I've been to India many times, and lived in Singapore for 40 years, so I know my Indian food and Astoria Biryani House does it right!! We were welcomed with a plate of crispy and spicy papadums while we waited for our order. It didn't take long, and the chicken tandoori came first on a sizzling hot cast iron plate. The tender, spicy and perfectly salted, my friend commented that he doesn't usually like chicken, but if all chicken was as tasty as this one, he might just change his mind. Their goat Biryani totally knocks it out of the park. The flavor of the rice is a perfect, spicy, complex blend. And texture is fluffy and each grain is whole and tender. The aroma and taste of the goat infuses every grain. This is one of the best Hydrabadi biryanis I've had in the USA. The garlic naan is pillowy, and soft and chewy perfection. The perfect thing to use to soak up the spicy tomato vindaloo chicken. Wonderful service, and comfortable seats make this a truly awesome find. I absolutely love Indian food and this spot was no exception! My friends and I had a DELICIOUS meal with 3 entrees and had so many leftovers I am on my 3rd meal of biryani!! The butter chicken was delicious and creamy--we asked for a medium level of spice on everything, and this was the least spicy dish. We had plenty of rice to put this over, and there was even more chicken than I expected in it! The tikka masala was amazing as well--I especially appreciated the pieces of peppers and onion on the sauce which I haven't seen often in this dish! My absolute favorite was the biryani. This was a good amount spicier than the other 2 dishes, and had an INCREDIBLE flavor! One of those that I NEED to have again, but can just tell so much went into it that I will not be recreating this dish on my own... I'll just have to come back for it! The chicken was SO juicy that we thought it was a different protein. I didn't think I'd like the egg on top, but this paired so well that I hard boiled some eggs at home to eat with my leftovers! This dish is so good and saves so well I plan to get one to go every time I'm able to stop in!! The overall vibe inside was larger than I expected--they made great use of the space for plenty of tables and booths. There must be a buffet at times, because a table was set up for this at the front of the shop. The service was great, and fast--very hands off as you would expect from an authentic spot like this. We got to meet the owner who was fantastic at giving us information about the menu/dishes we chose, and what went into the biryani when we gushed over this!! It was great to meet him and learn about what goes into the dishes they serve. I can't leave out the final dish we had which was the mango lassi dessert drink! This was the perfect way to end a spicy meal. This had a very sweet and real mango flavor, with plenty of creamy yogurt to tone down the spices. I only wish I could make this at home after eating all this biryani! I HIGHLY recommend stopping in if you haven't yet! My friends and I were invited to come out to try Astoria (based on the recommendation of a coworker) and were pleasantly surprised! This hidden gem had lots of open seating. The server and owner were super attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The owner was extremely kind and walked us through the menu. He suggested the mango lassi, chicken biryani, chicken tikka marsala, butter chicken, and garlic naan. All of the food was amazing and extremely flavorful! You could tell they put a lot of effort into their food. We got about 4-5 spice (medium) and I wouldn't go higher, it was perfect as someone who likes spice but not overpowering. My favorite bite would have to be the chicken tikka marsala and the biryani. Overall what an amazing find! Definitely one of my top places to grab Indian food here in Omaha. I ordered this on Christmas Day via DoorDash as it was one of the few restaurants open that day. The lamb biryani was quite flavorful and had a good kick to it. The chicken tikka on the other hand was decent but not as good. I felt like the gravy in the curry was a bit runny and not as rich/creamy as I would have liked. Also, extremely little meat in both the curry and the biryani. I also wished they had maybe put the containers in different bags or packaged differently because some of my curry had spilt in the bag when I received the delivery. read more

Astoria continues to be our go to for Indian in Omaha. The food is very consistent and their curries are quite flavorful. Our favorites are lamb korma and butter chicken. The masala dosa is also very good. I do wish there was a little more meat included in the curry dishes, because they are sooo good. Probably the most tender lamb pieces I've had outside of India. The appetizers were good, but not as good as the main event. The mix grill was a fun change up...the tandoori chicken was definitely the fav here. The prices are pretty fair compared to other competitors in the area. They also have a fantastic Thursday takeout deal where you can mix and match certain entrees at a discount. We usually takeout because the ambiance dining in is a little lacking. Would love to hear some Bollywood music playing to set the mood. Unfortunately you only hear the people around you talking. Sure, it's like a 30 minute wait for takeout, but the prices are otherwise quite similar to Abelardo's, so just plan mildly ahead and you're in for a treat! We went on a Wednesday night and there was maybe only one other table occupied so we have some work to do to get the word out! The Malia Kofta was phenomenal. Tons of bold flavor. Great texture on the balls. Definitely was enough sauce to take home a tub of left overs. The samosas were the best we've ever had. We had to order a second order. They were the perfect crispy texture and delicious flavor on the inside. Garlic naan was a great level of bold garlic. Comes with 4 pieces. This is a pretty solid choice for Indian in town! I've only gotten take out from here a couple times, so I can't really speak on the experience dining in, but I can comment on the food. I've mostly just gotten their chicken curries like their butter chicken and tikka masala, and those were both great, creamy and flavorful. They do charge less if you pay with cash (~10%), so if you're the cash carrying type then that's something you might want to keep in mind. read more

Tried takeout for a first-time Indian food experience! There was parking outside which is great, and the staff was super nice when we arrived. The takeout travelled really well home and was still hot and good quality when we opened it up. We ordered butter chicken and chicken tikka masala (both mild on the heat scale). We enjoyed the spices on the 65 gobi---will consider going back for their 65 chicken, the naan was also good, but the other two items were okay. The restaurant was quite warm and the service was meh. We were seated at a booth and was provided with water (no ice). Ordered a Sprite and gave us a can that is room temperature was told to let them know if we want ice. I'm not sure who out there is enjoying their soda at room temp, but yes, please ice would be fantastic. After receiving our meal, the server never came back to check on us or offer a refill. Like I said, I will consider returning for the 65 chicken and possibly to try their biryani. I think I will consider their lunch buffet next time for variety. I made a few calls after being so confused and found out they were the previous tenants here over a year ago. Come on google!!! They have someone at the front and one server, but things seemed to be running smoothly as I waited for my takeout order. Price wise, lunch ranges from $8-9 for an entree and rice. I did a side of naan for $3 but I see a dine-in basket is $6. We got tikka masala and bhindi masala to go. These are two of my favorite Indian dishes, and they did not disappoint. I ordered four out of 10 for the spicy scale which was perfect for me edging towards the spicier side. If you're looking to support a family owned smaller size Indian restaurant this would be a great place to start. The kids and I had such a fun experience for dinner tonight! We saw that Astoria Biryani House Omaha has a special on Wednesdays for unlimited dosa. What's dosa you say? Well I had to watch a YouTube video before we went to find out. They are basically like thin crepes with different fillings. You also can go through a buffet for sauces, rice and currys. I really had not a clue what I was doing but they were super nice and helped us out!! The kids got unlimited peanut butter and Nutella dosa! They just keep on bringing them when you are ready for more!! It was a great way to try a variety of things. We also had the best mango lassis. We will definitely be back!! So we went with the girls for lunch buffet. One of the worst things about buffets is if the people are stingy they expect you to pay full price but refuse to refill. So basically you don't eat your stomach full instead your appetite dies while waiting for the refills. Food was not that great sorry I didn't get to taste them. Limited options.
