I just been there, my dog is their pacient for more then 6 months. All they want is take your money. Last time I've been to them they charged me 90$ they looked at him 2 min and that's it. He have a swallowing at his eye and they told me it's nothing, just use warm water. Today my dog stepped in a paint and I was to them asking what to do and how to clean and they told me that they don't have nothing to give or tell me. They sent me at the pharmacy, the pharmacy told me it's weird that they sent me to them without any prescription. All they want is your money and that's it. Stay away from them! read more

I take care of a colony, and one of the strays seems to have worms. I made an appointment to have her examined and treated, but I received a call WHILE I WAS AT WORK to say that, since the cat coming in is a stray and they don't know if she'll allow them to hold her, they wanted me to bring her in the next day to be sedated. Sedated for a wellness exam?! All of this simply because she's a stray? Well, I guess it's good to know that business is so great for them that they don't need to bother with strays in need. After losing Dr. Pet MD, I was hoping to find a new vet for my two indoor and four outdoor babies. I'll definitely be looking elsewhere. My money is better spent on individuals who actually want to help ALL animals. read more

I've been coming here since before I got my two kitties in 2002. They always provide top quality service, especially my go to veterinarian, Dr. Jodie Smith. Today was a day that I dreaded. My rescue kitty, Amelie, almost 21 years old lost the use of her hind legs two days ago, but was still eating and drinking when I brought her the food and water. Having read about this condition in senior cats, I felt it was time to let my favorite being ever, go. I came in the afternoon and Dr. Smith squeezed me in between her already packed schedule. After looking at Amelie, who she knew from when she was a few months old, Dr. Smith agreed that it was time. This was done in the most compassionate way possible. I opted for her ashes in an urn for another family member who would appreciate it. Amelie, one of the sweetest and naughtiest cats ever will be greatly missed. Adopting her from the shelter was one of the best decisions I've ever made. read more

It saddens me to write this but there is no heart at this practice. I have been taking my beagle here for the last 11 years and when I called to let them know she passed away, they shared their condolences and closed the file. I expected at least a sympathy card, but I guess we're just another client. Conversely, I did have another back up vet who I had only gone to 2-3x. I used to go there, but had to leave due to terrible communication from the front desk and the horrible, rude manager. There were issues with not being able to get appts, being told to pay more for an emergency, etc. The final straw was this: my cat had a nail overgrown into her foot pad. She didn't scratch too much, so it was a recurring issue and I'd had to bring her in previously, as she didn't allow me to cut her nails. I noticed tone Sunday morning so frantically called the office and told them what the problem was, and that she needed to be seen immediately. The front desk apparently reported it as a "nail clipping." She was taken from me in the waiting room and I wasn't allowed to go back. A few minutes later, the manager came out and called me into the back. He proceeded to YELL at me in front of a room full of staff, how I was a horrible person for not taking care of my cat. WHY DIDNT YOU TELL US ABOUT THIS???? I was too shocked to do anything but burst into tears. WTF WAS I THERE FOR IF I DIDN'T CARE FOR MY CAT? Seriously. I hate that guy. (I've also seen where he has bullied people who complain on their FB page.) I never went back. And it's a shame, bc the vets were actually decent and caring. I'd honestly like to go back there bc the care my pets got (when not dealing with bs) was good-but not if the issues there persist. read more

