Lihue and Hanalei. It sits directly on the waterfront and has a beautiful pool, bar and hot tub overlooking the ocean. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The grounds were very beautiful and well kept. We also really liked the free DVD rental system at the hotel (like redbox). And as a bonus, we got engaged at nearby Kapaa park on our last night! :) read more

As has been noted, it's not the Hilton or one of the other major resorts, so don't go expecting 5-star luxury. So if you go expecting a clean room, mostly friendly staff, just about right on the beach, with a pool and hot tub (very hot tub), in Kappa, a nicely centrally located town, well then you won't be disappointed. The rooms have microwave, coffee maker and fridge, so go to Food Land or Safeway and stock up on breakfast and snacks. Oh, and if you see a small white-black.gray stray cat with a clipped ear, be nice to it...give it some fish and clean water and it'll be your buddy for the duration, sleeping on your deck (see pic). read more

No front staff upon my arrival then I was made to feel like it was my fault that they had no one there to check me in and was hounded for two days to work around their limited front desk staff availability to come "officially check-in". OK grounds with security guards who don't seem to understand that if you let people stay in the jacuzzi a couple of minutes past 10 pm, the world will keep spinning. Bless their hearts---they literally watch their watches and when the clock strikes 10 pm, you are literally herded out of the hot tub and pool. I asked to extend my stay one extra night due to a change of plans and the front desk never called me or texted me to let me know if it was possible. I simply upgraded to a much nicer property down the road. I would NOT recommend this place at all. You can't swim at the beach in front of their property, there is no restaurant on site, so spa and the service was horrific. read more

Nice hotel! The location is great, close to the north shore and close to Poipu. The property grounds are beautiful and very well taken care of. The beach is pretty but not the kind of beach you would be swimming at. Head to Poipu or Hanalei for that. The staff was lovely and our room was very clean. The bed wasn't the most comfortable so I removed a star. But man, I could look at the view from our patio forever. read more

I'm so behind on my reivews, but we visited here in May of 2018. I am rating this 4 stars--based on the fact it is a 2-3 star hotel. It is not a luxury hotel, and we knew that going in. We decided to split our vacation up, stay here 5 nights and then 5 nights at Grand Hyatt, which I will also do a review on. We decided if we were out sightseeing, hiking, and adventuring that we didn't need to spend so much on a room, then the second half was spa days, good food, and pool lounging at the Grand Hyatt. So..... with that in mind, we had a really great stay here. The pool is small but the guests are friendly. There were grills by the pool and while we didn't, alot of people seemed to cook out there. The location was great. Not too far to Hanalei and hiking on that side of the island. We didn't venture to Poipou from there, but it would have been convenient to do so. There is a beach area, but no chairs really. We didn't spend much time in the room. Beds were ok (full size maybe?) But for the price, we think we did well. read more

Our stay was wonderful! Upon arrival they allowed us to store our luggage since check in wasn't for several hours later. Once check in was ready the upgraded our room to an even better ocean view. Our room was right across from the lava lava beach club directly next to us at another resort. (Less than a minute walk) which they offered 20% off and had a great happy hour. Our beach was never very busy and always had lounge chairs available for the beach! Definitely would recommend this hotel! It is also directly located behind the coconut market which has tons of shops, some food option and a market that was essentially an ABC store but with a fully deli, coffee shop, and tons of food and grocery items! read more

We were there for ten days and rained all day every day except for a tiny sun break for a few hours. Can't really swim there b/c so much rock and coral. At the ABC store a gallon of water will set you back $5 as well as a bell pepper. Crazy prices. Neighbors had their fishing poles stolen. Not my kind of Island. Or at least not that part of the island. When the flight attendant asked me where we were going to stay in Kauai and I said Kapa'a he laughed and said he was sorry. read more

We were coming in with little notice for a funeral. From the moment we checked in we were impressed by the grounds, the staff and the rooms. The hotel has that old island charm. While they said they were at 100% occupancy, it didn't feel crowded. We were near the pool and the bar most of the day. The bartender Julie was great. There is a nice barbecue area that seemed neat and clean. They even provide tongs at the front desk. There are nearby stores to pick up groceries within walking distance. Our room was cool and comfortable. The bed was extremely comfortable. There are no elevators and the buildings are 3 stories. If you have physical limitations, let them know early. We usually do a family staycation at Turtle Bay on Oahu. But after this visit to Islander on the beach, this will be our new go to spot. Even with airfare, it was less expensive that the villas. They offer free airport shuttle service with 48 hours notice. I highly recommend. Go and enjoy a relaxing vacation. read more

