I am very angry with RCN. Go to pay my bill over the phone and the automatic phone service takes way more than I indicated it to take out of my bank account. Took them a minute to take it but I have to wait three days for it to be returned. Then because your a good customer for a year let's increase your payment. Service isn't the greatest the WIFI goes out constantly and it is slow. Because of their era now other bills can't get paid. Thank you RCN for the stress I did not need. read more

Worst Internet and cable I've ever experienced, so we switched to fios. They said they'd send a mailer packet to send the equipment back since their drop off location (only one?!?!) is 2.5 hours away - instead of a mailer we got a $500 bill. My boyfriend called and got it taken care of and they sent an email label to ship the equipment back. We took it to FedEx and paid $23 out of pocket to have it properly shipped, insured, and get a signature. The package was delivered and signed for 3 days later but we got ANOTHER (!!!!!) $500 bill. My boyfriend called back again with our now long list of job orders, confirmation numbers, tracking IDs, etc - RCN refuses to acknowledge and says we MAY get an answer within a week. I have been an RCN customer for close to 20 years. Yesterday I received a bill for a $26 increase per month for the internet service I purchase from them. The bill stated I was going from $46 to $72 per month for the same service. There was no change in speed, home equipment, etc... I was told that cost do go up... This is extremely unacceptable. After 3 long phone calls they reduced the charge from $72 to $58 plus taxes. I'm told they are reducing my bill that's the best they can do. This is not a reduction from $46 per month its an increase and a reduction on their outrages inflated bill of $72. So I now need to pay $12 more a month for the same service. This is not right. I asked for a detail IT list of equipment that's been upgrade / installed to support this increase. I doubt I will get one. I will look for another provider and so should you... read more

I have been an rcn customer in two homes with years off in between but a total of 25-30 years, the last 20 continual in our present home. Their staff that does repairs in the field are alright. There customer service in person and on the phone are quite poor. It is nearly impossible to reach them by phone anymore. You must jump through several minutes of menus just to find that no one is available to help you for 30 minutes or more. Their internet is not fast. Also, I recently got bounced out of my rcn emails by some network problem that took a weekend and two rcn techs and my niece to fix. As others have stated, my bill creeps up every couple of months and then I must navigate to a live person in order to re-bundle which is still costly but saves me a little. Why don't they do this? I currently pay about $196 a month for internet, wifi, and cable with no movie packages. I only watch about 8-10 channels but am forced to pay for dozens of music, sports, foreign, shopping and kids channels that I do not use. There are even some "networks" that I find morally offensive. I do not see why channels that cannot support themselves should be preserved by grouping them with marketable ones. There may come a time that we will go back to broadcast tv and dvds. I always feel I pay WAY TOO MUCH for the benefit I get. Now I get an overdue notice for a bill due on 12/27. I paid that bill on 12/1 . I cannot help what the post office does. Horrible customer service and dishonest billing practices. After one year of service my bill increased over $20 a month. Called customer service and they said "sure we can lower your bill." Was on hold for over 40 minutes only for them to come back only to try to up sell me on additional service I don't want or need. Tried to cancel service and was put on hold for an additional 20 minutes. After wasting almost an hour I hung up. Called back multiple times only to have the automated system either hang up on me or transfer me to a busy signal. They are obviously trying to make it impossible to cancel or downgrade their service. I will be investigating options for filing complaints with FCC and local BBB. read more

I am done with this RCN Cable company !!!! . I in Allentown PA. 18103 . For a year now I have been problems with them as far as my by bill is concerned . Thus I switched my plan with them for Wi-Fi computer Internet only. Since the begining of 2020 RCN has been charging me more money monthly than If I had both Cable and Internet . My nephew is with RCN Cable . He is in downtown Allentown and he is paying around $ 74.00 monthly for Cable and Wi-Fi computer service !!!!. RCN service is billing me around $ 108.00 monthly FOR WI-FI ONLY !!!! . Of course I want to cancel immediately and pay my last bill right now but here is the clincher: RCN IS NOT PICKING UP ANY PHONE CALLS NOW REGARDLESS OF THE TYPE OF SERVICE REQUESTED. However, the ONLY GOOD service they have now IS TO COLLECT THE MONTHLY CHARGE YOU OWE THEM ! Here's the update. I cancelled service, turned in equipment, was told I had 8 days "credit" on my account. I switched away from cable a couple months ago to just 25 Mbps internet service (I would have stayed with RCN if they actually provided 25 Mbps - only 5 Mbps showed up - and I was told over and over it was my fault). RCN sends ME a bill for $104 (get this, my monthly rate was $42) AFTER I cancelled and turned their equipment in. I called to complain, was told it will get credited -- was sent yet another bill for $42. I called to complain, was sent yet ANOTHER bill for $30. I complained yet again, and was told pay it or it goes to a collection agency. I asked for the name of the supervisor and was told they aren't allowed to give that out. Was supposed to have a tech dispatched to fix a severed internet cable. After calling and having them try to reset the modem over the phone, an appointment with a 4 hour window was made over the phone for the next day. After taking off from work, the window came and went. Called RCN to see if the tech was still coming or not. When I called the 2nd time, they had no records of any kind of any service problems or that I had ever contacted them regarding the problem. No record of a phone call made, or a modem reset, or a tech appointment, nothing. Took off from work for nothing. read more