I've been taking my dogs there ever since 2019. Today I took my puppy, 2 1/2 months old because he had a fall, and they turned us away. My poor baby was whimpering latched on to me and drool coming out of his mouth. They wanted to send me to a place in the city. I honestly was mortified. Will I continue going there, absolutely not. The past couple of months, both my golden retrievers have literally been on death's door and I want to personally thank DR SONG, DR MONTOYA & DR SMITH for saving the lives of both my golden retrievers; Brooklyn and Penelope. Penelope had digested some toxic stuff in October; which had left her paralyzed from the waist down and incoherent. Brooklyn had a hot spot next to his left ear that got progressively worse around Thanksgiving. Both times, the vets treated and cared for them all while I was a hot mess. In early December, Brooklyn had a mass on his right toe which he had to have amputated. He was also neutered earlier last year. Every single time I have gone here, I have trusted my dogs in their hands. Money should never be a question when it comes to the ones that love you unconditionally. To Ali Mason, I just want to clear my name and let you know what happened and how your front desk staff have been conducting themselves rudely and being inconsiderate to me on two occasions since you didn't even care to know and try to find out what happened. I thought being a Director is knowing what happened first on certain issues so you can improve and instruct your staff on how they can treat your clients better. But instead this letter you sent me stating I can no longer bring my dog toyour clinic shows you're biased and proves you don't even give a damn about my dog and his owner who have been going there for more than ten years now. If I was really rude or treated everyone there rudely you would have seen it since the beginning but this incidents only happened this year because of a couple of newly hired staff who were insensitive to me and my dog who at that time was vomiting and sick. Before placing me on hold several times for 10 minutes and the other 15 minutes I was still polite and respectful but when I tried to call again for the 3rd time whoever was at the front desk kept hanging up on me purposely more than 5 times knowing it was urgent and just needed to leave a call back message for any doctor to give me some advice. So for your information they weren't trying to assist me but ignored my call! That's why I reacted the way I did and for your information I did call the next day to appologize to the same person. But did she appologize for hanging up on me on purpose knowing it was me calling? No! Did any doctor even bother to return my call regarding my sick dog? No! And the other incident happened this year when I waited more than an hour for Dr. Smith and if I did not ask the guy at the front desk what was going on he would have not cared and continue to let me sit there with my dog for another hour knowing already before hand that the doctor had an emergency but of course he left out that detail but could have told me before hand so I didn't have to waste my time. This is how caring and accomodating your new staff are. I never cursed at anyone or have been rude or been discourteous to my dog's doctors so be careful throwing false accusations at me. If that was really the case I would have not been a loyal client for more than ten years! As an effective director you should first clarify what happened and talk to the client involved before writing them off and dismissing them just like that without knowing the other side of the story. I never had any issues with any doctors there so get your facts straight and your false accusations corrected! I would gladly go elsewhere where people's time, feelings and loyalty are greatly appreciated not just their money! read more

I usually have a good experience here but one of the girls at the front desk with heart eye makeup was incredibly unprofessional today, snapping at me after my husband and I were asking her questions about our dog's diet. My dog was prescribed dog food where there has been a long shortage from the manufacturer and so we're running low on food. It's completely unavailable here and online. We've called other vet offices and they also don't have them. We're super out of luck and so we asked for suggestions on what to do next like if we should switch proteins or another brand. The girl at the desk just shamed us on how we didn't have a month's supply as back up and how our dog will get sick if we keep switching his food. Again, we are aware that we were unprepared but the vet should've prescribed a more available dog food and this isn't comforting to dog parents in a tough situation. All we can do is move forward and be more prepared in the future. Sheesh. read more

It is unfortunate that after 30 years I stopped bringing my pets there because the staff is rude and they unprofessional and unsanitary. The service in the last year has been so offensive and poor that I can no longer bring my pets there in good conscience. Customers have to deal with an immature staff. This morning, a person at the desk picked their nose after sniffling and proceeded to pack up my pets medicine without cleaning her hands, even after I called her out on it. Her mask was under her chin and she tells me that she was not required to wear a mask. Another staff member slammed an IV bag on top of my cat's soft carrier with him inside. The staff rude on the phone when you try to make or change an appointment. It's nearly impossible to get an appointment in a timely manner. They claim to have emergency services but will refuse an emergency appointment when needed. Most of my friends who went to Astoria Veterinary Group for decades have left. It's sad because the vets there are good but the rest of the staff leave a lot to be desired They have no heart there. Only care about money. read more

