Picture it: June 2021, this apartment complex was so nice. At the time Oscar was working in the leasing office and he was amazing. This complex used to be full of young professionals and older retired people. It was clean, well manicured and people were respectful. In April of 2022, management changed. That is when this complex started going downhill. For starters, NO more night security (mind you they didn't even tell us that they were getting rid of night security!!) Now it is full of trash residents who have no respect for themselves or others. They continually leave trash in the hallway and in the parking garage. They leave trash on the floor of the trash room along with discarded and dilapidated furniture. The smell of weed everywhere!! We have literally had at least six property managers since April of 2022. It is absolutely ridiculous. None of our concerns are taken seriously, because none of the front office staff lives on the property so they don't care. The parking gate was broken on 10/1/23. I distinctly remember because I had a business trip and came back home in the wee hours of the night and immediately wrote it in my log. Finally, it was fixed and was operational for ONE DAY on 1/15/24. I thought to myself FINALLY!!! Only for it to be broken THE VERY NEXT DAY!!!! Freight/parking garage elevator was broken in July of 2023. Every time I asked about it, I was told there's a part that's on backorder, or they're going to come and fix it next week and that never happens. It was finally operational the last week of February, 2024. No email was sent out. I just so happened to notice that the sign wasn't on the elevator door, pressed the button and it opened! Wow! One of the stairwell doors has been broken since 6/11/23. I have the exact date because I sent an email to the office advising that the new electronic door system was not working on that door (that door has ALWAYS had a problem staying closed since I moved here 6/2021) I've inquired about it numerous times via email and in person and continually get the run around as to when it's going to get fixed. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR SAFETY!!! This was so upsetting to me because my unit was closest to the stairwell door. Please don't get me started about the unauthorized pool parties. I've sent at least 30 emails about unauthorized pool parties from June of 2021 to July of 2024. Only one time was something actually done that involved the police actually coming out. The moral of this post is to find somewhere else to live like I did. After the non stop noise that came from the unit above me (I kept a log for 2024, see entries below) and numerous emails, calls to the leasing office and certified mail sent, I had to leave. DO not believe any of the five-star reviews that you see about this property on google. THEY are bought and paid for. Only believe the one star reviews, they are completely accurate. read more