Yelp perfectly describes Aston Islander on the Beach... "A-OK." First time in Kauai and we were blown away by the island! (Reminds me of my hometown in the Philippines!) The Islander was a decent place to stay for our week long trip. The staff was friendly and always greeted us as we went in and out of Kauai 328. Our room had all the necessities, but it did not blow me away. The bathroom was pretty dark and the tub had some trouble draining, but we didn't let that ruin the trip. We didn't need housekeeping everyday, but when we requested our room to be cleaned, they were spot on. Some people complain about parking, but honestly, the overflow lot is 10 steps away! Best thing about The Islander is the awesome beachfront view and vibe. It was laid back and easy going. If you needed anything from the store, the market is a short 5-10 minute walk. The big downer was the pool. The renovations were scheduled to be done during the middle of our stay, but was still being worked out as of November 26th. We booked way in advance and was never told anything about the pool not being accessible until we were checking in. Oh, and the resort fee... bleh! For 7 nights, it comes out to roughly $135- honestly, WiFi and DVD rentals are not worth the extra resort fees. Again, the pool and the resort fees were not deal breakers, but it would have been nice to be able to soak our feet in the hot tub after doing the Hanakapi'ai Falls hike or use that extra cash for some spa time! Yelp should really allow half stars because The Islander really deserves a 3.5 stars in my book. read more

This was a terrible experience. Although it was a great location next to the ocean with a swimming pool and hot tub, that was probably the only good thing. The staff is rude and not fast, efficient or helpful. They spent so much time monitoring our pool/beach towels when they should work on servicing the guests better in other ways. The landscape of the property is nice, but there was lots of construction going on outside our beach view room. The sights and sounds of construction were very distracting and annoying. It was difficult for us and our baby to rest or sleep when this was happening in the day. This construction was hidden from us until check in, The staff should have called all guests with rooms close to the construction and either offered a discount or offered to relocate them to another room. The inside of the rooms was not very clean. There was visible signs of water damage, mold and rust everywhere from the walls, floors and ceiling. The rooms smelled old and musty, almost like mold or mildew. The hotel staff seemed to never be ready and present at the front desk. It was almost always empty. When staff would see or hear us at the front desk, they often emerge from the back room, trying to conceal the food they just shoved in their mouth. They could not even finish chewing or wiping their mouth before coming out. Our whole trip it appeared they always hang out back there and eat. We requested a baby crib delivered to our room during our reservation. We get to our room to find our room without this item. We had to request it again, to find out the cribs they have are older and smelly. The property setup is confusing. It claims to be beachfront, yet theres not much setup for guests to be on the beach. There were a few old, rusty beach chairs scattered along the beach sand. There did not appear to have a safe or enjoyable beachfront setup for guests. The property also appears to be part hotel and part condo/leasing. This seemed confusing and uncomfortable. 2 doors down from our unit was another unit with more personal touches, such as a doormat at the front door and decorations/personal items on their balcony. It felt like we were tricked into thinking this was a complete hotel, but we felt like it was a run down apartment complex. This was supposed to be a fun, relaxing, and memorable trip of a lifetime. Based on our experience with this property and staff, it was so terrible we do not think we would return or recommend it anyone. We tried to issue these complaints to staff, but they did not seem concerned or helpful. We requested a refund or credit but they said this is out of their hands and to reach out to Costco Travel since we booked through them. read more

Bottom line is I will definitely be staying here again. First impression was great. Checked in and everyone was friendly. Room was clean and tidy. I immediately ran to the giant sliding glass door and opened it to check out our ocean view, which was awesome. Day 2- got up early and hit the beach- practically all of em. We drove the whole island. When we returned I walked straight to the sliding glass door to let in the ocean breeze. BUT when I opened it, the handle broke off in my hand. My husband looked at me as if I were some tiny super hero. We called the front desk and they put us in the room 2 doors down, no questions asked. More cool stuff- there is a pool and jacuzzi with a small bar (really funny bartender) just steps from the ocean. And a couple of BBQ's, which we made very good use of. The resort is perfectly located on the island, 25 mins to Hanalei and 25 mins to Poipu. read more

