I love the smell of coffee: roasting, grinding, brewing -- sometimes wishing that coffee tastes as good as it smells. Wish granted. As coffee preference is as unique as the individual, what I like probably won't translate to others... but I've been on a lifelong quest for the perfect cup of coffee, adding that MAKING the perfect cup of coffee is second on my list (love learning how various coffee makers work to make the best cup, from the French press to espresso makers). I love stopping here, and probably spend far too much money buying various junk-of-the-month-club blends in search of perfection. We live in So Cal where there are a lot of small coffee shops who do their own roasting, and Astoria Coffee Company was hands down better than anything I've had down here recently. Whenever we go to a town to visit we try to buy some local coffee to take home and enjoy it in the mornings for what seems like to be an all too short of time. We bought a tin can of coffee beans and brought them home and enjoy that. There are many different types of coffee to pick from here that they roast so if you love coffee chances are your type is here. They also have a vending machine outside that dispenses packages of coffee so if they are closed and are in a dire need for a caffeine fix you won't have to wait. They make coffee drinks there also. I had a great spicy mocha which was wonderful! I believe Steve got a tea which was very good too. There isn't a whole lot of room for "here" orders but there are a few chairs to sit in and enjoy your drinks. They also sell lots of unique gifts and merchandise. I purchased some small chocolate bars that proved to be quite good. Definitely recommend if you need a good and locally owned coffee shop for the Astoria area. read more

My only complaint is that the drink was in a cup meant for hot drinks. Weird, but I dealt with it. Such a cute little beachfront town coffee shop. I loved it and would have given 5 stars except it wasn't anything extraordinary just a basic lil small town coffee shop. The service was great, coffee was good. They had a picnic table out front we all sat at with our friends dog. It's right by the ocean but you had to go up a little farther to find an actual beach. Definitely recommend checking them out if you are ever in Astoria OR. They are walking distance from the Gooney House. read more

The first stop on our Goonies adventure in Astoria was a stop to Astoria Coffee. I was hoping to get a cup of joe and a pastry but they do not have drinks or hot food here. Instead this is a coffee roaster and tea company selling their packaged goods. They also have souvenirs, Goonies goodies, cups and mugs, tshirts, hoodies, books, etc. We bought a few small trinkets and headed up the block to visit the Goonies house. The owners are very nice and gave us recommendations to have breakfast. They recommended the new restaurant inside the Bowline hotel as well as another coffee shop across the street. What a great little "hidden" gem at the edge of town. Nice cuppa joe at reasonable pricing that beats the "siren". As you wait for the beans to brew, look around and pick up some Astoria souvenirs for the family back home. Fun stickers, coffee mugs, and so much more. "The goonies store" is also a class act for vegan and vegetarian food. Not to mention the coffee is really good as well. The older man/store owner made my vegan roasted root salad by hand and everything, it was delicious and for $4. Also copped a goonies "never say die" Coffee mug. Not gonna lie- I only found this place because it's located on the corner of the street you have to turn on to get to the Goonies House (now closed to tourist traffic) and the school on Kindergarten Cop. I bought 3 lbs. of their Northwest Blend whole bean and yes, it's good enough, Northwest is good enough... For meeee it's good enouuuuuuugh!!! Sorry. I had the song from The Goonies stuck in my head. Very friendly staff inside. The place smells amazing, and they also sell Goonies memorabilia inside. The prices are very reasonable. There are a couple of roasters in Astoria and both are good. But good things do come in small packages and for me Astoria Coffee Company is a winner. NOTE: **NOT to be confused with Astoria Coffee House which is a bistro** At Astoria Coffee Company, the shop itself also has some nibblies on offer and a great variety of loose leaf tea on top of their awesome coffee selection. Coffee accoutrements tempt us from shelves along with various local souvenirs and I couldn't resist the Astoria Coffee Company branded 6oz mug. So tiny, so retro stylin' *squee* i heart it so much! This cafe location is the actual roaster, so this experience is an authentic one. The barista, also being a roaster him/herself will patiently explain about the beans on hand, helping you make the right choice. Our experience was also enhance by the wharf across the street which was host to approximately 120 sea lions at the time of our visit. Imagine the noise! Thankfully we were upwind to them. Observing these large sea mammals is so exhilarating. Apparently they arrive once a year to this protected harbor so the local establishment had to build some resting platforms for them. This was mid April but the pod could arrive anywhere from late March to late May, depending on the weather. Have fun in Astoria, what a great town! read more