My request as to when it was noted that my cat's immunization records were not received by the office should not be met with "don't get upset with me" by the vet as we were in the examination room. I will not tolerate such an unprofessional tone. I have been more than patient with the office in regards to a name changes, notifications for deceased pets, etc. When I had the same issue last week Dr Fitzgerald was patient and made sure my cat was comfortable as she was proactive in finding the records as she realizes we are all functioning in a PANDEMIC. Have been coming here since 2016 but this is a very different place now, not sure what happened. Private equity? Doesn't matter really, it's unrecognizable from the previous Astoria Veterinary Group, where we received excellent care and advice. Doctors seem uninterested and in a hurry, not to get too much into the details but the care was adequate/bare minimum. This was the second time in 4 months we've been there with the same 'don't care here's your bill' attitude. Might not be how everyone there behaves, might not be the vets' fault, but the vibe is not exactly endearing. I understand this is a business, but talk about the tail wagging the dog here. While I can forgive a bad day or two, I think the tone was really confirmed while I was in the waiting area: one of the receptionists loudly asked someone on the phone several times what they "wanted to do with the ashes." Everyone could hear them. Five minutes later they were loudly joking around with colleagues saying "F--- you" and "Jesus f----ing Christ." Either get a back office or have some rules about professionalism, come on. There's a whole slew of terrible reviews from the past two years. Do yourself a favor and read them, I wish I had. Fine I'll play along to your made up rules. After speaking with my girl she was able to secure an appointment over the phone and so off we were to what I can only describ as...in other words....if this is the norm for Vets, please for everyones sanity please close down now and find a new profession. The level of how much this sucked I wish I was in line at the DMV while getting a root canal during a tax audit. Yeah....I know harsh but unfortunately for all of us true. If anyone has read my past reviews it takes a lot for me to give out one star....I think this may be the second time...ever! Just to sum up why this belongs on the list of " oh they shut down, oh well" list: Terrible phone assistance, the girl had no idea how much anything costs Waiting on the sidewalk with blaring traffic while patrons right next to you blow smoke from the hookah shop into your face! The vet assistant continuously opening and closing the door with zero interest in your well being only to hand us a bill North of $400 without a breakdown of the services offered. $85 for a blood test?!?! My cat had to have his teeth removed due to dental disease. I was told that getting rid of all of his teeth would prevent any reoccurrence of infection, and he seemed to do well after the procedure. Recently, my cat had sizable swelling of his jaw. I took him to a new vet, and they found that an entire tooth along with 5 additional tooth roots had been left behind, causing a severe bone infection that cost me over $1k to diagnose and treat. I would not recommend coming here for feline dental work. read more

My past experiences have been 4-5 stars, but unfortunately my recent visit would be 0 stars if that was an option. With Covid-19 I'm totally understandable to adjustments that need to be made, but the foolery that occurred the other day is just ridiculous. I had an appointment & arrived about 15 mins early, upon arriving I had saw a man standing outside, so I waited in my car. Once I saw a worker bringing his dog out, I then got out the car & stood back (social distancing) until he was done talking with the worker. Now I'm standing a few feet back with a big pet carrier & I find it hard to believe the worker didn't see me, but either way she didn't acknowledge me after she was done with the prior customer. I than walk up to the door, to be faced with about 10 signs posted on their window & door. One of the signs on the door stated "don't ring the bell unless your a delivery carrier" & another sign on the window stated "no customers allowed inside & you cannot accompany your pet during the visit". I was startled by that sign because I have a cat that I've had since he was a kitten & anyone who has a cat knows cats identify you based on your scent. I didn't feel comfortable handing my cat over to strangers (the usual doctor I see wasn't available so I had scheduled an appointment with a different doctor) & him not recognizing the scent of any of the people on top of, due to my visit my cat probably would've had to get a shot because some work needed to be done on his nail. So now I'm standing at the door for about 10 minutes still no one came to the door, than a gentleman approaches & says "you need to call the number", which the phone number was also printed on the window. I said "ok", although confused why would I need to call when you just approached me, but I digress. So I call the number & let them know, I've been outside waiting about 15 minutes & I have an appointment. The young lady I spoke with said "ok, someone will be right out". Someone comes outside & ask what's going with my cat, I tell them & mention to them, is there anyway I could go in with my pet since he's not familiar with anyone in there. She than states she'll ask the manager to see if an accommodation can be made. A gentleman comes outside & what do ya know, it's the same gentleman who said "you have to call" smh he than says to me"no we can't have anyone come in", I then tell him my cat would be more comfortable if he recognized the scent of someone while you work on him, which is already nerve racking enough, but he stated he couldn't let me come in. I said ok I'll just reschedule. I go back to my car & call again & spoke with the same young lady I spoke to prior & rescheduled my appointment with the doctor my cat has seen in the past. I asked her if she was in the office or at a central location & she said she's in the office. Smh I just don't understand why a delivery carrier can ring the bell, but not customers, that's just very puzzling. When everything is going good great, but it's during times like this when it matters most to see how a business would treat a customer under circumstances like we're facing right now. I feel the way they're conducting business right now is just unsatisfactory. Having the 10+ signs on the door & window, having a manager tell me call, when he was already in front of me & could've assisted was just ridiculous & if he felt that isn't something he handles, than he should've sent a worker out there to assist vs having me call right in the office. This experience was just awful & really has me reconsidering even doing business again with them. I was totally frustrated with how everything was handled. read more