Constant cockroach infestation. Lived here for about 3 years and the last 6 months nothing but roaches. They say they spray, but don't. I have had to resort to buying my own supplies to treat the roach issue. Add in rim theft, and the constant noisy neighbors and the smell of weed in the halls. This place straight up sucks. Don't waste your money. First off, nothing works. The elevators are constantly busted, the hallways smell like wet carpet, and the gym? Please. Two broken treadmills and a dusty yoga mat. Maintenance acts like they've never heard of a wrench you'll be waiting forever to get anything fixed. But the real nightmare is Roopali Seshadri. I don't know how she ended up here, but she struts around like she owns the place. And the way she treats people? Straight up racist and nasty. She'll smile to your face, then turn around and make you feel like you don't belong here. Totally ruined the vibe of the whole building. Oscar was great and Eric was also very kind! 6 months ago, Astor got bought and the story has been completely different ever since. They don't care about their residents, cars are constantly broken into, they have not taken any precautions to keep residents safe. They couldn't even install a $5 camera in their parking garage. They never even assist residents when these events occur. Office staff just care about money, they do not try to even work with their residents for a more joyful experience. Maintenance is not effective at all, they take FOREVER to fix even the smallest things. Amenities are NEVER clean, the pool is disgusting, gym is never sanitized, packages get lost all the time. You can almost never find parking in your floor, even residents have to park in the visitors parking very frequently due to this constant issue. And just know, YOU WILL GET BROKEN INTO. Save yourself the trouble and do NOT lease here. As someone who recently lived here, I can assure you these 5 star reviews you're seeing are NOT real, let me tell you why... There's no consistency with the property staff, we had 7 property managers during our 13 month lease. Only 1 out of those 7 property managers (Jen) actually cared, listened and did what a property manager should do, and they fired her because she was evicting bad tenants who didn't pay their rent. My personal favorite part is the day we moved in, they didn't know we were moving in! I had to provide my lease to them, which weird, you would have thought they would have that. The apt was filthy, lots of damage from the previous tenants, and I had to bug them for weeks for an inventory sheet to document the issues. When I asked for a copy, it was no where to be found. Probably due to the 7 different managers that were there. I placed a maintenance request in for my carpet as it was damaged upon move in, but was told corporate would have to approve that fix, and guess what it was never done! The carpet was shredding and there was wood and nails exposed in several places, but hey, as long as it wasn't them stepping on the nails they didn't care! The 'dog park' is a joke and is riddled with dog feces at all times. Several people have unregistered dogs here, and they allow their animals to defecate and urinate in the hall ways, elevators and common areas. Property is not well taken care of, there's trash everywhere...in the hall ways, in the garages, the trash rooms are over flown and it smells like dirty, rotting garbage which leaks into the hallways. Gnats and roaches will come into your home no matter how clean you are and you'll more than likely make friends with them in the hallways too! Tenants do not respect 'the rules' (I say this laughingly because they're never enforced by whomever happens to be working at the time) and you'll more than likely hear loud music 24/7. Also, the hallways, and often times my home, would reek of marijuana! All Avan does is email a 'tisk risk' email blast to the residents about it! And my personal favorite, the fire alarms which go off constantly, often at the wee hours of the morning. For whatever reason this property constantly looses power too! The whole street will have power but not Astor! When your power goes out, guess what, so does your water! Better hope you don't need either! The pool is constantly merky and disgusting - and entirely too small for such a large property. Tenants throw parties poolside and do not clean up after themselves and leave it looking like a frat house with trash everywhere. The gym is a joke, and it's not well maintained. Machines are broken and hardly ever cleaned. There are several abandoned vehicles in the garages, and they threaten to tow and will even go so far as to put those stickers on cars but will never actually tow them! Cars get broken into often because the garage gates are broken and left open, so anyone can walk right in and do whatever they want to vehicles parked there! I hope you don't like riding the elevators, because, guess what, shocker, they hardly ever work. You'll definitely be taking the stairs more often than not. There's no security anywhere in sight. My girlfriend encountered a homeless man sleeping on the grounds when she went to take our dog out at 5 am. Another incident I whitenesses was a man beating his girlfriend at the entrance to our complex, and while this wasn't necessarily the complex's fault had there been on sight security like all ACTUAL LUXURY APARTMENTS have this situation could have easily been quashed before it began. This property was absolutely beautiful when Mill Creek owned it, once Avan took it over it quickly changed. Don't let the pretty Facebook videos and fake reviews fool you, this place is a glorified dump! Save yourself the $ and go elsewhere!! read more

Currently live here and it's a party community. The location is great but that's the only thing going for it. The walls are thin and you can hear conversations. It's worse when you have neighbors who love to play loud, heavy bass music. Management don't do much so you're stuck with loud music late into the morning. Even during the day so if you work from home, your conference calls will sound unprofessional with loud music in the back ground. If you have anyone above you, it is even worse. Luckily I was able to move to the top floor when I first moved in. Big mistake for me to renew my lease. Also it is common for the fire alarm to go off because someone smokes by it. Also common for gates and elevators to be down. I do not recommend living here unless you have a party lifestyle. read more