We were in the ocean every day. Please be very aware of the rip currents. The rooms are comfortable and know that this is not for the luxury minded folks. If you are looking for a hotel that is quaint, peaceful, intimate and steps away from the beach and restaurant, this is your spot. Stay in an ocean front room. This was our first time visiting Kauai, and staying in this hotel made it even more special for us. Just entering the property, you can see that everything is well maintained and the ocean is just footsteps away. We had an ocean view room, it was just perfect being able to watch and listen to the waves from our room. The room had everything we needed- refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, and even dishes and plates with soap to clean them. My favorite was walking out to the beach for the sunrises. So wonderful to just walk outside and it's right there! The location was close to several restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and most of the tours we went on as well. So convenient! Hopefully our next trip to Kauai won't be too far away, and we will definitely be back here! read more

Positive points: Quiet, clean, convenient to all sides of the island and close to shopping. Beach access is great as is the airport. Surprisingly never heard any air traffic overhead. Negatives: Each room has its own chicken/rooster that will awaken you at 7:03am, 8:22am and snooze until 9:48am. It will also awaken you at 2:55pm following your afternoon nap. This was a convenient condo centrally located on the island, on the beach, with a good price tag. We wanted to have decent accessibility to both the north and south shore and this put us at about 1.5 hours each way. The condo we rented was not associated with the front desk, management, or cleaning crew. We rented from a VRBO host. However that being said, this review of the complex may still be helpful. The grounds were clean, well kept, and had security on duty walking throughout the complex. There was never an instance I saw that was questionable but it is peace of mind knowing not just anyone can wonder about the grounds. The beach was only steps away from us and was generally pretty quiet. There is also a pool with a poolside bar that seemed pretty busy in the evenings. The coconut marketplace was nice to stroll through and stop at the shops, although it would've been nice if there was more variety (there were a lot of empty rentals). The restaurant selections were small but the real hidden gem is the sleeping giant grill. My only real complaint with this rental is that the walls seemed so thin that we could hear the neighbors on all sides of us loud and clear. But if that doesn't bother you then I would definitely recommend this place. Pros: convenient, cheap, on the beach, close to shopping and food, centrally located on the island, and washer/dryer accessibility. Cons: thin walls, limited parking, traffic getting in and out of the complex during peak times. read more

The only thing working for the Aston Islander on the Beach is the proximity to the beach. You can hear the waves crash on to the shore and see the sunrise from the Lanai of your room. Other than that, the place is in need of serious repair. The Pool was closed while were there and some construction was going on too. We decided to get a massage in our room, but the constant noise from the maintenance was a huge nuisance. The bar is nice and it was our hangout place in the evening before dinner. You can just up and walk to the beach and hang out there. read more

Yes, I'd stay here again. The GOOD -Location. Central for driving to the north, west and south side of the island. -Spacious room. It was more than just a bed with the small sofa and table. -Bathroom. Recently upgraded, it had a nice clean counter and a curved shower curtain so the curtain doesn't attack you in the shower. -Clean grounds. Gardeners were out every day picking up leaves and everything else. -Concierge. She had hand drawn maps of certain areas that provided all you needed to know. -Microwave, mini fridge, flatware, place settings, sponge and dish soap. -AC. They had it and it worked! The BAD -Synthetic sheets. They're itchy and make me sweat. -Pool towels. They might run out! How do you run out of towels when you have a pool and there are a ton of beaches nearby? -Parking at night. If you get back later in the evening, you might not have a parking space b/c the lot is shared w/The Trees, a popular lounge. Hotel advises to check in w/the evening attendant and they'll direct you to a colored (red) curb where you can park until 9 am the next day or you can park in the driveway. -Beach. It's on the beach, but the beach isn't very wide and you probably won't want to swim there. read more

We stayed there last week for three nights on a ground level ocean front room (123) and to be honest, we loved it. 5 steps to the beach, 30 to the pool and close to all the local restaurants. The staff, from the front desk, to the cleaning staff, to the pool bar, were great. The room was very nice for a hotel room/condo. It was clean and comfortable. We were close to several restaurants and driving around was easy. Overall, a 4 out of 5. This is not a luxury hotel. It is a great condo that rents out rooms. Booked this place through a website and not directly from the hotel. 1 star for location. Pretty much in the middle of everything, so driving around the island want too bad. 1 star for amenities. Not a lot of hotels have a fridge, microwave, toaster, plates and utensils that's ready for to use with the price we paid. Took stars off because the room needed more light. The lamps were not cutting it for us. In addition, one of Rhett lights in the bathroom was not working. The main reason I gave it 2 stars was because of beds were squeaking with every movement/turn. The squeaking was loud that it would wake me up in the middle of the night multiple times. All I wanted was a good nights rest so I can enjoy my following day. Other things to note, ABC store is walking distance (coconut market place). There's also some restaurants by the hotel. read more