Hi Dr. Anthony Sakal, In the 4 years I have been bringing my dog to your office, I have never once seen the same doctor. Why is that? On 5/18 I had an appointment with Dr. Montoya @ 2pm for vaccinations and I needed flea/tick medication. I was told that the Dr. would call me during the appointment to address any concerns. My dog was welcomed in at 2:10pm, no big deal. At 2:25pm I received a call from your front desk "Hi, for Dallas, $225." There was no call from the doctor. I was frustrated by this. I was annoyed by the fact that I was being asked for money without having any knowledge of the service being provided and without speaking to the doctor. I had my dog upstate and he had several ticks on him. Which is why I opted to take an appointment during a pandemic. I spoke to Sorel a few days later. He said he had to speak with Dr. Montoya. 5/24- I received a VERY long, voice mail from Sorel stating that the front desk and doctor said I was annoyed that I had to wait. Sorel stated that there was a "discrepancy between my story and their stories". I called Sorel back a few moments ago and explained that I felt like he was turning this around or into something else. This had nothing to do with the time I had to wait... I wasn't even waiting long at all. In fact, there were people standing outside with their dog for 15 minutes before I arrived to drop off my dog, when I came back for my dog, those people were still standing outside with their dog. They complained to me about how long they had been out there. Elderly couple... really nice people. A shame you had them standing out there with their dog for more than an hour past their appointment time. Anyway... At the end of the day, I do not feel like I should be responsible for the $73 "office visit" fee. I spoke to a friend who is a vet oncologist in NY and he told me I should dispute the office charge since I never spoke to the doctor. It's insane to think that this is somehow acceptable. I called to complain that I didn't speak to the doctor and I get a call back talking about something completely unrelated to what I had originally complained about. I asked Sorel what his intentions were when he said he wants to "Resolve this issue" and he replied back "there is not resolution because you have different stories". It seems like after 2 months of operating this way, it's still impossible for your team to get it right. Had my dog not been covered in ticks a few days prior to the 18th, I would not have brought him in during a pandemic. Your team is not capable of properly communicating with the patients owners. Plain and simple. This should not have happened. Your team has an elderly couple waiting outside with their dog for more than an hour, calling people in before them. There appointment was also at 2pm. This should not have happened. When I spoke to the "office manager" I told him that I feel like he's turning this into something else.... he starts getting all upset saying "feelings are out the window, feelings are out the window".... I have a transcript I would like to share with you from my conversation with him today. In addition to the voice message he left me, call logs from 5/18. I was told that you are going to call me back. I do not expect to hear from you as it seems like your office doesn't want this to be resolved. However, I want you to know that I do not appreciate the lack of professionalism, I am disappointed by the fact that the doctor failed to call me during the appointment to address my concerns. I am troubled by the lack of customer service provided to resolve this issue. read more

