I'm sorry to say this most recent visit today with family was way below average for what ha been for us always a good experience. Not sure what the issue was but almost no dish was up to snuff. Ordered 2 buffalo wing orders. Not hot temp wise, not crispy. Still good flavor though. Then, split the breakfast burrito and what they call a grilled cheese. When you go to a pub for brunch, on a Saturday after new years, one is looking of twine good comfort food. The grilled cheese here is basically a bacon sandwich with 2 slices of not sure what the cheese was but barely melted. Not a gooey American cheese classic. For the BB, the home fries were barely warm and not tasty of crispy. And the burrito itself just disappointing. Maybe next time CD! read more

What an amazing and convenient location. Maybe if I drank more and sat at the bar and could bar fare regularly this would be my jam. But I'm in the back, the parent section...those of us holding onto dreams of yesteryear when we had lives before bringing our kids to the local pub's parent section. I want to love this cutely decorated neighborhood favorite but after a few visits, I think I'm tapped out. Service is 0. We went a weeknight and the young lady server that night was helpful in ordering and kind but once she took my order was nowhere to be found. Literally. I had to ask 4 other people for everything from water to the check and everything in between. Today was even more abysmal. Asked dude for brunch reccs and he said he doesn't eat breakfast so he can't really help. He took my order and one entire order was missing. At no point was he present or came back to ask how the food was or he'd have seen one person's meal didn't come. An meh "apology" came when he brought the check that I waited 15 minutes for and even longer for him to bring the change. The pancakes were solid and OK. Chicken stir fry from dinner was bland and came in a soupy mess. It was like rice in a soup. Think gumbo w/o the gumbo flavor. I don't think that was the intention. Omelette needed salt or pepper or both. Southwest egg rolls were OK. Wings were dry and unseasoned meat w 0 taste without the sauce. I'm not a bar fly anymore so maybe the rave reviews are for the bar. I don't know but I cannot spend an hour and 15 minutes waiting for food, only to have a fraction of our order arrive, 0 water refills, 0 fs given from the waiters and horrific attitude from the curly haired guy today... I don't get it how he was so miserable at such an early point in his day. I wish I could come here daily bc it's close and right there, but I gets no love from this place. This place is so cozy! Carpe Diem is a homey, unassuming Irish pub in North Hoboken. We got a warm greeting from the bartender when we sat at the bar. For dinner, we moved to a table. I got a market salad with shrimp and it was pretty tasty. The server was friendly and prompt. Carpe Diem is a staple in Hoboken. A hidden gem in uptown On grand street. This is the best place for staple comfort food. The restaurant is very cozy inside with red velvet curtains and fireplace. All the food is always so warm and delicious. We had the pasties for appetizer, which was hot meat potato Pattie's with a hot tasty gravy. I was a little upset that they were out of 'Kates way' which is a open face Turkey bacon and gravy sandwich. That is always my #1 item to order here. I had a small celebration at Carpe and I would recommend 10/10 times. The staff is super friendly and attentive. We had the upstairs room which is perfect for privacy and make it more intimate. Came here for a weekend brunch and drinks . Firstly, service is very good and plenty of seating . Unfortunately they were out of many of the beers I requested on the menu , but it happens . As far as the drinks , Bloody Mary wasn't bad but no olives or celery in it ??? Now on to the food . I was looking forward to it but it was not great . We ordered SW chicken rolls to start which were lukewarm in temp and taste . I ordered a burger with the fries . Burger was average as the meat had no taste but the fries were stellar. My buddy got the breakfast burrito and he ate a little more than half - mediocre as was the burger Overall , there are much better pub food options in Hoboken. Amazing Irish spot. 1) The place is very cozy. It is a warm cozy spot on a rainy day. They also have couches, which is very nice. But, getting the couches is tough. There is always someone stilling there. Also, near some seats are changing stations, which is really nice if your phone charge is running low. 2) I will highly recommend the pasties, it is meat filled pastry with gravy. Perfect Irish pub for a late night drink with locals vibes. The staff here is excellent and the Guinness is top notch. We are big fans of their wings and it's a great spot to catch the Yankees or NHL/NBA. I like this spot. I have been many years ago but recently stopped in for Cinco de Mayo! We ordered tequilla/club soda and 2 specials! The carnitas tacos and chicken nachos. Amazing!!! FOOD I got the INCREDIBLE brie burger. Has bacon in it. The bun was a faintly sweet brioche, just how I like it! The brie was all melty on the patty. I ordered medium rare, but I think next time I'd get just medium. It had slightly raw vibes for me. The burgers and sandwiches come with fries which were PERFECTLY fried. My friend's sweet potato fries were incredible too. I usually don't like those but they were done well! I got the St. Germain cocktail which did not disappoint! This is my all time favorite spot in Hoboken for a good burger, a beer, and a friendly, casual atmosphere. It's a no nonsense pub which is hard to find in Hoboken which is very much into the very trendy scene. The staff are so nice and love to just chat and have a good time while you're sitting at the bar. It had been a while since we dined in person because of covid and I'm so glad nothing has changed! Their menu has wine and beer pairings on it for each item so you know what goes best! The bacon and Brie burger is my favorite but I'm also known to get the mini burgers. I ALWAYS sub my fries for their sweet potato fries and famous Moon sauce! Trust me, it's amazing! They're also known for their Buffalo wings and have won awards, you won't be disappointed! They have a dining room with a cozy fireplace or the bar room with a few high top tables and bar seating (my preference). I find that a lot of buffalo sauces are "sweet" buffalo sauces, which is typically not what I prefer. I tend to lean towards the more savory/spicy sauce. Carpe Diem has a sweeter sauce, and I STILL think they're the best wings in Hoboken. As good as the wings are, it's quite the opposite with the fries. The fresh mozzarella was just mozzarella sticks in a round shape. They were delicious. We also enjoyed the chicken quesadilla for our appetizers. The burgers were juicy and prepared just right. The fries were crisp and hot. Overall, a delicious meal. The front area is the bar and the back room has limited seating. Outdoor dining available when weather permits. The fireplace in the back room must be very inviting on a cool night. Our server was attentive, not a long wait for any of our food that was served at the right temperature and friendly people. Chicken Fingers - Very tenderized (thin) pieces of chicken and very crunchy! They came with a honey mustard dipping sauce. Coconut Shrimp - Pretty typical as you would get anywhere else. Came here for brunch with a few friends last weekend, as this was one of the few places nearby that had an outdoor/patio table available with an awning/covering when we called ahead. Despite the rainy weather, they had heaters set up and it was just overall just a cozy, relaxing place to have some drinks and good food. Have visited Carpe Diem on a couple of occasions, on a weekday daytime is a great cozy pub. On an evening, the relatively small bar area is transformed into a distractingly, noisy mess with tv screens all over the place. Carpe Diem, is a welcoming pub without the TVs and music during the day. Currently it's almost as if a frat boy moved into their grandparents living room. On a weekend afternoon, a different staff, different atmosphere and loud music "has to be on at this volume, it's one of our rules, sorry." 95 decibels of loud pop music, with five couples or small groups trying to hold a conversation or watch football. Typical bar food was average and bar staff believe they "have no amber beers." Have ordered wings from here before and they were excellent. Not sure why there isn't a comfortable, welcoming, relaxing bar in Hoboken. Being a shouty, loud fratboy-focused TV space doesn't appeal to me sadly. read more

It's a great place and I keep coming back there, just like last night. I am also in mission to work and improve cocktails all over the world and my baseline is Margarita. I fly to Mexico frequently to calibrate myself. I have been there every month since May 2019, but traveling there since May 2018. The Margarita did not seem to be using mixers so great points right there. However it felt a bit too sour in way it seem it could use a bit more flavors to make it more sweet. Can't say enough positive things about this place. Great/professional service, excellent food, and the staff treats you very warmly/friendly as soon as you walk in the door.
