I was seriously craving Indian food while visiting Omaha during Memorial Day weekend, and luckily, Karnali was the only Indian restaurant open nearby that day. We reached the restaurant around 3:30 - 4 PM for a late lunch, and there were a few people dining inside. The restaurant was very clean, the tables were well arranged, and the Indian music playing in the background gave the place a nice cozy vibe. We started with the tandoori chicken and then ordered garlic naan, butter chicken, and two chais for the main meal. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, but it was different from the typical restaurant-style tandoori chicken. It tasted more homemade with regular spices, without the bright red color or smoky restaurant flavor. Still, it was really good. The best part of the meal was actually the sauce served with the chicken. It tasted like a spicy tomato-onion gravy, almost similar to butter chicken sauce, and honestly, I wish the butter chicken we took later had been cooked in that same sauce because it was delicious. The butter chicken was tasty overall - rich and creamy, though the garlic naan could have been better. The naan felt a little too dry and could have used more butter. The chai at the end was ok because it had a bit too much spice and tasted more milky than tea. The service was decent as well. The server was friendly, but while taking our order he wasn't writing anything down and had to ask us to repeat a few things, so that was a little awkward. The food arrived in about 10 minutes, which was pretty quick. One thing to note is that we had to place the chai order along with the food because the server mentioned it takes around 15 minutes or more to prepare. I did feel that the pricing was slightly higher compared to the quality and portion sizes. The tandoori chicken was around $17 ,the butter chicken was about $19 and the Naans $4 each and chais were around $4 each, so the total came close to $55 + w tax or more. Personally, I don't think the food completely matched the pricing and was mediocre. Overall, I had a decent experience and really appreciate that they were open on Memorial Day because they definitely satisfied my Indian food craving. I would definitely recommend trying the tandoori chicken appetizer, especially with the sauce they serve alongside it. I would give the restaurant a solid 3 out of 5 stars. read more

We had such a great experience at Karnali. We had a group of 4 plus a baby. They were very accommodating with our seating and had a high chair for our baby. It was a Thursday evening and not very busy. Only two other tables when we were there which really surprised me after tasting the food. They started out with the complimentary papadam with two different sauces a mint chutney and a brown sauce not sure what it is but both great. We started off with the naan bread basket and an another garlic cheese naan definitely didn't need more than the bread basket was a very large portion to split. All were very tasty the garlic was my favorite. I had the Karnali combo biryani which was awesome had the right heat I asked for spice wise and good amount of all the different meats. My wife got the mango masala which she really enjoyed and isn't always the biggest Indian food fan but she ate hers and ate the leftovers the next day as well. My aunt had chicken korma which she raved about as well. My mother tried the malai kofta she had only tried Indian food once many years ago and this experience confirmed she's not a fan and has a bad taste palette haha. I really enjoyed this dish as well and was happy to have the leftovers the next couple days. We ordered her some chicken tenders from the kids menu but those also had some seasonings more cumin I'd say and others that she didn't enjoy but our 14 month old really enjoyed. So if you have a very picky eater maybe go with one of the other kids options. The white creamy sauce that came with my biryani was also bursting with flavor and had a great cooling sensation. The man who served our table was very friendly and even played peek a boo with our baby from the register area. Place had a nice vibe and was very clean bathrooms included. I never thought I'd find Indian food this tasty in the midwest, let alone Omaha. Driving through for work I was craving something spicy so decided to look for an Indian or Thai restaurant close to the freeway. This one had good ratings and wasn't too far of the main road, so I took the chance. Swung in and got a seat in the back by the windows. I ordered veg samosa to start with lamb vindaloo & garlic naan for my main. I asked for extra spice. Usually when asked how hot I want my food on a scale of 1-10, if I say anything less than 12 it's not spicy enough. I told them "extra spicy" and my waiter asked if I was sure I wanted it EXTRA spicy and I assured him I did. I have to say this was one of the spiciest dishes I've ever eaten. When I told him extra spicy, I think he told the cook to make me regret being born. After 3 bites, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to finish it.... the sweat was beading on my forehead and my nose was like a firehose. I powered on. It was too delish not to. The lamb must have been pressure cooked or simmered for days because I've never hand lamb this tender in my life. It melted in my mouth. The rise and naan helped a bit with the heat, but I ordered a mango lassi for good measure. It came with a light dusting of pistaccio and coconut on the top, and was a great cool for the burn. Many restaurants are closed Sunday and Monday, so it was nice surprise to have this restaurant open. We got veggie sambusas and they were perfectly crisp on the outside and nice and soft and flavorful on the inside. We got okra, cilantro chicken korma, chickpea curry and saag paneer. So I'll start off by saying the service is not comparable to any other Indian place in the metro area. So amazing, really friendly people and they even pulled out my chair for me. The inside was clean and more modern. I got the chicken kadai with mild + spice and it was pretty good. Wasn't anything exceptional but was good. The spice level was good and was just a tiny bit spicy. My dad got the lamb kabob and really enjoyed it but said it wasn't spicy at all as he got the medium+. The garlic naan was a little disappointing honestly it was pretty thin and not much flavor. The mango lassi was good, not my cup of tea but if you enjoy mango lassi you'd definitely like this one. We were driving though town on I29 and went about 20 minutes out of our way to eat here. The restaurant was very quiet on a Friday night so we hesitated but decided to try anyway. SO glad we did! This is our second time back in the food was amazing again. My husband got lamb kebabs and I got Tiki Marcella tandoori. All their food is made fresh and you can definitely paste that! The 2 gentleman working front of house were very attentive and checked in on us pretty regularly. The food really was the star of the show. The place is brand new and spacious. The staff was very attentive and prompt, even brought us more rice without us requesting it, when they noticed our ratio of entree to rice was a bit heavy handed. Omaha has several strong Indian and Nepalese restaurants. Karnali is a wonderful addition which will now be in our rotation. Flavors were incredible in every dish we tried. Wait staff and service overall was attentive and kind. There are 2 shortcomings I can see after our first visit. Firs, It is my hope that with time, the interior will come to match the quality of the food. this would be a wonderful evening date site, particularly with the floor plan, but it needs help. This new Indian restaurant located just east of Westroads mall is off to a delicious start. I thought their vegetable samosas were possibly the best I've ever eaten, very light on the fried outer dough. The lentil soup was also very tasty. The menu is large and features many vegetarian options as well as over 50 non vegetarian dishes. We sampled the paneer Tika Masala and the Karnali Seafood Curry. Both were generously portioned and wonderfully seasoned. Likewise the garlic naan arrived with more than enough to share. If you are a garlic fan this is for you! We ordered more than we could eat, and took enough home for a second meal, so we didn't sample anything from their dessert menu. All meals, including the soup, can be ordered from mild all the way up to "extra hot". I chose medium and both my soup and my curry arrived exactly at the spice level I prefer. Service was attentive and friendly. We were told that the restaurant has applied for a license to sell alcohol. Prices are very reasonable. You can park at the door. There are now quite a few great Indian restaurants in Omaha. Karnali is right up there with the best. read more

My tikka masala came in two separate containers- chicken on the side with 4oz of sauce in a 8oz container. Most experiences I have had were often needing more rice with my sauce.