Seems like a trend with appointments being made to only show up and find out that they scheduled it on another day. I left a voicemail requesting an appointment and my call was never returned. I had to walk in over a week later only to be greeted by rude office staff, the man in particular. I asked for the following week for an appointment only to show up on that day and find out that he made it for the next week after that. No apologies, no accountability... just rude. When I explained that I will be changing offices, the man was quick to send me my animal's file via email before being requested. Amazing that they are quick to do that but cannot figure out basic scheduling. Also, my animal's file was incorrect. The office is small and while I liked the vet that we originally saw, it's not worth the hassle or stress. Ridiculous. Good for routine visits, but after the long wait and may be 15 minutes spent with your pet it's not worth it. I'm a cat owner so I don't know how it is when they treat dogs. I really hate to give poor reviews but I did warn the owner of this clinic at this would happen after the poor advice and treatment was given to one of my cats which resulted in me losing her Suddenly. The change in her behavior alarmed me and I brought my cat in, and the fact that treated her did an x-ray and pointed out a growth near one of her organs that she didn't know what it was. Don't you think she could have asked one of her colleagues? but of course not, not only did she send me home Dumbfoundead and worried she had the audacity to come into the waiting room while we she had the audacity to come into the waiting room while I was waiting to pay (after receiving no answer as to why my cat was sick) and said to me " she might not make it" . Inadvertently admitting that this Clinic has a dismissive attitudeand puts very little effort int treating cats with more severe illnesses. Not only that, they recommend treatments of administering fluids for hydration intravenously, which for this cat basically filled her lungs when she should have been given a diuretic. I brought my cat,Ashes there who was diagnosed with a mild form of kidney disease, and not only were fluids unnecessary at that stage but they suggested an overdose of fluids that caused this cat to develop anemia. So not only was she mistreated, but they caused her to become even more sick. We had been bringing this cat in for routine checkups because of the kidney disease, and after noticing that she would make complaining noises when picked up and touched a certain part of her stomach when picked up. The vet didn't Iook concerned or offer to do an ultrasound. If they did they would have noticed early stages of lymphoma , which She died of last week. They informed me that Ashes may have lymphoma with only 4-6 weeks to live (this was in December) and only a biopsy(which would be risky since it requires full anaesthesia according to them) would determine. Lefferts Animal hospital did the biopsy with minimal sedation. After the diagnosis of lymphoma was made, Lefferts even recommended oncologists by name, which Astoria did not. Unfortunately, by the time of the diagnosis it was too late. Had our concerns been addressed earlier and the right amount of fluids had been prescribed, I'm sure both of my beloved cats would still be with me today. I have noticed that the owner of this Clinic makes the effort to reply to any negative reviews. There is no way that can be made up to me. I raised both of these cats from a very young age, they are dear to me and I am forever going to feel guilty that I made the horrible mistake bringing them to your clinic. Not only that, you completely disappeared when I politely called mind to handle this man to man. Again, my only reasoning for that was to make sure that nobody else ever had to go through what I went through, and ironically enough that person who had to go through it please me a second time. You're more than welcome to check through my records through my name and the pets names to see if what I'm saying is legitimate. I'm not asking for a refund, which I deserve or even an apology. If you want to show that you are taking what I'm saying seriously, please change the way you you conduct business. And even more so, you can look up the amount that we spent at your clinic you can donate that to an animal charity in their names, such as Angels of Animals. In November of 2019, I brought in my 3 year old baby boy (he is the little guy pictured in my profile picture) because he got sick out of nowhere. It was a Sunday and after being turned down by other clinics because they were closing early, I was grateful that I was given the time of day. My boy went from unconscious to responsive in a matter of a few hours. I was feeling hopeful because Dr. Crespo was discussing options for how we would be caring for him at home after they treated him. It was about 5 or 6pm, they were closing and they told us we had to bring him to a 24 hour vet to make sure he would make it through the night and then we could bring him back here the next day. I understood because he seemed okay again and people needed to go home. Simba was alert but still very sick because they could not get his body temp back to what it should be and so they sent us off with him wrapped in a towel and warm water balloons to keep him warm while we made our way to the 24 hour location. It still hurts deep down that Simba died 5 minutes after leaving, in my arms on the car ride over. I've been wanting to visit them again so that they don't think that we just never came back because maybe he made a full recovery, but it hurts too much to think about going back to a place where I went through such a range of emotions. Thankfully I haven't much of a reason to come to AVG in a few years, but when my senior dog had a worrying incident, AVG was quick to be there for us and give my dog the help he needed. The staff was very polite to me over the phone and in person. They were very helpful and accommodating in scheduling our appointments, especially when I was the most concerned for my pup. (My only comment is that I wish whoever took the payments, explained the bill before asking for the payment.) I saw others complain of long wait time, but I was seen very quickly - a vet tech came out to get my dog's history and took my dog in within 10 minutes of me arriving. Dr. Song was very patient and understanding of my concerns. She took great care of my dog and he's been returning to old self slowly but surely. Being in the medical field myself (for humans, not pets lol), I thought Dr. Song was an excellent provider and made the best decisions for my dog's health. She called me with my dog's bloodwork results a few days later and really took the time to explain what everything meant and the next steps we'd be taking in his care. I noticed some reviews complaining about the billing, which is expensive of course, but not totally unexpected. I thought my bill was fairly priced in terms of the services we received - you can't just compare the price of your pet's medical care to your own/the cost of maintaining your car (???) and expect similar pricing, that's not how this works! Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions, they are not allowing anyone in the clinic - which sucks as I'm sure many pets are anxious alone, but I understand and appreciate the extra precautions AVG is taking to keep everyone safe. read more

