This is great local bar in a Jersey City. As others have mentioned, the drinks are cheap. Drafts are $3 but not too interesting (Miller Light, Guinness, Yuengling, Coors Light and one other that I forgot). Bottles are about five bucks and you have a few more options including some seasonals. Shots and other drinks are also available and equally a great value. Nothing super fancy but they'll make you an old fashioned or most other "normal" cocktails. The food is all made to order. I had a cheese pizza which was really good. I was definitely impressed with it. They also have specials for football and other things that you can find out about on Facebook. I believe this has been in their family for more than 50 years. It's definitely a popular place and has a lot of regulars. I would come here again to watch a football or basketball game for sure.

My favorite bar in Jersey City. Every time I come here, bartender Chris C. has always treated me like "part of the family". He is so sweet and down to Earth. The food is delicious (still drooling from the Italian Wedding soup) and the food/drinks are affordable. I also like coming here because I can dress down and relax and be in good company. I'm a fan of Astor Bar & Grill.

It was amazzzing! Blue collar as blue collar gets. Food was outstanding and staff was very attentive. We had the pork cutlet with prosciutto, mozz, and broccoli. I would rate this culinary experience as one of the best in NJ. The pork was succulent and seasoned well. It melts in your mouth! It also came with a generous helping of fries and onion rings. We also had the turkey club sandwich which was not like any other club sandwich I've ever had. Turkey was roasted and cut somewhat thickly. Bacon was crisp and the tomato, lettuce, and bread were all fresh. Items that we didn't order looked equally amazing! Drinks were realllly cheap!!! The only kind of downside was the major generation gap that was clearly present !Enjoy the unique atmosphere and experience of the Astro Bar.

AWESOME!! Have been coming to the Astor for many years and finally got around to writing a review. Debbie and Chris are something special. The Astor is a throwback to when you could walk into a bar and just relax. Cheers!!

I am old enough to be in a bar, and my sister-in-law is 25 and was visiting from out of town. She had her ID available on her phone, but instead of handling the situation professionally, the woman immediately got loud, aggressive, and disrespectful. She kept yelling at me and repeatedly saying she "owns the bar," as if that gave her the right to embarrass and mistreat customers. There was no reason for her to raise her voice, talk down to us, or make the situation so hostile. Enforcing an ID policy is one thing -- being rude, aggressive, and making paying customers feel targeted and unwelcome is another. The way we were treated felt racist, discriminatory, and completely unacceptable. I would never recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of bars that know how to treat people with basic respect.

OVERALL I've officially adopted Grape Vine Tavern as my area dive bar! The prices were cheap and the pace was relaxed, but it was the quick acceptance I felt with the four local gentlemen and Miguel when I first settled in. Plus, you were allowed to bring your own food. And, I always loved supporting small businesses whenever possible. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $36.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). Sadly, they were a cash-only establishment, so they certainly didn't accept my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS
