Stopped by on a Thursday and loved that they had some live music playing in the back. A friend and I started with the duck poutine and even though the cheese curds weren't squeaky, it was still delicious. For my main, I went with the dry aged bleu burger. It was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, though the burger itself was very thick (more round than patty) and could have used a pinch more seasoning. So I was looking forward to this duck confit twist on my national dish. Unfortunately, what I got was an over-peppered cauldron of soggy fries with a few nubs of cheese curds in an oddly seasoned gravy. It might be the only time in my life I've pushed away a plate of poutine. No bueno. - Brussels Sprouts Caesar: This was fine, though I failed to taste any miso in the dressing. Generous portions size. - Spicy Elk Meatballs: Spicy tomato sauce, yes. But the elk again tasted over-peppered. And I'm all for trying new meats, but I'm not sure elk translates well as a meatball--too tough and chewy for my liking, even when drowning in aforementioned sauce. The accompanying swiss chard and goat cheese polenta weren't bad--wish there'd been more of those. Service was decent the first time we visited, but not so great the second time. Ordered a French martini and a signature scotch cocktail and just appetizers to share (Shiitake Wellington, Duck Eggs, Fried Oysters, and Duck Poutine). Everything you can tell is curated and designed with the consumer in mind. Love that they keep the theme of wild game across it all. Live bluegrass also a plus! I will say that service can be a little bit slow- maybe it's a way to signify staying a while and enjoying, but for us on a Wednesday night, we had another itinerary to keep. It was fruity, but not too sweet. I didn't really taste the chai flavor, but enjoyed it nonetheless. My husband got the old orchard buck and swears the ginger in it cured his headache, so take that for what you will. To eat, I had the southern fried hen o' the woods. Our waiter raved that it was one of his favorite dishes and it did not disappoint. The succulent mushroom was fried in a remarkably well-seasoned batter. It was plated on a bed of buttery mushroom risotto. The dish was wonderfully flavorful. My husband got the dry aged bleu burger and found it tasty, but would've preferred a few more toppings. This is exactly why i leave my house and take a drive to find the perfect cocktail! Our server was patient as we had a lot of questions about the meat on the menu. For example: we've never had elk or venison. We ordered the Brussels sprouts salad, lamb chop, and a side of fries. All things we were familiar with to keep it safe. Really dope spot to grab a nice cocktail or few in the night. The tables give a very romantic feel with the candlelights. The lights are dim in the evening, so the environment is just great. The Archer was a cocktail lounge that I had been meaning to try for years, but I finally just made it there. The place was packed on that Saturday evening, but we were thankfully able to grab one of the large, spacious booths towards the front. Despite being right next to the door, the area remained warm throughout our visit, which was super appreciated on that frigid evening. Further towards the back of the space was a bar and some standing room, but the booth was ideal for our group of four. Though the spot was busy, our server was diligent about stopping by our table and continuing to check in our needs. The menu was vast and included all sorts of beverages. Since we had already had a few cocktails, I decided to go with a "spirit-free" option and selected the Snake Oil, which was a spicy and bold blend of cold brew coffee, Fresno chili, ginger, Tom's Tonic Syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg that was served on the rocks. I thought it was excellent and the perfect thing to keep me engaged in the experience without having to have more alcohol. You know how New Yorkers talk mad ish about Jersey... So, I get off at Grove Street (off the Path), and I'm immediately greeted by live music, vendors and all around happy people. I didn't realize the Jersey had an entire area dedicated to people for the streets. Ha! And what I mean by that is their open streets concept but done better than NYC. I was able to walk carefree without worrying about getting hit by a car, a motorcycle or a delivery truck. I was at peace and there were a ton of cute bars, cafes, restaurants, seating areas and smiling faces. Picture Disneyland, a small world after all...but life size...and they card and Apple Pay. lol We stopped into a place called The Archer for happy hour. The charcuterie options are pre-selected so you don't have to hurt your brain trying to figure out what meats, cheeses or accouterments to select. And I love that for me. Their happy hour cocktails are so yummy. They got indoor and outdoor seating. The inside was dark and gave a completely different feel than being outside where the sun is shining so we waited for a coveted outside table. I enjoyed the entire charcuterie board and an oyster. The food was very good. Comes out quick and fresh. Good portions. We started with the Duck Poutine and the fried oysters. I had a pasta dish that was recommended by the waitress and a great portion and sauce was tasty and my friend had short ribs she enjoyed. The drinks were excellent. I had a drink that is their version of a whisky sour with egg white and my friend had their version of an old fashioned. We also had a traditional old fashion and a traditional daiquiri. We love the Archer. The menu changes every few months, our current favorite is the collard green sandwich. It's vegetarian friendly and easily splittable between two people. Comes with chips that melt in your mouth. Cocktails are consistently good, and regular mixed drinks are solid as well. Decor is fun--pretty sure the taxidermy is fake but they decorate it seasonally. This is an interesting place. My partner and I were in need of dinner and decided to give The Archer a try! We were sat very quickly, and enjoyed the space of the restaurant. In the evening it is dimly lit, with a lot of hard wood furniture and features. It feels warm and like a nice place to have a meal. The menu is on a QR code, which prompts one to scan the code, and immediately ruin the atmosphere for everyone around when a table-worth of phones light up. Perhaps a digital menu with a darker color theme? I am not sure. Our drink order was taken, and then we didn't see another server for about ten minutes. Still no drinks, and a server came by to take our food order. I am not sure why I gave it to them, as we had not yet received our drinks. We continued waiting for about another ten minutes (~20 minutes since we ordered our drinks), and someone new brings my drink, but informs my partner that the restaurant does not have pisco to make a pisco sour, and that they should select another drink. I do not know why the restaurant took more than 20 minutes -- and our food order -- before telling my partner they do not have a particular liquor. I also do not know why they served my drink to me, and only disappointment to my partner. I would have gladly waited for my drink so they didn't feel left out (I gave them the first sip, instead- they liked it!). I got the impression that most of the staff are avoidant towards the customers, or at least towards us. After this, the experience was okay. The menu features dishes that are actually quite different than what is offered at surrounding restaurants. There are a handful of duck-based dishes, which are fun, for sure! We chose to share the venison tartare, and the duck egg poutine. The poutine was delicious and tasted just liek a poutine. I do wish that there was more fries, as the dish felt like a soupy bowl of cheese. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I wish it was that bowl with more fries sticking out. The tartare was satisfactory. I do wish the bread was slightly different, maybe more crispy. It is a soft pretzel-crust-style bread. This tartare dish was a perfect missed opportunity to put a deck egg on top! Overall, I would recommend that people try this restaurant, but be cautious of the service, and know that it may be choppy. I would love to return and try different menu items, and give the servers another chance. Definitely a place to go if you find yourself down at Grove Street. read more

I had dinner at The Archer on a Sunday around 5:30pm - there were only a few other groups there, so we were easily able to get a table. They have a wide selection of cocktails and drinks, so I was pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful food menu (definitely meat-forward) For drinks, we got the Fifa 98 and the Kensington Oval Punch - both very nice. The Summer Roasted Brussels Sprouts were pretty good, and the vinegar taste is only present in the strawberries. The Emmer Red Wine Cavatelli was good, but not a stand out for us. The Elk Short Ribs, while a bit salty, had really nice flavors, especially with the purple potato chestnut puree. Think about a vegetarian Ruben without pastrami but instead an earthy perfect collard, a pepper spiced Russian dressing oozing out the sides because of my vigorous bites, and a marble rye time capsule of perfection.