The hospitality alone made this place worth 5 stars! We arrived to our room, and inside was a bottle of wine and a box of local chocolates saying "congrats on your engagement!" What an amazing gesture! The staff every day we saw them were so nice and always helping us in any way they could. We only spent one night at the pool and bar area but it had very reasonably priced drinks and the bartender was great. It was so nice sitting in the hot tub at night with some drinks and some great company of other couples who were staying at the hotel. Our room was great. A little outdated but just perfect for our stay. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room other than to sleep and shower, but it had a comfortable bed and a great Kitchenette. We bought some groceries about a mile down the road from us the first day we got there, and had breakfast on the lanai every morning. It was nice having all our dishes, a sink, and a fridge and microwave, so we didn't spend so much time and money going out to eat every morning and lunch. We usually went out to eat at night but that was it. The first day we were there we also walked along the beach and saw a seal! The water is a little rough there but there were people swimming when the waves weren't as choppy. We also rented a car so we went to a bunch of other beaches to swim and snorkel. I also liked the fact that you could rent free DVDs from the hotel. We had a really rainy night one night we were there so we called it a night a littler earlier than usual, and watched some movies in our room for free! Very nice feature. I do wish the lava lava restaurant next door wouldn't have been so expensive, because I would have liked to have gone here, and the coconut marketplace out front only had a few shops open because of renovation. I would have liked to have gone through more of them, but being right in Kapaa there were plenty of local shops to walk though, which we absolutely loved! I'm surprised to see negative reviews of IOB I stayed here in April 2017 for 2 weeks and absolutely had to DRAG myself to the airport on the last day. I loved it! Absolute Heaven. True authentic Kauai experience. I usually tend to stay at higher-end hotels, 4 and 5 star. In fact for part of my visit I stayed at the St Regis in Princeville, which is $600/night. I liked Islander on the Beach better. Note - I stayed in a privately owned condo, not a room owned by the hotel. PROS - Incredibly Relaxing.... Authentic Kauai! This is what Kauai is all about. - Seems to be all 1 bedrooms - not many kids at all (a pro for me, a single). Mostly couples. - Very Quiet - Easy 15 minute drive from airport - Didn't feel crowded at all - Truly Oceanfront. This is probably the closest you can stay to the ocean in all of Kauai. Beautiful ocean views. Get an oceanfront room! - Very convenient to grocery stores and other conveniences. 5 minute drive - Reasonable price CONS - Limited parking spots. Had to hunt for a parking spot most nights for about 10 minutes. But always got a spot. - To me, the 2 best beach areas in Kauai are the North Coast and Poipu. Kapaa is right in between them. You'll be doing a lot of driving to either area. 40 minutes one way to either one. For me, next time I would rather stay in Hanalaei or Princeville. Just a personal preference. - This is being really nit-picky, but the beach is not really a swimming beach. Most beaches in Kauai aren't. There are some crabs on the beach, so you'll need a chair. Again if you want a luxury experience, IOB is not for you. Go to the Hyatt or St Regis Princeville which are beautiful properties but to me, do not feel like Kauai at all. We made a great choice when we decided to stay in the Aston Islander on the Beach. We were looking for a place not too expensive but at the same time nice and with a beach view. We got a room right in front of the beach, so we could sleep with the sound of the sea. The hotel was clean, and really good for a 3-stars hotel. Also, there was a small kitchen in the room. It is located near some stores and in the East side of the island (Kapa'a) which facilitates to move around the island. You can't do a full loop around the island because of Na Pali Coast in the West side. Kapa'a is halfway between the North Shore and South Shore/West. We just had some issues with the check-in that took some time and the bathtub that was clogged. We appreciated our days there. read more