I wish I could give them no stars. By far the worst customer service I've ever encountered. I'm not one to call and complain or make problems. You catch more bees with honey. That being said when I called about an unusually high bill I was met with a customer service representative talking over me and interrupting me constantly. Last time I called RCN I was told my bill was that high bc they were "phasing" out my current plan but I could be upgraded to a new plan and locked into this price for 24 months. I agreed but less than a year later my price shot up by $25. I called to get it back to the correct price, only to be told there's nothing to be done. I said ok please transfer me to the department so I can change or cancel my plan. He was like you want to cancel today??? I said well I need to get my bill back down to what it was, so I either need to change plans or cancel. Ok...comes back. We can take $10 off. Ok wait a minute, you just told me there's nothing you can do. SHADY. I say I appreciate all the work you're doing but I really need it to be this price, this is the price I was promised for 24 months. The representative then tells me ok well lower your plan but you'll need a different modem....ok wait a second. This is the second "plan" I've had with the same modem( both plans were different speeds) and it never needed to be switched. I was so tired of being talked over I asked for a supervisor, only to be told that one isn't available and I'd receive a call back. I've never been more frustrated. New clients are paying 44/month for the same plan and I'm paying 100/month, when I was told that I would pay 76/month for 24 months. This business is not at all transparent, hard to work with, customer service is terrible and I'm resetting my modem at least 3-4xs/week I would never recommend them. Switching to Verizon. UPDATE: A supervisor, Angelee, did call me back and she was awesome. Not only did she apologize for the first representative I talked to, she was able to adjust my pricing. I called their customer service, which I believe rerouted me to this location, to cancel my service because I'm having surgery and need to leave my apartment to recover elsewhere. I spoke to the kindest woman named Mary who was nothing but helpful and she got me all squared away. Two days later I returned to my apartment and found a handwritten note from Mary, wishing me luck on my surgery. It was unexpected and incredibly touching. Thank you, Mary. For everything. read more

I called last night around 9pm because I feel like my internet service is consistently being tampered with. The representative that answered the phone named Eric kept repeatedly saying orangutan to me on the phone. After I said excuse me what did you say? He repeated orangutan, being a person of color I was extremely offended at being called a monkey on the phone and hung up. I immediately called back to speak to a supervisor. Another representative answered the phone but refused to put me on the phone with a supervisor or give me the name of one. I feel like my internet service is being tampered with and that my password and personal information is being used. When I try to change my password on my account at their site that is associated with my phone number it doesn't work. And this issue still hasn't been resolved. Also my bill started off at forty something dollars a month when I first got this service and then 55-57, then 65 and has now skyrocketed to 85 dollars a month. I don't understand the reason for the spike in charges and didn't get any notice that they were increasing the price before hand. I have been told countless times that my bill would be under $110 and would be guaranteed to stay there, and my last bill was $146. it has been as high as $187. I finally gave up and cancelled their service, now they want me to ship their equipment back to them! I switched to Fios with a 2 year price warranty. One week after I cancelled RCN, they called me to find out why I had dropped them. I live in a apartment complex where I can only have rcn cable/ internet. When I called to have my service turned on they told me that I would be paying $119.00 a month for Internet and cable. After about 1/2 a month I got a bill for $197.00. When I called they couldn't explain to me why it was so high, after asking to speak to a manager he told me I was being charged for a full month when I only started it half way through. The next month I received a bill for $412.00. Once again I called them and they couldn't explain why, since I'm have no other choice I paid the $412.00 and canceled my cable now I have only Internet. I pay $60 a month for Internet that does not work I have to constantly reset the box. I returned the equipment once already. This is the worst service I have ever had. When we move we will not be getting RCN again and I will never recommend it to anyone ever. read more