About 2 years in and completely over it. The 2 things this property has going for it are the friendly front office staff and location and thats where it stops. It's always something: Call Boxes - Never working! This is such a first world problem but Im paying for this so I don't feel bad complaining about it. They never work! They go out, they call AT&T out to "fix the issue with the line", they work for a few weeks and then they're out again. Fire Alarms - Before I moved here I recall seeing reviews on the malfunctioning fire alarms and it's still an issue. Every so often you're jolted out of bed at 3AM to a blaring alarm. Not sure anyone who has been here for any length of time actually leaves their apartment to see if theres an actual fire because we know it's just malfunctioning. That in and of itself is a tragedy waiting to happen. Pet Owners - Pee in the elevators, poop in the hallways, people who refuse to put their dog on a leash and the designated pet area? Yuck! Security - The magnet at one of the entries doesn't require a fob. Anyone can just walk up and pull the handle and it opens. Ive personally talked to 2 office staff about it and its still not fixed. Security - Also I started noticing that two of the units on my block always have different people coming and going. So I took a gander over to Air BnB and sure enough there are a handful of units listed there. Most by the same person which makes me wonder if the apartments themselves have them listed (thats pure speculation). What's factual is that there are always new people coming and going every few days around me and that's unsettling. Weed scented hallways- Yeah thats always a fun conversation when you're walking your guest out or in. I can deal with a couple issues. Like I said in my original review there's bound to be something you're unhappy with at any property but this is just becoming one too many red flags. read more

STAY AWAY!! It is RIDICULOUS the amount of times there has been break in cars, broken windows and EVEN had license plates stolen!!!! The reason being 1. This gate has been wide open for 2 months now, giving the liberty for anyone and everyone to go inside !!! 2. Seems they can't afford security! Thousands of dollars given to them and can't have security?!?! After the last break in, they had security roaming for a week and never seen again. These apartments are trash and don't care. OMG!!! Oscar is AMAZING! I have been living here for 3 years. When my lease, was up he helped me to make sure I wasn't homeless and paying too much out of pocket for a place. He helped me to locate a perfect spot in Astor and kept me updated every step of the way. The whole Astor team are great. The location is phenomenal. You are close to the Galleria, Memorial park and close to major freeways. But yet a bit far from the Galleria traffic. read more

I tried requesting for a new fridge but they refused. I tried obtaining some type of voucher or compensation for my groceries spoiling on three separate occasions and they couldn't even do that. The workers at this complex are inept, demeaning and absolutely unprofessional. NEW REVIEW I moved out a year ago because I had a horrible neighbor that played music so loud it shook my walls on weekday nights. I'm talking like 3 a.m. on Wednesday's. I'd be up at 3 a.m. listening to her play loud music. I'd call the cops, tell management, to no avail. She then went crazy on the staff and I actually have the video of that. Tenants have gone down and it's not worth the price anymore. Also, someone tried to scam me in the parking garage by saying I hit their car. 3 People got out of their car, stood in front of my car, wouldn't let me leave, and I had to call the police. I was going to see my niece and was over 2 hours late. When the cops got there (this is a Sunday at 9 a.m.), they just told me to leave. I would NOT rent at this place. read more

Came here to check out what's available for me to rent in August- Susana was so friendly and thorough when I first met her! She gave me such great information and a tour of their model 1 bedroom after asking specific questions to get down exactly what I wanted and didnt want. It's a beautiful property with a spacious lounge area to host friends! She did mention that the property had just changed management companies so they were undergoing some changes. I was hesitant because of the changes but Susana reassured me that it would still be a great place to live and they were upgrading their security to ensure improved safety and security measures including fire alarms and systems and having a security officer on property in the near future. I appreciate safety above all having been a victim of theft before so I'm SUPER glad they're making adjustments! This is definitely my top place so far especially because the location is so central and quiet! read more