This is not a five star hotel, so if you're looking for plush robes in the hotel room closet, this is not for you. However, there are many reasons to give the Islander on the Beach all five stars. Location: In Kapaa, this hotel is, as others have noted, a great jumping off point for adventures all over the island. But, the town of Kapaa is also great. Some of the best dining choices are here - Lava Lava is great, Fish Express has some of the BEST poke, and numerous food trucks along the main drag provide various dining choices. It's also a wonderful beach that provides a beautiful view of the Sleeping Giant. Weather: Princeville is too rainy, so many head to Poipu. Kapaa is a great middle ground. We had some rainy days over Christmas, but for the most part the weather was wonderful. It is also a bit cooler (just a bit) in the winter, which is nice because high 80's every day is too much for all the hiking we planned on. Can I Really Not Swim at the Hotel's Beach?? Yes and no. I only say "yes" because you should always heed the Hawaii warning, "When in doubt, don't go out". But, I swam almost every day in the ocean - in December - and it was fabulous! I also wore water shoes (there are some rocks on the ocean floor) and I grew up in San Diego, swimming some rough ocean waters often. So, if you're a strong swimmer and don't mind rocks, AND if the swell isn't too much for you to handle, you're all good! Service: Everyone working the hotel desks was so nice and accommodating. Lots of aloha. Pool and Bar Area: Not the fanciest, but the most fun. We had a great time getting to know everyone in the hot tub every night. The bartenders were very friendly and locals often hang out at this little bar, sometimes playing some music. Friends we met at other, fancier hotels (the ones next door) noted that our area looked more fun! Restaurants: Sure, technically there is no official restaurant of the islander, but Lava Lava is practically on the hotel grounds it's so close. It's good, but pricey. To be honest, we liked everything we got except for their flatbread pizzas, which were meh. Also right on the grounds is Sleeping Giant Grille, which has AWESOME grinds that are very affordable. They're also BYOB so you can get some local beers at the nearby ABC and drink them at their outdoor tables. The other nearby restaurant, Trees, is terrible. But, they have good nightlife. Just don't eat there unless you're in a pinch:). The Room! How could I forget to talk about the room? We had a wonderful ocean view. The room was okay, but again, not a five star hotel. The bed was not that great and the bathroom needs updating. Looks just like the pics they have online. Bottom line - I would absolutely stay here again. I love Kauai. read more

Nice quiet property on the beach. Parking is free. There is a resort fee per night that covers things like parking, free movie rentals, a nice but small pool and free coffee or mango lemonade at the bar. Most rooms have at least an ocean view and a balcony. The rooms are considered a studio which has a mini fridge, microwave, kitchen sink and basic utensils and dishes. The rooms are clean and we'll appointed bur not luxurious in any way. Floors are tile which is great in the tropical climate. I thought this was a solid beachfront property. The beach is not great for swimming though; at least not in October. There are many places nearby that are suitable though, including Lyndgate Park. The pool bartender was friendly and the drinks were good. If you stay here make sure to walk next door to the Lava Lava club at least for happy hour drinks and pupus. read more

Fantastic resort with some rooms mere steps from the beach. Pool and hot tub also very close. Our room had kitchenette, minus the stove, although I think that may be an option in some rooms. There are lots of shops and a market café within walking distance. read more

Really love the entire entry way to the lobby and how the hard wood floors feel and sound on my feet. The front desk staff were super nice and we got a lovely ocean view spot in the Niihau building. The pool is a little small, but the bar and the hot tub made up for it. Islander on the Beach is conveniently located by the Coconut Market Place and Trees Lounge (a happening bar in Kapaa). Very clean hotel and the lobby reminded me of New Orleans Square at Disneyland. read more

