Dr. Shetty is so wonderful! My previous eyecare specialist was such a disaster that this eye clinic took me by total surprise by going above and beyond! He was the first Optometrist I've seen that listened to my issues with my high astigmatism and how prior docs just tried to force me into over-correcting my eyes and refusing to adjust my lenses despite my getting headaches! He took great care to make sure this didn't happen for me. In fact he said that my vision was pretty stable so no need to change too much. I was absolutely blown away when Dr. Shetty stayed after hours over 15 minutes - sitting by himself in the office to wait for me to pick up my glasses! I did everything in my power to get out of work as early as possible to pick them up before the 6pm closing time, but I work in a clinic and many times this isn't possible, especially coming from The Bronx. Knowing my crazy work hours and travel, he understood this and went above and beyond in accommodating to make sure I get my lenses, without any attitude or condescending remarks! My new glasses with "prism" lens are GREAT! When I saw Dr. Shetty, my old glasses were from 2021, and I thought the reason I was struggling to focus was that I had knocked them around and out of focus or maybe the old frames were just getting old and wobbly. He said it wasn't the frames, it was that my eyes were mis-aligned and he could correct for that with prism lenses. Wow, what a difference! Dr. Shetty is super knowledgeable and will tell you exactly what you need to know about your eyes in a compassionate way that doesn't leave you needlessly anxious (I learned all about my eye nerves). Think: bedside manner the polar opposite of the classic dentist. As someone who hasn't had vision insurance in a while, I always expect exams to be more than I really want to pay - not so here! Between the reasonable prices and the excellent service, I won't be going anywhere else, and might actually get my eyes tested when I should. If you're reading this during COVID: one thing that I really appreciated learning on the phone when I made my appointment is that Dr. Shetty is the only person in the extremely well-appointed space. They didn't prescribe and make the right glasses for me and that's why I suffered problems from wearing those wrong glasses which I only understood after meeting with another eye doctor. They refused to take responsibility and blamed me instead and whenever they talked to me, they behaved quite rudely and arrogantly. read more

I visited this store for an emergency appointment last week and I learned that I have developed a pretty serious condition on my eye. The doctor was very thorough in guiding me through the steps that need to be taken and making sure I understood the strict routine for the 3 different drops he prescribed me. I was on standby to potentially make an emergency appointment with an opthamologist. I came back in 2 days later and the condition had almost completely cleared - 2 days after that and it had gone completely. At each appointment, I asked Dr. Shetty to take videos of my eye under the slit lamp, in case I needed to see an opthamologist. I consulted with an opthamologist by phone and he was very surprised at how effective my treatment plan was when he saw the videos of my progression. I had an incredibly pleasant experience at Astoria Eye Care. When I entered, I was greeted by a very welcoming receptionist. She was able to answer all the questions that I had and showed me around the space. I've only had my vision tested once before; the screening that I experienced at AEC was awesome. The atmosphere and general vibe had an inviting feeling to it, while the decor was unique and refreshing. I had my eye examination with Dr. Shetty, who was very friendly and informative. If you don't like to read long reviews I"ll start by saying "best eye doc I've ever met, and if you need a new one Dr. Shetty is your man". Now for the review... Recently I realized that I was tired of suffering from constant headaches and eye strain and decided it was time for new glasses. Like many people I've often shopped at places like Lenscrafters who, let's be honest, are a glasses company who happen to have doctors. Well I discovered that there was a small shop just a couple of blocks from my house. I do love convenience. And the doctor (Dr. Shetty) was super helpful on the phone to make sure my insurance would work there. He did all the legwork, calling them for me which I really appreciated. And he said I could stop in anytime for a walk-in appointment which is also great because I tend to be terrible at keeping appointments and I love flexibility. Long story short I went in last Saturday (weekend hours rock) had a fantastic and super informative visit and exam. I had been wearing progressive lenses which I had no idea were so useless for the work I do (on the computer doing design 8+ hours a day). He explained why, answered all my questions and gave no impression that I was talking too much or wasting his time. An attitude that the entire healthcare world needs more of! He did a thorough exam that also checked specifically for the best option for a typical computer distance since that is really the only time I "need" glasses, did the dilation/eye health test and spent maybe 30 minutes helping me find the perfect frame style (you might not be able to tell from my review, but I'm super