Burger, beer, tater tots
Nina R.

Bar Food was pretty good. I had their smash burger with fries at the evening happy hour price. You order with a QR code and they bring it to you, so there's not much interaction in terms of service. So we decided to sit at the bar instead. Bartenders were pleasant, but not much interaction. Food was served hot and really prompt. Not much wait time. Atmosphere downstairs is eclectic, colorful, games, relaxed environment. They even have couches and cozy seats. Highly recommend. Plan to go back.

Chicken Avocado Hummus Wrap

This is a fun place in shirlington with plenty of events, food and games. I came here for brunch with a friend. We didn't have a reservation but they had plenty of seating. My friend got the chicken avocado wrap and I got the burger with tater tots. The burger was so good! I would definitely come back just to have it again. The service was great. Everyone was very attentive. The ambiance for this place is great. It's so big and they have so many fun events. The tables are well spaced also.

After a long day of exploring the Nat. Mall and Arlington Cemetery. It was time for some beer and some bites. The beers on tap were plenty. Had a nice mix of local beers - which is what I stuck with. The pretzels weren't made in house, or at least I don't believe they were - but they were still well made and tasted good. Beer mustard was delicious. Astro has their own doughnuts and fried Chicken shop right next door, so I figured I had to try the fried chicken. Unfortunately they were out of dark meat so audibled to the white meat. It was still extremely moist and delicious! TV's had multiple games on. Didn't feel service was too friendly/welcoming at the start, but toward the end before leaving I felt that improved. Recommend stopping by for a beer and chicken!!

Smash burger

I love stopping by Astro Beer Hall for a nice cheat meal. Their smash burger and tatter tots are truly delish and hit the spot. They have plenty of seating and offer a relaxed dining vibe. They have plenty of screens for those looking to watch sports games. Huge shout out to their food runners who are super speedy and diligent!

If you're coming for beer and games, this is the place for you. Has plenty of TVs parking garages and seats and the food is definitely lacking, but the special after 9 PM five dollar chicken sandwiches and smash burgers is a deal. The fried pickles are heavily breaded and need to be taken off the menu immediately. Will be back you because my friend likes this place to watch the game

My top recommendation when coming here: get the fried chicken! I'm not the biggest fan of fried chicken but this was IT!!! Got the honey chicken sandwich (not pictured), 4 piece chicken and kids burger sliders. Everything was great but highly recommend the fried chicken! They also have amazing HH deals and reverse HH deals! They were so strategic about game day coverage! Great fo game day! IG @msbellalove for more reviews!

The Asteroid Chicken Sandwich

I didn't know Shirlington had an Astro and it was such a pleasant surprise to learn so last night! The vibes were very similar to the location in DC, I wonder if it's expected for every Astro to have a basement area too. The asteroid fried chicken sandwich was excellent as expected and the tots were a perfect pairing. We were at the bar to watch college sports and the servers were very helpful in making sure we could see the games we wanted to see. Fun times to be had for sure when I come back next!

ewww. quite possibly the worst nachos i've ever had. the cheese sauce lacked both flavor and heat. Poorly constructed and not enough chicken

the service was good tho our waitress was clearly overworked. It took way too long to order refills. If you're coming to watch the game and order a beer, this may be your place. The sirachi wings were pretty good but that's where the food flavor ended. Save your money and pick any other restaurant in Shirlington to eat. The noise level is too loud to have a conversation but normal for a sports bar. Two of us ordered the frozen drinks. cherry lemonade and mango something, both were bitter and returned for an equally lackluster iced tea. The fried chicken nachos used a cheese sauce that was both cold and tasteless. I'd NEVER come back for food!! If you're coming for anything other than to watch a game and pay too much for a beer, keep walking. I could've saved my $200

Egg Royale Sandwich

Lots of space and ideal for large groups, the bench seating in the back comfortably sat all 9 of our group. We made a reservation but it was fairly empty during brunch time on Sunday. Our server was quick and attentive. The egg royale was good -- soft and savory biscuit breakfast sandwich; -the egg was cooked well, bacon wasn't crispy enough but edible, the biscuit itself was starting to get soggy but I prefer it soggy to dry. The tater tots weren't that great--very standard and no seasoning - on the dry side, so get something to dip with. I tried the rosemary mustard which was good (charged extra). But they were very generous with the portion. I was stuffed. The cold brew was okay, not the most memorable. I liked that it came in a to go container because I definitely couldn't finish it because it was strong. I'd say food is better than what I'd expect for a beer hall, so that's a plus! Would I come here specifically to eat? Probably not. Definitely top contender for big groups and gatherings though.

This is an interesting place but I think best for a younger crowd. The good: The totchos were amazing. Rarely do you get perfectly cooked tater tots. Here they were and loaded up with cheese sauce, sour cream etc. ...and the Bavarian pretzels! Chef's kiss. The bad: The bar was incredibly loud. The floor, the walls and the ceiling are all hard surfaced. Nothing absorbs any sound. It was also really hot in this bar. We were even downstairs and still sweating. The beer selection is quite extensive, but I am unlikely to return. There was no table service, you had to order and pick up food at the bar. I am used to places being comfortable and not sweating indoors.