I needed to get away from the main land and just have some me time. I have friends that have visited Kauai, Hawaii 26 times yes I said 26 times and refuse to go to any other island and they suggested this hotel. I stayed here July 2019 for 7 days. Reason being one of the lowest resort fees and the beaches are quite and this hotel is across the street from coconut market place it's a nice little place where you can walk around and has some nice eateries get your nails done hair freshen up you'll need it with the humidity (see my other yelp review) and a nice little market with some good loco moko (good stuff BTW). But this hotel is amazing it's not cheap and it's not expensive it's right in the middle! The beds are comfy they have kauai coffee in the room! You get 4 Keurig cups a day even if you dont use them put them in your luggage you'll thank me when you get home! They will replenish them for you! The staff are amazing! Please show them Aloha spirit! Matter of fact show Aloha spirit when your a tourist on the island! I even picked up trash when I was walking! Say Aloha instead of hello when you're leaving say mahalo! Use your hotel Concierge to book your Excursions for your day man I used them like crazy they know their stuff! Make sure you book early and it's worth every penny! The hotel is very clean! The bartender is very different she doesn't take any crap from anyone make sure you tip her please! This is definitely a place I would be staying at again! Got the AAA discount, prices were very reasonable, can't go wrong for $125/night in paradise. Located in Kauai's central town, Kapaa. It's right behind the Coconut Plantation Marketplace, so easy to miss, and actually, I never saw it in my prior visits to the island. Pool area with a tiki bar, hotel located within feet of the ocean and of course a beach right there, can't go wrong. Each room has a small kitchenette, which included a mini fridge (perfect for water, Juice and much more!), Microwave, and a sink. I loved this combination. One thing I can't stand about traveling is not being able to take back left overs to your room and I hate wasting food. Queen size bed, sofa bed, what more do you need? Lanai had a garden view with semi beach view and being on the third floor, we had an amazing view and an end unit. I slept sound every night. Free Wi-Fi! woot woot! What I didn't like, PARKING. It is atrocious! They share the parking lot with a small number establishments, which includes a restaurant and a night club. So, getting there after 8pm, you have to get a parking permit and park in the shopping center, but keep in mind, must be out by 10am. The parking lot already is not that big, but to have to share it with the lounge? depending on where you park, it can be about a 5 min walk. Aside from the parking, I may be back to this hotel. Honestly, who spends that much time in your room to have to pay over $400. read more

This is has always been my husbands favorite hotel on Kauai and the Islander on the Beach did not disappoint us!

We spent five days at the Aston Islander on the Beach August 20-25, 2015. The people at the check-in desk were very friendly, and we were able to check in a little early. We got a ground floor corner unit that also turned out to be the one closest to the ocean. Being a corner unit, it had a side window that gave us a view down the coast in addition to the great ocean view. Our room was only about 30 yards from the water, and the sound of the waves was very relaxing. There is no lifeguard at this beach so swimming is not recommended, but there are plenty of beaches nearby with lifeguards. The sand is soft, but coarse, so you sink in more making it a little harder to walk in. The upside is that there are no crowds coming here for the beach, so it's more tranquil. We came in part for the tranquility, so it was a perfect fit for us. There are more than enough adventures on Kauai, and the concierge helped set us up with a luau, and a catamaran cruise up the Na Pali coast. The room itself was very clean, and the days we had the room serviced, they did an excellent job. I have a bad back, and often have trouble sleeping well on hotel beds. This one was comfortable, and I had no trouble sleeping, and no aches in the morning. Besides a microwave and refrigerator, the kitchenette has a Keurig coffeemaker which has excellent Kauai coffee k-cups (including decaf). Basic utensils and plates, bowls, cups, etc. are supplied. The Wi-Fi speed is ok, about 5Mbps down/1Mbps up. In the center of the property near the beach there is a small pool and a Jacuzzi, with a gazebo, chairs, bbq grills, and a bar. There is a well-equipped, inexpensive coin-operated laundry room on the premises, and detergent and dryer sheets are complimentary. The parking is all in front of the main building, but none of the buildings were very far away. Along one side of the parking lot there are a few small shops, gear rentals, and a pretty good restaurant. This is a great choice if you're looking for a place to relax, which is centrally located for all of the things Kauai has to offer, north or south. We will be back. read more

We came here to this small, nicely-landscaped three-story hotel after I ran the Honolulu Marathon in December 2007. Very low-key, which was nice after the big hotels, mega traffic, and slow-moving tourist crowds (Mooooo!) in Honolulu. We came to ResortQuest Islander on an Aloha Airlines package deal, so we paid peanuts for our room. It didn't overlook the beach, but our second-story room had a peaceful garden view and balcony. At night, we heard the waves crashing against the shore, which lulled us to sleep. I believe all the rooms have a refrigerator, microwave, and cutlery and dishes, as ours did. There is no restaurant, though you can walk to Coconut Grove Mall (a bit hit-and-miss, although there is REALLY good shave ice at one of the stands there, and Eggberts has a decent breakfast) or to the Hukilau Grill at a neighboring hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful overall, although the front desk can be a bit neglectful at times. We took full advantage of the free Wi-Fi in the newly-renovated and well-appointed open-air lobby. The hotel doesn't have a gym, but we ran on the beach path just a mile or two north. Parking is free, but watch out for the plentiful roosters, lest you inadvertently run them over. There are tons of roosters on the island. Someone needs to bring in a crate of mongoose to keep 'em in check. :-) read more