picky :D ). Honestly it was the easiest and most enjoyable eye doctor visit I've ever had. And boom 1 week later I have my new glasses which look great and even better let me really see the work i'm doing without squinting or tilting my head into strange positions. I really can't recommend Dr. Shetty highly enough. I will never grace the door of any Lenscrafters again! He's not just there to sell you the most expensive frames or package, he honestly cares that he provides a solution that works for you! If you need glasses or contacts Call Dr. Shetty immediately! I had such a great experience with Dr. Shetty. I came in for a contact lens exam and fitting and received a pretty detailed and thorough examination, and didn't feel rushed at all (like the previous optometrists I've been to), even there were one or two other people in the office. He was so nice and kind. Dr. Shetty gave some trial lenses from two different brands to try, and even helped me figure out that a one-year supply of daily lenses were completely covered my insurance due to my high prescription (so awesome). Quite possibly the best optometrist experience I have ever had! During the COVID crisis, my partner started seeing bright flashes when she closed her eyes. When we needed an emergency eye appointment to stem out the root of the problem, Dr. Shetty was the only optometrist who was immediately available (even during the pandemic, he didn't compromise his hours). When we arrived, Dr. Shetty saw us right away. I was walking around the area, and out of no where, I noticed Astoria Park Eyecare. At the time, I needed to get new prescription for my glasses, so I went in to check out the store. Apparently, I was Dr. Shetty's second customer! The store definitely has a unique and intimate feel to it. Dr. Shetty seems pretty knowledgable and thorough with the eye exam. Found out we went to the same HS. Overall, a pleasant guy to talk to. He noticed that the frames I was wearing was causing me to bruise in my nose area and recommended me to get lighter frames, which I did. Introduced me to the Siloutte frames, which is rimless and made of titanium. Love the new glasses, good quality at a reasonable price. Very stylish, yet very light. Doc Shetty is *amazing.* He is generous, adept, and attentive. He also takes the CUNY insurance, which is really helpful for me and anybody else that works in that system. Beyond that, though, he is compassionate. For example, he has a tool to measure eye pressure that lets him avoid shooting your eye with a puff of air. Not every doctor takes the time to invest in the tools that make us patients more comfortable, but they're the ones I want to see the most. There's not much that gets me from south Brooklyn to LIC, but Dr. Shetty is definitely on the list. Let all the 5 star reviews sway you - this is the place to go. read more

I was freaking out about my eyesight as I started having problems with my vision and was desperately looking for an optometrist. This was during COVID so almost all stores were closed. Luckily, I stumbled onto Astoria Park Eyecare. Dr. Shetty was able to schedule my husband (who has not gotten his eyes checked in years) and I right away. Throughout the whole process, he was extremely accommodating and took the time to explain to us everything we needed to know about our eyesight. You don't see doctors doing that very often, and we truly appreciated it! Overall, this was a really pleasant experience and he was so genuine. We even got special temporary glasses at the end to protect our eyes after the check up! Will definitely be recommending this place and coming back. I may have already left a review for Astoria I care last year when they opened when I bought glasses with them. But I am compelled to write about them again. The doctor here is so patient and professional and only serves with excellence I have very complicated progressive glasses and I have never been happier with a pair of glasses in my life. I just stopped back in and bought new reading glasses and sunglasses. I love my computer glasses that I bought last year. I went in with my little granddaughter and she fell in love with a little pair of glasses and he's turning them into sunglasses for her out of courtesy and I never even asked it was far too generous. We were in the store trying on at least 40 pairs of glasses for over an hour and the whole experience was pleasant and gentle and joyful. I can't wait to get my new glasses next week the doctor sizes the glassVery carefully to make sure that the progressive is exactly right I did not have any dizziness with my last pair of glasses. Dr. Rajat Shetty is caring, attentive and thorough. I had been going to Costco in the past for my eye examinations and contacts fitting. I went to Astoria Park Eyecare because it was so close to where I live, but now I will return because Dr. Shetty is the best. He was so patient with my particular problem with contact lenses. Gave me many different choices to try. He has also helped me on several occasions when I was having a problem taking out a contact that was "stuck". And most recently, I went to him with the same problem, and explained that I also had been having vision problems in the last week. Not only did he take out the stuck contact immediately, but found a 2nd one that I thought had eventually fallen out on its own and that was causing the vision problems.
