Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place. Tl;dr: the place needs upkeep and our prescriptions were wrong My husband and I went in for our annual eye exam, it was our first time here and we had the first appointment of the day. While waiting for the doctor to arrive i noticed how the shop was not well maintained, it seemed dingy and you can see old water stains on the walls. The Doctor came into the shop in a huff (maybe because he was late) and scuttled into the back. When he opened for us we threw on the charm and his attitude changed for the better, in fact i likes the guy - he seemed sweet and knowledgeable. When conducting the eye exam, I thought it was odd that he didn't do the glaucoma test (or any other test aside from the "is 1 better or 2") and when I asked about it he responded with "do you have diabetes?". It was odd but we went forward and he wrote down a prescription. I inquired about mine, as someone who has worn some kind of contact lenses and/or glasses for 20+ years, i thought it was interesting that my script went from minor to almost non existent - my husbands as well. Then it got weird and he was like defensive when we were honest about wanting to obtain our scripts and shop around. The people behind the counter (a younger woman and an middle aged woman) were nice, showed me a few frames and were very pleasant. However, as nice as they were, after ordering glasses, we discovered both our scripts were WRONG! So the primary function of our visit was bull in void. read more

My husband and I have been patronizing this business but it ended today - the front desk ugly woman was so rude and snotty - she has no manners, she just looked at me as if she can't wait to get rid of me, pretended not to hear when I was asking questions, doesn't offer me one bit of reason why I should get my eyeglasses there - she just keeps on shrugging n staring at me . What a poor response to customer service. Just went by to make enquiries as I don't know whether to purchase frames in store or get the exact model I want online. The lady was snippy and impatient and before I could ask anything further, she just walked away and went to the back. Did not invite me to try on a pair, did not ask me what kind of frames I had in mind, just gave me an impatient/bored vibe. You try to support local run businesses rather than go to retail chain outfits, but if this is the attitude, I'm happy to take my business elsewhere. read more

I've been going to Schrier Optical for over 20 years, and I have never had a problem. Mike Schrier is friendly, open, and honest. His brother, Larry, is the same, only funnier!. On the rare occasion that I've had a problem, Mike has gone out of his way to help make things right. Once, my son broke his glasses. I called Mike and he had a replacement pair ready the next day. The optometrist was very nice however I got a prescription that cost over $500 that isn't right for me. When I put on these glasses they make me feel sick to my stomach. I won't wear them. A total waste of money unless I get a proper prescription and can use the frames. When I picked up the glasses the sales person didn't bother to see if the frames fit properly. Time for this man to retire. I will not spend my money where someone acts like they're grudgingly doing me a favor. If you dislike your work please retire. The Dr. was barely civil during the exam and refused to give me an official copy of my prescription. He was obviously annoyed when I asked for a copy and then he seem to seethe as he jotted it down on a piece of note paper in an illegible manner. I started wearing glasses when I was 13 years old and I have been coming to this place ever since. I won't reveal my age - but it's definitely just about twenty years haha! I know the staff very well and they have never steered me wrong! Always courteous and professional! When I make appointments I've never had to wait either. The doctor takes his time with you and makes sure all questions are answered. Always explains things in detail too which is very helpful if you ever have any eye issues other than the norm. If you want particular frames or anything they are always helpful in getting you whatever you want. I honestly have no complaints about this place! I highly recommend! read more

If I could give these guys negative stars I would. They gave me a prescription that actually made my eyes WORSE. I asked them to take recheck my glasses and they told me that it was the result of working in front of a computer screen, in spite of the fact that I've never had any issue with a computer screen before. They suggested looking out the window every 25 minutes or so to relax my eyes, something I never had to do prior to getting this new prescription. When I told Dr. Schrier himself that this did nothing to help, they told me that I had to either get a specialist to give me a new prescription or there was nothing he could do for me. He then proceeded to hang up the phone on me. Do a google search on these guys. I've been coming to see Stuart Schrier for 15 years. I have a particularly difficult prescription-as well as Varilux lenses-and other optometrists couldn't get it right. Stuart worked with me through a few changes of prescription until it was perfect. I never had as thorough an exam elsewhere. Highly recommend. read more

This is a solid place, the customer service is a little gruff, but the prices are reasonable and the eye care is good. I like having a small family owned place like this in the neighborhood, have had ghastly experiences with big chains like Cohen's and this place is leagues above them. read more

I have been coming here for a few years. I have seen two different optometrists, both were very nice and helpful. They explained everything in an easy to understand manner. When I went in for contacts the assistant was super helpful and patient while I learned to put them in. And both times I have come in for new glasses the assistant was REALLY great helping me pick out frames, since I had no one with me to be a second opinion. I have never had a bad experience here. The only thing is sometimes you wait a while for your appointment, but that is true of every doctor's office. read more

As a customer for the past three years, not just me, my wife and my 8 year old son, have to said that today is the last time I give my business to this place. They have a great employee name Jennifer, who since day one made us feel welcome, her service was great every time. Sadly today Sunday I had to encounter the owner of the place, huge mistake. I was picking up a second pair of glasses for my son (not covered for Insurance) and at the same time have fix a lense from a new set of Ray-Bans​ done for my kid early in the month, said no more, this man did not liked the simple fact that work needed to be done to claim to the insurance, went on a loud disrespectful way to speak down to my wife and never had the time to listen, in fact didn't wanted to listen. I work as manager on a large store in Union square Manhattan, and my customer are always right, l always listen, well it looks like if you are the owner, this don't apply. In NYC hard business competition with so many choices, still is hard to comprehend how a guy just talk to a regular customer that way. Of course my businesses now will go somewhere else, and I will tell my son's doctor not to refer more patients to this place.