Literally the worst choice for cable, phone, or internet in the Lehigh Valley. We dealt with both the consumer and the business sides. Finally figured out it was the same call center and the same inept customer service reps answering both sides. Was lied to about prices by a coward in the sales department, not a single bill was ever correct, and most technical details had contradictory answers depending on which rep you talked to. If you have another choice for either your home or business, go with them instead. Nothing is worth the headache and frustration you will get dealing with RCN. I've never had a problem with the internet or cable service. But they will rob you blind unless you are paying attention to each and every bill. Sure, the new customer rate is good. But without notice, they will start increasing it by a couple of dollars every month. Mine went from $60 to $90 in less than 3 years for basic basic cable and internet. The last straw was when it went from $84 to $90 in one month. I called to either cancel or get a lower rate. All they offered was an internet speed increase. I've been with RCN for 5 years. This post has been edited to reflect my most recent experience. Recently my son (gamer) moved back home and now Internet slowness is an issue. Was paying $62.00 for 55 speed. I was hesitant about calling and thinking of using Hughesnet. Well, I figured I'd give RCN one more shot. And I'm glad I did. The gentleman I spoke to offered 1 gig for only $10 more (with taxes & equipment) and gave us 50% off installation. I think they finally get it. Was nice to have a good experience again. read more

We've had RCN for 9 years but I'm done with them. Just can't take the frustration any longer. They charge too much and the service has become ridiculously horrible. We have their DVR and 3 of the satellite units. They were fine until they switched over to cable boxes for the additional lines. Their cable boxes have been crap from day one. Randomly I will have trouble with the picture being pixelated on & off. This goes on for hours usually. This happens even more frequently when you try to watch their On Demand option. Honestly, about 8 times out of 10 that I try to watch something using this feature I have difficulty with it being pixelated on & off. The majority of the time it doesn't improve and I end up turning the show off. For several months now even the DVR box has been problematic. There are many times we can't watch the HD version of a channel because it cuts in & out. At least once EVERY day for months this has been an issue. The picture & sound cut out, reverting to a blue screen. Then the sound returns but no picture. A few minutes later the picture finally returns. It doesn't usually last long but it's aggravating nonetheless. For example, this occurred 3 times as 10 of us (family & friends) sat around watching the season finale of Game Of Thrones. Their internet isn't that bad. We don't have outages, tho the speed is nowhere near as fast as what I'm paying for. I HATE the choices of cable in the Lehigh Valley. We used to have Service Electric but the outages were awful. We've been holding out thru these problems in the hope something like FIOS would make it up here but we're done. We pay FAR too much to be getting service like have been getting since they forced every line to have a cable box (which you have to pay to rent, btw). read more

Our customer service experience for the advertised 24/7 phone availability is a joke. We are kept in voice messages warning us of over 30 minute waits whether trying to reach to get tech support or add a new service as a current customer. BUT, if you attempt to call as if wanting new service your call is answered in 20 seconds. We are on a thread to leave this company. RCN cable has always been happy to take your money, laugh in your face, and give you nothing for the rip off prices they feel they are entitled to. We can't get FiOS and they know it. Television service for the last few weeks has been terrible - weekends of 7/29, 8/5,& 8/12 - there was extreme picture pixelation making programs UN watchable during prime time weekend programming. Then there was this weekend where premium stations (HBO,MAX, & SHO) were only intermittently available... screen showed "TEMPORARILY OFF AIR - please check back later." message. Calls to RCN generates no resolution. Telephone service rep insisted upon scheduling a service call for what is clearly some kind of "central " broadcast issue. This is some of the worst service I've received in over 25 years of cable subscription from at least 4 different companies. This is as good as it will get in the lehigh valley. Service electric has data caps that are unreasonable and RCN is always reinvesting profits to the betterment of their network. To some reviewers that have had issues with on and off internet make sure your modem has been upgraded for certain when getting a new speed tier. Customer service is less than desirable. Streaming stopped working, called and guy on phone said I needed new box. Guy came and didn't need a new box, just rebooted the modem. I paid for streaming services for two days and couldn't use it because of RCNs lack of knowledge and service. Quick to collect money but that's about it. Also, it's horrific that this company does not offer national news channels with the basic cable service. A woman I spoke with said marketing doesn't allow it nor allows lowering bills. Complete lack of reasonable customer service! I have only RCN Internet service since their cable television service is awful - high price, compressed signals, poor quality. (I use an OTA antenna and receive over 50 crystal clear channels absolutely free.) My RCN e-mail does not filter SPAM. I have received hundreds of SPAM emails in my inbox. Through an online chat with an RCN representative, I was told RCN couldn't filter SPAM. Absolutely implausible explanation for horrible service. I'm in an area in which RCN basically has a monopoly, so I have little choice but to keep RCN with their ever-increasing bills and ever-diminishing service. RCN used to be a company with really good service, but their internet connection is crappy at best at times; Their TV, which I do not use much of, works for some channels and others they don't. A station like ESPN comes through so choppy that you can't really watch it. I've written to RCN's main headquarters in NJ, but they haven't said anything. There are plenty of options for other providers and other ways to do things, RCN is one of the companies that is helping to kill cable TV; I'd highly recommend using another company. read more