I've lived here since 2016 and have seen this place go downhill VERY rapidly!! Literally the only thing good about this place is the location. Always dog urine in the elevator (when they're working), callbox always out, and dog waste bins overflow every week to the point the lid can't be closed. The office staff is ever changing as well which is also a red flag. So happy to have left this place this year because the uncleanliness has reached an all time high! This place has completely become run down since the new avan property management purchased and took over in June 2022. They are constantly trying to overcharge and get money out of residents. Checking the online portal, there are always new charges, but when asked about it, they suddenly disappear. This new company is not managing the property. They are just sitting in the office and collecting a check. I never realized how important management was, until they came. Fire alarms always blaring. Trash everywhere. AC constantly breaking. I'm giving a second star because the leasing manager has truly been thrown in the deep end and is trying her best to keep up but overall experience would be zero stars. I signed a lease before the new management came on and the hand off has been terrible. They asked me if I had signed a lease when I came to pick up keys (don't y'all have a copy?). They had my carpets shampooed the literal day I moved in so I showed up to wet carpets and couldn't put anything on them. When I complained that they were still wet they went and got blowers to more efficiently dry the carpets. Not sure why this wasn't done initially. It's also clear that whoever cleaned this apartment did so in a complete rush. I found crusted on food in two places on my counter. The exterior of the fridge had a greasy feel to it and not a single hole from the previous owner has been patched, which I noticed a couple of days after move in as I started hanging things. The leasing office did send maintenance to come help me move my dresser the day after I moved in because of the wet carpet fiasco. However maintenance scratched the floor when they did move it. I submitted a work order because I don't want to be charged when I move out for something I didn't cause and my work order was closed without anyone ever even coming to look at it. The final straw of deciding to write this was I just tried to take a bath after 4 days of moving and unpacking and just wanted to relax. But you can't close the drain all the way so the tub won't fill. If it was maybe one of these things I could understand but this is the worst move in experience I've ever had. read more

Love living here! Just renewed my lease. Oscar is the best!! He's on top of everything and always goes out of his way to help you in any way he can!!! You can't beat the location, the parking situation is easy, and the building isn't too big so every unit is accesible and quick to get to. I also love taking walks around the neighborhood and enjoy seeing the big beautiful million dollar homes all around us. I've lived at Astor Tanglewood for almost 5 months now and I love it! Chass and Grant are super friendly and helpful. The maintenance staff are quick and efficient. They work very hard on keeping the complex clean and functional. And you can't go wrong with the pool, gym and amazing location! I've had such a positive experience here. They hold my packages when I'm gone. They fixed my bathroom sink right away when I had a little problem. And so far I haven't had any problems with the other residents. It takes up to a month for repairs to dishwasher or garbage disposal. That's according to the maintenance reports from my online account. I lived with food rotting in my disposal and dishwasher for two weeks waiting for someone to appear. The air conditioner was so filthy, inside a locked closet with no resident access, that my electric bills went up $50 per month. The filter hadn't been changed at least for a year or longer until I requested an inspection. It literally had 5 inches of dust caked on the filter. read more

So I lived here for maybe two years and to start off it was a great place the staff was nice especially Brandon I believe his name was but he got fired for no reason. Now the lobby is ruled by someone who goes by the name of I believe Chasity and some other lady which wouldn't help me into my apartment when I forgot it in the room. Plus the coffee machine was always broken. The people in the apartments are nice though which you always want to be welcomed by some nice neighbors. I wouldn't say stay away but be cautious and don't go here if you are looking for a fancy place. read more