After experienced horrible Veterinary Care Group at Forest Hills, it was excellent and professional experience we had. My new puppy had spayed and it was very pleasant experience. Highly recommend this clinic with Dr. Song and Montoya. Staff here is excellent, especially Gabby. read more

this place sucks. took my cat here to get shots told me it would be $170 over the phone for everything. Okay not terrible... take her the next day get everything done get to the counter $238. 238?! for what?? seriously? i tried complaining off my ass about how that was complete BS and that was NOT what they said on the phone, lady tells me no must of been a mistake. Yeah okay. Whatever. Very rude people here. Miscommunication whatever tf you wanna call it. Either way they suck! Also side note i asked how much to get her fixed. they told me $600 ! Really???? What tf is wrong with you idiots?!!! Im not from the city. This was all for a friend i gave the cat to. Staff is very helpful! And kind. We had to bring our puppy In, and saw Dr. Smith. She was very kind to our pup and even made the effort to have her become comfortable with her. She explained everything in full detail, and really made our dog feel comfortable. Great place, great ppl! read more

Scheduled an appointment for today but when I went they told me it was for tomorrow ...... when I called the lady was rude and sounded like she couldn't be bothered by helping me schedule an appointment. Probably wanted to hang up the phone fast and didn't even confirm the appointment time with me. When I got there the receptionists were also rude ..... you'd think the people that work at a vets office would be kind and caring especially since they're going to be the ones looking after your family members .... ridiculous. My dog is big so it's not easy bringing her back and forth. I asked if there was any way to squeeze her in since there was only ONE other person waiting in the waiting room. The lady rudely said no. I work at a ortho office- if a patient were to come in I wouldn't turn they away once they were already here. I've been To other vets and EVERYONE was insanely nice and caring. I have been taking my pets there for over 30 years..Dr Smith is truly one of the best vets you could come across.. however i recently drove from Greenwich were i moved to take my seriously Ill cat there and they took blood work ..took our money and we have been calling and calling and calling for 4 days and no one cares to return our calls or tell us what is wrong with the cat...the stuff are the rudest people you will come across. There is no thanks or goodbye or any kind words . There is no communication. Just angry looks and rude I. I have ney witness anything like that in life. Please Doni take your pet there. read more