This review is based on the gaming options and ambience. I didn't have a chance to try any food this time so I will be back for a review for that. I stopped in just as I was walking by because the place looked intriguing. I was interested in throwing some darts so that's the first thing I did. I'm actually pretty good at the game but noticed the bull's-eye was not sticking. Upon closer inspection, I saw that it cannot stick because the board is worn down and missing in the bull's-eye area. Anyway after that game was over, I walked around and saw that the place is pretty cool. There's a downstairs area for adults only that is a bar with a lot of cool, chill areas as well. I talked to the bartender when I was down there who told me after 10 PM things really pick up so that's pretty exciting. All in all seems like a nice place.

Not special, but reliable, with something on the menu to please anybody. It's not our first choice for food (this isn't exactly a chef-driven restaurant), but if you like Irish fare, they do a respectable job with all of that: corned beef, bangers & mash, lamb, fish & chips, etc., plus burgers and "bar food"-level salads and the like. Samuel Beckett's deserves extra points for NOT raising prices to the same degree as some of its Shirlington neighbors. For a table service restaurant these days, it's a greater value than it's ever been, and that's much appreciated.

We shared the Irish baked brie. This was tasty but definitely could have been warmer. I had the Lamb Stew as my entree. It was just OK. I prefer a creamier sauce, and the lamb wasn't as tender as I expected. The Irish brown bread (thin slice) that accompanied it was tasty, but the butter was not Kerrygold as the menu states. I'll select a different entree if I return. My friend had Shepherd's Pie which she enjoyed. She also ordered the bread pudding. I had a bit but it was too sweet for me. We did enjoy the ice cream that came with. Karlen, our waiter was attentive, and offered to split the cost of our appetizer. Much appreciated!

Palette 22 had been on our list for the longest time, and now we're just upset we didn't try it…read moresooner! We went on a Saturday night and made a reservation, which I'd definitely recommend. The space is so unique and artsy. The walls are covered with beautiful artwork (some of which you can actually purchase), and even the menus are works of art. It made the whole experience feel fun and creative. The staff was wonderful, especially our server Noah, who was incredibly attentive and made the experience even better. We did the bottomless dinner, and the value is honestly unbeatable. We tried the grilled gem lettuce, marinated cucumbers, street corn, hoisin-glazed pork belly bao buns, P22 cheeseburger sliders, spicy shrimp & pancetta pizza, funghi pizza, dan dan noodles, rigatoni norcina, and the sesame steak skewers. Everything was delicious, but the standouts were the dan dan noodles (rich, savory, and packed with flavor), the funghi pizza (crispy with earthy mushrooms and perfectly melted cheese), and the sesame steak skewers (tender, juicy, and coated in a flavorful sesame glaze). The hoisin-glazed pork belly bao buns were soft, fluffy, and packed with melt-in-your-mouth pork, while the rigatoni norcina was creamy, comforting, and perfectly cooked. The grilled gem lettuce was also a fresh, flavorful way to start the meal. For drinks, the white sangria and pomegranate ginger mocktail were both refreshing and delicious. Dessert didn't disappoint either, the flourless chocolate cake (with candied pecans instead of hazelnuts) was rich without feeling too heavy, and the churros were light, crispy, and perfect with the caramel and chocolate dipping sauces. We finished with cappuccinos, which were the perfect ending to the meal. 10/10 experience, we'll definitely be back!

This was probably my fourth visit to Palette 22. The first time I came, I really enjoyed it, but on…read moresubsequent visits I felt the quality had declined, which is why I stayed away for a while. I decided to give it another shot after they brought back their bottomless dinner and introduced a few new menu items. We opted for the bottomless option and ended up trying almost everything on the menu. Unfortunately, nothing really stood out enough for me to order a second time. The biggest surprise was the butter chicken, which had corn mixed into it for some reason. The street corn was also disappointing, lacking the flavor I was expecting. The lumpia and shrimp tacos were decent but fairly forgettable. The dishes I enjoyed the most were the Cubano sliders and the steak skewers, but my favorite plate of the night was actually the chilled udon noodles. They were refreshing, well-balanced, and one of the few dishes I'd happily order again. One thing Palette 22 continues to do well is the atmosphere. The restaurant has a fun, artsy vibe with colorful murals, paintings, and graffiti covering the walls, making it an enjoyable place to spend an evening. The service was also efficient. We were allowed to order two small plates per person at a time, and each round arrived quickly, so there was very little waiting between orders. Overall, I think Palette 22 is worth trying at least once, especially if you go for the bottomless dinner/brunch. The value is much better than ordering the same dishes à la carte. That said, because the menu doesn't change very often, repeat visits can start to feel repetitive. Unless they significantly refresh the menu, I probably won't be returning again anytime soon.

Service was fine and attentive. We like Ichiban and will definitely be back. Sushi and ramen are the biggies here, but there's other stuff too like bento boxes, fried rice and plenty of appetizers. We started out with the miso soup which was rich and flavorful. We also got the crunchy shrimp and crispy shrimp rolls. Both were good, but I especially liked the crunchy shrimp rolls. In addition, we ordered the pan-fried shumai. I'm used to steamed shumai, but I really like pan-fried. The dipping sauce that came with the shumai was tasty. JP ordered the salmon bento box. It came with endamame, pan-fried gyoza, carrots, sautéed onion, broccoli and white rice. The salmon with a nice glaze was delicious and perfect. I ordered the beef bento box. Too bad I forgot my to-go container and noticed when I was nearly home :( I tried my friend's Fish & Chips which were equally delicious and perfectly crispy.