The staff are the best I've had! No, I don't work here or have been paid or asked to say it... this is the first time I've REALLY reviewed a property because this is the first time I felt like it was worth my time and well deserved. Staff - always extremely helpful and actually went above and beyond to accommodate us. As with any apartment, things come up. But they are always responsive and friendly. Other apartments I feel like basic tasks bothered the staff but even when I feel like I'm being a nuisance, they are 100% helpful and kind. Brandon is my favorite person, sometimes I just go to say hi, have a quick laugh, or happily receive his compliments lol. He basically knows all the tenants and is extremely personable. He's also always on top of his job. During the hurricane, he was running around like crazy to make sure everyone had what they needed, constantly checking on first floor tenants...even checking on dogs for owners who left! He's honest and reliable, just awesome! Kristen I actually met at the other property where we had missed out on the unit we wanted and when we came here... the same thing happened (not a problem on their end, just timing). She made sure we got exactly what we needed and continues to do so throughout our time here. The maintenance men are also very kind and always say hello and help 24/7, even with the random requests I've heard they get. As for the property, the location is quiet and nice. The property usually looks great, but new tenants tend to leave trash out or their dogs poop around the yard. The staff has been working on getting this fixed, tenants are hardheaded though. Sometimes trash is left out by the same logic-challenged folks but quickly picked up. Trash rooms get backed up too but are handled quickly! Even after Harvey, and at 98% occupancy, the property is pretty quiet. I've heard a few turn up tammy's and tom's that got outta hand at night but once it was brought to managements attention I never heard it again. The units are nice and the finishings are very nice as well! I would say that unlike a lot of apartments, the pics on the website are pretty accurate to what you are getting. Rent is definitely pricey BUT I think it's pretty on the mark for the Tanglewood area. Now, the reason for the one star left off for a 100% honest review (I'd do 4 1/2 if yelp allowed): Parking - as any apartment, parking can be a headache...there is a system in the works to make sure guest stop parking everywhere because parking fills up FAST. You can reserve a spot for like $75 a month I believe butttt I'm cheap lol. So it can be annoying driving to the 8th floor when I live on the first.. Alarms - fire alarms that go off at 4am. No clue why, I'm sure a it's people smoking inside like idiots Elevators - the garage elevator has been out most of my time here once due to malfunction I think and currently because the hurricane flooded the basement. Legitimate causes but that's the one I neeeeeed lol sucks when I have groceries and park in the basement Dog poop - but this is more of the tenants being sh*tty vs simply picking up their dogs sh*t :) Amenities- since it is a smaller community the common areas such as the pool, dog park and gym are smaller. This is where I favor their sister property SOLA. But I still enjoy what they have to offer and we are located near everything so it's not bad. So overall, the issues I have are mostly tenant based or not major. My last apartment was hell on earth so I'm so happy I decided to move here, found it by accident too!! I love the new management here!!! Management here is making a great impression and they are so friendly! I have been living here since November 2017 and have never had a problem with anything. The interiors are really nice and the grounds are beautiful as well. The landscaping is on point! They have a great landscaping company that comes every week. Dog park is awesome and so handy to have. I feel very safe living here. My only improvement recommendations are to maybe put some outdoor lighting or covered area by the grills/courtyard and possibly a call box or keypad for the second building for easier access to let guests in since it's a little complicated for the building at the back. I have lived in several apartment communities and this is the best so far! read more

Desirable safe neighborhood, friendly, helpful staff & tenants, and Oscar and Grant (lease staff) are immeasurably knowledgeable, helpful, honest & professional; making move-in painless. I love my new apartment. Been here for about 2 months now. The location is awesome, my unit is really nice, and Oscar and the other staff members are very helpful and nice. They've never had attitudes with me or been rude. The complex is pretty quiet, which is great. Maintenance is very nice, but can be slow to get to you and sometimes the elevators are out. Overall, really great apartment. As of now, I don't see myself leaving unless I buy a house. read more

Moved here a few months ago and we are totally loving our place. The apartment complex is perfectly located close to freeways, shopping areas and restaurants. The location is really peaceful and safe, but what we love the most about this place is the staff. They are all really helpful and attentive, making the place feel homey. The old management messed up parts of my account and Brandon was SUPER helpful in not only clearing that up but also helping me to find a better apartment within the property. I am new to up town area and recently was leased an apartment by Chassity. She was very informative and happy to show me the different floor plans. She was also did well showing me every amenities that came with the property. Every encounter i have had with her and the leasing office has been very friendly and she been a great help. Since i have been here in December. Ive two at least three resident events and she has been fantastic hosting them. When i have issue she take care of it right away. I know apartments are not perfect but i can see the teams efforts and the improvement in this property. I am glad to be a resident here read more
